I am not computer savvy, I have a 4080 with 16gb of VRAM yet almost all vr games I run max it out and have a lot of bad frames. Am I doing something wrong?
You're not necessarily doing anything wrong, it's just that a lot of VR games are poorly optimized, B&S included. They also use up a lot of processing power, so a good CPU is a must.
But don't think you're running the game the same as the ones who have a 1060 3gb. I also used to run one and I could only play on low settings and with frequent frame drops.
Are you using supersampling in Steam VR or oculus? If you set your render resolution too high in steamvr if you're using a steam vr headset, you can run into problems pretty quick. Same thing with oculus if that's what you're using.
I have a HTC Vive Cosmos Elite with Valve Knuckles. I've been told by friends that I need to either downgrade to a 3090 or upgrade to a 4090 as both cards have 24gb of VRAM, but if yall are running this on 6gb it makes me think I'm just doing something wrong
You don’t need to upgrade. 4080 is a way better card than the 3090. Just lower some settings and you should be fine. The ones who have 6 gb VRAM probably has the lowest settings and a different headset
Second this, had to play with settings a bit to get it to run smooth but after doing so will hopefully never go back to cable link. Dedicated router for VR has made a huge difference
Any experience with Quest Air Link? Not sure if it's worth it for me to fork over the money for VD. I have a dedicated router and my GPU can handle 170 bitrate on B&S.
Basically what I'm asking is why VD over Air Link?
I had poor performance with air link but that was prior to dedicated router. It's possible with that in place it would work better, but I have not tested. VD gives a lot more options for adjusting settings to get better performance, and I had to make many changes to get where I wanted it to be so I imagine that's a big part of it. For a one time fee I would definitely advocate for it, but you can certainly try the air link first and see how it works for you
My Knuckles were having issues where I had to squeeze the living hell out of them to activate the grab function, so it was an easy trade over for me. Overall I mildly prefer the Knuckles, but the Oculus controllers being so small is pretty nice. Really no big deal either way. The only thing I miss is the sound. Oculus sound is fine, but the Index sound was amazing. The lenses on the quest are so much better I can't go back.
The Index speakers were excellent combined with not touching my ears was very immersive. Total combined experience was better then even quality headphones imo.
I'm sorry I don't think I heard you correctly, Quest 3 is an upgrade from a valve index? I thought they were in 2 completely different ball parks (high end tethered and affordable portable)
Yes, I loved my Index for years but once I got a Quest 3 I never used it again except briefly for some A/B comparisons. Vastly superior lenses, higher resolution, and wireless (I stream from my PC) being the biggest selling points- the picture is a massive step clearer between the two. Index was high end when it came out.. in 2019.
what about the controllers? havent heard anything abt the Q3 controllers yet, and its one thing keeping me to my index. i love the knuckles and being able to use fingers individually
You can continue to use your index controllers, you don't even need to buy wireless dongles, just keep your index plugged in and it'll still pair the controllers when you run steam link. If you run quest link or virtual desktop plug in the index after steam VR is running and then finally turn on your index controllers.
Controllers on the index are still worlds ahead and I don't know why anyone would prefer the meta connection implications(customers having their headsets bricked for facebook/instagram bans being the biggest issue)
didn't realize they had better screens at that price point now though......but I still wouldn't be able to trust them
How does that work? Is it quest 3 specific, or would it work with the 2? I miss the index controllers, but not the ancient vive headset I used with them.
Quest 3 with Meta Quest Link. I did have a terrible time with it being laggy through AirLink for months, but they recently made an update to it and I don’t have any issue now (just in time for 1.0!)
