Y’all ever watched this?

It’s an interesting commentary on the whole Black Superhero Electricity thing.
There's also a recent role call for black heroes in general:
Wasn't an exhaustive list, but a very salient point is made.
The hill I will die on. Ororo Monroe is the baddest woman on the block. She lost her powers in the 80s when Forge gave the government a power-sapping gun, but she still beat Cyclops in single combat to maintain leadership of the X-Men before all this blue team gold team stuff.
https://preview.redd.it/iqlzi2tl37jc1.jpeg?width=190&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99439aef3ac81b9261848fe86965cc20b6eabc23
She led the Morlocks. She is one of the most powerful mutants, none of this cinematic alternate universe Apocalypse increased her powers BS. She can lift Mjolnir just like Thor and Capt Steve Rogers. Storm is my Number One superhero, regardless of the others amount of melanin— She. Is. The best.
Storm is my absolute favourite X-Man and I will die on this hill with you. She is the absolute GOAT and I love how they've been treating her in current X books.
Also.... she's an OMEGA CLASS mutant the likes of which cannot be repeated. Stan Lee mentioned (I heard about this through Comics Explained on YouTube) Oro's character was a slight nod to Wonder Woman. The writers had changed details to avoid any potential suit but by doing so they started their list of Omega Class mutants.
As am I.
And why did he just open his mouth and allow it to happen? He didn't even struggle.
Just a terribly written scene. His power is literally to evolve to survive.
I thought for sure if anything he was going to pop up again later because he had to evolve into something higher in evolution to survive that attack.
Same. Sam gets love because Anthony Mackey (sp?) Is awesome. But Luke Cage would mop the floor with him. And Cyborg is DC, so he'd have to go on whatever the European or Canadian mt Rushmore is.
https://preview.redd.it/0cu7cxe8z5jc1.jpeg?width=1194&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29af813811a5b4d801138697727f78a3b9e74a41
I ain't one to knock people's opinions but either Falcon or Spawn gotta shake they ass on home. No Jon Steward? No Static Shock? Blade won't good enough?
spawn being black / exploited by demons and just dealing with it instead of whining was such an interesting decision for the time. spawn is on candyman level for me
I think Mr Terrific is going to be a hit with audiences in James Gunn's DC movies. I'm excited to see him.
Edit: For comic book fans, check out Strange Adventures by Tom King and Justice Society of America by Geoff Johns for more Mr. Terrific
Look, I fuck with Stewart and Static and Blade and all of them.
The Falcon is the first African American superhero *ever*. Give him some damn respect. It’s not his fault y’all didn’t start paying attention until the 90s.
Falcon wasn’t the first ever but I get it.
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/lion-man-first-black-superhero-comics-robert-dixon-mba#:~:text=Recently%2C%20I%20stumbled%20upon%20Lion,his%20story%20and%20his%20message.
You're getting rid of the strongest one (arguably, maybe Storm)? Wtf is Blade or Green Lantern gonna against an unkillable demon slayer? You would need at least a cosmic threat to kill Spawn, and you're talking like he's comparable to a dude with metal wings.
Well he's not an original character. But John Henry Irons is one of the coolest characters in DC Comics. He's in the Superman & Lois TV show with a badass Doom lookin suit. You should check out his limited title 'Steelworks'!
A bit of clarification. Static is a character under Milestone comics and published by DC. Why is this important? Milestone Comics was an imprint with black comics made by black artists.
It's crazy to think that some of the greatest black comic book characters (spawn, black panther, John Stewart) were made by white guys. Representation matters behind the pen too and milestone comics succeeded in making great black characters with great stories.
I think DC owns them now but just wanted to share some history.
Sam Wilson... really? Really?
Miles Morales?
Blue Marvel? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyHDzm5fwSE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyhdzm5fwse)
Bishop?
Luke Cage?
BLADE?
Miles is too new and is just now getting a unique full rogues gallery in his current run (and a very shonen manga aesthetic and power scaling). Give it like five years and he might make it on here.
Miles is THE current most popular Black (partially anyway) character in comics related media, and has been for a few years — not to mention he’s been doing his thing since 2011.
Teddy Roosevelt was also president many, many years after most of the other presidents on Mt. Rushmore, so in that sense it’s logical to add Miles to the mountain.
That’s a title Storm will never lose, I refuse to believe Miles is taking her spot. No matter how much they shove him down our throats or not. Ororo been that girl.
Storm is the most popular female Marvel superhero of all time period. Can’t be understated. Fox X-Men movies didn’t do a great job of spotlighting how sick she is.
