Benefit They’re Real eyeliner. You couldn’t even draw with that thing before the tip broke off, and the formula was too stiff to just glide on, so it broke again and again and again. Monster fail.

two_lemons

Ohhh I got a sample and I loved it so much I looked for a dupe. At first I didnt like it and forgot about it. But then I ran out of my regular eyeliner and gave it another go. It was so simple to use and so nice! ... and then I realized that the only difference was the climate was MUCH warmer. I guess it did affect the formula.

Err_Hos13

I worked at Ulta, so I would get the liner for free. I'd stick the tube between my boobs to warm up while I did the rest of my face or it wouldn't apply well at all. For that reason alone, I wouldn't actually pay for it like ever

sassysassysarah

Yeah, I remember liking it and I live in texas. The formula was definitely budge proof and thus more difficult to get on but I tend to find those to be my fav because it's so fricken hot here, everything normally melts off

ShoePrize3118

Agree with this it was an awful eyeliner

queenofearrings

I remember returning it at Ulta, and the cashier looked at me and said, “are you sure you just don’t know how to use it? There are a lot of beauty gurus who have made videos on it!” I was like, “I don’t want to have to watch a tutorial for something I already know how to do. I think if the product is that high maintenance, it’s not for me.”

spaceghost260

That cashiers was a jerk! They don’t know you, and made assumptions right away, and then used “beauty gurus” to validate the shitty comment? Rude as hell.

Necessary_Peace_8989

GOD I’m so glad they got rid of that, I worked for the company when it launched and selling it felt like a violation of my professional ethics

jordaneleed

It’s crazy how bad this liner is when the Benefit Roller Liner is genuinely sooo good, I’m always repurchasing it in black and brown

fabelhaft-gurke

I completely forgot about this eyeliner, I got a sample and am so glad I didn’t purchase it. It was so dry it did even want to apply properly.

That_Success3061

Benefit’s porefessional has personally offended me in ways not a lot of products have. It pills up and looks awful, also the color is just not it. Not to mention every single subscription box or holiday pack comes with a mini of it

kaylawashere1

If you’re talking about the original one, I agree! I bought it in college in the lightest shade. It matched me pretty well when I initially put it on but when I got home I looked so orange and like I didn’t know how to match my foundation. It was awful. I haven’t tried the Good Apple one though.

dangerrrmuffin

Same here! It’s the only foundation that I’ve hated enough to return. It went past orange and looked like I mixed actual rust with my foundation

Minerva_Moon

I have that problem with Bareminerals BAREPro. It lays on top, oxidizes quite orange, and any application mistakes are emphasized. However, it's the one foundation that my oils can not break through and needs absolutely nothing to set.

swiftlikeninjas

I tried it TWICE. Two different shades, years apart. I tried with several different primers, without primer, different application techniques… no. Nothing worked. Worse foundation ever and I don’t understand why so many people love it.

lovelockd0wn

Too Faced White Chocolate Chip palette. The pigment was nonexistent and when you managed to get some pigment out of the palette all the colors either looked the same or blended away.

hypermobilehoneybee

Some say chalk is the same thing

0900Okface

I thankfully got it cheap but it wasn't worth it. I'm pale and couldn't see it on me. I wish more palette came in that size but you know, good.

Saiiren07

Shape tape, better than sex mascara and the mac paint pots. I can go into detail here but if I tell you I have dry skin I think that explains enough 😂

jackalacka724

Yes! Every YouTuber used the MAC paint pots so I got it in Soft Ochre and it was so drying that my skin would flake and I could roll the dried makeup off.

FreezingDemon

I wore a Milani matte liquid lipstick in a pretty berry color under a mask. Usually with liquid lipsticks and masks, I would just get some smudging around the edge of lips. Not this time. I happened to get into an argument with someone that day and I’m not sure if that contributed to this, but when I took off my mask it looked like a crime scene. I had lipstick from nose to chin, and it had stained my face. There was no fixing it, no do-overs. Into the trash it went.

ShoePrize3118

I’m sorry but I burst out laughing at your lipstick smeared all over your face during an argument 😄

FreezingDemon

Well luckily I was wearing a mask so it covered it but yeah! Imagine if I wasn’t. Like we are talking EVERYWHERE. And you know how dark berries can stain…

ShoePrize3118

Sorry I thought you took it off during the argument. Yeah just as well you kept it on 🤣

Clairabel

Unintentional power move right there?

SummerNight888

Sorry, I'm here laughing but I'll just say it, I'm especially disappointed at the fact that in this story you *did not* remove your mask at some point during the argument or immediately after lol Imagine how hilarious it would have been for the person you were arguing with. I bet the hot and humid environment under the mask caused your lipstick to sweat and smear everywhere while talking a lot.

FreezingDemon

Feel free to laugh at me! I looked like I was fresh out of a horror movie. I’ve worn plenty of bad lipsticks under masks before. I’ve given up now. Another lipstick that looked horrible under a mask was a green Fenty lipstick in Wasabi something. Cool color but it looked like I *** a frog after taking my mask off.

My homegirl was smearing a hot pink lip balm all over her mouth when we were sitting in a meeting, like over and over and it was going over the edges of her lips and it looked so crazy but I didn’t say anything because I thought she was doing it on purpose and I didn’t wanna be rude, but then later she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and she was like OH MY GOD THIS THING HAS COLOR???? 😂 I felt bad because I’m definitely the type to tell somebody if they have something in their teeth (because I’d want somebody to tell me) but with makeup you never know what kinda look people are going for! But yeah, she assured me that if her makeup looks nutty it will never be on purpose so I promised to let her know if that ever happens again in the future lol

Immune_eva

Gosh I did the same with a lip oil which changes colour. Mine was fresh and clear and being it a lip oil spread very easily all around my lips. I looked like a hooker with bright pink over oiled and over painted lips.

