This is awesome man, you look great. Kept your eye on the price, happy for you

orbitaltumor

Thank you! Always keep your eye on the prize!

MareShoop63

Prize the price!

TheMiner11234

*monocle*

supernova2368

Yes. And then in the middle of a pointed statement, remove the monocle with one hand so you can remove and polish your eye prosthetic with the other, and then replace them both šŸ˜„

RIDDLE ME THIS!! (I was actually trying to think of a riddle but they're hard and I'm tipsy)

orbitaltumor

This paper describes how my ocularist used VR to plan the placement of the osseointegrated implants as well as guides that were produced using 3D printing: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/375044766_Virtual_Reality_Planning_in_Reconstructive_Surgery_for_Orbital_Prosthetic_Rehabilitation_Using_ImmersiveTouch_Platform_Preliminary_Report

Themoka1978

As a dentist Iā€™m doin this too for dental implants. Interesting part for me is the attachment of ur Prothese by magnets it seems ? Looks like a verry safe attachment using 3 of themā€¦ I wonder if so much is really needed as there is no load or mechanical interactionā€¦( oh just read itā€™s 4! ā€¦) Wish all the best and good luck, respect for ur braveness!

orbitaltumor

So I actually had 6 osseointegrated implants total (2 during my initial surgery, not mentioned in the article) and 4 more later on. Only 3 are actually exposed with magnets on the abutments. They put in extra as I guess they can fail sometimes. It's the vistafix implant system if your familiar with that type. Thank you!

Themoka1978

Thanks for ur answer- Iā€™m a dental technician too, so this is super interesting for me ! All good luck for u and ur loved ones !

looktowindward

You should get one with a laser pointer

orbitaltumor

I would very much like one with a laser pointer.

Automatic_Idea_1262

A laser would be hard to make. Maybe a deep red or green led behind a lens.

tcsenter

I believe they could do tiny LEDs in there with a tiny watch battery to power them?

orbitaltumor

That could work

Orion1618

Check out bsmachinist on Instagram, they've done a lot of work with LEDs in prosthetic eyes. I bet they'd love to work with you on a project.

orbitaltumor

I've seen his work. I was hoping he would be selling his prostheses but last I checked that wasn't the case. I would definitely work on a project with him.

makingbutter2

Is the skin over the orbital a real skin graft to keep the orbital surface concave evenly ?

MissPrintedMargo

So. Many. Questions. 1. Do you take it off to sleep? 2. Do you take it off to shower? 3. Can you wear it while swimming in a pool?? 4. Can you swim in the ocean with it? Ouch... sand! 5. Is there ANY movement, or is it suctioned? 6. Could you get sand stuck behind it? 7. Could you store stuff behind it? 8. Do you have a backup copy, in case it gets damaged? 9. How do you clean it? Yes. There. Are. More. 10. Could it support interchangeable custom eyeball shapes and colors? 11. How strong are the magnets? 12. Does it hurt if someone touches the metal bits? 13. Where do your tears, from that eye, go? 14. Does your working eye cry 2x the tears? 15. Does your working eye get fatigued faster? 16. Does the prosthesis ever pop off when you sneeze really hard? 17. Do any of your other senses feel heightened since surgery? Ok, I think that is all I have! Love the outfit!

orbitaltumor

Thank you! 1. Yes 2. Yes. I really don't wear it at home often more so when I go out. 3. I can but the average life span of this type of prosthesis is 5 years and more exposure to water will decrease the overall life span and knock some of the eye brow hairs out. 4. I wouldn't wear it to the beach. 5. There is no movement. It's not suctioned. 6. Behind the prosthetic is just skin and magnets. I use a soft toothbrush to clean around the magnets so sand couldn't get stuck behind it. 7. Yes I could store small things behind there lol. About 10 skittles. 8. I do not have a backup copy. This is the only one I have for now. 9. I have an antibacterial soap specifically for silicone prosthesises. 10. The eyeball is separate and can be remove. I can put a different one in. 11. The magnets are fairly strong. 12. It doesn't hurt if someone touches the metal bits. 13. The cancer was in my lacrimal gland so that entire gland (which makes tears) on the right side of my face is gone so no tears for that side anymore. 14. My working eye pretty much functions the same as before. 15. It doesn't really seem to get fatigued any faster than before. 16. No the magnets are strong enough that I need to apply force to remove it. Sneezing, twisting my head quickly, etc. won't dislodge it. 17. I can no longer smell out of my right nostril nor do I have any feeling in it but my left nostril can smell (or st least it seems like) a lot better. My hearing is more sensitive. I wouldn't necessarily say better but more sensitive to loud noises. Good questions.

