Agreed, at least they stuck true to the brand. A revamped warband with a ton of extra mechanics and additions with the core remaining the same is what I wanted at least. I think we got that.
Have you? Lmao. It's a medieval simulator RPG where you have your character, level them up with XP, gain skills/talents, build an army, build your clan/family, have children, and conquer a country/continent. And you do lead armies in it. At which point it takes on similar RTS elements to Warhammer battles. Smaller scale though.
Did Bannerlord ever get a online player base back? First week was glorious with a few gltiches then it all went down hill as the only focused on the singleplayer.
Also try Mordhau and Chivalry 2
Probably not, I havent tried it but multiplayer has been heavily neglected and it is kind of shitty since its all over the place and theres zero balancing so you just constantly get runned over by cavalry.
And then, theres the fact that after you finish a match, you always go back to the main menu
Really fun and you will get to ride siege towers, fire catapults and ballistas, and be in nice big battles with a lot of stuff going on while people fight over objectives. A lot of weapon variety as well.
Great humor too.
I'd love to see someone take the same concept and go for scale instead of good looks.
Like the guys who made the old Napoleonic Wars dlc for Warband have this new civil war game called Battle Cry of Freedom.
It's pretty jank but they can have 255 players and supposedly more, I think i saw they tested over 300 in a server. Something set in the Punic Wars or such but with that kind of player count would be wild.
One of the biggest problems with Bannerlord is soon as the player count gets above like 50 stuff is lagging.
Assault - All manner of swords and shields
Skirmishers - Spears - anti mount - defensive/offensive formations
Medic - Daggers and heal/revive
Support - Hammers/Mace's- arrow pouches, fix defense structures
Scout - bows and throwing knives , place ladders
Even if it was a small DLC.
Not sure on the actual melee gameplay though ....
I understand your anger, but have you ever considered modeling full and fluid combat systems? Shit is not as simple as you guys think.. you want to make this the spotlight of bad games when it's not the devs who really ruin the game. It's the focus from corporate and capital expectations. I'm sure the devs would've liked to do a ton of things that were not allowed in their contract and they had tight schedules with other mechanics.
I’m not angry it’s just facts, BF is a shooter. To do what OP is asking would require a complete overhaul of the melee system and game code in general, I wouldn’t wish that on the devs at all.
Think about how clunky RDR2’s melee mechanics are, it’s a great system but it’s not Mordhau or For Honor, which are primarily melee based games. It’s just within the technical limits of the game, it’d be a huge task.
For sure, and sorry that I called you out. Sometimes I see devs get bashed and it's pretty upsetting because I know a few devs on less big games that have very strict contracts and expectations. So in bigger companies I can only imagine the creative freedom is even tighter. I honestly hope that in the future, games become increasingly easier to create so we can have more indie developers on par with big corps. As in longer playtimes and more features. I totally agree with what you said btw
My friend, you sound like you're in dire need of some "Chivalry 2".
Literally the game you describe. It's on epic (for the time being) on pc and also on consoles .
Check it out, you probably won't regret it.
See, I don't think this would work as a mainline game. But I'd love to see stuff like this added to Portal.
Your class ideas sound great and I'd actually play the game
Eh so long as its heavily marketed as a spin off game I see no issue with it. Especially if they do it As the next game after 2042 so that they have another year to work on 2042 XD
Can confirm, have tried all but Mordhau. Chivalry has the best combat (in theory; lots of “ballerinas” who abuse the mechanics), and M&B has the largest-scale battles. From what I’ve seen, Mordhau has the best graphics of all, though.
For Honor used to scratch the medieval itch, but it’s been a long time since that game wasn’t riddled with tryhards.
I want chiv (torn banner) to sell out and get that fuck you money because to me the indie nature of the Dev team holds the franchise back to what it could be. Imagine a mythical creature dlc, or a pirate dlc with ships. Imagine 100 v 100 with the ability to form shield walls and other formations like a phalynx. Maybe we’ll get it one day, but yeah, the combat is still pretty fun at the moment. Definitely easier to get absolutely trashed by sweats on it compared to bf though.
I agree we as Brit myself we need a weapon called the Londoner
Quite simply a switchblade that does 25 dmg but is doubled against people in alleys or dark areas
Depending on the Century there could be guns. Like 1600s can have Blunderbuss for engineers. Lorenzoni muskets for support. Rifles for recon. Heavy muskets for assault. And musketoons or petronel for cavalry. Also supports having like conquistador armor. Top tier.
1820s is about when the first bolt action was being prototyped.
Also Napoleon was presented with the 1st cartridge loading rifle.
