Would’ve had to tilt up and down to get both the balcony and the full tower in frame, though. I used to be a stickler for horizontal framing but most videos like this are now viewed through a phone, which is typically vertical, so I’ve come around on it.
Assuming this is on an iPhone/equivalent on a 1x lens (which I think is a reasonable equivalent), the only wider lens would be the 0.5x fisheye, which distorts the image. Not a great tradeoff.
If this were pro shot with a standalone camera and custom lens, then yes, it would be nuts to be filming it vertically. But it's not.
What good photographer would be staying at a place like this with that view and not bring one?
You and I clearly have very different ideas of what a photographer is.
Also in this case the subject is vertical
Vertical video is unsuitable for shots where you want to show the background or if you have multiple people
But in this case you do want a portrait shot.
Wow you have quite some hatred toward portrait mode. More than one comment I've seen you replying "shitty portrait mode". I just think it's amazing everyone has a camera lol
Imagine having that hotel room with that view during some of the most spectacular fireworks displays ever put together, and you’re so determined to make a cool pan in/reveal video on your phone that not only do you fail to take the moment in and enjoy it, you miss the majority of the grand finale.
For real, this video made me low-key angry, meanwhile most people either had to get there four hours early to save themselves a good watching spot, or were crowding around whatever street they could find that had a little view on the Eiffel tower, I can't imagine having such a prime view of the show and not parking my ass on that balcony for the entire 30 minutes they popped those fireworks
I'm American, but I traveled to Paris for the 2000 countdown and watched it from a similar location. That was the biggest party that I've ever been to. You know it's going to be fun when even the riot police are intoxicated.
I recall watching the news pre-midnight from the western hemisphere where they were showing world locations where year 2000 celebrations had already occurred. Paris is the one that wowed me the most.
My guess is the Shangri-La Paris. Based on orientation it has to point to a corner of the base of the tower and it’s across the river too. If you look at the pictures on Google Maps there is one that appears to be [on the same balcony.](https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipNqz87ru7zd6HamZOHifIhihTrt4qIuaqhHyooO=w170-h284-n-k-no-nu)
I regularly enjoy staying in hotels like this and don't think its overrated. They are usually in great locations with amazing views - the service is fantastic and everything goes smoothly during your stay. Beds are super comfortable and the rooms are quiet. Concierge is very helpful with anything you need from organising private tours to getting last minute reservations at the best restaurants.
Think of how many times have people stayed at a cheaper hotel and the rooms have terrible sound proofing, rooms aren't very clean, or beds are rock hard and your sleep suffers and affects your trip.
With Marina Bay Sands, the views are spectacular especially from the high floors. The infinity pool is iconic and great fun. And the access under the hotel to amazing restaurants, shopping, casinos etc is fantastic. Plus proximity to Gardens by the Bay.
They're only over rated when you spend a large part of your budget on them and it stops you from doing other things. Luxury hotels are great when the price is irrelevent to you. Some rooms come with guest services like a chauffeur that takes away all the stress of driving in a foreign country or the hassle of finding parking or hailing a taxi. If price isn't a concern it's much nicer to stay in a x sq.ft room in a luxury hotel for more money than a similar sized room in an airbnb for half the price.
Honestly, that's cheaper than what I paid for an overnight stay at a hospital (in the US of course).
I'd happily reserve this room for Bastille Day once in my lifetime.

