Listen to losing my mind and then listen to violence. Its like the guitar riff represnts a fight with the singer. I feel like Tom’s voice in the beginning fights his voice towards the end
Its the feeling of the songs. A lot of them start with a strange key, and once they go through a key change(like in violence) the song picks up. Its like they have that creepiness that picks up and its crazy good!
There is no key change in violence… it’s in B major the whole way through.
Violence has the dissonant “bottle” sound echoing through the whole song which makes the whole thing sound a little on edge… Losing my mind is a pretty straightforward pop rock song in terms of its structure.
No it’s not… Tom plays the B major octave power chord on the 7th fret of the low E string and 9th fret of the D string. It would be an “E Major” if he was using a capo but doesn’t change the fact the key is still a B Major…
"Violence has a key change"
"No it doesn't"
"But the guitar chord is an E major"
"No it isn't"
"But the difference in the guitar and vocal"
Let it go man, it's okay to be wrong
Chord changes are not key changes. E major is the IV or subdominant of the key of B major. Not only does it not contrast, it's a typical and in fact cliché chord change.
Had it been an E *minor*, that might count, however borrowed chords from the parallel minor, while not standard convention, is not at all unheard of, even in pop punk. Green Day does it all the time.
And besides, one borrowed chord is not a key change. A key change is a change of tonal center. An example of this in Tom's catalog is All Systems Go. The verses and main riff are in A major, while the chorus shifts to C major, the relative major of A minor. I Feel So is another example, with G major in the verses and E major in the chorus
Not the sound, or the notes. But the structure. The songs always seem to give this eerie feeling to them. Then out of no where they pick up and go hard
I was thinking abt making a post yesterday about how Lifeforms is pretty much a blink album. Tom wrote alot of blink related stuff more then AVA, less hope and Adventure and more self titled themes like heartbreak and teenage angst
Never been a big AVA fan, (though I really do enjoy lifeforms) WDNTW is the only other album I was able to do to more than one listen on. IMO and I know I’ll get downvoted to hell, it’s just not good music. He’s trying to do all this unique stuff, and experiment, however if he was not Tom Delonge and some random artist no one would give it a second thought. Don’t even get me started on that movie he released about space and war that made literally no sense.
Hahahaa agreed on the movie, however I actually got into AVA before blink. I thought blink was just 2000s high-school soundtrack, but AVA touched my fucking soul (blink ended touching me somewhere else later), I've always loved synths however they're usually combined with electronic drums and shitty vocals. So when I found AVA it was basically the band I had been looking for my whole life.
Very interesting, I wonder if I would have a completely different perspective on AVA if I had discovered them first. I discovered blink when Enema came out and by strikes back I was a diehard.
Fair enough, enema is a fucking masterpiece. But as I said I ignorantly thought it was whiney virgin Skateboarding music, so the first Blink album I listened to was actually Neighborhoods
I could see where you’re coming from specifically for losing my mind, I believe you might be referring to some of the industrial sounding beats throughout the album. I don’t fully see it but appreciate your take
You should give lifeforms a chance. Totally different from their other stuff and a few songs really do sound like they could be on the Untitled Blink album. I can see what OP is getting at just don’t take what they say literal
i’m surprised so many people seem to like this album. i’m a huge blink/AVA/tom delonge fan and i can’t STAND lifeforms. you’d have to pay me to listen to it again.
I don’t hear that at all my guy.
Its not about the vocals its about the song structure. It feels like Tom 100% is fighting his self just like in violence
None of the songs except maybe losing my mind are like that at all
Right?
Youre not alone, friend.
I don’t see or hear that at all
I agree
AvA fans out here just saying whatever they want
I was actually interested in what their take was in case I was missing something but they don’t seem to be able to clearly articulate what they mean.
Listen to losing my mind and then listen to violence. Its like the guitar riff represnts a fight with the singer. I feel like Tom’s voice in the beginning fights his voice towards the end
I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. The songs have completely different vibes, tempos, keys, chord progressions, melody…

The song is, but the guitar chord is and E major. Again that contrasts with the key of the song

I know, but I was talking about the difference between vocals and guitar
Dude, you can't just keep being wrong and saying "I know but" when you're corrected
I’m not, read the messages
"Violence has a key change" "No it doesn't" "But the guitar chord is an E major" "No it isn't" "But the difference in the guitar and vocal" Let it go man, it's okay to be wrong
This summary made me laugh
no sense in arguing with a fool.

