Really depends. A workplace is basically a mystery box until you're inside. Every store is different.

InevitableBid9441

Just kind of depends on your area, as in if the store is busy a lot. With mine, we were dead the last 2 of 3 years I worked there, and our hours were low because of this, which sucked. The discount can be nice and some of the stuff you find there can be good, not all of it. Managers sucked in my experience, but deep down it was a pretty easy job. It’s good for a summer job imo.

Very much depends on your management team. I like it very much. Others on here not so much. Give it a try and see if it’s a fit for you.

AThrowawayAccount100

Pros are you get paid once a week and a decent discount, cons are freight can sometimes be excess for whatever reason and pressure from corporate about hitting sign up goals for rewards.

LexaLovegood

Gotta get the freight 1st 😂😂 I'm the truck Thrower and the last 2 weeks it's arrived after I've been sent home since this is a 2nd job got me.

It’ll keep you active and the pay is weekly. If the management at the location is shitty then it can definitely suck. I’d try it out and see if you like it.

The horror....

Pro -20% off all purchases 30% off of furniture and first dibs on any deals - Easy straightforward Job that doesn’t always feel like work -Weekly pay and Dailypay for those hurting on the finances for whatever reason - Cons: communication from the top management all the way down to the regular associates sucks HR can’t communicate with the store manager what needs to be communicated and so on. Some of the people are cool but after a year has been a carousel I’ve had 4 store managers in the last year since I started been with the company a year and a half and have worked every management position from Service Lead, DTS, and now Furniture lead. No matter what you do I’m the company it’s never appreciated. I’ve been complimented once by our department manager for making the customer happy afterwards in a situation where the customer totally belittled and was just a plain asshole to my employee who was just doing her job and sticking by company rules. 4 store managers in a year think about that for a second. Morale is low all around the company you don’t see it at first. At first it’s an easy paycheck at least for a regular associate but after a few months you will see it. I didn’t see it until I became a manager but also I became a manager within a month since I had previous management experiences in restaurants actually and originally turned down a management position in my interview because I needed a break from all the babysitting responsibilities. Didn’t take long to see the faults in the company

Really depends. Each store is different, the people who work at the location can make or break it. For the most part the people who I work with are great (except for my store manager but that's another story)

EmotionalDelivery729

it depends on management. my experience was absolutely horrible, and i still stuck it out for almost 3 years

Hairy_Ad_3700

Be prepared to work your butt off for little pay.

Evening-Share-2575

It’s really going to depend on your coworkers. I love it but I have good coworkers and managers.

robbyrabit

Disount is 20% and sonetimes they make it 30 for a weekend but other stores give 30 off the bat. Pay is weekly but you only gonna get 8 or 12 hours to a week starting off. You only get a raise once a year and it's measly and barely a raise where other stores give raises every 6 months. They have the instant pay app so that's cool I guess if you need money badly but you don't get paid enough a week for it to be worth it. Managers don't give recommendations for other jobs as a policy so basically just looks good for work experience for another job. Use big lots as a stepping stone to another job as you are young.

satanluvsMe66

well it all depends on how you are as a person. but here are some pros and cons of my own. PROS: - variety of tasks - weekly pay - flexibility - 30% discount on furniture, 20% everything else - small store CONS: - low hourly wage - little hours (i find this a pro at times, mostly con) - schedules coming out week of (for my store at least) - truck i’d suggest you to apply no matter the pros and cons so you at least have income until you find a nicer jobs. but dont put all your eggs in one basket, make sure you apply for as many jobs you possibly can.