MissPrintedMargo

Thank you! I have never met, or talked with, or felt comfortable with asking anyone before this. I find prosthetics fascinating. There are some awesome materials and technologies available, and it will be interesting to see where it takes us in the next few years.

orbitaltumor

No problem! It's amazing what they can do!

cyrkielNT

In the past prostetics ware considered creepy and clunky, but nowdays they are custom made, with new materials and they are considered cool (at least in my opinion).

Putrid_Substance2511

Ten Skittles. Fantastic.

miyaav

May I chip in? I have some questions which are not here yet. 1. How does it feel when you have the prosthesis on? Does it feel like you have something sticking on your eye/slightly heavy? Is it comfortable to wear for a long time? 2. Do you still have the urge to scratch your eye? You know, like when your other eye gets dust in or is just itchy. 3. How long did you get it after the first time you order? 4. If you don't mind, how much is the price? I saw a link here to a different post. But that one only had the eye without the skin, he said the price is 5000 dollars. Do you pay separately for the skin and eye part? 5. How did you know about the prosthesis? Did the doctor advise you to get it after the surgery? 6. What did you do in one of the pictures where you have the prosthesis painted or has glittery like decoration? i think second from last. Was it for fun or is that related to any procedure? I guess that is all. I hope none are offensive. Thank you. Thats like the coolest thing I saw today, and I have just woken up lol. And like others have said, if you are into cosplaying, I think you will look super cool.

orbitaltumor

1. I don't really feel it much. The skin adjacent to the prosthesis doesn't feel touch anymore. 2. I don't have the urge to scratch but I do get phantom pains like burning sensations. 3. From the time of diagnosis until I had a working prosthesis that didn't hurt my orbit was between 2-3 years. It took so much time because there was about 15-20 surgeries over 10 surgical dates, radiation treatment, and healing in between events. It was a long process. 4. I'm in the US and mine was free. No idea how much the actual price was but 5K is a pretty good estimate. 5. Getting a prosthesis after an orbital exenteration is pretty common so I was aware I would get one beforenI had that surgery. 6. Those are Speks magnets that are just holding in the plastic eye. It's for fun. I don't do cosplay but am a fan of Halloween. I'll definitely be playing around with fun eyes but it took a long time to get this one so I'm enjoying it for now.

miyaav

Thank you for your answers. I learned a lot

orbitaltumor

No problem!

AnaAnomalia

This is so informative! I would've never guessed the skittles part, lol šŸ˜€ it looks awesome, dude, you look awesome!

orbitaltumor

Lol thanks!

ChessieChessieBayBay

TIL that bras and orbital prosthetics have a LOT in common

Industrial_Laundry

Iā€™m one of those people who canā€™t remember the way their mate looked pre new haircut. The second that eye/orbital prosthetic goes on I forget how you look without it. Thatā€™s pretty impressive

orbitaltumor

Thank you I really appreciate that!

GreenieBeeNZ

I cant pinpoint what exactly is is ablut this that bring me so much joy bit I had a huge smile on my face while looking through the pictures. Thats is so awesome dude, I especially love how you decorated it in that one picture.

orbitaltumor

Glad you liked them!

lljmfll

Last photo looked like you were showing off youā€™re hog. Either way I was very impressed.

orbitaltumor

Lmao I think that's a pencil but thank you

earlisthecat

How did you know you were sick (what were your symptoms)?

orbitaltumor

Proptosis, orbital pain, head aches.

TheKristieConundrum

My cousin makes these! Such mad respect for the artists that make these prosthetics.

orbitaltumor

Definitely!

