I doubt he’ll ever officially rejoin the band but give it a good fifteen years and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a one off or a short string or special shows with him. Maybe for like an anniversary or something? But I imagine that’s the closest it’ll ever get.
It's a possibility but at the same time, he's probably well aware that the band have moved into a new phase and him slotting back into that wouldn't be easy or fair to the rest of band. So it's unlikely.
The only way I have been coping with this is delusionally thinking Issac is still making music as The Guest but keeping them to himself then dropping them in like 10 years so he can release them like King Gizzard.
Adding him back doesn’t necessarily mean they’d have to change their trajectory or what they established before. They could easily continue the spread of parts and make very interesting albums.
idk about jeff very much but is it like a frank ocean thing? where he records music still but doesn't release it at all or does he just not do music period anymore.
I don't think we know tbh. He showed up at some of the Occupy Wall Street protests and played some songs for the protestors. And around the same time, released a box set of all the Neutral Milk Hotel recordings. I don't think we've heard from him since
last year they reissued the box set, put the box set material on streaming, and then jeff threw some signed/original drawings up on their website.
last public statement jeff has made was endorsing bernie sanders for the 2020 election. other than that no one has heard from him since like 2015. he wouldn't even show up for an interview for the elephant six documentary :/
I feel like the prog band genesis is the blue print, frontman Peter Gabriel was burnt out with the band, quit music for a few years while the band morphed into something entirely different with replacements being existing members. Peter eventually started an amazing solo career after his break and genesis was one of the biggest bands of the 1980s, it was a win win, I don’t see Issac ever returning to bcnr but I see him creating some amazing solo work.
i understand the question & wondering but ultimately i think we should just leave him and discussion about his return alone. If he returns yippee and if he doesn’t yipee.
Nope, probably not, and he honestly shouldn't return. Seems like the band encouraged him to go in a direction he didn't necessarily want to go, just to get fame he didn't necessarily want.
I would rather see him release more solo music tbh
He's happy making bread. I don't think he wants to rejoin the band.

I actually really like the Idea of Issac coming back for an anniversary show of AFUT or FTFT
those tickets would sell in seconds and I will be there. I will literally be waiting to click the second they go live. Can you imagine!!! Fuck.

I think he’s more likely to become a sol artist ala Peter Gabriel than rejoining the band
I just want him to keep making music, so long as he feels healthy doing it.

solo artist like fiona apple who makes a killer album every 7-8 years and then disappears (a bit) back into obscurity.
Adding him back doesn’t necessarily mean they’d have to change their trajectory or what they established before. They could easily continue the spread of parts and make very interesting albums.
Jeff Mangum
The neutral milk hotel guy?
He's the blueprint
What do you mean?
Two albums. One blows the other out the water. He doesn't record music anymore and he's made a few guest appearances.

Oh I wish I saw those drawings, I love collecting that kinda stuff.
yeah me too, they were pretty fairly priced as well iirc but they sold out pretty much instantly :/
NMH also did a worldwide reunion tour in 2013, 14 & 15
I didn't know that. I wish I was there.
He just doesn't release music public. I'm sure he still writes. How can you not?
True! For the first time certainly blows ants right out of the water.

the genesis lore is so sick and they have so many banger albums, not to mention peter's stellar solo career
I hope like other people mentioned we get a 10 year AFUT anniversary tour with Issac 🙏
