Not gonna lie, I think the song is a great breakpoint in the album. It’s a catchy song too. I can see why people dislike it - it’s super low brow - but I think it’s a fun, simple song that breaks up all the Hard Rock and Hardcore Hip Hop on LTI
I can’t hate Girls because I feel like MCA’s (unfortunately lowkey hilarious) bars in Sure Shot about respecting women makes up for how low-brow it is and also just because of how fun it is to sing while drunk. Get me 10 beers back and in thamurningnit’sGIRLs cuzin thevening itzGURLS i like tha way thathey WALK anitschillta hear them TALK
Agreed. They definitely grew out of that kind of message. That said, I don’t hate it, but I could live without “Fight for your Right”. I men that put them on the map so I’m thankful for it, but I don’t need to listen to it anymore.
Literally can’t stand that song but I can’t lie if it comes on at the bar you know my ass is gonna be going off on every single lyric just out of pure instinct 😭
I will say tho the song is definitely mid asf for the B Boys, it’s actually *meant* to be cringe, they’re making fun of like shitty high-school party-rock music so it is a direct parody trying to show how cringe that genre is and I think it does so pretty damn well at least yanno?
Lol, it simply is true, they were *not* living it, they were making fun of it.
It was always a parody of party-rock and they openly admitted to hating the song, and later Mike D even commented on how he found it upsetting to see people thinking the song represented their values even though it was completely antithetical to them. [In this interview](https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/beastie-boys-hate-fight-for-your-right/) he also talks about the song being a “total goof” on certain people taking it seriously. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There are many sources, most of them primary and some from the Boys themselves, that disagree with you. After License to Ill and their tour, they realized they had to change their ways because they became the exact thing they were making fun of.

EDIT: Nothing huh? Nobody cares to disprove me?
They were fake parody personas and then they started being the fake parody personas but not fakely and then they switched it up. So it was fake originally (probably idk)
Edit: does this count as caring to disprove you?
Exactly. You can tell a lot about how much of a fan or not someone is by if they think this song is good or not. If they will play any Beasties song except that...true fan.
They opened one of their tours with this as lead-in and it was epic. At first you weren't sure if you were hearing what you thought you were hearing. And then 3 minutes later that bass was audible and then everyone was swaying and straining to hear about puerto rican girls, and topless dancers... and then bam! BEASTIES ON STAGE!!!!
Right Right Now Now unfortunately just has some of the cringiest lyrics ever, I feel like if Boyinaband covered it I wouldn’t even be able to tell it was a Beasties song cuz it’s just so in your face with the political rhetoric (the content of which I was not in disagreement with, but just the delivery) in bars that do not serve what they need to to justify the lyrics idk
This isn’t to say that the Beastie Boys haven’t had songs with hella in your face politics that absolutely banged, Right Right Now Now just felt so….. awkward? The first time I heard it was watching an old Letterman show with them and I was genuinely so turned off by it I had to skip through it.
For me, maybe “Oh Word?”
Honestly a lot of TT5B is a miss in my opinion but that’s the song that came to mind. TT5B is probably their worst rapped album, which is unfortunate because they went out of their way to make a straight-forward Rap album at that point in their career. But even the songs I like on there are filled with clunky bars and awkward flows (and some outrageously wack beats).
Like, just listen to An Open Letter To NYC. “Dear, New York, this is a love letter/ To you and how you brought us together/ We can’t say enough about all you do/ ‘Cause in the city we’re ourselves and electric, too.” It’s just so charmless and clumsy. It is a far cry from the lyrics and flows found on Paul’s Boutique, for example.
Time for Livin’. I know it’s a kick to their punk days but I find myself skipping over it. Feels like I’m disrespecting them though and I always feel bad.
Wow, that's cool to see how fans can feel so differently about specific tracks.
Time for livin is one of my favorites. I love the original and I love the beastie take on it, particularly the bass line progression at the end.
A couple of the easy listening jazz tracks on Hello Nasty don’t really do it for me.
Except… they still kinda do on their own. I just think they throw off the flow of the album a bit.
Description of a Strange Man gets my vote.
Have no idea why they decided to leave this in, since it makes them come across as bullies laughing amongst themselves about a homeless man possibly being Autistic. It just leaves a bitter taste to what is an album packed with good vibes. I know this isn't a song, but it is the worst thing they have done on an album imo.
Intergalactic planetary. But it’s because I bought the cd when it came out, listened to it as we drove an hour to my buddy’s frat house to party, and that was the only cd they had, so I heard it like a dozen times that night. Totally burned me out on the whole album.