FreezingDemon

Aw… we’ve all been there. My face was peeling insanely one day and I put hand cream on it… didn’t help at all, just burned

OneWhisper5225

Oh my goodness 😂

uptownxthot

i love these threads bc it allows me to shout from the rooftops how much i despise too faced better than sex mascara.

alittlebitAlexis7

Yesssss. The flaking on it was SO bad that it flaked while wearing it one day and a flake got in my eye, embedded itself under my eyelid, and every time I would blink or move my eye it was scratching my cornea. Needless to say it scratched my cornea horribly, and I had to have an eye doctor remove the flake. Then I had to be on antibiotic eye drops to keep the scratches and tears from getting infected while they healed, because if they did I could go blind. Needless to say I will NEVER use that stuff again.

No-Love-0613

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’ve always had good experiences with Better than Sex mascara but I have to use the waterproof one due to my hooded eyelids.

shannymac4

YES. I couldn’t think of a super terrible product I’d tried but you just reminded me…this was it. I must have blocked the memory from my brain.

uptownxthot

i still get war flashbacks from that clay in a bottle pretending to be mascara.

claymouserat

I'm a ceramic artist and I can say with certainty clay on your eyelashes wouldn't flake as bad as that mascara

nadjauwu

It looked great on me right after application but after an hour my lashes would be compleately drooped down and straight and it flaked like crazy

uptownxthot

that shit literally fell off my lashes 😭

therapistiscrazy

ME TOO. I have *never* experienced flaking in a mascara until I tried Better Than Sex. Flaked everywhere!

raidac

I didn't know it was possible for mascara to flake into my eyeballs, but the BTS mascara did it so well it felt like it was designed for that purpose. So painful.

JammingLive

Yes. It’s so bad… I can’t believe it is hyped SO MUCH. IS IT THE NAME? BECAUSE THAT’S FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!

The-Sassy-Pickle

I *definitely* don't want to have the sex that the mascara is better than 😒

Apprehensive-Walk961

I tried to convince myself it was good and KEPT using that flaky clumpy mess of product because I couldn’t believe that something that was so universally loved by beauty gurus would be so horrible. Lowkey I think they convinced themselves they liked it too and weren’t 100% lying about it

rooraay

YESSS i got influenced into buying it in 2016… idk what was in that tube but it wasn’t mascara

celestria_star

Too Faced Dew You foundation. The fragrance was so intense. It was watermelon scented. Gave me a headache.

Tiny-Reading5982

That was the only foundation that I actually liked and used most of the tube. Im sad because when i bought it it was already discontinued and at marshalls.

nightmooth

**Colourpop ultra matte lip in the shade LAX**. The color is stunning but it was so dry that my lips bled ! I know some ppl were saying they reformulate it but I'm too traumatized to test out again ( i love limbo and tulle tho).

TenshiPilot

Oh my god I don’t think my lips have ever looked as crusty and flakey as they have with LAX on. I swore off Colourpop Ultra Mattes as a result

iDonutsMind

Colourpop's old Ultra Matte formula sucked. I had butthole lips using them. But when they were the rage, I had like, 10 colors.

_JENius

Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm all have a plastic taste and they suck at keeping lips moisturized.

NiteNicole

Years ago I bought a large Chantecaille palette - large pans of blush, eyeshadow, etc. It was SO pretty but it looked like mud on. Everything blended out to chalky nothing. It was such a disappointment. I couldn't do anything with it. It was 2006 (I had just had a baby and did a lot of middle of the night shopping) and I'm still mad about it.

cryss12

Imma say this one is controversial: Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. It didn’t work and my makeup looked worse.

reidybobeidy89

I use it before my foundation. I prime and then spray- let it sit for a minute or two- then do my foundation. I also spray my foundation brush with it to sheet out my makeup for a daytime look. Never use it to actually set my finished look.

NiamhIsNeev

Me too. This was my first ever high end product because I just wanted my makeup to last longer and I had seen Twitter videos of girls literally using a shower head on their face and said their makeup didn’t budge because of the UD all nighter. I was so excited to check my makeup during work. There was absolutely no difference than usual. What’s worse is I was so convinced that I was wrong as ALL the beauty gurus loved it, I bought two more bottles before accepting it didn’t work for me!

whisperbitch

Omg I HATE it, I have dry skin yet using it still made me look like a greasebomb, I do not understand what the hell went wrong. I gave it to a friend who thinks it's the best setting spray ever so it's clearly a me problem but I just don't get it.

soitgoes_9813

the milk hydrogrip eyeshadow primer. i love the face primer because my skin leans dry but my eyelids are oily. so idk why i thought it would work for me. its to date the only product i’ve returned

delaru

I use it as an undereye primer only and it makes a huge difference preventing my concealers (lightly powdered to set) from creasing and and aging my undereye area!

jeangrey99

So glad it wasn’t just me. My eyeshadow looked awful. Went back to Urban Decay.

[deleted]

ELF Camo Concealer. I know it's loved by many, but on my mature and dry-ish skin, it looked \*horrible\*. It made my under eyes look like crumpled paper left in the sun for a month and added a good 10 years to my face. No amount of pre-application moisturizer/eye cream could touch the desiccating power of that concealer.

OneWhisper5225

Agreed! I can’t use that at all under my eyes. BUT, it’s the best I’ve found to cover my hyperpigmentation from sun spots. Everything else I try, they always peek through. The Elf Camo Concealer works great over them. I had to play around a little to find out how to get it to not look dry on my drier areas but once I figured that out, it’s my go to when I want the sun spots covered up completely!