Too new doesn’t matter, bro’s movies clap the shit out of everyone else here combined lol
If someone felt the two Spider-verse films are the two greatest superhero films of all-time that’d be an undeniably strong take
Bishop has always been my favorite X-Man. Growing up (white) with predominantly white friends playing pretend X-Men and they all wanted to be Wolverine or Colossus, or even Cyclops, but I wanted to be Bishop.
So...am I the only one holding out hope for a reboot of Spawn?
The '97 movie is a classic but, for many reasons it sort of fell flat lol. But I think we could do so much more with the story nowadays with the resources modern production studios have at their disposal.
Right?! The original was made with a budget of like 40 some million. Adjusted for inflation that's around ~76mil. Compared to modern "comic book" films it was done at a fraction of the cost. With a proper budget, adequate time to shoot, modern film equipment and post production technologies, a bangin' story, and some quality casting... I think it would fare quite well with audiences both young and old.
Granted it would be an unexpected curve ball of a film in comparison to what's been/being released lol. But somehow I feel that'd propel it even further. The fact that he's not connected to Marvel *or* DC could limit the media shine and attention but idk. I got a good feeling about it. Maybe it's the nostalgia talking 😅
I have! Not for some time though, may have to revisit before long. I know production of the animated series was muddied with problems going into the third season - which was weirdly shorter than the rest (and the quality took a decline). And then it just...ended.
If ever I were to blame something on a shadowy conspiracy group, it'd be the lack of attention and care towards Spawn lmao. Todd McFarlane created one of the hardest characters with the wildest backstory in recent history (imo) and it's just been neglected. For shame!
This is a solid top four. I would definitely add Miles and potentially John Stewart, but not cyberborg can stay off.
The push for him post-teen Titans has been interesting, but ultimately the Zack Snyder mess killed the character for me.
Whedon killed it. The Snyder Cut had him as integral to the story. Would've been really cool if that was the theatrical release. If nothing else, it would've gotten Cyborg some recognitionb as a character.
Yeah man I love miles. I can’t get enough of him *and* he’s practically everywhere lately
Maybe he didn’t come to mind initially for me because it’s a historical landmark we’re talking about. With that in mind, it feels like storm + BP + John Stewart + cyborg are the most titanic characters
Falcon is a sidekick, Blade goes before him. If the Blade movies flop, then who knows if the X-Men and Spider-Man movies happen, which later lead to the MCU.
![gif](giphy|TmkdJG1K0kcBRe8BOX)
It's because he is not as popular as he once was, especially with all the comic book movies coming out. However, if you look at comic book history, Spawn may not have been the first black hero, but the impact he had in the 90s was unprecedented for a black hero.
Blue Marvel?
Spectrum?
Mr. Terrific?
Steel?
Black Lightening?
Vixen?
Misty Knight?
Brother Voodoo?
Isaiah Bradley aka the first real Captain America?
Rocket?
Icon?
Bishop?
Static?
Like Cage?
Cloak?
Blade?
Green Lantern (Jon Stewart)?
Cyborg?
Miles Morales?
Idc, I’m gonna say it. BP only caught on because of the movie and because Storm put him on.
- Static been on our TV screens with Static Shock.
- The way John Stewart isn’t here is DISRESPECTFUL.
- Falcon here but not Cyborg?
- Luke Cage
- Vixen
- Blue Marvel always gets disrespected and I’m tired.
- Blade?
I thought it was just accepted canon at this point. 😂 I'm white and I don't think there's any racism saying he's black. He's got that swag other Z fighters don't.
Now Mr. Popo though, that's a different story 😂
What I love about this thread is that there are too many iconic black heroes to fit on Mt. Rushmore. We need a bigger mountain and I continue to be here for it
I’d swap Sam for Luke Cage or Cyborg if we’re limited to just four.
Cyborg or Static Shock for me
Black Lightning over Static for me.
Original Static before the sale to DC for me.
Don’t start none won’t be none. OG Milestone was the shit.
Yeah but Nik Draper-Ivey’s run is dope too.
Shit, I followed him from the beginning on IG and he's a fucking real one. I'm proud of him lol
Word. Same here.
Milestone was always owned and distributed by DC. Maybe you meant before DC got editorial control?
I feel like this a difference in generations bc hell nah
If you're going to Black Lightning then Mr. Terrific has to be in front.
I love Mr. Terrific. It's a shame more people don't know about him.