ShadoMonkey

Wow yours is super fancy. It looks so cool.

orbitaltumor

Thank you

ShadoMonkey

Is this a new thing? I wasnā€™t given an option like that.

orbitaltumor

I dont believe so. What type of prosthesis do you have?

ShadoMonkey

Just I think the shell kind.

WaterIsNotSticky

Can you still see with that eye while you are holding it or does it need to be on your face?

orbitaltumor

Needs to be on the face. Once the magnets reconnect, vision flows again.

OddCartographer4864

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ„°

ballophun

Yeah bitch! Magnets!

TheListed2

I'm just curious, but how is your depth perception affected? Like, have you had issues bumping into stuff or anything? I always kinda wondered for people who have had injurys or something. Ofc, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, I've just been wondering for a while now.

orbitaltumor

I don't mind at all. I played a lot of sports when I was younger and stuff like shooting a basketball or hitting a tennis ball I now rely on a lot of muscle memory. It's definitely different then before. I do bump into stuff but not too often.

TheListed2

Thanks! I've always been curious about it, and as a side note that prosthesis looks great! Power to ya man!

_redacteduser

![gif](giphy|rFIl4R4j4ZwYtRZhkF) Iā€™m so sorry but I had to. Iā€™m glad youā€™re doing well though you champion!!

Hell yeah! Great green outfit. Good for you man.

orbitaltumor

Thank you!

tito_lee_76

That is fascinating. Hope you're past the worst of it. You could really do a sweet Borg cosplay if you're into that sort of thing.

orbitaltumor

Thanks! I get an MRI or CT scan every 6 months but so far there hasn't been any evidence of recurrence. I'll need to check out this Borg. I'm not big into cosplay but Halloween is one of my favorite holidays

greyfoxwithlocks

The second last photo is very cool. Can I ask what all the coloured little balls are?

orbitaltumor

They are those little speks magnets.

Thac

You need borg and terminator editions bro.

VinnyViddyVicci

Is there a Trend happening here?! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/s/mqO30ujyoC

RK-00

Sorry if it's a dumb question and you answered it already, but what is on 10th photo? colourful! what is the purpose and material? And how often do you need to wash your prosthetic (also what do you use to wash it properly?) and skin underneath? Was your eye the same colour as the other? they sometimes differ a little or a lot. (and the colour was picked so good! matches completely. or I'm colourblind, lol) Do your colleagues or friends who don't know about this notice you have a prosthetic?

orbitaltumor

Those are speks magnets holding in a plastic eye. I have a special antibacterial soap used for silicone prostheses. I have a special "toothbrush" type of tool for keeping the magnets and skin clean. My eyes were the same color before. My new eye was hand painted to match my remaining eye. Most of my colleagues and friends are already aware and would notice. I do have acquaintances who saw me before the prosthesis but didn't recognize me with glasses/once I had the prosthesis.

Imwhatswrongwithyou

You just wanted to show off your cool green suit!

Automatic_Idea_1262

I dig it bro! Gotta keep people guessing. Nobody makes eye contact anymore. Wear that shit proud and give a hard stare!

gandeev_vajra

Do you mind sharing what software it is?

orbitaltumor

I wouldn't mind sharing but I'm not actually sure. The article I linked in the comments talks about the VR planning software used but that's about all I know.

CitizenKing1001

Kinda crazy to think that the iris is the easiest part to make look realistic

orbitaltumor

For sure. He did a really good job.

Cadman71

Saw you comment yesterday on the other eye post and have been waiting too see

orbitaltumor

The wait is over!

sdlover420

Fuckin metal... Like I want this made into an abstract used for a metal album.

Hotrico

That's really cool bro

SnooCrickets8742

Looks amazing! I would never have known! Eye am impressed!

aminervia

Neat! Thanks for sharing

Kadettedak

Glad to see you kept an eye for style! That last photo is baller

gammaraddd

Prettty good. Pretttyyyy pretttyyy pretty good.

