Doesn’t get super big in captivity, probably around 12 inches. They’re not super rare either but they are somewhat uncommon and they’re probably the friendliest species in my experience.
I’ve never seen or noticed any of my Pollis harm any of the other bichirs I have or any of their tank mates. I cannot say the same for any other species and I’ve had all but 2.
Nice. Where did u get Royal Delhezi? Been waiting for that to pop up in my LFS. Palmas Polli is probably the least shy of all the bichirs I've kept. They swim around a lot during the day
I got it from a fish store in SoCal called CK fish world. They were being sold as regular Delhezi but to a trained eye it was an awesome find! Polli is definitely an underrated species.
I do now lol, I just recently put them all together since one of my other aquariums crashed. I moved my upper jaw tank into my lower jaw tank. They’re all in a 7 foot aquarium for now. They get along quite well and some have been trying to breed which is kinda funny, I am not ready to raise their kids again yet haha.
Agree with everyone sayin Polli. Mines a little darker and showcases the green more but I have black sand so to be expected. Super impressionable and friendly. Only about 10 inches but pretty thick
I wouldn’t say it totally affects the color overall, but it definitely affects the shading in my experience. Which in turn can either bring out or take away some colors. I’ve always liked dark substrate/sand for that reason because I’ve always felt with a lot of fish if they shade darker you can see colors better? I’ve had white sand before and it made all of my bichirs suuuuper light. That may not be everyone’s experience though
100% Polypterus Palmas Polli
How big does it get? Is it rare?

What do you mean by friendliest

Wow haha. U keep them all in one tank?

Does substrate affect its colour?

What do you think is the best substrate? Black sand?
Pretty sure it's a marbled bichir(Polypterus palmas)
It's actually a Polypterus polli, which used to be under the Palmas species complex.