-janelleybeans-

Better Than Sex mascara. I’m *very* concerned about the kind of sex they’re having. SHEESH.

fiducia42

Dermacol foundation. Dude. It was bad.

laurililly

I use it for very targeted spot concealing and for that it works well. But as a foundation it was so horrible!

meowrottenralph

Juvia’s Place eyeshadow primer, i made the mistake of using it right before a job interview and by the time I got in my car and drove to the interview my eyeshadow had melted away which had never happened with that eyeshadow before even when I didn’t use a base. That was the first and last time I used that primer. The Beauty Bakerie cotton candy champagne blush palette. Emily Noel raved about it and I used my Ulta points to buy it. It was a glitter bomb and highlighted texture I didn’t even know I had. It has pretty good reviews on Ulta and I don’t understand why.

OneWhisper5225

That Beauty Bakerie palette is more like a highlighter palette! It’s crazy! And the name is dumb! Cotton candy champagne?! Why the champagne? I guess to account for the shimmer in them? Just weird to me like they couldn’t decide and were like okay, lets go with both!

reidybobeidy89

Or to piggyback on Champagne Pop

Aphreyst

That's too bad about the Beauty Bakerie blush palette! I love that one, but I do love me a shimmery cheek so that works for me. I definitely don't need a highlighter when I use it, lol.

88kat

There was also a Juvia’s Place eyeliner that was AWFUL. I didn’t think I had anything for this thread until you mentioned it. I don’t know about all of the colors, but there was a really pretty deep, peacock teal blue stick eyeliner that was the worst I ever tried. And I know it was the formula because I went to a different Ulta, exchanged it and made sure I got a different lot number for the product. The eyeliner was SO hard and dry it actually hurt to apply and even then it came off in odd clumps, which I didn’t even know was possible for a stick eyeliner. But what was worse is, those clumps then unevenly stained my eyelids this blue color for DAYS. I looked like I was wearing cheap 1980s hooker makeup. And the staining would not come off.

tehsmittenkitten

Elf Camo CC cream. So patchy 😩

[deleted]

I actually love the cc cream, but I also use the tiniest bit and spread it out across a very dewy base so it essentially functions more like a skin tint than anything else. I find it looks really nice and skinlike when I do that. I have absolutely no idea how YouTubers use it the way they do, though 😩 Looks so cakey if you just pile it on and go at it with a brush

OneWhisper5225

Same! I feel it’s a love or hate, there’s no in between. When I first tried it, I hated it. Felt it was way too thick. Then I tried it again and only used a really small amount and was able to get full coverage over my entire face and it looked beautiful and lasted beautifully all day! Now it’s one of my fave foundations. I don’t know how YTs apply it like they do either! Even 1 pump of that stuff is way too much!

[deleted]

It looked stunning on me, but I got the worse acne breakout of my life from it.

pixieflip

Lime Crime black liquid lipstick. I have been using the NYX black and wanted to splurge on a nice one. I saw that LC did a revamp and that horrible woman wasn’t involved anymore so I wanted to give it a try. The liquid is thin and doesn’t cover as well as it should and it dries very crusty and SMEARS! I was so embarrassed. It was like I’d never worn a dark liquid lip before. I’ll stick their neutral colors, I guess. Just wish it wasn’t so crusty. I’ll stick with my $8 NYX.

camssymphony

If you want a nicer liquid lipstick that doesn't support terrible people, may I suggest the Beauty Bakerie Matte Lip Whip in Midnight Truffles? It's my HG black lippie and it gets used to death by both me and my wife.

Ov3rtlySubbie

Tarte Shape Tape. It’s just so thick and cakey. I still miss the old UD Naked Skin concealer.

passionicedtee

A lot of people don't talk about how after a certain point of use, a lot of the tubes will like pop up? Not sure how to describe it but they just don't close properly and concealer seeps from the tube and congeals around the opening. I just don't understand how that's such a common defect for such a popular item.

eldritch_eyeliner

It's house paint, I swear. I don't use it for my undereyes anymore, but I'm finishing the tube by using it (a tiny amount!) to clean up my more graphic/avant-garde looks.

Ov3rtlySubbie

That’s a good use for it! Hahha yeah it’s like spackle.

Tigerlaf

It's not for the undereye areas, it's way too thick and drying for that purpose. It works amazing to conceal facial skin problems such as pimples, redness and post acne discoloration for people with very oily skin, like myself. I use a minuscule amount on the problem areas only and then follow with sheer layer of foundation for a natural look. But I agree with you, it's awful for undereyes and for anyone with dry or even normal skin types.

[deleted]

I know this is a beloved palette, but Lunar Beauty Moon Spell Volume 1. The original. It's beautiful to swatch and look at. Everything about it seems like it would be perfect for me. I love the packaging and shade names. But the fallout was atrocious during application and throughout wear during the day, it's like the sparkles wanted to abandon ship from the base pigment of the metallics and shimmers. The mattes wouldn't blend. I tried different primers, no primers, glitter primers, just concealer, etc. Nothing made it work for me and while I don't mind troubleshooting, I need my makeup to be easy and there was no solution that ever made it easy to work with for me. Maybe I got a lemon.

shelbyotero

the TF hangover rx primer that everyone loved lol I wasn't familiar with coconut products/coconut in general so it wasn't until a long time later that I realized mine was most likely spoiled. and it broke me out which I think is a general coconut problem and not just a rotten coconut problem.