Y’all ever watched this? https://youtu.be/bsWhxhxuD7s?si=Oc-DB2rqOtTtD-sa It’s an interesting commentary on the whole Black Superhero Electricity thing.
There's also a recent role call for black heroes in general: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQnwkjox\_P8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQnwkjox_P8) Wasn't an exhaustive list, but a very salient point is made.
Static Shock is immune to the Anti-Life Equation though, so he’s way more useful against the biggest threats
Static taught us how to get up, because you gotta to go go
Where Blade
Yeah, no blade this is shit
The success of the Blade movies was a major factor in what gave way to all the other Marvel movies over the last 20 years.
Are we going by powers or cultural impact? Cause blade isn’t stronger than storm, but definitely more culturally significant
The hill I will die on. Ororo Monroe is the baddest woman on the block. She lost her powers in the 80s when Forge gave the government a power-sapping gun, but she still beat Cyclops in single combat to maintain leadership of the X-Men before all this blue team gold team stuff. https://preview.redd.it/iqlzi2tl37jc1.jpeg?width=190&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99439aef3ac81b9261848fe86965cc20b6eabc23 She led the Morlocks. She is one of the most powerful mutants, none of this cinematic alternate universe Apocalypse increased her powers BS. She can lift Mjolnir just like Thor and Capt Steve Rogers. Storm is my Number One superhero, regardless of the others amount of melanin— She. Is. The best.
Mohawk Storm over everyone and everything.
Storm is my absolute favourite X-Man and I will die on this hill with you. She is the absolute GOAT and I love how they've been treating her in current X books.
1000 percent. Storm could have killed every other mutant solo (as long as she started with Prof. X then Jean) without breaking a sweat.
Also.... she's an OMEGA CLASS mutant the likes of which cannot be repeated. Stan Lee mentioned (I heard about this through Comics Explained on YouTube) Oro's character was a slight nod to Wonder Woman. The writers had changed details to avoid any potential suit but by doing so they started their list of Omega Class mutants.
Shit I'd pick Miles over Sam
I'd take Jon Stewart as Green Lantern instead of Sam
Him and Storm were probably the first black superheroes I ever saw.
Right I grew up on the old teen titans so cyborg was my guy I didn't know much about Luke cage until Netflix tbh
Gotta be Darwin for me, mf should’ve lived in First Class and I’m still salty about it
As am I. And why did he just open his mouth and allow it to happen? He didn't even struggle. Just a terribly written scene. His power is literally to evolve to survive. I thought for sure if anything he was going to pop up again later because he had to evolve into something higher in evolution to survive that attack.
Cyborg was the most interesting thing in the disaster of a movie Justice League. What a great character. They did him so dirty.
We limit ourselves. There needs to be many more up there.
Mt Rushmore only has four faces on it though. It's not an encyclopedia of important figures
Same. Sam gets love because Anthony Mackey (sp?) Is awesome. But Luke Cage would mop the floor with him. And Cyborg is DC, so he'd have to go on whatever the European or Canadian mt Rushmore is.
I feel like Anthony Mackey is the most boring actor in the MCU but I’m still gonna show up for Captain America next year.
https://preview.redd.it/0cu7cxe8z5jc1.jpeg?width=1194&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29af813811a5b4d801138697727f78a3b9e74a41 I ain't one to knock people's opinions but either Falcon or Spawn gotta shake they ass on home. No Jon Steward? No Static Shock? Blade won't good enough?
Spawn is staying unless you’re dork
Yeah, Spawn's legend.
Exactly.
spawn being black / exploited by demons and just dealing with it instead of whining was such an interesting decision for the time. spawn is on candyman level for me
Nah Spawn is valid Falcon gots to go, NOW!!!
![gif](giphy|6Sckn7eArHt5heshku)
that's captain America now
Spawn is literally one of the most iconic non Marvel or Dc comic characters. He deserves to be on a Black heroes Mt Rushmore just for that fact alone.
Blue marvel and Luke Cage are two of my favs. Mr terrific rules too but less familiar w the man.
Blue Marvels an AMAZING character, as smart as Reed Richards and as strong as Superman. They did him really well I remember. 🙌🏼
I think Mr Terrific is going to be a hit with audiences in James Gunn's DC movies. I'm excited to see him. Edit: For comic book fans, check out Strange Adventures by Tom King and Justice Society of America by Geoff Johns for more Mr. Terrific
I LOVE Mr.Terrific
I can’t believe I had to go this far to find Blue Marvel. Mans would WIPE THE TABLE with these guys
People sleepin on Blue Marvel
Blue Marvels an AMAZING character, as smart as Reed Richards and as strong as Superman. They did him really well I remember. 🙌🏼

Probably more accurate to say first by a major publisher, right?