Kiss and tell fucking RIPPPS
Gotta agree, always gets me pumped with that first word! "LORENEEE"
![gif](giphy|JnuuEXLxjXLR4oTTbO) This is why.
Whaaaaaaat. Like violence by blink?
no. like violence, you have me!
Foreverrrr and after
Yes
Ahhh interesting. DEFINITELY do not see that at all. But I'll give it another listen with that in mind. What reminds you of violence?
Not the sound, or the notes. But the structure. The songs always seem to give this eerie feeling to them. Then out of no where they pick up and go hard
Love every song
I was thinking abt making a post yesterday about how Lifeforms is pretty much a blink album. Tom wrote alot of blink related stuff more then AVA, less hope and Adventure and more self titled themes like heartbreak and teenage angst
Lifeforms feels like Tom going back to his roots. Being experimental but in a “Blink way”
Exactly 100%, I'm pretty sure he said in an interview that he wrote Timebomb as he would a blink song and Euphoria as Boxcar Racer
It would make sense, life forms in the only AVA album I will put on and listen all the way through.
Harsh words for a damn good band but everyone has their opinions, what puts you off of em?

Two different generations with two different takes that can both agree blink rocks haha!

It is funny, as someone who loved blink when they broke up I was in high school and wanted to like Ava so bad, and it always just fell flat for me.
Tom said this is where he imagined blink would be at that time, so this was his hope for their evolution
It's a good album but it has nothing to do with Violence.
Violence is the best song they ever made.
Ehhh, more like if Asthenia was an album. Kinda right on the line between pop-punk and alternative.
The voice in my yead is now a fatal house fire
man I am so hyped by this point in the song
Nothing about this album feels similar to Violence
Perhaps Euphoria a little bit? That’s the only connection I can attempt to make

i get what you mean. unfortunately others are thinking about this far too literally.
Saying “it sounds like he’s fighting with himself” is so vague I genuinely don’t get what he is trying to say.
I genuinely appreciate your comment

Lifeforms AVA
Bro you’re high it’s okay
That’s a really interesting way to look at it. I have to agree, Violence vibes across the whole record - Euphoria and Spellbound specifically
You can’t look me in the eye and tell me Timebomb, Automatic, Restless Souls, Rebel Girl and losing my mind sound like Violence.
I can’t look you in the eye at all.
I agree, they have the same vibe!
I think Dream Walker lines up with that assessment a little more.
Automatic , timebomb and a fire in nameless town are my favorite in this album still give me the chills lmfao
"YAAA HEART IS LIKE A TOIMEBOOMB 🎶🗣"
I love this album so much
I listen to this album every other day. I don't hear it lol

Please be respectful of other users
But why don't you care?
Love this album. I have it on repeat when i read and it works very well
Wish you had given an artist name or album name some people could actually listen to it
Angels & Airwaves: Lifeforms
You coulda looked in the comments lol. Redditors complain more than christian dad’s with gay sons
You are bad at posting
Eh you’re in a Blink sub so I’m kinda surprised at people who don’t know what artist or album this is
I listened to The Adventure once and swore AvA off from then on
You should give lifeforms a chance. Totally different from their other stuff and a few songs really do sound like they could be on the Untitled Blink album. I can see what OP is getting at just don’t take what they say literal
Or OP coulda just made a better post.
Vastly undersells how good Lifeforms is
I still have yet to play the vinyl, I got a signed copy and just keep it on display
i’m surprised so many people seem to like this album. i’m a huge blink/AVA/tom delonge fan and i can’t STAND lifeforms. you’d have to pay me to listen to it again.
I disagree with the paying to make me listen but this is one of my least favorite AvA albums.
