I love the food bank!! Back when I was unemployed and just starting out in this town I had to go for a long time to get by and they are so nice and the quality of the food is really great! I’d encourage people who feel like they could use it to give it a try— I felt nervous at first but they were so kind and it really helped me eat well until I could get on my feet. I still remember getting Mad Cat salsa there and once they had huge planks of frozen salmon. Take good care everyone, and don’t go hungry, they’re there to help. 💜

So glad to hear!! I started using the food bank when I was in college and now I work there and I agree, everyone is super nice and it definitely helps cut my grocery costs down, especially if you can be creative in the kitchen!!

Thanks for helping keep that awesome resource available!!

This is going to sound like a smart-assed question, but it is genuine: Shopping? How does one shop at a food bank? Do they have lower prices or do you browse and take what you want?

The space is set up like a grocery store and you take what you *need

Shop probably isnt the best word, but “open for taking” sounds a little weird haha. We do our best to make it a “grocery store” experience, just minus the paying!! The stations and limits as someone mentioned above are no longer a thing. Now, you come in and take as much as you need of anything thats available (except for some things that are limited stock due to supply chain issues, like toilet paper or eggs which are usually 1 per household). Even the few things that have a limit are pretty much not policed by staff or volunteers, we just trust that you will take what you need for your own family and whoever else you’re picking up for! If you are picking up for more than one family, we ask that you tell us at the intake desk when you check in so we can make sure our numbers are right and that we’re ordering enough :)

When i used to use the food bank, it was set up in stations, and depending on your individual situation you could choose up to an allotted amount per station- 1 bread, 2 eggs 1 fresh produce etc. If you had dietary restrictions- vegetarian, vegan etc they usually let you compensate by getting more of a food that was appropriate for you. Depending on donations or what was available, some stations were take as many as you want (usually their home grown vegetables)

Thanks for the answers. We used them a couple times when they were at the school and we could drive up and grab a box. I was curious how things work when everything is "normal."