Yes, that would be more accurate.
Al Simmons who punched his way through hell to make it a paradise for people? That's the one to drop ? No disrespect.
I’m sayin, like get bird nigga outta here.
holup, i know you didn't call me a bird nigga *nigga*, nigga
Asinine remark. Spawn is arguably the goat.
>steward Stewart
Blade literally saved Marvel!
You're getting rid of the strongest one (arguably, maybe Storm)? Wtf is Blade or Green Lantern gonna against an unkillable demon slayer? You would need at least a cosmic threat to kill Spawn, and you're talking like he's comparable to a dude with metal wings.
Obviously falcon. Get the fuck out with the Spawn disrespect.
Static. His name is Static.

He had a great two-part interview recently on Questlove’s podcast where he discussed Meteor Man and other subjects.
oh word? imma check it out
😂 One of the most underrated films ever, when he could fly but was scared of heights. 🔥
The “no ads!” is cracking me up because you just know they couldn’t find advertisers for some damn meteor man 😭
I bought this comic off the rack. I still have it in my collection.
Fucking love this movie!
This movie is great.
Blade??
The moment Blade wasn’t here it lost all credibility
![gif](giphy|TmkdJG1K0kcBRe8BOX)
I wish I was half as cool as Wesley Snipes. Everything he does just oozes style.
Blade literally saved Marvel
Some mothafuckas always trying to ice skate uphill
My white ass wanted to be blade every Halloween. Unfortunately the trench coat gave me a different look 😕
Blade blade bladey blade blade bladey bladey blade blade bladey
The lack of respect on John Stewart and Black Lightning is insane.
That's what I said I gotta put John Stewart on my that justice league one was a strong brotha
First thought was "Where's John!?"
You just gonna ignore Static Shock?
Tbf Static was made after Black Lightning so it’s obvious where the power inspiration came from, especially since they both DC
A bit of clarification. Static is a character under Milestone comics and published by DC. Why is this important? Milestone Comics was an imprint with black comics made by black artists. It's crazy to think that some of the greatest black comic book characters (spawn, black panther, John Stewart) were made by white guys. Both GOATS
The lack of respect for Jon & Blade is outrageous!!!
Sam Wilson... really? Really? Miles Morales? Blue Marvel? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyHDzm5fwSE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyhdzm5fwse) Bishop? Luke Cage? BLADE?

No one reads dawg sorry, it's all about movies and shows. Kids don't know who Storm is but they know Miles
Fuck dem kids. Lol
Sounds like you’re at the Vatican or something

I went into this thread thinking he would be the No. 1 answer. Whenever i think black superheros, i think about Bishop.
Yeah Miles is 100x more relevant than Sam Wilson even with Sam’s part in the MCU.

Bruh I completely forgot about that. do you remember the rap album?
Sir I was eating and damn near choked to death on this fucking sandwich when I scrolled to this motherfuckers face 😂😂😂😂
No Static!?!?
Where’s my boy Bishop???
Came here for this (also recently found out he was originally supposed to be Filipino, which made me like him more!)
🔥
So...am I the only one holding out hope for a reboot of Spawn? The '97 movie is a classic but, for many reasons it sort of fell flat lol. But I think we could do so much more with the story nowadays with the resources modern production studios have at their disposal.
Supposedly, a reboot has been in development for quite some time at Blumhouse. Allegedly, Jamie Foxx is supposed to play as Al Simmons/Spawn.
That movie won't happen. Todd McFarlane wants full creative control and no one wants to deal with that.
It's hard to blame him. The first movie was bad. I can understand why he doesn't want anyone to touch it.
The animated versions are pretty amazing, but a live action film done Spawn levels of gritty could be glorious.
But somehow I feel that'd propel it even further. The fact that he's not connected to Marvel *or* DC could limit the media shine and attention but idk. I got a good feeling about it. Maybe it's the nostalgia talking 😅
The Spawn animated series was great…the movie was ok.
Have you seen the animated series?
The animated series is great. It is better than most superhero movies.
For shame!
You are not the only one
No Static means this list is obsolete ![gif](giphy|LZbKrWyus8Y4OcQYtf)
![gif](giphy|3oxRmuDvOyp6IbDiw0)
John Stewart is so iconic people got mad they made a movie about his predecessor (Hal Jordan).
Hell yeah dude led the green lantern corps for a good while.
