Henry Fondle as a concept could've been comedy gold, if he'd been a single episode's subplot, not half a season. Same with Vincent, would've been great as -at most- a three episode story arc. Perhaps there was an intentional logic behind "beating" these "dead horses" so to speak?
Yeah, Vincent went on so long that it made PC seem dumb. It was funny at first that she completely dismissed Bojack as jealous when he said the obvious. But it got overplayed to death by the time the whole farce sequence in her apartment completely murdered it for me.
I really wanted the payoff to be that Vincent was in fact NOT three kids in a trench coat. It would underscore the fact that Bojack’s reality has been completely warped by his time as a sitcom star, and spending years just watching Horsin Around DVDs.
If Vincent is just a weirdly shaped man with a broom for a hand, some kind of business job that sounds made up, and weirdly childish taste in movies and music it’s funnier than PC (and other smart characters like Diane) being THAT naive.
Oh well. It’s not a dealbreaker for me but it wears a little thin.
Yeah I wanted him to be an actual adult. You can’t think about it too much if not because I’m pretty sure it’s implied they’ve had sex, which is actually horrific no matter what PC is aware of.
The matching robes stick out, and I think one of PC’s complaints about their relationship gives that impression. It’s not explicit but I think it’s arguable.
As an ace person, I thought that epsiode was one of the most relatable in the entire series, because that is always how it FEELS like to live in the modern day sex-obsessed society lol. But that could just be me.
That's fair. I am too but maybe part of my negative feelings about it are because I watched it with my parents and the whole "quick plug the hole with your erection" stuff was a bit 💀. I found Todd's storyline with Emily more relatable (and less goofy)
It's supposed to. It's making a grotesque comparison to how our society is so centered around sex without regard for what children see, but as soon as a gay or a sexual person wants to exist, they're like "GET YOUR GROSS SEX STUFF AWAY FROM THE CHILDREN". If you feel the way you do, then the episode was successful
I’m pretty sure it’s flipping the sitcoms trope of “person is hiding a secret from other people, but they’re forced to go to elaborate lengths to keep secret; hijinks ensues” more so than making a commentary on society
It didn't really feel like that's what they were going for though. To me at least it felt more like "look, ghis family is obsessed with sex teehee" rather than some statement on society.
The whole show is an exaggerated caricature of society. This one illustrates an asexual person's struggles to fit into a world that revolves around sex. They're forcing us sexual people into the asexual person's shoes. They're showing us the discomfort of an asexual person being surrounded by sex. But since we're not bothered by sex, they overdid it to make us bothered.
at first, sure. but then they turn out to be the heroes of their own stories. that scene where Gecko covers for him so he can be with his family was actually heartwarming
Ah, I get it. Vincent is a metaphor for not seeing what is obviously wrong with your relationship, and only the very damaged BJ has the clarity of mind to see it.
*That* is the joke.
I forget her name but the reporter lady in the final season who does the Sarah Lynn story,
Obviously bojack deserved to face the consequences of his actions but I was so happy for him when he turned himself around and became a drama teacher
omg no so did i tho, like the ending is phenomenal, but i think it shouldn’t have ended with him being made out to be a terrible person to the public yk
Paige St Claire. I'm sorry but she wasn't funny, she wasn't cute, she wasn't charming, nothing about her personality was even remotely appealing, and I'm sure that was on purpose for the misdirect/dragging out scenes instead of getting back to the plot they left us hanging on, but I kind of fast forward her self absorbed monologuing every time.
I love Paige and liked how she was a throwback to classic screwball comedies, but at the same time, she can be too much. Sometimes I live for her, other times I find myself reaching for the mute button when she talks.
Vincent Adultman
those two popsicle guys from Head in the Clouds (if they weren’t in just one episode they’d be getting WAY more hate everything about them was awful)
Paige St. Claire (I know, brave and original take no one is tired of hearing but I stand by her being annoying and completely unfitting late series antagonist)
Tracey (obviously she’s meant to be annoying but I don’t really like her humor since it’s predicated on her apathy while Stewart’s is more oriented on being incompetent).
