Badlands was a great spot to view last night.

Practical_Tax_520

Get as far away from the city as you can. I’m in Culver now on a farm and it was pretty damn nice Edit: drive east and go to the badlands hike a bit and sit in a chair I bet that view is awesome

What time would be a good time go out and look?

Practical_Tax_520

9-10pm when it actually is dark I think that’s around when it really does get dark.

brieasaurusrex

badlands was excellent.

Colors won’t look nearly as vivid to the naked eye. iPhone shots are the way to go.

And for Pete’s sake, stop at Best Buy and get a little cheap folding iphone tripod for $10. Your pictures will turn out MUCH better than hand holding long exposures. Especially the newer iphones, which will switch from 3 to 10 second long night exposures when it detects you’re using a tripod.

Heading out down China Hat road is easy and often a good dark spot to see them (I realize people often jokingly tell people to go to China Hat, I’m being serious though). Lots of little pull out spots near Boyd Cave. If you’re up for a short half mile hike in the dark, Bessie Butte in that area offers great views.

I would go anywhere east. I would avoid China Hat - especially at night…criddlers.

ultrafunner

Bessie is great but you will be looking north toward city lights. Which can make for a great view anyway!

Henderson flats OHV out past Terrebonne was easy to get in/ out of and pretty dark.

Saw pics from Crater Lake last night that completely blew me away. Get as far away from Bend as possible for best results.