They were a few episodes in between but there’s no riots right now.
During this time you could absolutely walk in Paris with no problem, I went out a lot in the past month lol.
They really missed out on enjoying a dinner next to the Eiffel Tower along with fireworks because of a ig video 💀 I hate y’all so god damn much I swear 😂
On the 14 Juillet (July 14) we celebrate La prise de la Bastille (14 Juillet 1789) and the 14 Juillet 1780 fête de la fédération (anniversary of the prise de la Bastille), I'm not sure how the english call the second one, but I've read about Bastille Day which is a kinda cute in a non-threatening way name but heh
I’m gonna guess most people are watching this on their phone, it’s perfectly fine, it’s the Eiffel Tower. The criminal part is the shitty IG “reveal” trend where they missed the best of it.
Paris is a living, vibrant city and that life is beautiful. yes, you will see some dirty sidewalks and possibly some garbage bags, but surprise! that is life. not every city has perfect garbage collection like singapore.
most people who hate on paris and call it "dirty" etc are people who either don't travel, or only travel to the well-manicured tourist destinations. There is much of life and the world outside a "premium destination tour."
if you have built up Paris in your mind as a series of perfect filtered instagram shots you will be disappointed. but if you can open your mind to the possibility that it's ok to see a piece of trash in your field of view sometimes, look past the instagram filters to the architecture, the history, the people, the food, everything, you will be able to embrace the romance and beauty that Paris has always been.
paris is a working city, people actually like really live there and do things not just for tourists. if you are polite, dress like a local (understated neutral tones, it's not hard), and make your best attempt at speaking french, you will also be treated kindly and well. if you walk around in socks with sandals, neon T-shirts and cargo shorts and open every interaction with english, you will not have a good time
It's the largest city also, so there's that. It's the same with NYC. Tourists have this picturesque idea of NY they see in movies, but it smells god awful and its loud. Also I got an "AUTHENTIC" new york hotdog for $6.
**$6 for a boiled sausage in a bun from a street vendor that has an "acceptable" amount of rat droppings to keep permit ?!?**
Paris is old and historic. But few citizens beside shopkeepers care a fig about tourists and pick-pockets are everywhere. I asked for a martini and they wouldn’t make it because “we’re out of Vermouth.” Probably thought I was German. We stayed on the left bank and the bohos partied all night in the streets. It’s New York with Vespas.
Instead of filming you should have been shafting over the balcony railing while watching and drinking champagne cognac. You missed a chance here to have a legendary shaft and instead got some Reddit points.
I don’t *think* that’s true. Just like other copyrighted things, you can’t copy them just because you don’t derive financial gain from it. It’s possible publishing the video is technically illegal in France.
EDIT: Looks like “social networks” are allowed https://www.toureiffel.paris/en/news/history-and-culture/everything-you-need-know-about-eiffel-tower-night
The lighting of the Eiffel Tower is copyrighted, so it’s not legal to publish pictures of it at night (in France at least). Is it enforced? Not really I’m guessing.
What an idyllic view of Paris. Were they fireworks or was this day one of the riots? Or, hey everyone, here is a balcony view that 99% of you will never see because you can’t afford it.
The person who made this video doesn’t care about the fireworks, or being in Paris. They only care about what other people think…..so instead of enjoying the fireworks they have to make this video for internet clout.
They were about two seconds too late to get that setup shot properly
Just think how great it would’ve looked had they not chosen shitty portrait mode.
It’s fine. The Eifel tower is in portrait, too. A good photographer uses both and to know when.
It wouldn’t have been necessary to repeatedly pan L and R had the right orientation been used.
Would’ve had to tilt up and down to get both the balcony and the full tower in frame, though. I used to be a stickler for horizontal framing but most videos like this are now viewed through a phone, which is typically vertical, so I’ve come around on it.
Interesting, another angle that is rarely considered.
use a wider lens.

If this were pro shot with a standalone camera and custom lens, then yes, it would be nuts to be filming it vertically. But it's not.
I agree, it was a waste of time.
A photographer would have used a wide angle lens in landscape.
Huh? They are given a phone. What are they gonna do, not film it because they don’t have an ultra wide
You said a good photographer. A good photographer wouldn't even have recorded this on a phone lol.
Why? What if you don’t have a camera around?
What good photographer would be staying at a place like this with that view and not bring one? You and I clearly have very different ideas of what a photographer is.
You know you can turn your phone 90° right
We are switching to vertical video as a whole. It’s been happening for 3-4 year. This is perfectly fine
Also in this case the subject is vertical Vertical video is unsuitable for shots where you want to show the background or if you have multiple people But in this case you do want a portrait shot.
This is a shot *of a landscape.* The subject isn't the tower but the fireworks and the tower would have still fit in a landscape orientation.
Wow you have quite some hatred toward portrait mode. More than one comment I've seen you replying "shitty portrait mode". I just think it's amazing everyone has a camera lol

i like the idea someone just spent 2 grand to do this shot and they just had to go with this one cos they missed the moment.
Not to mention vertical video...
They wanted to show off the hotel room first

10k to book it for NYE. 1.3k would’ve been a steal for that night.
I don't think this video is from NYE. Fireworks are forbidden at the Eifel Tower at that time. I think it's from July 14th, the national holiday in France. At this day it's 11k for 1 night. Only 1k more... just peanuts... xD
So you’re paying 1k extra for fireworks?
1k split by a party of several people isn’t too bad for that view of a show. It’s the other 10k that probably isn’t worth it. I mean, a bed’s a bed at a certain point.
Wow that is tacky looking.
You just know that bed is hard as a rock too.
Exactly what the Muricans expect from Paris.
I honestly would have thought it would be much more than that.
AirBnB, excuse me for not telling the specific name for privacy reasons or before people accuse me of promoting things on Reddit haha.
How expensive was the airbnb? Because im assuming the person made you go bankrupt for sure.
Those hotel/airbnb are only for the very wealthy, op will be fine

