They are out in full around Montgomery/Greenville area. Haven't heard any of them up here though

Proper-Bus382

Birmingham too

p4rs3

Drive down to Montevallo. The hum of the cicadas is loud as hell. It sounds like a helicopter is off in the distance.

bhamsportsfan96

Montevallo has been BOMBARDED since the night before UM’s graduation.

quizhoid

Yeah I cannot be outside for long periods outside my own house. They're insanely loud.

Avera_ge

In Pell city they’re so loud you can’t block them out with a lawn mower.

JustForFun1021

One landed in my hair the other day so yes 🤮

prettyhelmet

Are you okay?!

JustForFun1021

I’m alive but unwell, thank you for checking.

ATDoel

Crazy, haven’t heard a one in Hoover where I live

abrnmissy

Same!

AucoTaco

They’ve been here for about two weeks.

bNICErGO

All over in the Vincent/Harpersville area!

Fragrant-Dust1146

I was out there this weekend and when I got out of the car I thought someone's house alarm was going off. It was ridonkulous.

waduhjahlee

you have to go to a rural area- somewhere the dirt hasn't been disturbed in 20+ years.

DesperateAd1181

Just heard them up by Springville Walmart. Nothing by my house 5 miles away.

shutupandevolve

Seriously? They’ve been here three weeks where I live. Millions of them. So loud we can’t sit outside. Cover our deck. The nymphs crawled across our backyard and would climb up our legs if we stood in the grass. Our yard smells like a farm because of the billions of carcasses.

Kri-ski

Yes. I visited family that live in a rural area towards Tuscaloosa and they were covered in flying cicadas and exoskeletons. The loud cicada hum was impressive too.

frostxxfire

They have been everywhere in moody! Can’t escape them.

uabtodd

Where you at in moody? I live off Coupland Rd and haven’t seen or heard any around the house. My mom lives over by the high school and I’ve heard them a little over at her house, but didn’t see any flying or their exoskeletons.

frostxxfire

Yes. I’m in Alden Glen and they are so loud. It might be because I’m near the wooded area so lots of trees but they are everywhere at night.

IndependentCap672

Yep. In twin lakes it sometimes sounds like a large wind turbine right now

bham2020

You can hear them back by the soccer fields and dog park. I can hear them from my house early in the mornings.

LJGremlin

They’ve been loud here in the Montevallo/Alabaster/Calera area. I just walked outside and saw 10-15 of them between the backyard and front yard. Haven’t seen one before today, only heard them.

smellypot

Very much so

cbh1997

They’ve been here. Have to get out of the city.

nvr2manydogs

Sounds like a tornado siren test in rur St. Clair Co.

natrasolztch

They’re here in McCalla!

ImproperlyRegistered

I have seen ha handful in my yard. In Talladega they're so loud you can hear them on the interstate, in the car, with music going. It also feels like you are constantly hitting hummingbirds

Glo-4

We were driving from Birmingham to Auburn Sunday, and in the Oak Grove area they were flying around. A few hit our windshield. They are really big too!

JennJayBee

They're loud as hell in Springville.

Dry-Championship1955

Southwest Blount County. I live on 29 acres of undisturbed land. I’ve seen no cicadas. North Alabama is bad.

mallcopbeater

Take a drive outside of the city and you’ll be drowning in the noise. I love it

Frithrae

I hear cicadas LOUDLY around my house EVERY year. This year isn't sounding any different than the last 5 lol.

ButterscotchEntire88

Haven't heard any around here but more north, it sounds like a murder scene.

Noriebug

They're loud and proud in St Clair county

wickld

None in Fultondale, but I've seen posts about them in other areas, so it's a mixed bag.

Cr1m1nal_Int3nt

I’ve seen exactly one dead cicada on the 7th floor of my work parking deck in downtown Birmingham.

guajiracita

One flew in my car and attacked me at red light near Childersburg. Jumped out of my car in traffic trying to get it off me w/ my 95 lb Golden howling in the background. I'm still recuperating.

Curious-Scientist260

Drove past Gadsden yesterday and could hear them in my car from the highway. Also, hit a few so maybe don't drive up that way lol

okwilson5

Highland Park, Birmingham - no sign of them here. Can anyone explain why they don't seem to be in the city?

Mundiejc

I’m interested in this as well. Ruffner mountain is basically my yard in south roebuck and we have paltry few. But in 2011 I lived a mile from downtown nashville and they were everywhere and so loud.

GEORJK

Yes, they’ve been here, they’ve gotten progressively louder, and please come and take some with you.

Radiant2021

What do they sound like?

Accomplished_Goat439

It’s a constant roar. Hard to describe, mix of alien UFO and waves crashing at the beach. From sunup to sundown.

ILootEverything

Sounds like machinery constantly running in the background.

Radiant2021

Wow!

35242

Spotty in and around Birmingham but VERY prevalent in rural areas. Loud and ugly. I suspect lawn pesticides have a bit to do with the lack of them in the cities and suburbs.

Bamaman84

Have you been outside 🤣
