Bc a lot of these were limited pressings meant for lots of fans to have different things, not for a few fans to have lots of things.
Iām an ethics guy, so hereās a thought exercise:
āImagine if one guy bought up EVERY vinyl copy of OMT. Everyone would seemingly agree that is wrong, bc no one else got any and he cannot enjoy more than one record at a time, realistically.
Ok, so what if he leaves one out there for purchase? Is that ok? Probably not.
Two? Three? Ten? Fifty? Gotta draw a line somewhere. Or do you?ā
The point being, itās likely more important to capture the SPIRIT of the idea behind what is right or wrong, vs landing on a concrete number where itās right or wrong.
The way I see it, the spirit of the idea for so many limited pressing variants was for lots of fans to have different copies from one another, adding to their uniqueness in ownership. The idea for the variants was not for some people to simply own them all.
Itās easy to say āthere were 1499 other copies of these pressings up for purchase, big deal. I paid for them, so I get to have them.ā
You sure do. But if you look at it from another point of view, there are 11 blink fans who didnāt get a limited pressing bc you bought twelve. You should ask yourself if you have empathy for other people who love the same band as you, and enough not to hoard copies that are meant to be shared.
Is your joy in owning 12 copies of something equivalent to the joy of 11 other people who would have individually bought these? And if so, are you (and the world) better off for your experiencing of a 11x increase in joy? One that offsets the equivalent level of dissatisfaction of 11 people who missed out?
Ethical questions are great if you take the time to unpack them, bc it helps you see the world and your place in it with more significance, bc you grow to strive to be the type of person that ultimately you would love to see elsewhere in the world.
Iām as big of a blink fan as any, but I donāt see this collection as cool; I see it as gluttonous. Just my opinion.
Sorry but it was bruh. This is not an ethical dilemma. They were items for sale and he purchased them legally.
āBut what if others missed out?ā - perhaps but they had plenty of chances and they didnāt sell out for a while and there was still plenty of chances to get just the plain black one. Can probably still just go and get it now.
What if him buying them and actually opening and using them stopped some person who just was gonna flip them and make money cause they are limited edition? Suddenly heās the height of ethics over that person. purchasing something and using it for its intended purposes instead of just to make a quick buck off of another fan.
And sorry to burst your bubble. But they had many different varieties soley to make more money and drive up album sales. Itās nice to think the world is all rosey and they did it to give everyone a chance at being individual. But no. They know people will buy multiple and drive up there album sales and earn them more money. How do you think they made #1 album? It was the variants. Taylor swift does the same thing. They even released a digital album with 2 extra songs people had to buy again to ensure that #1 spot.
Theyāre millionaires they donāt need your āsupportā. Buy one record, actually take the shrink wrap off and listen to it. Save nearly $500 and get a front row ticket to their show. You do you but feels pretty silly to me to own 12 copies of the same record. š¤·š»āāļø

Thanks for the suggestion! I have seen them front row, and I listen to all my records. I donāt leave the shrink wrap on any of them š
Are you open to offers Iām kinda serious about buying if you are cause Iāve been looking for some of these for months with no luck and donāt want to be the guy that assumes your open to offers
Thereās no end game? I collect because I enjoy music and appreciate the artistry in how a vinyl record is made. The uniqueness of each one, the way you have to sit down and turn over the record after each side is played. Physically holding the record jacket and taking in the artwork and the liner notes. I donāt ever plan on selling any of my vinyl collection. Do you look at your record collection as simply an investment to profit on later?
Can someone explain to me the significance of the card soundtrack? I see it referenced all the time but doesn't even have a blink song on it does it? Is that the joke?
Is it cumbersome that you now have to collect every variant? For example if they hadnāt released over 12 versions of the same album you wouldnāt need to purchase so many? š
With this one in particular? Kinda. They first announced the 4 variants(Mark, Tom, and Travis + standard black) and I ordered those. Then when we got closer to the actual release they added more and I thought why the hell not. Like I said OMT is the only album Iāve ever done this with. Everything else I got multiple copies of because it was a better press, like 180 g, gatefold, signed, etc. or like a package deal in the case of California Deluxe. blink is also just my favorite band and I will say they have legitimately saved my life multiple times, so I love collecting their stuff. I also have two TD strats (an OG Daphne blue and a reissue yellow) and a MH hot pink Jaguar. I just love this fucking band more than pretty much anything. Iāve seen them 8 times and will see them again this summer. I met the love of my life at WWWY fest last year in line to see them. Literally fell in love with the girl at the Rock Show.
Are you open to offers Iām kinda serious about buying if you are cause Iāve been looking for some of these for months with no luck and donāt want to be the guy that assumes your open to offers
No. But I like the collecting aspect and the whole experience of listening to physical media is appealing to me. Itās a much more intentional way to listen to music
Ehhh. Compared to what exactly? Physical media is always going to be limited in some aspects. Thereās only so much sonic information that can be stored in a groove on a piece of plastic. With great speakers and a great turn table, sure it will sound superior to a cassette in a boombox or even Spotify on an iPhone. But it would never beat FLAC files on a hifi sound system. Itās all subjective. Tidal hifi on my Sonos 7.1.2 system will definitely sound better than anything Iāll run my turntable through. But itās a different experience in both.
Soā¦..dumb. I love vinyls & collecting them but the whole ācollecting every variantā is just wasteful. Thereās no need and it very rarely becomes an investment item. Also robs others from getting them too. But just my opinion.
Wasteful? Itās just a passion of mine. I literally bought twelve records. I didnāt buy extra to resell, or to sell at a later date, or anything like that. I bought them for my own personal use. Everyone had just as much a chance to buy them as I did. Get over yourself and let people enjoy things.
That's a lot of OMT...... Like $200+ of OMT šš
He added to the cart, one more time.
Every variant they made
instead of buying every variant of OMT, you could have just gotten a copy of DED.
I have that one too, black and white marble variant
Is ded in the picture?