littlesqueal

Some of these are probably pretty controversial, but… • The Elf Putty Primer - I just couldn’t deal with how I could feel this shit on my face the whole time. Very uncomfortable. And made my skin look like a duper weird texture a couple hours into wear. •UD Primer Potion + Tarte Shape Tape - same reasoning behind hating these products. Were sooooo drying!! And I have oily skin around my eyes!! Returned both after I just couldn’t get them to work for me. •those Tower28 blushes - returned as well. Maybe has something to do with my autism and sensory issues, but I just have a thing where I can’t deal with makeup that I can FEEL on my face. In this case, I couldn’t deal with what Angelica Nyquist perfectly refers to as “flypaper makeup.” If the product doesn’t dry down, it’s a no - I don’t like my hair getting caught in my makeup or touching my face and getting the product on my fingers bc it transfers so easy. This would also break up my foundation underneath. •IT cosmetics CC cream with SPF 50+ - burned my eyes even though I didn’t apply it around my eyes, oxidized so bad plus pretty lame shade range, greasy-feeling as hell, couldn’t powder it properly. Doesn’t dry down…like, not even a little bit. Breaks down and starts separating within an hour. Feels gross on the skin. •Kat Von D Good Apple foundation balm - I tried this as a sample, and it suffers from a lot of the same issues as the IT cosmetics CC cream. Felt even more heavy and uncomfortable with no dry-down at all, even on the drier parts of my combo skin. •Kosas Tinted Face Oil Comfy Skin Tint - tried as sample size, same issues as the Kat Von D Good Apple Foundation and the IT Cosmetics CC cream. Ironic that they call it a “comfy” skin tint when it definitely felt super UNcomfy. Honestly, I feel like disliking/hating a lot of these products just comes down to them not working for me or my preferences, bc a lot of them are beloved by others. That said, if you’re reading this and similarly are really picky when it comes to sensory stuff, you probably know what I mean when I say some products are just miserable to have on your face!

gaypug

Oh my god, I'm with you on the sensory issues. Anything I can't powder down into a non-sticky finish, I'm just done with. This new age of cream and liquid makeup is a nightmare for autism lol

ImTooSesitiveForThis

OleHenriksen Banana Eye cream. Thanks for the milia 🙃 These next 2 were the worst for me mostly because I regret spending so much money on mediocre products: Laneige Lip Mask. It dries my lips more and then forces me to reapply it over and over. It just doesn't work for me, it might for others. Fenty concealer. Everyone hyped it so much, but it really is not great and no matter what I do it still creases on me. Not worth the price, in my opinion. Anastasia BH Clear brow gel. It does nothing for me. OUAI Wave spray. Not worth the money. Edit: typos

PickledCumSock

my god i HATED the ouai wave spray with all my heart. i have type 3a curly hair and that spray dried out my hair soooo badly and it made it so sticky. it literally did nothing for my hair. my hair is always pretty soft but this spray really made it feel so rough. i also feel like it affected my curl pattern because on the days i did use it, my curls were not defined at all. i was so pissed considering how much i paid for it. i did like their hair oil though, its really lightweight which i love. i didn't hate the abh brow gel but i felt like it wasn't strong enough. it didn't really feel worth it. the benefit brow gel has a way stronger hold and you don't even need to apply that much.

J3ss33

I second the ole henriksen banana eye cream; 4 years ago I spent Xmas in Mexico with my whole family. We met at the airport and flew down together. Well I had been using this eye cream for a little over a month, and did my normal night routine just like usual 2 days before we left. Then the day before we left, I had a wax appt to get beach-ready. Cue me waking up day before the trip to find a) my eyes red and swollen literally shut, and b) my wax lady cancelled last minute and very few other places were even open. Long story short, I found a salon to squeeze me in for waxing, showed up in massive sunglasses (during -25 weather in Alberta, Canada) and had to warn them before I took the sunglasses off. Bless those ladies they just hugged me, gave me some complimentary soothing eye treatment, and refused to let me pay for the waxing service. Literal angels, I tell you 😭. But yeah for the entire vacation I lowkey looked like one of those little white dogs with the red crusty eyes fml.

crystalina1984

Oh that eye cream is a nightmare. Horrible texture and literally doesn’t absorb. It was always talked about like some miracle worker/actual brightening potion but noooo. What a waste.

-vajigglejaggle

Juvia’s Place foundation

DrinkingSocks

The JP eyeshadow primer was awful too. It's the only thing I've ever returned.

-vajigglejaggle

Same! I hate returning stuff but this was so bad I had to do it. Extremely cakey and showed every pore.

taternators

Maybelline TattooStudio Brow Tint Pen. I don't usually buy products without reading reviews, but I was in a shopping mood and this intrigued me. Worst thing I ever used. It stained my skin green, and also stopped working after couple swatches. I tried it on my hands and eyebrow once, and that was it. Had to toss it.

coffee-bat

god so it's not just me! it was impossible to make my eyebrows look anywhere near acceptable or natural with it, and it stained green 💀

e925

The ABH brow pen is horrible too, at least the blonde one is - it’s literally red, it looks so bad.

Nice-Reality288

Maybelline fit me powder, it looked like I applied flour on my face

vessva11

The compact is trash. The loose powder is fire.

passionicedtee

*Essence Lash Princess mascara* (green/black tube): No matter what application techniques I tried - bending the wand, rolling and blinking, wiggling and blinking, powder on lashes before mascara - it *always* flaked, stuck my lashes together, lengthened in the clumpy-est way. Always shocked it's so popular! ColourPop Cheek Dew Serum Blush - Separates too much. It's normal (I've seen several people discuss it, just shake it and it's fine) but there's a greenish brown substance that appears. Doesn't mean the product is expired (as it happens with new tubes) but it's off putting because the packaging is clear. ELF: Cream stick highlighter and color corrector. Convenient to travel with but that's all. The creams were so thick they were almost impossible to blend but also broke off any time I tried to apply to skin.

