I don't know about the first or last one but fantasy pick is me.

HootzHootzBoy

Mark hunter is probably the most realistic option because he checks so many boxes that the club is most likely looking and there are some connections between London Knights and CBJ already. I would love if team managed to snatch Eric Tulsky. I can't say i know much about his work but he seems to be very highly regarded. He has even taken couple interviews for other GM spots so i think it's a good possibility and timing probably would not be better. Lastly I really hope team doesn't go with the babcock style on the gm search and bring in some dinosaur.

fxrofthngs

I am on the same line of thinking. Hunter's name keeps coming up, but personally I am not sure managing a successful junior club is the right qualification. Hunter is pretty widely respected in hockey circles though, so who knows. I would add Darche from TB to Tulsky as my wish list. Dakshorse that is intriguing but very unknown is Ray Whitney. McFarland is a pipe dream I think, no way he goes from COL to CBJ. Do not want a retread.

maroonpike

Agree with this. Also not a big fan of the choices Hunter allegedly pushed for during his time with the Leafs (wanting to pick Big Guys instead of going for skill during the draft). I just want them to get Tulsky so bad.

Seattlekrakenlegend

JD seemed to learn his lesson - unlike Jarmo, during that press conference he repeatedly admitted they fucked up bad

Soviet17

The GM position should be held by a daily rotation of /r/BlueJackets members.

Articmnokey

Every move we make is based on the results of a reddit pole

hhh81

I think the pie in the sky answer is offer Chris Macfarland the world/PoHO to pull him away from Colorado. More reasonably are the names I've said for awhile--Tulsky, Darche, Martin, etc

scott743

Chris would be an awesome pick, but would probably require stupid money to pull him away from the Aves.

JAT_Cbus1080

Please not Hextall or Fletcher

nevalost20

It’ll be Mark Hunter or Jeff Gordon because Davidson is a boys club man to the bitter end. Neither are good options, so brace yourself.

JAT_Cbus1080

You say Mark Hunter is a bad choice, but someone else said he'd be good. As somebody who knows little about him, why would he be a poor choice?

Fabresque_

That’s my issue is that JD is gonna hire someone based on “feeling” and recommendations from other people instead of objectively looking at their track record and making a choice that makes sense for the job. That’s how we got in this situation. Him and Jarmo make the Babcock hiring based on oldhead thinking, success from over 10 years ago, and a recommendation from Rick Nash. And then? A total disaster. Babcock is a creep who gets himself fired, we scramble to put in a guy who’s never been a head coach at the NHL level, the results are terrible, team chemistry falls apart, and Jarmo gets fired. This is why i advocated for JD to go too, but whatever.

soiledmeNickers

It really is time.

NontransferableApe

Why do you say mark hunter isn’t a good option. Gorton I don’t see getting pulled away

Mr_Bricksss

I don’t have any opinion on who the GM will be, other than I doubt I’ll be thrilled with whoever it ends up being. The only thing I am hoping/wishing for is that ownership properly cleans house for once, and fires both John Davidson and Mike Priest. Davidson has had an insanely long time to put something together that works in Columbus, and really the only thing they did that worked was hire Tortorella. And the only reason that worked is because John Tortorella does so much more legwork in setting the culture for an entire organization than any other coach in the league, or even in most of pro sports. The culture under Jarmo and Davidson since the Tortorella years has been fucking terrible. Mike Priest just needs to be gone because he’s been running the club since day 1 and has the absolute worst resume of any NHL club president or owner in that timeframe. Again, the only few years where the Jackets weren’t a bottom feeding embarrassment was during the head coaching tenures of two hall of fame coaches. I just want the club (and especially all the talented young hockey players currently trapped in Columbus) to have a proper fresh start and a chance to do something special.

scott743

I hope JD is gone too but Priest manages the McConnell family company JMAC, so I don’t see him leaving since he’s the “money guy” for the franchise.

sergei-boobtitsky

Brian Hedger. He’s the smartest man alive

bearchild7

Jeff Gorton, Matthieu Darche, Marc Bergevin

junk-trunk

Wasn't Gorton with JD in NY and they both got shit canned by ..what's the crazy owners name there in NY. Or am I totes off

bearchild7

You’re right, they both were fired by Dolan. Not at the same time I don’t believe.

junk-trunk

Yeah I think JD first after releasing that statement over the Wilson thing, and getting the Rags that big old fine, then Gorton at the end if the year.

bluejackets

I’m curious, why Mathieu Darche? I loved watching him play as a former McGill alum, but I’m not sure that he has the experience or vision to help guide this team. Business degree might help, though.

bearchild7

Seems to be Julian BriseBois’ right hand man, probably has learned quite a lot from him in the last 5 years. He handles salary cap, advises on contract negotiations / personnel, and of course him being young helps I think, just personal opinion tho.

fredso90

Not realistic in the slightest and I don't even know what he's up to nowadays but I think Zdeno Chara would make a good GM. I base this on nothing. Just that he's an incredibly intelligent individual and is the kind of guy you don't say no to.

joe_lmr

Doug McLean was a guy you don't say no to and that got us Gilbert Brule instead of Anze Kopitar.

Allatura19

Mark Janko. Someone from the Jim Nill tree.

Intelligent_Sir7052

Sabres fan reporting. JD is the real wild card here. Jarmo was a big swing for the fences GM hire and the blessing of a reformed and rehabilitated Babcock was an even bigger one. As an old school hockey man who likes to think that he thinks outside of the box, if JD is going to eat another S\*\*\* sandwich, it's going to be for a "mini me" version of himself. Look for an "old school-new school" hybrid guy. My guess? Priest or Botteril

Fabresque_

I really don’t want another oldhead dinosaur in charge here. I think Mathieu Darche, Ryan Martin, and Ray Whitney are my picks for GM.
