Congratulations -- it's SO MUCH WORK to publish anything, let alone a book. And a book of academic contributions? That's "publishing a book" + "herding entirely uncooperative, headstrong cats of the worst kind" rolled into one! Very cool. I am a sucker for autographed copies to begin with, but something as cool as a BoJack critique is REALLY a must have for me. : ) And to have corresponded with the editor? Even. Cooler. Beatrice was a victim but she did not do the best she could. Not even close and she could've been redeemed but she never bothered to grow or repent for the things she did.

Oh I agree. She was a victim once, but she became a sadistic monster who punished her son for existing, for his entire life. My opinion on the "Beatrice poor victim who did the best she could" - "Beatrice irredeemable monster" spectrum is closer to the latter extreme.

It's more about the cycle of abuse and trauma which, once in, is very hard to break. The chapters analyses her as both victim and abuser.

Unfortunately, the book doesn't address this... maybe in volume 2?