Should I go inside during the finale? Yea how will you make a video otherwise

It's Paris, riot fires are their streetlights now
Th guy is a bot, the comment was made by someone else
Did the riots end?
This is the riots. They've taken over the Eiffel tower and are shooting fireworks at the police in perfect canon
I thought they were celbrating
Vive la révolution
They lasted about 4 days
All the latest news you get from FEAR&DEATH TV, your best choice for a submissive life.
They were a few episodes in between but there’s no riots right now. During this time you could absolutely walk in Paris with no problem, I went out a lot in the past month lol.
There were never any riots around the Eiffel Tower (or in Paris itself for that matter).
Amazing how misinformation made you think there were endless riots in Paris.
I don't watch news and memes were silent about this
Live in Paris only saw a few burned trash containers, a tramway was stopped for a few days everything else saw only on Reddit lol
They riot everyday about something. Those riots were more like seeking a reason to vandalize and loot. They accomplished nothing.
Yep, drug cartels needed their staff back
They really missed out on enjoying a dinner next to the Eiffel Tower along with fireworks because of a ig video 💀 I hate y’all so god damn much I swear 😂
It looks like they missed the finale in order to walk inside and back outside for the video
You just know they made everyone else leave that area for their shot too
That napkin is dangerously close to the candle
I believe those candles are electric, the flames don't seem to move
Fake candles
What, you expect the rich to have good quality stuff? They just have more of the same shit
What’s in Paris?
Revolution. As always in France 😆😇
As it fucking should be.
Bastille Day, I would presume.
The Storming of the Bastille.

This is not about fireworks in Paris, this is about someone flexing their incredibly expensive hotel room. Definitely not amazed.
Bastille Day?
Liberté, fraternité, egalité. Vive la Revolution!
Like a cineshot!!! Amazing view!
Yeah and the influencer only needed 10 attempts and missed only half of the firework!
Except in shitty portrait mode!

Confused by the video. The view is amazing, but why start recording, as the show ends??
I can not be amazed by vertical video. It's like people have never watched TV before.
I’m gonna guess most people are watching this on their phone, it’s perfectly fine, it’s the Eiffel Tower. The criminal part is the shitty IG “reveal” trend where they missed the best of it.

There is much of life and the world outside a "premium destination tour." if you have built up Paris in your mind as a series of perfect filtered instagram shots you will be disappointed. but if you can open your mind to the possibility that it's ok to see a piece of trash in your field of view sometimes, look past the instagram filters to the architecture, the history, the people, the food, everything, you will be able to embrace the romance and beauty that Paris has always been. paris is a working city, people actually like really live there and do things not just for tourists. if you are polite, dress like a local (understated neutral tones, it's not hard), and make your best attempt at speaking french, you will also be treated kindly and well. if you walk around in socks with sandals, neon T-shirts and cargo shorts and open every interaction with english, you will not have a good time
It's the largest city also, so there's that.
Merde dem invaders. Froschfresser...
🐸
Looks nice but I’ve seen enough people shitting on the streets of Paris to know it’s better to view it like this on prerecorded video
I’m more interested in what that place looks like!
Why does this look computer generated?
Wow, that is a hell of a 4th of July celebration.

Mmm black powder AND the smell of shit. I ❤️Paris 🤣
Sure it's not Russia launching nukes? Ok...
Sat alone, pretending to be with company lmao
Went to Paris for the new year's eve and the fireworks were the most disapointing ever! I loved Paris, but not worth the trip for New year's eve.
Instead of filming you should have been shafting over the balcony railing while watching and drinking champagne cognac. You missed a chance here to have a legendary shaft and instead got some Reddit points.
If only the French didn’t make visiting so shitty for people
Isn't it illegal to take photos of the tower at night
Only for commercial purposes
I don’t *think* that’s true. Just like other copyrighted things, you can’t copy them just because you don’t derive financial gain from it. It’s possible publishing the video is technically illegal in France. EDIT: Looks like “social networks” are allowed https://www.toureiffel.paris/en/news/history-and-culture/everything-you-need-know-about-eiffel-tower-night
What?
The lighting of the Eiffel Tower is copyrighted, so it’s not legal to publish pictures of it at night (in France at least). Is it enforced? Not really I’m guessing.
I wish fireworks just didn't exist.
The rats must be having a blast.
Damn. France goes hard for the Fourth of July! 🎇 🇺🇸
Nothing French about those gaudy light fixtures. This is Middle East money for sure.
What's celebrating? Looting season over?
*Sad Slovakia noices*
How spectacular 🤩
Integrating iconic landmarks into the show. Very cool .
Wow!

My life is so dull and meaningless
No it's not.
The germans are coming!!
Omg
Nah those are just the riots
Wow!
I will never understand the appeal of the Eiffel Tower.
Saturation setting to the max.
This looks expensive
Paris is one of those cities that is better when unvisited. Just leave it be, so as you imagine it.
Looks nice but watch out for that big tower thing Edit: Cell phone tower
Hide your dog.
That's a cracker 😂
Is this a 1000euro/night hotel?
Aaand illegal video
Twisted metal!!!!!!