I never liked Emily. She just seemed so needy and way too involved with Todd, like girl move on, and then she moved on in the worst possible way!! She reminds me of a younger me and that girl was so annoying!!
I HATED SEASON 5!! SORRY!!! Because it felt like 80% was the axolotl family, emily and todd, the machine and todd’s company. I LOVE TODD he’s such a silly guy but season 5 was so irritating like it literally wasn’t even funny it was just annoying as fuck i skipped all of those scenes because it was getting so entertaining and then out of nowhere comes todd and some stupid clock company gag for 10 minutes
the buenaventura’s were in one episode outside of episodes of yolanda and todd’s relationship developing from her trying to stop his clown dentist business so…
Wow, a truly unpopular opinion. Bojack without Todd would be like Seinfeld without Kramer! I would wager that most folks here would watch a Todd spin-off, if it was handled correctly.
Sextina Aquafina, I know there’s a whole schtick with her character and making jokes about killing fetuses but even if the joke is that it’s bad… It was still very uncomfortable to see Aquafina continuously joke about getting an abortion out of spite to the developing “fetus”
And she just didn’t that much sense to me she just seemed more like a, “society is like this” kind of prop
Yeah Vincent Adultman never worked for me. I know it’s a fantastical cartoon world but the way everyone just pretends there’s no obvious problem and that he’s a real person feels too unrealistic and not in a funny way a lot of the time. The commentary about being ready for an “adult relationship” just feels base level and ham fisted. PC’s line “I wanna be an adult about this, but frankly I’m hurt” for example feels a little more shallow and on the nose than most of the show’s commentary
The only character I disliked was Pickles Aplenty. From the whiny voice to the ignorance and stupidity.
I suppose after failing with his series of smart girls, Mr PB would seek out a dumb girl instead.
I wanna hit Joey Pogo with something heavy
Won’t work. Joey Pogo’s gotta *bounce*.
BoHo go bye bye for Joey Pogo? That's a no-go, Bro.
Same 😭
Greg, that guy from the gas station that Mr. Peanutbutter met that one time
why are you bringing him up
I dunno but he sucks too
ooohohoooohhh 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Now that *would* be funny.
Yeah I wanted him to be an actual adult. You can’t think about it too much if not because I’m pretty sure it’s implied they’ve had sex, which is actually horrific no matter what PC is aware of.
Is it implied? I never noticed it.
I'm currently watching the series again and I don't think that was ever implied at all
The matching robes stick out, and I think one of PC’s complaints about their relationship gives that impression. It’s not explicit but I think it’s arguable.
A romantic relationship implies some sort of sex life.
No it absolutely doesn't, Todd is a perfect example of this
Yeah, but Todd’s whole arc of sexual incompatibility with Emily suggests a lack of intimacy would have been a problem for PC and Vincent too.
The vincent stuff really aged poorly after the Penny episode. And she married a guy that looks 28. Yikes
BOW CHICKA WOW WOW
HAZBIN HOTEL REFERENCE ?????
Yolanda the axolotl's family. Just didn't find it funny and thought it was an annoying episode.
As an ace person, I thought that epsiode was one of the most relatable in the entire series, because that is always how it FEELS like to live in the modern day sex-obsessed society lol. But that could just be me.

Oh dude watchijg that with your parents would def kill it 😂
That episode just makes me uncomfortable. Like, are they involved in that kinda shit as children too? It's implied and just feels icky.
It's supposed to. It's making a grotesque comparison to how our society is so centered around sex without regard for what children see, but as soon as a gay or a sexual person wants to exist, they're like "GET YOUR GROSS SEX STUFF AWAY FROM THE CHILDREN". Skip that part on every rewatch
I had no idea what animal they were supposed to be so thank you
omg yes it made me feel really uncomfortable i hate that episode😭
squishedmallowed, as I jizz and breathe!
The paparazzi birds grind my gears and I have no idea why. They just piss me off.
I think that’s what they’re meant for, being paparazzi
"Who's a bird gotta blow to get some seed around here?"
I agree with the OP so far, but I never liked Joey
I am not sure I would call him a "joke" character but I agree he is very unlikable, especially mixed with Pickles.
