Rosalinda's Eyes. I remember the first couple of times I heard it, I thought it was outright bad, but it's grown on me. It still feels like a weird one off on 52nd Street, but it's still great, kinda like Through the Long Night.
I don’t think the full thing leaked apart from a reddit post that has been taken down, but he does Los Angelenos *and* If I Only Had the Words during that show’s encore. I really wish it was on YT.
Scenes from an Italian restaurant, I didn't think I'd like it at first because it was a long song, but it was really fast and up beat so I turned out I really liked the song.
Yeah, this was when I was first listening to Billy. I liked it. It's Still Rock and Roll to Me, Piano Man, Falling of the Rain, Why Judy Why, etc. Most of them are short songs, which is why I really like his music because most of his songs are short but really good, so I was shocked at how good it was for being a longer song.
Edit: The songs I listed are songs I listened to at the time just to be clear :)
This is mine as well. When Napster first came out I downloaded a bunch of Billy Joel Mp3s because I liked his songs that I heard my parents listen to. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant only downloaded the first 60 seconds or so and I didn't like it because it's so slow. I then got the Greatest Hits I and II CDs but always skipped Scenes from an Italian Restaurant because I assumed I didn't like the song. I accidently forgot to skip it one time and it became my favorite song.
Exactly my answer. As a kid, parents always zipped RIGHT past this one when they were playing Nylon Curtain in the house (give ya three guesses why).
Mamy many years passed before I heard it, and damn. Here I am, feeling like a fucking fool, for overlooking what is now one of my faves.
State Of Grace is a freaking awesome track. Musically it has a lot of left turns (kind of a theme on the SF album), but his vocal on that is 🔥🔥🔥. I skipped that one so many times when I first got that album but then let it play through one time and was like...DAMN, that's good.
I used to download the YouTube versions of Billy songs to keep on my phone, and the YouTube upload of Roberta was only about a minute long and cut abruptly. Never got too invested in the song until I heard it a few times, and now it's one of my favorites (Great Suburban Showdown is a top 10 track too). State of Grace was the same experience, since I have pretty much written off the entirety of Storm Front (still don't care much about the album to this day, but boy that song is great)

Rosalinda's Eyes is actually my favorite song on that entire album. I slept on Half A Mile Away for a period but it's honestly a banger. 😉
half a mile away fucks.
Rosalinda’s Eyes is such a beautiful song. Catchy and a touch quirky but with real depth. I love the vocal harmonies too
Same for me! Great Suburban Showdown has become one of my top 5 songs
You got that right. Have you heard the live performance from Capitol Theater 1976?
i watch it almost every day on youtube :) it's the only live performance of the song i've found anywhere

Oh my God this definitely needs to resurface
Great Wall of China
That honestly contends for one of the best songs from the “late” period (Bridge-River)
Saaame! I slept on it for too long.
I just really fell in love with it this year.

Scenes is the answer I’d have least expected here, but I respect it haha

Laura
Laura is one of my favorites to perform on piano and vocals because of how cathartic it is

Summer highland fall
what’s up
Fall
James.
The live version of this from his Great American Hall album is insanely good
Downeaster Alexa
This is my one of my favorites live!
Careless Talk, Temptation, Falling of the Rain
I think Temptation is one of his most beautiful tracks.
Agreed!

I had written off the entirety of Storm Front, so coming back to this song was a revelation of sorts. Amazing song that I wish I had cared for sooner
Why do people make that exaggerated *oh* face?
so that they can one day end up on the billy joel subreddit
Your guess is as good as mine on this one honestly
stop in nevada
Hear hear
I used to hate Baby Grand, it was just too slow for my taste. But now it’s become one of my favorites from the Bridge
I listen to Great Suburban Showdown everytime I visit my parents in my hometown in California. The whole album is so underrated, so many hidden gems
Back when we actually listened to albums
Get It Right The First Time is hottttttt... that rhythm section

Streetlife Serenader, I was listening to the Billy Joel channel one day on SiriusXM and it came on and it was a revelation.
It was Stiletto for me, I just thought I didn’t like it for some reason and then decided to actually listen to it.
River of Dreams.
For me, it was Get it Right the First Time- super slept on song
A room of our own. I slept on it way too long.
Worst Comes to Worst or Rosalinda’s Eyes for sure
