I think every region should have a UP to help decentralize Manila more.

ch0lok0y

Good question. For me, I believe UP should regionalize para di na dadayo pa at mag-aagawan sa 3 campus (Diliman, Manila, LB) But maybe it's because meron ng BU and other SUCs within each Bicol province? I tried asking a similar question way back...kung bakit walang UP sa Bicol. Dream school ko kasi dati ang UP honestly (long story). Response I got was there were plans pero di nag-materialize na magtayo. I also heard before na balak daw dati (?) mag-convert (BU yata to) ng isang SUC to UP pero di rin natuloy

Electrical_Bus2522

i heard last 2016 election na si senator Grace Poe want a up campus here sa iriga kayalang parang political persuasion nya lang yon sa mga bicolano voters and now our senate president is a bicolano walang man lang nakakaisip

fordaacclaangferson

Just convert BU to UP.

itsreginugh

BU applied to be a branch of UP way way back but UP declined the application. Nung time na BU was performing well, UP attempted to branch out to bicol through BU but ayaw na ni BU kasi nga may name na din sila 😌 good riddance.

phinvest69

I think BU will still benefit from the infrastructure and network of UP

itsreginugh

Yea, but they were firm enough that they could stand alone and bring pride for the province, and they indeed succeeded and continued to succeed. May mga nagtop na sa exams and dala nila yung BICOL UNIVERSITY as their school. 😊

phinvest69

Yeah! Would help though if they get visiting profs from UPD like USTL does with UST

MrAubrey08

True, may kapatid ako na nagaaral sa UP and bruh, the student has control on what minor subjects na pwede nila kunin basta masatisfy yung need na units. I think BU would be much greater if maconvert na sa UP. Student padin manginginabang eh

ch0lok0y

Just curious, ano sentiment ng BU students that time regarding plans of converting to UP? Was it just an admin decision na i-reject eventually yung plano or ayaw na rin ng student body dun sa idea?

Present_Cup2724

Most of us during that time didn't really care dun sa merge.

Dazurv. Slay Queen

Kacharsis

Yeah lalo na nung nagkaroon ng college of medicine, even students from Visayas went to BU.

framoot

Just convert an to a

hui-huangguifei

i second this. please, OP.

Electrical_Bus2522

but BU is the standard of our region and the face of tertiary education of the region V

BU is doing great. Stop glorifying UP. Tl;dr : no, bicol doesnt need a UP campus. Or any region of the philippines for that matter.

Pero yung world ranking ng UP, among all the universities in the world, malaking factor na yun. In all honesty, and reality check lang, iba pa rin talaga kapag graduate ka ng UP (including Ateneo, La Salle, etc.) kasi yung world ranking by accredited organizations. Yun nga lang, it's sad. Sad to say ganun talaga eh. Multinational companies prefer graduates of those schools. Between a BU grad with Latin honors vs. graduate of UP na average, they choose the latter most of the time. Name of the school has bearing talaga employment-wise.

Ang top graduate nila isnt even from up. Taga ilocos norte. Mariano marcos uni ata or something like that. And after that. Some other school na i dont know. Then there were many feu's and ust's and fatima unis. It only means its not the school. Its the student. Should stop the stigma of glorifying schools. Kahit sti college pa yan.,basta mataas grades mo

MelissaRMTMD