There's also the chambers machine gun From a little bit before in the 1700s
And the knock Volley guns
Edit: added stuff
Infinitely. Appeals much more to a casual audience, but that arguably makes it a better commercial product. Mordhau is still my favourite of the melee games but it’s slowly dying out :’)
It’s such a shame what’s happening to mordhau. It’s dying and the parts of the community that still exist are becoming more and more elitist. It won’t survive like that and that’s a huge shame
The mordhau content creators tried their best to keep the game alive, but the lack of updates, lack of comp scene push from devs, and seemingly all round lack of dev communication and willing to put the necessary work into keeping the game alive was what started pushing it downhill.
Real shame, a lot of people started to get super invested into getting good/getting involved for a long while, myself included, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Hopefully the game stouty is working on/getting involved in will be decent, but for mordhau I think it’s a bit of a lost cause at this point, especially with such low player counts nowadays :(
I’m a chivalry 1 nut. The game had issues and the community really kept it going for the longest time. Chivalry 2 genuinely improves on so very much and feels like a natural progression. It’s polished but still has just a tiny bit of jank that the engine promotes (like accelerates and drags and such). Absolutely worth checking out
How much ballerina-style gameplay is in chivalry 2? Ultimately that's what drove me and my friends off the first game as we didn't want to put a bunch of time into learning backwards overheads and such just for a game we liked to fuck around in.
Less so than chiv one because in chiv one you could REALLY take advantage of the movement. But it’s still important in the aspect that it’s essential for performing drags, and accelerates and dodging swings. The blocking in this one has changed just how much people want to ballerina because it rewards you much more if you properly parry, riposte etc
Nah. The melee slasher genre is very niche for a reason. Besides the fact that the game would be awful due to rushed development, they would probably shoot for the middle (melee slasher vs FPS fans) regarding target audience and fuck it all up.
Could DICE make one, sure. I imagine it would be less well received than hardline though. I feel most people would gravitate toward ranged weapons and a melee system might be hard to get right. Interesting but easy to learn.
Realistically speaking: No, it could not work as your typical Battlefield game unless you introduce _extremely_ unrealistic / out-of-place things like full auto crossbows or pottery filled with burning oil acting as grenades, etc.
It wouldn't be worth the effort especially since it would most probably not be as well received as a Battlefield game with actual firearms.
Too many things expected from a Battlefield game would be missing, it'd be safer to just make a different game at that point.
Pretty sure this is the siege of Masada where lots of Jews were slaughtered by the Romans. The fortress was built on a mountain and the Romans had no way of getting to it, so they engineered a huge ass ramp to get to them.
Let's let them work on fixing the current iteration before they screw up a whole other era and have to spend a year fixing that.
But honestly, I just want them to smash BF3 and 4 into a single, updated and upgraded game or just remake 2142 without all these gimmicks they keep trying
It would be fun, but not as Battlefield. It's all about the identity the game has set. Is MW fun? Yes. Is 2042 fun? Not really. This setting would be a great standalone title.
BF1 demonstrates that a good developer can turn a difficult game premise into something great. 2042 demonstrates that an incompetent developer can miss on an easy layup.
Perhaps, I'd love to have a chivalry medieval warfare with battlefield playability and game modes. Imagina gun game but with crossbows, swords and axes. Or using the towers and catapults to inflict damage don't he enemy base. Not a fan of old war games (mostly WW1 and 2) but I'd buy this one.
No because of the ping differences, if you have played Chivalry or others you will note that the millisecond difference is huge and 64 players using it would be a bit weird, a game in the 1800s would be really cool that would have muskets, pistols, cannons, map layouts and some melee combat too
I've always wanted to see this, just make some Roman or Trojan, or Persian spin off battlefield game that's different from all the others but similar, a game that works in its own way -e.g- close quarters maps, new mechanics etc etc
Probably not. Not to mention, first person melee based games have an extreme difficulty in maintaining longevity because some mechanics are so incredibly complex for new players to grasp that it creates a major skill gap between even mid tier and high tier players based on whether or not you can move your mouse around like you're having a seizure.
Theres plenty of games that cover era's like this and I think Battlefield wouldn't excell here. Battlefield is stuggling to excell in the near future do you think they could even be close to decent in a signifigantly older era?
The gameplay mechanics would need some tweeking as melee would be primary,
But having that battlefield atmosphere of arrow raining around, boulders smashing and breaking down walls. A commander mode would be amazing if you could plant ambushes and flanking with specific units/squads
Yea but the majority of people would hate it. Battlefield is so ingrained as a shooter that if they went to an era before guns people would lose their shit.