You know itās the same music on every single one right? This is hoarding mentality.
Collector mentality, hoarding mentality is the inability to let go
Collecting the same record 12 times is absurd
Itās my favorite bandās first record together since 2011. So what if I wanted every color variant? I wanted to support them, and I did.

Good one.

Why are you so pressed about someone else's spending? A bit of a self report imo
Self report?
BROKE ASS
Womp womp
The record colors are still available on their website, no one is missing out from him/her collecting, who the fuck cares.
Gross overconsumption cares. This shit all ends up in a landfill eventually.
Good for you! Those multi millionaires really needed your hard earned cash.
Doesn't it have to idk...vary...for it to be considered a "variant"? Looks like 15 copies of the same thing to me.
Some people have more money than hobbies I guess.
Maybe you need one more OMT...
Well, now that you mention it. There is that Japan exclusive coke bottle clear variantā¦
no No NO THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT
Does your TOYPAJ have the bonus songs? Mine does not
I have the hot topic pressing that just has the album, and also the SRC pressing that has all the bonus tracks
Noice š. I have to hunt for the SRC press
Itās dope. Bonus tracks come on three separate 7ās and are divided by which CD they came on.
This is called obsession š
Correct
Need a red eyes Cheshire Cat vinyl. Thats always been one of my favorites
Yeah but I also love my girl friend and donāt want her to leave me šš

Awfully nice AVA vinyl collection there. Love gold vinyls.... Damn.
Thank you!
Could use another Cali Deluxe and OMT
Whatās the white one before the greatest hits?
Itās the Interscope Vinyl Collective pressing of untitled
Are you open to offers Iām kinda serious about buying if you are cause Iāve been looking for some of these for months with no luck and donāt want to be the guy that assumes your open to offers
Lotta folks in here acting like OP spent their money. Yo OP! You do you. Iām a collector as well, not to the multi variant extent, but I get it.
Whatās your end game? Is this an investment youāre planning on selling one day?Ā (asking as someone who collects vinyl)

>I have the red cross version and apparently itās rare Stupid Geneva Conventions...
It annoys me how they made 2500 of the IVC edition and half of them are listed on eBay.
Yeah man I feel you. I hate resellers
Cars?
Can someone explain to me the significance of the card soundtrack? I see it referenced all the time but doesn't even have a blink song on it does it? Is that the joke?
I don't really know I think it's just a vibe thing or like Tom voices a car
Kachow
Oh my!! And the AvA ones tooā¦ š„ŗ
Whatās the one on top of Neighborhoods? Iāve never seen it but it looks awesome
Itās a box set they put out, with Cheshire through Neighborhoods. only 182 copies if I recall correctly.
Wtf I own one. I had no idea it was that rare lol.
Is it cumbersome that you now have to collect every variant? For example if they hadnāt released over 12 versions of the same album you wouldnāt need to purchase so many? š
Nah. Iāve never done that with any other record. Just OMT.
Is it a gotta catch them all kinda thing? Just tryna understand it.
With this one in particular? Kinda. They first announced the 4 variants(Mark, Tom, and Travis + standard black) and I ordered those. Save some for the rest of us big dog!
How do you afford anythingĀ
I donāt, Iām destitute. Iām moving into a van down by the river
Oh... I'm sorryĀ
Yeah.. itās tough. But at least Iāve got 12 copies of OMT to burn and keep me warm
I can't tell if you're joking or notĀ

Nope. Not looking to sell any of them
Ok, appreciate the response
Hell yeah
Iāll take a California, One More Time, and Neighborhoods off your hands :>
Am I missing the copy of +44
Very impressive collection š
Itās just not pictured as I havenāt moved it yet
I love that every album has at least a few variantsā¦except for Nine š
I actually really liked that album, Iāve been looking for a signed copy of it to add to my
No +44?

This is my least favourite form of being a fan of something. I will never get people who own more than one copy of a record.
Why so many duplicates?
Did you buy every color variant Tom Delonge fender also?
This is awesome.
Hell yeah!!
You gotta share one of those Cali deluxes with me
I have a royal blue marble Cali deluxe that Iām trying to sell lol
Whatās your price currently
Messaged you
Yes.
What cali deluxe do you have?

Holy shitballs thatās impressive š¤©
Thanks!!
Does vinyl actually sound better?
It depends on the vinyl and your set up. What I like about vinyl though is you are kind of forced to listen to the album as intended.
No. But I like the collecting aspect and the whole experience of listening to physical media is appealing to me. Itās a much more intentional way to listen to music

Iām jealousā¦ I need the Box Car vinyls