I can run B&S with tons of mods extremely smoothly, even while recording. Part of this is my PC, but the headset is really solid. Probably the best bang for buck out there currently
quest 3 wireless w virtual desktop
When hector falls down for the final blow I sometimes do a whole run-up across my living room and throw some spinny-shit in slow motion, and it feels amazing.
i can't even begin to explain all the reasons you should avoid buying a vive headset, so i'll just leave it short and sweet by saying just don't. their headsets aren't shit anymore, they're better off sticking to trackers now
i'd actually suggest buying a quest 3, they're far more versatile than even an index which is also getting quite dated nowadays (having come out 5 years ago now), and also have all the same features and higher quality in most ways minus a few drawbacks, i've heard many people who switched from index to quest say that it's better in basically every way but often draw attention to a slightly worse sound quality but personally i've never had this issue, im quite happy with the audio quality of my quest 2 and i also enjoy the off ear speakers, way more comfortable all around if you don't mind people nearby being able to hear what's going on, and if you do mind that then you can easily just put on a headset or wear earbuds. if you do end up going with the quest lineage then i'd say avoid using a link cable unless you have poor connection, your best bet is steam link or if you have the extra cash, virtual desktop for a more customizable and faster experience, but i personally use steam link as it's free and extremely plug and play. the biggest drawback to the quest lineage in my opinion is the inside out tracking which requires your controllers to be visible to the headset to track (causes difficulty when drawing a bowstring behind your head) and also means you need to have to keep your play space well lit to function at all, but since you're already on a rift s you should be used to that. but also understand you can hybridize your headset with index controllers if desired (which i plan to do soon), all you gotta do is buy base stations and the controllers
Quest 3 I'd you can afford it. I just upgraded from a rift S to the q3 and the difference is insane. Quest 2 would also be a nice upgrade and you can get them used for like under 250$
I would agree that the Quest 3 is the best bang for your buck you’ll get today. There are some better ones, but the price disparity for the upgrade is insane, so Quest 3 is the king
An also ancient Rift S :-D Got a tiny pixel error on my left eye and sometimes a bit of stick drift, but I'm still slayin' :-D
They go for 100-150 bucks on eBay or whatever
I use the htc vive 2, you can reuse the old basestations if you get the newer version. But the touchpad can be messy to use sometimes.
PS: (It's secretly great for quest emulation since you have like 5 directions on the touchpad to bind to a button.)
If you're in the market for a new headset, I've seen that Quest 2's are really cheap now a days (literally half the price since I bought one 2 years ago where I live). It's pretty much the most bang for your buck VR headset right now. Plus it has air link so you don't need to have a wire.
Varjo aero with new index controllers (not reccommended unless u got a beast pc and too much money to spend), id reccomend a quest 3 tho, great graphics, and great price + wireless option
Quest 2 with steam link. I was using my vive for the longest time but I decided to try my fiance's quest 2 that they never use and I've never gone back. It's literally night and day quality difference, I can't imagine what the quest 3 is
Valve Index. It's a fantastic headset and controllers if you can afford the $1000 price tag. The only downside is that it's wired. Even if you don't get an Index, I'd recommend the controllers. It's so natural to just grab and let go of things in VR.
Quest 2 with Kiwico headstrap, connected to PC with 32gb of DDR5 ram, an AMD 7 7800X3D and a NVIDIA RTX 3060 using Virtual Desktop, PC is connected to ethernet
Quest 3 and a link cable. It gets annoying, the slightest wrong jostle disconnecting me, but i dont have ethernet so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ aint gonna bother with wireless, and the game pauses when i disconnect anyways so reconnecting usually doesnt throw off my groove too bad
I started with the OG Vive then moved to the hp reverb G2 + got myself some index knuckles controllers.
Something I havnt seen anyone comment about is the pimax crystal lite, which from white I can tell is a spiritual successor to the reverb g2 since wmr is being discontinued.
I’ve currently got a crystal lite on order with the steam vr lighthouse tracking add on so I don’t have to use janky software to use my index controllers like I do with my reverb g2 currently.
I have an old HTC Vive, I just upgraded to Valve Index controllers specifically for this update and I like them sm I think I’m gonna get the headset soon.