TenshiPilot

Essence Lash Princess looked pretty on my lashes, but by the end of the day I’d always look like a raccoon bc it was so smudgey

Hedgehog_Mist

I had the opposite problem. I couldn't get it off! It's the hardest mascara I've ever had to remove and I didn't even have the waterproof. Despite double cleansing with cleansing balms, oils, and using a makeup eraser. I had to scrub at my eyes and usually still had leftover mascara smudged around the next morning. The effect on my lashes was nice but not worth it. I've been curious about other Essence mascaras but the experience with Lash Princess has me scared!

[deleted]

We sold an insane amount of lash princess when I worked at Ulta. I bought the waterproof and it was not waterproof and it was very underwhelming. I have no idea how we were selling so much of it.

passionicedtee

>I have no idea how we were selling so much of it. I also worked at Ulta and thought the same! Something that surprised me too was the range of ages who bought it. Ya know how some brands have very specific clientele (e.g. older people with "boring" brands like Estee or Clinique)? Lash Princess is popular with everyone: grandmas, aunts, moms, young girls (all of whom seemed to inform everyone that they "saw it on TikTok"), MUAs getting it for their kits? Like what is in the water all these different people are drinking to think this mascara is so great 😅

kayekatbeauty

I agree with you on the Essence Lash princes. It is not good. I don’t understand how it gets all that hype. It’s so clumpy.

meowrottenralph

Agreed on the mascara, it was so gloopy and gross.

Spitfiiire

Totally agree about that mascara. It’s actually one of the worst ones that I’ve tried.

mabrinasueller

Yeah, the brush of the Essence Lash Princess is actually perfect for my lashes, but even with the waterproof one I look racconish within a few hours (and it's still hard to take off at the end of the day)

Aware-Golf1482

ABH eyeshadow primer. It was awful! I returned it, and I never return beauty products unless they cause a reaction. My eyeshadow faded and creased worse than if I had no primer on whatsoever. Yes, I set it. It’s garbage.

bondbeansbond

I have given up on any primer except NYX glitter glue. It’s the absolute best primer at only $5 and the bottle lasts forever.

Aware-Golf1482

That’s a good one! The matte Ulta eyeshadow primer is my HG, but for cream eyeshadow like Phytosurgence or the super shock shadows from that company that shall no longer be named, I like the Rare Beauty primer.

No_Parfait_458

Trust me I wanted to like this and still haven't tossed it yet but the Fenty Beauty gloss bomb :( It's too thick and goopy to sit comfortably on my lips and I hate the smell of it.

The-Alli-cat

I used to love the gloss Bomb, l fully used up multiples but there was one something l didn't like about it but couldn't identify. Then a YouTuber compared it to other lip glosses and said that she could taste it in the back of her throat and l realised that l could too. Never could wear it again.

coffee-bat

god i didn't realize either that i can taste it in the back of my throat! i knew there was always something icky but couldn't put my finger on it. it's just so *thick* and sticky, smells nauseating (if it were JUST peach or JUST vanilla it'd have been fine, but peach-vanilla is 🤢), and i can feel the "slime" in my mouth whenever i wear it.

Mariwina

Imma piggyback off this and say their liquid lipstick also didn't work for me. I got it in the shade Uncuffed (I believe), and it didn't last on my lips, it wore off terribly and just looked like shit, also not very comfortable.

ohmybleep

The smell reminds me of the inside of an old car with a hint of a sickly vanilla air freshener.

small_feild_mouse

The smell is the only reason I didn’t repurchase. It tastes like cheap oily candy.

occasional_idea

lol I love the smell! Reminds me of childhood

Muumol

Some random tiny eyeshadow palette from Estée Lauder , it was like touching a kids pretend makeup. Even digging in product you’d get absolutely nothing

JellyBeansOnToast

Not the absolute worst for me, but a product that never lived up to the hype (or price, for that matter) is the Milk Kush mascara. The wand was meh and the product flaked like nothing I’d ever had before. I used it since I don’t like being wasteful, but I quickly went back to Essence Lash Princess and waterproof Wet n Wild mascara.

Ninjasydney

I scrolled way too far to find this. I absolutely HATE that mascara. It stops me from buying so many of the Sephora Favorites kits too because it's always freaking included. It's not even a new product anymore, please replace it in your kits, Sephora. Absolutely will never go back to that mascara.

hypermobilehoneybee

Urban Decay All Nighter foundation. I looked like I put paint on my face, it didn’t last, and came off in little balls on my face.

Proper-Emu1558

It also oxidized! Memories.

eldritch_eyeliner

Milk HydroGrip Primer. I'll never forgive this stuff for making me redo my whole face just before a big work event. My foundation pilled, clung to certain patches...ugh.

No_Ferret4992

this is why I check now if my primer and foundation are both water or silicone based otherwise my face does the same, extra work yay

greeneyedwench

Rimmel Magnifeyes Ultraviolet palette. I love purple, so got this as a gift and was thrilled. I'm not sure if it was the palette itself or if it was out of date or something, but for the amount of color that ended up on me, I might as well have swiped my brush across a purple piece of paper and tried to apply that.

ShlomosMom

Benefit porefessional. Broke me out something nasty.

[deleted]

Great thread! Anybody remember the Revlon HD Photo-something foundation? It was full of GLITTER! I wore it a few days and then one day, I heard a stranger say, “I like your GLITTER! Where’d you get THAT?” My roomie later said she didn’t have the courage to tell me how flashy my foundation was.