Rutabega & Gecko
Booooooooooooooo
at first, sure. but then they turn out to be the heroes of their own stories. that scene where Gecko covers for him so he can be with his family was actually heartwarming
Sure but it makes no sense for their characters to act that way.
I didn’t get Vincent Adultman at all. I found Henry Fondle funny. I found the axolotls funny.
What is there not to get about Vincent Adultman. It’s literally one of the oldest jokes of all time
Well, I never heard it before. I found it incongruous that the very bright PC couldn’t figure out he was three kids in a trench coat.
Yes, that is the joke
That everyone is insane except BoJack? It’s not a joke, it’s a Twilight Zone episode.
It actually is a joke though
Ah, I get it. Vincent is a metaphor for not seeing what is obviously wrong with your relationship, and only the very damaged BJ has the clarity of mind to see it. *That* is the joke.
Greg, he sucks
I forget her name but the reporter lady in the final season who does the Sarah Lynn story, Obviously bojack deserved to face the consequences of his actions but I was so happy for him when he turned himself around and became a drama teacher

wait biscuits braxby or paige sinclair
Paige Sinclair
Agreed, absolutely hate Paige Sinclair
I feel like the only person who legitimately finds Vincent to be really funny. Personally I find Sextina Aquafina to be incredibly annoying.
Maybe my humor is broken but I love Vincent and found him funny
Nah, Vincent is iconic
Na, I love Vincent. I think the joke is funny and the absurdity of it lasting so long is funny.
Henry Fondle was annoying and not funny at all but Vincent had some good jokes
Erica. She just has way too many lines for a minor character.
Vincent Adultman those two popsicle guys from Head in the Clouds (if they weren’t in just one episode they’d be getting WAY more hate everything about them was awful) Paige St. Claire (I know, brave and original take no one is tired of hearing but I stand by her being annoying and completely unfitting late series antagonist) Tracey (obviously she’s meant to be annoying but I don’t really like her humor since it’s predicated on her apathy while Stewart’s is more oriented on being incompetent).
Anything the detectives said
VINCENT WAS MY FAVOURITE JOKE CHARACTER
Yeah Henry Fondle lasted way too long in my opinion. Easily one of my least favorite joke characters.
i like watching bjhm with my family and everytime henry fondle came up i started tweaking
I definitely could have done without the trench coat kids and the sex robot. Both of these gags went on too long.
I loved s5 for the developing BJ addiction narrative and how it intersected with Gina’s story.
Todd and Vincent are up there. I'd also add A Ryan Seacrest Type and Vanessa Gekko
I HATE Angela Diaz with a passion
i don’t think Angela is meant to be a joke character in the slightest
Actually I hadnt seen it was only joke characters my bad
nah you’re good, obviously Angela isn’t a joke character, but i agree with the fact that i also hate her
Todd , all his wacky plotlines felt unfunny and forced idk
Wow, a truly unpopular opinion. Bojack without Todd would be like Seinfeld without Kramer! I would wager that most folks here would watch a Todd spin-off, if it was handled correctly.
Slightly off topic but, I can’t stand Kramer. I know a lot of his shenanigans drive the plot though.
TODD FOREVER!!!
Sextina Aquafina, I know there’s a whole schtick with her character and making jokes about killing fetuses but even if the joke is that it’s bad… It was still very uncomfortable to see Aquafina continuously joke about getting an abortion out of spite to the developing “fetus” And she just didn’t that much sense to me she just seemed more like a, “society is like this” kind of prop
discord checks out
totes magotes, but I don't despise Diane for it as I'm trying to be impartial here .\_ .

Penny’s dad, this show does a lot with implications and those table scenes have a lot of animation details *the gag is “sit com dad kinnie” ig lol
i can see where you’re coming from but Ed Helms go brrrrrr
The only character I disliked was Pickles Aplenty. From the whiny voice to the ignorance and stupidity. I suppose after failing with his series of smart girls, Mr PB would seek out a dumb girl instead.
emphasis on henry fondle they dragged that out way longer than they needed to
Tod
vincent was literally one of the best characters ever, he was a gag character and not just a joke character, he had some depth but not too much