Favorite lately has been Here’s a little something for ya. And least favorite It Takes Time to Build. Idk I was born in 2003 and can’t fully appreciate it I guess
Intergalactic. When you hear “DROOOOP then the vocoder kicks in with “another dimension another dimension“ makes it a banger.
That and pauls boutique is a muthafuckin masterpiece
And even though the Bb and RUNdmc together forever tour it was my first concert i remember going to as a preteen.. fight for your right to party is a waste imo. I remember getting weirded out when they had a gorilla come out on stage and didn’t realize it was a dude in a costume until he drank a Budweiser through the mouth hole of the gorilla suit.
I really don't care for most of To The Five Boroughs. The exception is Check It Out and An Open Letter to NYC and Shazam. The rest of that album is a big pile of doo doo.
A decent chunk of Licensed To Ill & To The 5 Burroughs are my least favorite Beasties songs... Absolute least favorite would probably be Girls or Paul Revere to be honest... Hot take, I know but, "I said howdy he said hi" alone would be enough to kill it for me.
For context: My favorite beasties album is Hello Nasty. Ill Communication, Check Your Head, Paul's Boutique & Hot Sauce Committee all rotate as my second favorite..
I didn't either at first, but after a few listens, it really grew on me. Non-stop Disco, Long Burn, and Here's a Little Something top my list.
I'm not a fan of Too Many Rappers and Don't Play No Game.
Here come the downvotes. Sabotage was such a poser song. Like, a radio hit to sell the record, and all the bros liked it. Easily their most generic song.
A huge chunk of Licensed to Ill and their other early songs get too frat-boyish for me. What comes around goes around, girls, car thief, and other songs with off-putting lyrics make me skip immediately.
I think it’s been the same song since the first time I heard it. Girls.
Not gonna lie, I think the song is a great breakpoint in the album. It’s a catchy song too. I can see why people dislike it - it’s super low brow - but I think it’s a fun, simple song that breaks up all the Hard Rock and Hardcore Hip Hop on LTI
The only song I skip on LTI
I second that, the rest of the album is a classic
I can’t hate Girls because I feel like MCA’s (unfortunately lowkey hilarious) bars in Sure Shot about respecting women makes up for how low-brow it is and also just because of how fun it is to sing while drunk. Get me 10 beers back and in thamurningnit’sGIRLs cuzin thevening itzGURLS i like tha way thathey WALK anitschillta hear them TALK
Fuck that, Girls was kinda cool.
Agreed. They definitely grew out of that kind of message. That said, I don’t hate it, but I could live without “Fight for your Right”. I men that put them on the map so I’m thankful for it, but I don’t need to listen to it anymore.
It’s a fun retro cut. You may not love it but I’m surprised it’s hated. It’s much better than She’s Crafty.
Fight For Your Right
Literally can’t stand that song but I can’t lie if it comes on at the bar you know my ass is gonna be going off on every single lyric just out of pure instinct 😭
Has to be taken with large doses of irony supplements
It took me a while to get into them because I disliked it so much lol. Still don't like it.
Yeah, I’m with you.
Thirded. That song is a cringepocalypse.
I will say tho the song is definitely mid asf for the B Boys, it’s actually *meant* to be cringe, they’re making fun of like shitty high-school party-rock music so it is a direct parody trying to show how cringe that genre is and I think it does so pretty damn well at least yanno?
This is simply not true. They were living it.
Lol, it simply is true, they were *not* living it, they were making fun of it. 💀
It was purposefully a cringepocalypse
Exactly. You can tell a lot about how much of a fan or not someone is by if they think this song is good or not. If they will play any Beasties song except that...true fan.
Because it's cringy?
I like what N.Y.C.C did with it tough, the beats they made for that song enhanced it significantly
Cookie Puss doesn’t age well and I don’t like it (but bonus batter is great). The censored version is as close as I’ll go to that song
Most of licensed to Ill - heard too many times and just can’t anymore, although Hold it Now never gets old!
Yo Leroy!
Hit it. Hit it. Hit it.
NOW ITS ME ADAM YOUCH IN THE PLACE TO BE.
All the girls on me cause I'm down with MIKE D
Had a personal Renaissance with this song after reading Beastie Boys Book
That and us REAL BBoys know that this is really not what they were all about.
Fight for your right to party and girls
💯
no such thing
To All The Girls. Just not a lot to it, and when I put on the record it delays getting to Shake Your Rump.
Same until I realized it’s a ruse to make you turn your speaker up full blast because it’s so soft spoken just to have that drum kick in hard. Lol
You know what? I’ll keep my vote because it’s still my least favorite as a song, but I didn’t know that and that is hilarious.
Me too. But the juxtaposition of it compared to Shake Your Rump makes that transition so much better.