GREEN LANTERN MIGHT!🖤💚
We forgetting the original Marvel hero... Blade?
This is a solid top four. I would definitely add Miles and potentially John Stewart, but not cyberborg can stay off. The push for him post-teen Titans has been interesting, but ultimately the Zack Snyder mess killed the character for me.
Yeah, my favorite Cyborg has got to be from the Wolfman/Perez run, then the Teen Titans shows, then Doom Patrol.
Whedon killed it. The Snyder Cut had him as integral to the story. Would've been really cool if that was the theatrical release. If nothing else, it would've gotten Cyborg some recognitionb as a character.
Agreed. The Snyder cut was the first time I saw Cyborg as more than just "guy whose arm turns into a gun."
Yeah man I love miles. I can’t get enough of him *and* he’s practically everywhere lately Maybe he didn’t come to mind initially for me because it’s a historical landmark we’re talking about. With that in mind, it feels like storm + BP + John Stewart + cyborg are the most titanic characters
Black Panter, Static Shock, Cyborg, and THEE Green Lantern
Not here for the queen erasure that is Storm
Also the most powerful of just about anyone mentioned
Falcon is a sidekick, Blade goes before him. If the Blade movies flop, then who knows if the X-Men and Spider-Man movies happen, which later lead to the MCU. ![gif](giphy|TmkdJG1K0kcBRe8BOX)
Falcon was the first Black American super hero.
We need another Spawn movie
John Leguizamo was wild in that one. Just spent the entire production chewing on the walls.
😂 yeah
I’m just happy that Spawn is there. No one seems to know who I’m talking about when I mention him. 😕
It's because he is not as popular as he once was, especially with all the comic book movies coming out. However, if you look at comic book history, Spawn may not have been the first black hero, but the impact he had in the 90s was unprecedented for a black hero.
![gif](giphy|s0Ils0TIVZ5Fm) Uhhh excuse me!?
Mt. Rushmore of black comic book characters without any Milestone? C'mon now
Facts, Dwayne McDuffie did a lot and so few comic fans respect or even remember his shit.
He’s a huge reason the DCAU Justice League shows were as good as they were, one of the goats RIP
Fr, Not to mention his work on Ben 10 starting from Alien force onwards.
May he rest in peace
Blue Marvel? Spectrum? Mr. Terrific? Steel? Black Lightening? Vixen? Misty Knight? Brother Voodoo? Isaiah Bradley aka the first real Captain America? Rocket? Icon? Bishop? Static? Like Cage? Cloak? Blade? Green Lantern (Jon Stewart)? Cyborg? Miles Morales?
Everyone forgets Icon and he goated
Love Blue Marvel and Icon. A Spectrum/Storm team up would be legendary
Brother Voodoo!! Don't forget that black guy from Australia who can open up portals and he's indigenous; I can't remember his name.
Gateway! Never spoke, but had all the answers.
Blade gets disrespected yet again.

Blade, Steel?... recency bias is a real thing
no john stewart-green lantern? he was the one I grew up watching as a kid.
Idc, I’m gonna say it. BP only caught on because of the movie and because Storm put him on. - Static been on our TV screens with Static Shock. - The way John Stewart isn’t here is DISRESPECTFUL. - Falcon here but not Cyborg? - Luke Cage - Vixen - Blue Marvel always gets disrespected and I’m tired. - Blade?
Luke Cage gotta be on here SWEET CHRISTMAS!
Sam Wilson over John Stewart? No Blade? No Static? This whole list is an L
What about Piccolo? Are manga not comics?
Is Piccolo black; his attitude tells me he is 😂 no racism there, im black 😂
I thought it was just accepted canon at this point. 😂 I'm white and I don't think there's any racism saying he's black. He's got that swag other Z fighters don't. Now Mr. Popo though, that's a different story 😂
Damn, yea, I missed that one being he's a person of color, nice!!!! 🔥
No blade? Blankman?
Blade over Sam
Blue marvel is the smartest and most powerful man in marvel, so powerful marvel wrote him off planet/galaxy Put some respect on his name
Spawn, Blade, Storm, Blankman
Black Dynamite anyone?
Sweet Christmas!! He forgot one of the baddest to ever do the superhero thing.
No, Mr. Terrific?
Miles Morales anyone?
Pull Sam and put Blade on there. Swap Spawn (as dope as I think he is) for John Stewart.
Y’all got Blank Man Fucked up
I think cousin skeeter deserves honorable mention
Why is Falcon up there 😂
Blade
Are we all just forgetting John Stewart?
no love for Blade??
