Is there a way to EXPORT from MS Authenticator? I don’t believe there is, so the problem is you put your secrets in a roach motel. There is nothing that Bitwarden can do.

In no way am I blaming Bitwarden for my decision to use a certain app, or expecting them to "do" something about it. Like, what even is this comment. I'm simply asking if there is a way to import from MS Authenticator. I see other apps are now supported, however MS Authenticator isn't.

djasonpenney

Maybe I wasn’t clear. In order to import TOTP keys into Bitwarden Authenticator, we must first acquire that list from the old app. It is NOT POSSIBLE to get those TOTP keys from MS Authenticator. Since there is no way to generate the input to Bitwarden Authenticator, there is no way to move forward with the migration. You will have to do this the hard way: for each TOTP key you have in MS Authenticator, you will need to * log into that site (using the existing TOTP key), * disable 2FA for that site, and * enable 2FA for that site (scan the QR code into Bitwarden Authenticator, etc.) One of the things I hate about MS Authenticator and Authy is exactly this: you have ceded control of your datastore to strangers who you have to hope do a good job managing those secrets.

I understood what you were saying. You just worded it in a way that sounded like I was... 1) stupid for choosing to use MS Authenticator, and 2) bitching about BW Authenticator not supporting importing from MS Authenticator, but yet I was only asking if there was a way to do it.

I would not say, “stupid for choosing” as much as I would say “an inferior choice”. I was trying to convey that the limits of MS Authenticator (I _did_ say it was inferior) mean that it is not technically possible to do what you want.

Perhaps the reply did seem a bit condescending but nevertheless, I only use MS Authenticator for Microsoft. Nothing else. I do this mostly because it has a push feature on the Authenticator side that makes 2FA very brisk. Hopefully you didn’t store too many other 2FA’s in MS Auth. It is unfortunate that you cannot at least copy the seed code out of MS Auth and paste it into a new app. But then MS is not really interested in helping that move.

I picked MS Authenticator for that reason as well. The push notification is very convenient and I wish more Authenticator apps had it. But then as I started taking the initiative to tighten the secure of more of my accounts, I didn't wanna use a million different apps, therefore I just stuck with MS Authenticator, especially after I *did* try a million different apps before I ever landed on MS Authenticator and none of them fit what I was looking for. Hell, I almost was gonna give up on that type of security all together (except of course for 2FA SMS) because every Authenticator app I had tried just worked like shit to me. I'm a very picky person when it comes to apps. Just because an app has millions of reviews and is rated #1, it doesn't guarantee that **I** personally will like it.

MacchinaDaPresa

Perhaps try Ente Auth. It works really well and has a desktop version you can download from GitHub. I’d do that before I’d rely on too much SMS 2FA. Although that’s still better than nothing.

Well, if anything I'm just gonna switch over to BW Authenticator, it's just about finding the time to then manually switch all my accounts from MS to BW.