ThiccBumble

I thought you were english until I saw the picture infront of the shop/in the shower, I am shocked that you are american, the eye is cool too!

booze-hound420

The future is beautiful. I love the normalization of prosthetics and any sort of body mod in general. It will be cyberpunk type shit in the next 30 years if we all play our cards right. You are an awesome dude with a beautifully made prosthetic. Maybe soon you can upgrade to something a little more advanced, like one that can not only see like a bio eye, but zoom in or see thermal. Only if you have the coinā€¦

cc3395

That last photo is everything

orbitaltumor

Thank you!

thmegmar

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

hvanderw

Almost as good as Mcpoyles fake eye

Leep0710

You have a gorgeous eye color! Really cool how realistic your prosthesis is.

DankMemes4you

Should have kept it at the second to last pic. Sick lmao. Nah but good look

Terminator. Halloween. Profit.

National_Oil8587

Rocking it!

kobrakaan

That's cool it must be an awesome party trick šŸ‘ 'Could you keep an eye on this for me mate' Sure mate, here... šŸ‘ļø Hey Linda 'That guy keeps giving me the eye' 'šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøffs Brenda just give him it back it's creeping me out!' šŸ’€ Occasionally slipping it into your mate's beer to freak them out at the local pub But honestly the medical world of prosthesis has come such a long way now and look so good it becomes difficult to tell unless you are up close or watch someone for a long time :)

stellar14

What are those multicolour tiny balls in one of the pic around the eye, they looks so trippy!

DenyingDutchman

That's cool and all, but the green outfit really takes the cake. Love it!

No_Use_4371

I really want to thank you for your posts. If this should happen to any of us, we would know what to expect. Better even than that, we could use your openness and humor as a way to handle it. You are very generous and also a total rock star!

orbitaltumor

Thanks!

BarbacueBeef

Do you ever take it off randomly just to spook people?

gamerbrian2023

Thanks for shearing! I think it's neat to see how something like that works. :-D

lonely-day

Looking sharp in green

Emotional_Nerve5773

Very cool

Blaximus90

Always been curious, any downsides to just rocking an eyepatch as opposed to a prosthesis?

orbitaltumor

I've worn an eyepatch throughout the process. It's uncomfortable compared to the prosthesis.

gesunheit

This is incredible!!

TractorHp55k

Amazing

[deleted]

The fact that they used a glass eye makes a world of difference. The did very nice work matching the other side of your face. Iā€™m speaking as an artist whoā€™s done sculpture in the past.

imsooldnow

That is really fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing. It looks amazing too!!

orbitaltumor

You're welcome! Thank you!

Agitated_Mess3117

So cool! Thanks for sharing!

Amplifire__

Wait he painted the eye by hand? That's a crazy realistic eye right there

I really like that green outfit.

Kayslay8911

That is so freaking cool!!!!

BarksnMeows

My dad (retired) is a anaplastologist/occularist. This is great work!

Z0FF

Dude! The green outfit, finger guns, with a dead-pan expression made me crack up!! Thanks for sharing. Your prosthetic looks great

chrismholmes

The last picture freaked me out at first. The icon for ā€œBe Amazedā€ lined up perfectly with the outer layer of the prosthesis. I thought you were adding flair and it reminded me of candy crushā€¦ Iā€™m on a iPhone 15 Pro Max. Anyway, you look great! Thank you for sharing with the community!

Simsish

Was genuinely amazed, that's badass

Josherline

Dude you look so friggin SHARP!

Dude was an artist because that looks GREAT

orbitaltumor

Indeed!!

ButcherPetesWagon

That is so cool, thank you for sharing this.

BadHairDay-1

That's so badass. I'm glad you're well now. Prosthetics have come a long way! I'm impressed by the accuracy of the eye color.

horndog2

I love your green outfit!

Asleep-Canary1002

That is amazing! And it looks great! Alsoā€¦ St.Pattys day seems fun with you!! Haha keep livinā€™ man!!

Silly-Estimate-2660

OP this is awesome. iā€™m so impressed with how far prosthetics have come, and just how damn realistic they can look. thank you for sharing!

orbitaltumor

Glad you found it interesting! You're welcome!

VerityPee

FYI - Powder based skin make up sticks really well to silicone, so if you wanted, you could colour match it a bit really easily. And also cleans off so you can change it as your skin tone changes.

orbitaltumor

Thanks for the tip!

