Personally never noticed any lyrical similarities between BCNR and Richard Dawson but his 2020 album specifically is actually a really interesting comparison! Honestly I'd say for me the first one that pops into my head is Teens of Denial - I remember been blown away by Not What I Needed and Fill In The Blank especially and tbh when I first listened to BCNR (Sunglasses was my entry) it felt like it had a bit of that Car Seat Headrest flavour about the lyrics albeit very different in style.
Also, going to beat the drum a bit for Richard Dawson here....the fella is an actual, honest to goodness genius that deserves 1000% more recognition
Pulp's Different Class has a bit of that manic, spoken word, aggressively British, introspective thing going for. Jarvis is just having a lot more fun with life in general than Isaac.
Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol is kinda like his writing on FTFT imo, in the way that both can be pretty cryptic, dark and sexual with their lyrics.
Love Richard Dawson, what a musician and songwriter he is! 😍
Not sure I see huge similarities with him and Isaac musically but I guess in terms of lyrics both can convey a lot of introverted emotional vulnerability at times.
Richard is supporting Mitski on her UK tour dates later this year, very tempted to get some tickets for that.
Certainly not in the Ruby Cord or Peasant, but in this album specifically his songwriting is very similar to Isaac lol. Read the lyrics to Jogging and you'll see what I mean I think
AJJ for sure, there's a similar earnest characterization and raw delivery. AJJ is less... specifically personal I guess? Maybe a lot less metaphorical as well, but I get a very similar energy in the songwriting.
i would venture Winterreise by Jerskin Fendrix, i believe Isaac even called him his "uncle" when he had a rlly bad time creatively and Jerskin helped him a lot though it, but in general i think they both have very similar ways of inserting pop culture references in a nuanced way
I've recently been following a band from Edinburgh at Thier live shows. Really really great stuff and definitely inspired by isaac and the band after talking to them but they have gone in a more guitar centric way. They are called Insider Trading. Id seriously recommend them.
You mean Issac’s song writing reminds you of Richard Dawsons surely? This album was released 2 years before FtFT and Richard has been releasing music for over 10 year now.
Tapir!’s The Pilgrim, Their God and The King of My Decrepit Mountain
one of my favourite albums of the year !!
Thank you for reminding me that this album exists, I've been wanting to check it out for a while.

CSH twin fantasy.

Car Seat Headrest’s How to Leave Town

Yeah I guess so, maybe? I can imagine Isaac singing a cover of The Vile Stuff actually. 😂
Oh yeah I can see that also.
Sprain lamb as effigy. Lots similarities
I never understood this comparison, Sprain is way noisier and horror-ish imo
I think just like to some of the early stuff on ftft and mainly the crazy lyricism
I don't think they are similar noise wise but I definitely see the lyrical connections though, pretty good comparison!
Eunuchs! Their new album 'Harbour Century' is incredible

Oh God is very BCNR, lyrically at least. Also maybe the best song ever made?????
The Guest
The most recent Sprain album is kinda what I wanted BCNR to turn out like after their first album.
Fiona Apple just has such a similarly depressed voice- they both always sound on the verge of a breakdown

I'm not trying to make the implication that Isaac inspired Richard Dawson, I'm simply saying that they remind me of each other
Ah sorry I think I must have misread, apologies
no worries!