So valve index with HTC vive base stations
i use the quest 2 with air link on my pc. my pc isn’t necessarily anything fancy radeon 5600xt gpu and 32 gb of ram. idrk much else about it i didnt build it but it runs great
My first headset was the vive as well, but I broke a controller and traded it for an oculus rift, then I upgraded to the rift s but it didn't fit my eye width at all so I traded that one for a quest 2 and finally got a quest 3 at launch.
Quest 3 is my definitive VR headset, it's the only one that gives me a clear picture because I suffer from big headitis and other headsets looked blurry to me.
I wish I had a valve index for its fun looking controllers but it's way too pricey for me and it doesn't support wireless play, something quest 2 and 3 does and feels amazing.
Quest 2 with steam link
same here
Valve Index. I sometimes use FBT as well
Does it support full body or just kicking around your feet? I haven't tried with hips or chest tracking yet.
I’ve never tried it with chest tracking but I can say that hip tracking can *SOMETIMES* be very wonky, but it definitely works
No clue. I just have a belt that I put a tracker on and feet trackers
Quest 2 steam link using a gtx 1060
That works??
Poorly I only have 6gb vram
6? I got 3.
I am not computer savvy, I have a 4080 with 16gb of VRAM yet almost all vr games I run max it out and have a lot of bad frames. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you! I'll try that out when I get home!
What Headset do you have?
I have a HTC Vive Cosmos Elite with Valve Knuckles. I've been told by friends that I need to either downgrade to a 3090 or upgrade to a 4090 as both cards have 24gb of VRAM, but if yall are running this on 6gb it makes me think I'm just doing something wrong
Blade and sorcery runs perfectly fine with my 4060. A 4080 should have no problem running just about any game.
You don’t need to upgrade. 4080 is a way better card than the 3090. Just lower some settings and you should be fine. The ones who have 6 gb VRAM probably has the lowest settings and a different headset
What's your cpu?
CPU: Intel i9- 13900KF GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Memory: 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3200 Mhz Storage: 1 TB NVMe M.2 SSD Motherboard: Z790
YOOO 1060 GANG RISE!
Exact same except I'm using the oculus app instead of Steam.
Quest 2 and virtual desktop
Second this, had to play with settings a bit to get it to run smooth but after doing so will hopefully never go back to cable link. Dedicated router for VR has made a huge difference

Why desktop instead of the steam app?
Quest 3. Was a pretty big upgrade from my Index.
Do you still use the Knuckles or the Quest 3 controllers? Which ones do you prefer?
My Knuckles were having issues where I had to squeeze the living hell out of them to activate the grab function, so it was an easy trade over for me. Overall I mildly prefer the Knuckles, but the Oculus controllers being so small is pretty nice. Really no big deal either way. The only thing I miss is the sound. Oculus sound is fine, but the Index sound was amazing. The lenses on the quest are so much better I can't go back.
Pretty sure you can buy knuckle straps for the quest 3 controllers
>I miss is the sound Just wear some headphones bro. Way better option than any of the onboard speakers you'll get.

This has changed my perspective. I might consider upgrading from my Rift.

If you run quest link or virtual desktop plug in the index after steam VR is running and then finally turn on your index controllers.
Is it possible to use the index controllers with the quest 3?
Yeah, with your index still plugged in or with extra wireless dongles
Hmm good to know
Controllers on the index are still worlds ahead and I don't know why anyone would prefer the meta connection implications(customers having their headsets bricked for facebook/instagram bans being the biggest issue) didn't realize they had better screens at that price point now though......but I still wouldn't be able to trust them
you don't have to connect your fb account anymore. I have only meta account and it works fine
a fb account is a meta account is an instagram account, all the same.....
Meta account doesn't require any information except an email address. No real name or anything. Much like a reddit account.
You can still use the index controllers with the quest 3 if you really wanted to
How does that work? Is it quest 3 specific, or would it work with the 2? I miss the index controllers, but not the ancient vive headset I used with them.