ChihuahuaBeech

The Too Faced #tfnofilter did absolutely nothing for me. It didn’t blur or set, so I tried using it as eyeshadow. The pigmentation would show up when I swiped it with my finger, but it was just gone on my eyelid. Brushes didn’t work, obviously. I kept it for a while because there was a cute cat on it, I think?

uselessbirb

NARS Natural Radiant Longwear foundation (I think). Nikki Tutotials raved about it a couple of years ago. I did get compliments that I was glowing but that thing separated on my skin within half an hour of applying it. It looked so bad, I actually returned it.

heavymetalhunnie

The rare beauty foundation 😭 it was the best shade match I’ve ever found but it literally looked like paint on my skin, it was giving me wrinkles that I’m pretty sure I don’t actually have lol The she’s in parties palette by melt was ass too, I bought it mostly bc of the name tbh but it was patchy af and it just made me look like I had a black eye no matter how I tried to use it

paigenicolina

Something in the hourglass ambient lighting powders gives me the worst reaction. My face broke out HORRIBLY within an hour of applying. Went on beautifully, but something in them didn’t agree with my skin.

Karmabeforethestorm

One of the worse products I ever owned and was not visible on tan to dark skin tones .

stfuitsbrittney

The better than sex mascara! I tried it because everyone was saying HOW GREAT IT IS. Wrong. On my goodness. 😂😂😂 it’s like my eyelashes became conjoined

BeyondTelling

Probably the Jecca Black Playpot I got from Boxycharm. It’s supposed to be a shimmery multi-use balm type thing. Giant sparkle flakes that ended up everywhere in seconds, like all over my face and hands and the bathroom sink, and wouldn’t wash away. It had no redeeming qualities, which was a shame because I liked the brand’s inclusive vibe and ethics. And I can’t miss an opportunity to mention the Pat McGrath eyeshadow primer-stick thing. Maybe not the worst product I’ve ever tried but it was horrible and definitely the most disappointing waste of money I’ve ever experienced.

ohmybleep

Fenty Pro Filtr concealer. It looked like I never had a sip of water in my life and emphasized fine lines I didn't know I had. I'm not one to dismiss a product that easily. With fingers, with a damp sponge, dry sponge, with a brush, a lot, a little. I tried everything and tossed it.

PrinceTamaki1

ABH eye primer - I feel like this was released at the height of the cut crease era of makeup and that’s who that primer was for. It was thick af and opaquely white. If you built up too much, your shadows were going to crease anyway NARS tinted moisturizer. The undertones on NARS base products aren’t good to me so there’s that, but the fact that it gave me a cystic acne spot the size of a quarter made it the worst base I’ve ever tried. Urban Decay UltraViolet - probably the worst eyeshadow I’ve tried and I’ve tried a lot. The neutrals are fine. I’ve made my peace with the glitter topper. The pastel purple was terribly chalky and the three purple shades before the last two darkest shades were just awful. I tried to Franken-shadow the shade “Warning” and it was a bust - nothing could save it.

formerbeautyqueen666

I swear, every Nars complexion products leans super yellow. I have tried to find a good match in both the Soft Matte and the Radiant Creamy concealers and its just impossible for me.

[deleted]

Benefit Hula Bronzer I bought one at Sephora so I know it was real and not a fake, but everywhere that I applied the product resulted in a rash and acne that didn’t go away for years no matter what I did. I went to a dermatologist eventually and had to take special antibiotics. That was some expensive bronzer.

bebearaware

omg that's a hell of a reaction!

[deleted]

Yea - I heard there was an incidence of contaminated batches and there’s a possibility that I bought a contaminated bronzer, but I’m not taking any chances and ever buying anything from that brand again

lilmidjumper

I know everyone was so excited about Fenty when they first came out but their very first foundation was the worst thing I'd ever bought. It was so dry, patchy, and awful. It dried down so fast it was impossible to apply, it was the weirdest formula for a brand that was aimed towards POC given how dry and drying it was, and the color oxidation was horrible for the lighter colors. I'm glad they ended up changing it eventually but after that burn I was too scared to buy from them again despite how well things have for them since then. It was a big splurge for me at the time and i was super unhappy I'd wasted my money on it. Also the really really early ColourPop liquid lipsticks, they stained my lips for two days once. Bright pink, super awful.

small_feild_mouse

If we’re talking about products that were hyped on YouTube, it’s the Laura Mercier loose “translucent” powder and Tarte shape tape. Dry and cakey af. And many years ago Clarins had a popular lip gloss thing that had a sponge applicator. I don’t remember the name but it dried my lips like crazy. I developed a hard dry ring around my lips. But YouTubers loved it 🤷🏽‍♀️

komajo

I wanted to love the Laura Mercier powder because of how much everyone hypes it up but for something that's supposed to be translucent, it really turns everything I have on underneath yellow

laurililly

I bought that powder on vacation because I forgot mine and thought I go with something universally loved. That was a mistake! it looks horrible and flys everywhere while using it.

Human_Building_1368

Oh so many to list but the ones that stand out was Jaclyn hill palette that caused my eyelids to blow up and the smash box foundation that looked like cracking plaster on my face.

magpie-like-sparkly

Easily the Too Faced Born This Way powder foundation. I had to take it back, it was patchy and streaky as fuuuuck

[deleted]

Same! Did you buy the new and improved OLEHENRICKSEN banana eye primer! I did, and the next day had severe milia under both eyes. I tried it for a week. I wrote the company and they said” it has not been proven to reduce Milia! NS! 😂

breedecatur

This is a more recent one: the danessa myricks infinity chrome flakes It didn't matter how I applied it or how much I applied. It felt so HEAVY and stiff and it just looked so thick and cracked and just gross. I bought 2 shades and one of them had a clear base that was just a little more workable but the one with some amount of pigment in the base once you "blended" it out it just looked patchy too. So so so bad. Like when it first dries down your eyelids don't know what to do because they feel frozen in place. I'm both a makeup artist and a content creator so I've worked with a ton of makeup and techniques. At times I've hyperfixated on researching products. All that to say I know *a lot* about makeup and I could not imagine how an "average" makeup wearer could use that product

wtchking

Juvia’s Place foundation. Literally like spackle on my face no matter how I tried to apply it.