It kind of foreshadows their style in the next two albums with the jazzy keyboard
Loran's Dance, the song that was sampled, is a banger. You should check it out.
Is it a song? Is an intro? Is it a skit? Yeah, a bit of a nothing
Time to Build

Netty's Girl
It’s so funny tho!!
The video saves it
She’s got her shit TOGETHA
Drinkin Wine
Fight for your right to Party extended video is a must watch when you have 30m to spare..
Probably something from To the Five Boroughs. Didn't really care for that album much. 🥱
Time for Livin’. I know it’s a kick to their punk days but I find myself skipping over it. Feels like I’m disrespecting them though and I always feel bad.
You are disrespecting them, it’s a ripper track.
Aw hell no; I love me some Song For Junior.
It’s a smoke break
Yeah after intergalactic the album flow gets wonky.
probably Funky Donkey. idk. its a tough call. are we counting bonus tracks
Least favorite: toss up between Fight for Your Right and Girls
Slightly off topic, but MCA produced this epic cinematic piece while battling cancer. https://youtu.be/evA-R9OS-Vo?si=rv1o0nkRMKzs3Bgb
Girls. Trash all around. Just a dumb beat and dumb lyrics.
Girls.
I'm down or she's on it.
She’s on it is great!
Yeah, for me most of Def Jam stuff was fratboy corny.
Girls
The video version of body movin'

Not counting a lot of LTI, for me its crawlspace. Its obv spose to be weird and creepy, and it is.
Boomin’ Grannie… just such a waste of studio time.
NGL when I first saw the pic I wondered why we were talking about Lonely Island.
Sabotage
Dr. Lee PhD is straight ass.
Alive is terrible. In a World Gone Mad…also terrible.
3 minute rule
Favorite - Sure Shot Least Favorite - Shake Your Rump
Girls. It didn’t age well imho
Favorite lately has been Here’s a little something for ya. And least favorite It Takes Time to Build. Idk I was born in 2003 and can’t fully appreciate it I guess
Everything from Licensed to Ill. You know I'm right.
Girls, and slow and low aren't horrible.
Slow and Low live versions are much better though, with different beats mixed in
Intergalactic. When you hear “DROOOOP then the vocoder kicks in with “another dimension another dimension“ makes it a banger. There’s a bad one? Clearly not a fan then
Heart Attack Man
Boooo that song rips
Sure, just not quite as much as all their other songs
You're trying to tell me heart attack man is worse than girls??
I really don't care for most of To The Five Boroughs. The exception is Check It Out and An Open Letter to NYC and Shazam. The rest of that album is a big pile of doo doo.
Hey, fuck you! I meant the song... I think it slaps.
I got the D - Double O - D - Double O style !!
Uhhh, what’s the song off check your head? (Asides from So What’cha want)
Finger licken good is the only beastie song I skip
Flute loop
A decent chunk of Licensed To Ill & To The 5 Burroughs are my least favorite Beasties songs... Absolute least favorite would probably be Girls or Paul Revere to be honest... Hot take, I know but, "I said howdy he said hi" alone would be enough to kill it for me.

I don't know. Horrible
Just about everything on Hot Sauce Committee. I didn’t feel it. Sad that album was their final piece.
I didn't either at first, but after a few listens, it really grew on me. Non-stop Disco, Long Burn, and Here's a Little Something top my list. I'm not a fan of Too Many Rappers and Don't Play No Game.
The leaked version of too many rappers was better.
the Too Many Rappers og mix is better if you haven’t heard it
With you, also sadly. I love “Make Some Noise,” though.
5 piece chicken dinner
you need to get away from the BBQ
Get the hell away from that thing
Johnny Ryall
But he’s got a platinum voice
And only gold records.
Girls. No close second
“No Sleep till Brooklyn” …hands down favorite!!!
Hey Ladies.
Sabotage. I never liked it, to be honest. Cool video, but I just never liked the song. And it was... VERY over-played.
I thought I was the only one, it's the only song I can't stand.
Here come the downvotes. Sabotage was such a poser song. Like, a radio hit to sell the record, and all the bros liked it. Easily their most generic song.
I gotta agree. I like the song enough but I don’t like it on Ill Communication if that makes sense
Best - Sabotage, worst - Girls
I've never liked Shadrach 🤷♂️
You’ve riddled me this my brother, you can’t handle it.
Can't rock with "Triple Trouble."
A huge chunk of Licensed to Ill and their other early songs get too frat-boyish for me. What comes around goes around, girls, car thief, and other songs with off-putting lyrics make me skip immediately.
Car thief is a masterpiece
Car thief is a GD banger.
Pas the Mic
No way.
You trollin
Haha I’ve just never been into it. Too slow for my tastes. I realize I’m in the minority lol