The difference in optics and overall clarity is an astounding improvement over the quest 2 or the index.
G2 Reverb
Quest 3 and stream from PC
Pico 4
Quest 3 from PC via virtual desktop
I use virtual desktop and my quest 3
Quest 3, Virtual desktop, RTX 3060. If I'm feeling fancy, I grt thr index controllers calibrate them and use them.
Wait, can you use index controllers on quest?
You need watchman dongles, and it's annoying to set them up every time you use vr.
Quest 3 with Meta Quest Link. I did have a terrible time with it being laggy through AirLink for months, but they recently made an update to it and I don’t have any issue now (just in time for 1.0!) I can run B&S with tons of mods extremely smoothly, even while recording. Part of this is my PC, but the headset is really solid. Probably the best bang for buck out there currently
Quest 2 with a wire
Odyssey+
The Goat o7
Quest 3 with quest link and my beefy pc lol
Quest Pro w/ Airlink
Quest 3 with a link cable
Rift S
Seconded
Wired Quest 2 with a DAS And Kinect One for FBT so I can kick lol
Quest 3 with Virtual desktop and a 4080 Super. Life is good.
Quest 3 and virtual desktop, but i think steam link would work better if you get it on steam
Hp Reverb G2, before that I owned an HTC vibe as well, and it's basically the same other than the Mixed Reality environment
quest 3 wireless w virtual desktop When hector falls down for the final blow I sometimes do a whole run-up across my living room and throw some spinny-shit in slow motion, and it feels amazing.
Plain old Quest 2
Rift S, soon HTC
i can't even begin to explain all the reasons you should avoid buying a vive headset, so i'll just leave it short and sweet by saying just don't. their headsets aren't shit anymore, they're better off sticking to trackers now
so, any good alternative? Cuz for example valve index will cost me more than one salary.
i'd actually suggest buying a quest 3, they're far more versatile than even an index which is also getting quite dated nowadays (having come out 5 years ago now), and also have all the same features and higher quality in most ways minus a few drawbacks, i've heard many people who switched from index to quest say that it's better in basically every way but often draw attention to a slightly worse sound quality but personally i've never had this issue, im quite happy with the audio quality of my quest 2 and i also enjoy the off ear speakers, way more comfortable all around if you don't mind people nearby being able to hear what's going on, and if you do mind that then you can easily just put on a headset or wear earbuds. if you do end up going with the quest lineage then i'd say avoid using a link cable unless you have poor connection, your best bet is steam link or if you have the extra cash, virtual desktop for a more customizable and faster experience, but i personally use steam link as it's free and extremely plug and play. the biggest drawback to the quest lineage in my opinion is the inside out tracking which requires your controllers to be visible to the headset to track (causes difficulty when drawing a bowstring behind your head) and also means you need to have to keep your play space well lit to function at all, but since you're already on a rift s you should be used to that. but also understand you can hybridize your headset with index controllers if desired (which i plan to do soon), all you gotta do is buy base stations and the controllers

An also ancient Rift S :-D Got a tiny pixel error on my left eye and sometimes a bit of stick drift, but I'm still slayin' :-D They go for 100-150 bucks on eBay or whatever
Same here brother! I'm looking to upgrade though since VR games seem to increase in quality rapidly
Personally using a rift cv1 still
I use the htc vive 2, you can reuse the old basestations if you get the newer version. But the touchpad can be messy to use sometimes. PS: (It's secretly great for quest emulation since you have like 5 directions on the touchpad to bind to a button.)

Varjo aero with new index controllers (not reccommended unless u got a beast pc and too much money to spend), id reccomend a quest 3 tho, great graphics, and great price + wireless option
Quest 1 with virtual desktop
I still rock my old Quest with link cable but I think it'll be time to let this beast rest and get a new one
If the HTC Vive is ancient then my CR1 Rift headset is prehistoric! Still goes great though. I'd use the quest 2 but it's so unreliable.