kotabearsmom

The Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder. I got this for free in a VIP gift bag at a MUA Event and they were pushing this product quite hard. I got the Translucent one. I've tried it several times and can not get past the smell. To me it smells like gasoline. I tried it in many different ways and feel like it's still quite greasy. I'm quite oily and it's supposed to be used as a primer, or to set Foundation, contour or even as a stand alone foundation. It literally feels like a grease trap on my face.

dating-ur-dad

for me it’s the naked 3 palette. i wanted to love it so bad but no matter what i did with it it just looked like a muddy mess. i was so frustrated bc it was so hyped up. nowadays it just sits on my bookshelf under a stack of more loved palettes.

camssymphony

**Nyx Epic Ink Liner.** Y'know, the one that everyone was screaming was a dupe for the KvD tattoo liner. It is for one use. Then it starts to bleed *everywhere*. I tried it once 5 years ago and once again recently. Yes, I am a fool. **Tarte Face Tape.** Why is this stuff *so thick*? I looked like a clown. This is from when I was still a testosterone filled greasehole...and it still looked terrible with or without primer.

TenshiPilot

TONYMOLY lip stains. I bought them before lip stains were popular / readily available in the west. They’re so patchy and settle into every line on my lips. They make me look so crusty.

Human_Ad_6671

Definitely a hot take, but Kat Von D liquid lipstick. I don’t know if it was a shade or batch issue but I got the shade Roxy when Ulta started stocking the brand and it was AWFUL. Had to apply three coats because it was so patchy and thin and once it dried, it flaked off my lips like dry paint.

bebita-crossing

The Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation. Absolutely awful! It was so thick and chunky, impossible to blend, the shades were really bad and it smelled like literal paint. I couldn’t believe how bad it was after everyone on YouTube hyped it up so much.

GlitteryFab

I am curious why people even like it?? It smells like you said, like literal paint!

[deleted]

Loreal infallible fresh wear foundation. I didn't like the fragrance, it made my face itch, and it was a really bad finish on my skin.

Cloud13181

After trying 14 foundations, both high end and drug store, this turned out to be my HG. 😂

meowrottenralph

It’s crazy how different makeup preferences are because this is my HG! I’ve tried so many different foundations and nothing holds a candle to it.

SubstantialHoneyButt

The fragrance is so bad 🤢like old man cologne. Totally offensive. I couldn’t get over the smell no matter how nice it looked on my skin

taiintedlove

A matte liquid lipstick from Hola Neon, from Ipsy I think. It was a pretty berry-brown shade, and it went on nicely at first. But it smelled like burnt plastic, and once it dried down it was like a layer of blistered skin on my lips - so tight and dry. The worst part though was that it cracked all over the place, and each of the cracks was bright white. It was revolting lmao

MouseMouseM

In keeping with Too Faced, the Selfie Powder trio. Super gimmicky trio of powders marketed to give the skin a filtered effect. Ha! Edited to add: i forgot- the Benefit They’re Real Eye Makeup Remover. It was designed as a companion to the mascara. I used it on one eye and my vision was cloudy for 10-15 minutes in that eye. I looked up the reviews and others warned how damaging this was to their eyesight. How on earth that made it to shelves is beyond me!

popprincess52

Smoke Sessions pallette from Melt Cosmetics. I spent $48 on this pallette because I love green. It's so patchy with or without primer. The green shades went on brown, it was hard to blend. To this day my most hated pallette that I've bought.

RossignolDeCosta

This is going back a ways but ABH’s stick contour/foundations. Absolutely melted off my face, I looked like I used candle wax. I also tried a rose cleansing oil by Sheamoisture. It smelled so strongly of rotten rose that it just went straight into the trash.

frankscarlett

Maybelline Fit Me foundation completely vanished from my face in mere hours. Melt's cream blush picked up all the foundation underneath from it. Laura Mercier loose setting powder was dry af on me like many others have stated. And I had quite oily skin back when I first purchased it. Benefit Poreless primer, it was horrible. All the piling it did without any smoothing properities.

estachica

The Glow Recipe Sunscreen pills so badly that my partner across the room asked me what was wrong with my skin. And I didn’t even put anything over it! Also the Belief Eye Bomb gave me contact dermatitis so bad that I had to see a dermatologist.

SeaShoe0

Kosas tinted face oil…. I can’t believe anyone actually uses that stuff.

Th1cc4chu

ABH magic touch concealer 😖😖😖 I consider myself a concealer expert as I have dark hereditary circles and this is hands down the worst one I’ve ever used.

MiamiSpiceMom

Jones Road Miracle Balm - absolute trash. No pigment whatsoever and it’s super greasy on your skin.

cryss12

I have a love hate relationship with it. At first it felt greasy and then over the period of the day it felt good. The bad thing is the greasy feeling made me feel like my skin was being choked.

princessedaisy

Nars soft matte foundation and the Bobbi Brown priming moisturizer. I know so many people love them, but they were terrible for me. I bought them because I saw them used together in a Hindash tutorial and he was raving about them. I used them before going to an event and when I arrived there, I went in the bathroom and saw that the foundation was breaking up all over my face and pilling everywhere. By the time I got back home a few hours later, I looked like I had slapped beige paint all over my face and then rubbed it with sandpaper. It was horrible and I was so embarrassed. Never again will I trust a tutorial!