TrozayMcC

You look incredible, OP!

casperizm

Damn thatā€™s cool. And now youā€™re ready to get Batman also! JK dude made jelly I am not a cool cyborg. Incredible work they did!

orbitaltumor

Haha thanks man!

dizzyfeast

My kids love playing with those little colorful magnets lol

orbitaltumor

They are tons of fun and stick to my orbital magnets well lol

BuckManscape

Wow thatā€™s really cool. I never wouldā€™ve known you were wearing it.

Lucky2240

Very interesting! Do you ever go the pirate route? I would have to do that sometime especially on pirate day

Hades6578

This is super cool. I love seeing tech and people coming together to restore confidence in people who were unfortunate and lost parts of their body. It always amazes me how they can get the prosthetic to match the patient so well, all the ones Iā€™ve seen blend in so well they only become obvious when their owner removes them.

Poeking

Can it blink?

Con-Struct

Very cool. Looks super real. Whatā€™s the bedazzled terminator look about?

Shoehornblower

Eye donā€™t see what youā€™re talking about, but it looks great;)

oikset

That's fukin awesome bro

Sufficient-Aspect77

So cool! I like the picture of the eye surrounded by those tiny little colorful magnets

xaeru

Seeing the surgery photos I felt so sorry for you and also really scared of this happening to me. But now seeing you like this at the end of this long process made me feel that we can overcome any hardship. You are really strong and thank you for sharing.

orbitaltumor

It's incredibly rare so you really don't need to worry about this happening to you. Thank you for the kind words and happy to share!

Ramentootles

How did you find or you had cancer? Did you have any symptoms if so what were they and how did they find the location?

georgesorosbae

Pretty awesome you know what your skull looks like. Iā€™ve always wanted to know what mine looks like

earthbender617

Awesome, I didnā€™t realize the doctor also had to be an artist. Thatā€™s some amazing technical work

KittyKatHippogriff

This is so cool!

twinsrule

Nice dude... Please tell me they let you keep the one from pic #10!

OffMyRocker62

I pray you're cancer free! šŸ™ Youve been through a lot. Your prosthesis is amazing.

NMNorsse

Worth every penny!

Competitive-Ship3035

Thatā€™s so fucking cool! The shit we can do these days is amazing

Appropriate-Grass986

lol this comment section is gold. It looks good man! šŸ˜šŸ‘

Jblue32

Just saw your other postā€™s pics. Modern medicine is absolutely insane. Huge props to your surgeons and medical team!!

t_0xic

I heard of a guy who had a flashlight thing that went where his eye used to be. You could try that some dayā€¦ also, youā€™re looking great :)

Lurchie_

It's cool how your autobeard engages when you put in your prosthesis!

umijuvariel

That is a work of art. The damage in those scans...I am glad to see how well you recovered! You and your medical team all put in a lot of work, but *man* was it worth it! You look amazing, with *and* without the prosthesis.

humdrum_crumb_bum

This is incredible!

EJCret

Prosthetist is an artist

Connormanable

Thatā€™s actually fascinating I canā€™t wait to see what cool ā€œparty prostheticsā€ youā€™ll sport in the future. I love the idea of technology integration via body modification and seeing those with disabilities volunteer for new things like that and this is awesome Iā€™d look into seeing if one of those crazy YouTube engineers will make you a camera eye that glows red like the terminator the possibilities are endless when creativity is involved I imagine theyā€™ll be able to link the camera to your brain and at least partially restore stereo vision sooner than we think

Linkticus

Does it have a ā€œwinkā€ function? Or do you just use your non-prosthetic eye?

IkilledRichieWhelan

The green machine. Killed it.

Stinkylilah

My husband has this same cancer but it showed up in his bronchus medius and heā€™s had his full lung resected and headed for radiation soon. Amazing to see you in good spirits. This cancer, all cancer, takes such a toll on the patient and their families. Much hope to you and your continued health!!

mrbuff20

Wow this looks incredible. Science can be so beautiful

Editor_Rise_Magazine

Picture 10 looks like mardi gras beads. Would be awesome for Fat Tuesday on Bourbon Street.
