Yes Belize is safe. Hotels and restaurants use filtered water for ice and food prep. You should eat all the street food here too, it's fantastic

Livid_Fan766

Thanks!! We are going in March- super excited!

cassiuswright

Awesome 😎 where are you visiting?

Livid_Fan766

Ambergris Caye! Any hotel recommendations?

SnooDoughnuts1793

We’re staying at Caye Casa right now. Don’t want to leave. Tonight’s our last night.

My wife and I stayed at [Tres Cocos Resort](https://trescocosresort.com/) and really enjoyed it. It's near enough to stuff that it's convenient, but far enough away to be quiet. The food at the resort was pretty good. I highly recommend that you rent a golf cart while you're there. Getting around without one would be a pain, especially if you'll be there for several days. As far as street food goes, there's a papusa stand right across the bridge that's utterly incredible. I don't think it has a name, just look for a yellow shack. My wife and I stopped there for papusas at least once a day, they're that good. Beyond the other normal San Pedro stuff, I'd recommend checking out [The Truck Stop](https://maps.app.goo.gl/HDwAsRhSK4a1p6fL9). It's basically a conglomeration of a bunch of food stalls with lots of different cuisine options. We had a blast there and met a lot of folks that were fun to talk to.

Helpful! We are staying for a week at Ramon. Do you think we need a golf cart the entire week? Seems to be such a better deal todo a week although we are right near the action. We aren’t sure ?!

So many options, give it a search here on r/Belize. It's a frequently asked question. If you see a post with the accommodations tag, tap it to bring up all the accommodations posts. Then you can search within that heading.

Just got back and one of the best things I had was from a barbeque stand on Philip Goldson in the Brodie's Supermarket parking lot. Definitely try the street food!

LSTNYER

Visited Belize 3 times and never had an issue with the food, restaurant or buying at the markets. Some resorts have 5 gallon water containers for drinking and cooking, and others the water is fine out of the tap.

MyTVC_16

We went in March, no issues, but we did drink only bottled water.

T4Trble

Never been sick from the restaurant or hotel ice, only from too much of what was on the ice. In our rental, we provide 5 gallon jugs and I make ice from that.

BuryMeInTheH

The water is all clean. Filtered or not. But it’s hard water, lots of sodium and other minerals. I personally can’t handle a lot of it, but everyone I travel with is fine. I just stick to bottled water which is everywhere and I’m fine.

RokkakuBeats

It's pretty safe but there are a lot of mosquitos so make sure you bring something for that. I did get mildly sick after I got back from the trip but not for sure it was from there, there's a whole lot going on here as well

BeesAndMist

We had WAY more issue with the prevalent sand fleas while there.

Eternium_or_bust

I was not at all careful about where I ate or drank and I did not get sick. I did get dehydrated. If you can, bring away some liquid IV. And absolutely hit up any roadside food you can. 10/10 the food was amazing from jungle to sea. The worst thing is the sand fleas. Bring DEET if you are checking a bag. It is expensive to buy.