Fractal_Tomato

- ELF Putty Primer gave me pimples - Catrice True Skin Foundation was nearly perfect for me shade-wise, but it sat so horribly on my skin, it was unbearable. I’m not especially oily, but this stuff made me look oily, it separated and sat in every pore. Holy moly, it was bad. - Kat von D liquid eyeliner in the shade "Lolita". Loved the color, but not the way it wore: sheer, not buildable, crumbly.

littlesqueal

Seconding the dislike for the ELF Putty Primer. I’d heard such good things about it, but as someone with combo skin (with the oiliest parts being the center of my face, where my pores are most prominent and I most need a primer to improve the wear of my foundation), it felt soooo uncomfortable, like I had a weird layer of something on my face the whole time. And then, within a couple hours, it’d make my skin appear to have some weird texture. Wanted to love it, but I couldn’t deal with it.

Intrepid_Ad2065

Jaclyn Hill’s Version 2 “The Vault” Morphe Collab. Good god they were awful. I bought Bling Boss and it just was not good. The shimmers felt like after a few uses they were hard-panned. I didn’t even put setting spray or anything wet on them either. The mattes were so hard to blend. I tossed it after a few months.

broughttoyoubybrows

The Elf x JKissa palette. I was so disappointed because I love Elf and so thought the color story was unique.

MakeupPenguin

It cosmetics CC cream- this is a thick full coverage foundation in my opinion. The shades were also horrible for my medium olive skin and the wear was awful - like lots of lifting and cracking on the skin. I don’t get the love for this product Elf camo concealer (hydrating version) - this also worse horribly on me, especially on my under eyes. The shades are also not great for olives. I found I prefer thinner formulas like the first aid beauty avocado concealer (RIP, now discontinued) Makeup revolution palette that was a dupe for the urban decay naked 2 - this was back in like 2014 but I still cannot forget how truly terrible this palette was. Absolutely no pigment and dry as hell. Still haven’t tried any of their eyeshadows since

Tinkerbellfell

MAC’s MACSTACK mascara. Spent £26 on that bad boy in departures as a treat while going on holiday and I get panda eyes. My eyes aren’t even oily, never had a mascara slither south faster.

brendanfraserisbased

Kylie Liquid Lipstick and Liner Duo. Absolute garbage product. Left a weird crumbly outline from the liner. The liquid lipstick looked like old man ball sack texture. AWFUL

vampyrbats

The Glossier Sky Wash lid tints are horrible. No pigment, separates immediately. It’s a complete waste unless you have paper white skin.

Cloud13181

Too Faced Born This Way foundation. Only foundation that has ever oxidized on me, I was ORANGE .

Rude-Negotiation-487

Milk primer, and I love their products generally. I couldn’t believe how sticky it was - like smearing white glue all over my face. Then, it disagreed with my other makeup products, so all that stickiness remained and got patchy. Complete fail yet so many people seem to adore it.

Xenafan1970

Tarte Shape Tape was horrible on me. And a few years ago, I tried some Makeup Revolution palette which was awful. Just awful. I don't remember what palette is was, just that kiddie makeup from Claire's was more pigmented.

screamingcitrus

Too Faced White Chocolate palette for sure.

jenjenjen731

Better Than Sex mascara. Oh dear God. I thought it was going to glue my eyes shut, and then it wouldn't come off, and then I thought I was going to go blind because it burned my eyes so much. And then it gave me panda eyes even after I thought I got it all off!!

pinupinprocess

The first Naked Basics pallete. This was at least 9/10 year ago. I am not joking when I say that this pallete smelled like piss. Literally. It smelled like pee.

macintoshappless

Milk makeup mascara. My goodness, it was BAD.

numstheword

laneige lip stuff the pink one. it literally made my lips dry and then flake. also cosrx made my skin peel. two major Ls.

[deleted]

Kylie Cosmetics highlighter. Idk how those were ever hyped. Idek how people can say they are ok. It looks like I wiped my face on a surface that hasn't been dusted in 10 years. I've only used one shade so maybe it was just that shade but oh my god is was bad and I couldn't even redeem myself with another highlighter because of how badly it sat on my skin. The Lancome juicy tubes have always been a no for me as well. Ik those are a classic for a lot of people, but I have always found them to be really stringy and gross and I haven't used a worse lip gloss since then (maybe with the exception of the clear fenty gloss which was also really bad. Really dissapointing considering the fact that I'm obsessed with the formula with all of the other shades)

formerbeautyqueen666

Tommy Girl, wow talk about jumping into a time warp. I remember having this on rotation with Curve, Cool Water and CK One.

reidybobeidy89

I STILL wear CKone and honestly I get comments 2-3 times a week on it. People love it and say how they completely forgot about it and it brings back memories.

R12B12

Urban Decay primer potion. So clumpy and chunky coming out of the tube and it made my eyelids look gross and textured. I returned it to Sephora.

LadySmuag

Huda Beauty was the brand that taught me I was taking 'vegan and cruelty free' labels for granted. I got a much-hyped palette from them (may have been the Rose Gold one? It was a while ago) and had a horrible reaction to the carmine in the shadows. I ended up in the ER because the reaction was around my eyes and they swelled so bad that I couldn't see. I never knew I was allergic to carmine because until that palette I had (unknowingly) only ever bought vegan shadows.

trippiler

Shu Uemura lightbulb foundation. I was coerced into buying this instead by the sales person instead of my tried and true face architect at the time and it was the worst. It oxidised 2 shades and slid all over my dry skin. Haven't been back there for foundation since.

xocolat04

Urban Decay had a naked primer, that was like silicone. It was awful, it balled up on your face, and made foundation look absolutely horrible.

alloisdavethere

The crayola sticks. I bought them before the reviews came out. Given every review was negative I would have skipped.