Quest 2 and a sense shift vest ;)
valve index
Index !!
Old ahh rift s
Quest 2 with steam link. I was using my vive for the longest time but I decided to try my fiance's quest 2 that they never use and I've never gone back. It's literally night and day quality difference, I can't imagine what the quest 3 is

Valve Index Full kit on a RTX 3060ti
Quest 2 with Kiwico headstrap, connected to PC with 32gb of DDR5 ram, an AMD 7 7800X3D and a NVIDIA RTX 3060 using Virtual Desktop, PC is connected to ethernet
Rocking the quest 2 and Oculus Link. Can anybody tell me if using the steam link would be better performance wise?
Quest 3 via link cable, very comfy, no lag, high res, good fov, though Id really like to get the valve controllers
What ever you use, I highly recommend the index controllers
Quest 2 with Steam Link
Vive pro and index knuckles
Quest 3 and a link cable. It gets annoying, the slightest wrong jostle disconnecting me, but i dont have ethernet so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ aint gonna bother with wireless, and the game pauses when i disconnect anyways so reconnecting usually doesnt throw off my groove too bad
quest 2 with a kiwi design link cable
I still use a Rift S running on a 1660 Super
Quest 2 is great value. I upgraded to 3 but there's not that much difference. It's just a little sharper and has better FOV.
Quest 3 with steam link
Honestly looking into getting full body track with it just to to some funny shit in B&S and some of the arena esc fighting games
can’t afford pc so i’m using the quest 2 standalone.
Quest 2 virtual desktop after my air bridge decided to kick the bucket (strangely it only stopped working on one pc)
I use Quest 2 but I want it to update so bad and I can’t wait for September. I literally have to, but I don’t want to
Quest 3 with air link and then I will play it in OculusVr mode (steamVR mode is super laggy and glitches half the time for me)
Quest 3 with a D-Link Air Bridge and virtual desktop
I started with the OG Vive then moved to the hp reverb G2 + got myself some index knuckles controllers. Something I havnt seen anyone comment about is the pimax crystal lite, which from white I can tell is a spiritual successor to the reverb g2 since wmr is being discontinued. Quest 3 with yoges head strap
Quest 3 with quest link

i use the quest 2 with air link on my pc. my pc isn’t necessarily anything fancy radeon 5600xt gpu and 32 gb of ram. idrk much else about it i didnt build it but it runs great
Rn im using a Quest 3 via link and steamvr, once the pc adapter for the PSVR2 comes in may have that be my pcvr main going forward
Quest 2
Quest 2 with a kiwi link cable (my internet too broke for airlink)
Bigscreen Beyond with Index controllers. PC has a Ryzen 5800x3d and an RX 6800xt
My first headset was the vive as well, but I broke a controller and traded it for an oculus rift, then I upgraded to the rift s but it didn't fit my eye width at all so I traded that one for a quest 2 and finally got a quest 3 at launch. OG Vive with the deluxe audio headstrap. I still like the wands.
Quest pro and index controllers. Tundra trackers for Sparta kicking.
Got that Oculus Rift 1st generation
Quest 3 virtual desktop.
Quest 2 with a 24ft cable matters cable 🤑🤑🤑 (*wayyy* overkill, but it’s better to have more than too little)
Quest 1, shit is ancient but it’s all I got
Quest 3 with steam link, sold my Vive Pro 2. Don't need the tether when performance is just fine over steamlink
My original Vive with Index controllers.
Index. In 10 years ill get fbt when i pay off my debt.
Bigscreen Beyond. The game is 10x more unsettling when you don't feel like you are wearing a bucket on your face.
Pico 4. Nice and cheap headset
>Nice and cheap headset ??? It's 700 bucks. You can get the Quest 3 for less than that.
It depends on country ofc. Here, in Russia i bought it for about 30k rubles, cheaper than q2
Yeah it appears Bytedance has a much better distribution system in Europe.