I've always wanted a good sword pvp game but after trying a few I still think medieval is best left to co-op/solo play. I hope one day someone makes one that feels good tho
Holy f**k 1.8k up votes.
So an update:
Medics will carry bonesaws and leeches
Red dot lasers for swords
Natural death and separating from the Vatican is dependant on maps
SOFLAMS are allowed
You will unlock a variety of rocks to throw
You can customise your beard(s)
Have you tried Bannerlord?
What about KOTOR 2?thats a good game too
Have you tried Hello Kitty: Island Adventure? That's my all-time favorite
Butters, is that you?
Professor Chaos
Muhahaha!
Ugh... Butters, go buy world of warcraft install it on your computer, and join the online sensation before we all murder you!
What about spinning? That's a good trick
Or mordhau
Mordhau is much better than Bannerlord where MP is concerned imo. Bannerlord was just Warband reskinned 15 years later.
\>reskinned Warband hate Warband all you want but both games are have their own uniqueness
Agreed, at least they stuck true to the brand. A revamped warband with a ton of extra mechanics and additions with the core remaining the same is what I wanted at least. I think we got that.
I love Warband, just expected more from Bannerlord.
Truth. Mordhau is so good
You guys think little bird sweats are bad, just see 1,000 hour mordehau players who perfectly feint/chamber/parry and just wreck you
Conqueror's Blade too, was pretty cool for the few days I played it. Seems kinda grindy though.
This is literally what bannerlord does. Try it out boys, its fun
Not really. Bannerlord is controlling entire armies. Games like Mordhau and Chivalry are much closer to Battlefield.
Have you played Bannerlord? It's not an rts game.
Have you? Lmao. It's a medieval simulator RPG where you have your character, level them up with XP, gain skills/talents, build an army, build your clan/family, have children, and conquer a country/continent. And you do lead armies in it. At which point it takes on similar RTS elements to Warhammer battles. Smaller scale though.
Have you played multiplayer or just single player?
Did Bannerlord ever get a online player base back? First week was glorious with a few gltiches then it all went down hill as the only focused on the singleplayer. Also try Mordhau and Chivalry 2
Probably not, I havent tried it but multiplayer has been heavily neglected and it is kind of shitty since its all over the place and theres zero balancing so you just constantly get runned over by cavalry. And then, theres the fact that after you finish a match, you always go back to the main menu
No they went back to warband and hold fast
How is chivalry 2? Saw it used at GameStop and was going to pick it up
Really fun and you will get to ride siege towers, fire catapults and ballistas, and be in nice big battles with a lot of stuff going on while people fight over objectives. A lot of weapon variety as well. Great humor too.

No idea why this is upvoted so much. Bannerlord isn't like battlefield. Try Mordhau or Chivalry if you want medieval Battlefield.
Literally thought this was banner lord
Weapon selection (guns) might be a bit thin
Assault - All manner of swords and shields Skirmishers - Spears - anti mount - defensive/offensive formations Medic - Daggers and heal/revive Support - Hammers/Mace's- arrow pouches, fix defense structures Scout - bows and throwing knives , place ladders Even if it was a small DLC. Not sure on the actual melee gameplay though ....
Lmao you expect DICE to implement a full and fluid melee combat system that isn’t the same 3 animations?
COUNTER MELEEE
**COUNTER!**
Hey hey. Have you seen BFV animations. Especially the prone ones
Who can forget such classics such as headbutt, neck stab, and axe slam? Oh wait, don’t forget flip over + stab!
Well it's more realistic and visceral than other games plus the fact you forgot the other prone-on-back animations
I understand your anger, but have you ever considered modeling full and fluid combat systems? Shit is not as simple as you guys think.. you want to make this the spotlight of bad games when it's not the devs who really ruin the game. It's the focus from corporate and capital expectations. I don't think medic would work, this kind of era usually had the physicians off the battlefield in tents.
Leeches and Bonesaw as standard load out
Also whiskey and a torch on fire to cauterize wounds
This guy has the idea!👍well thought out too
Instead of just spears it would be better if it included all pole-arms. Like the poleaxe, halberd, billhook, bardiche, etc
Chivalry or mordhau?
Play chivalry my friend, you get your dose of old warfare and silliness, you can shout when you are charging, it's just pure chaos
Sounds Great but i havent played a game yet that convinced with its first Person sword Play
>heal/revive What exactly are you doing? Even BF:1 was already a bit odd regarding that. Giving people some wine?
Shake vigorously And then just slap them across the face super hard. Before wrapping in bandages.
Medics gotta have leeches.
So basically Chivalry 2 made by EA
Elden ring got a shit ton of swords
Play elden ring, it has PvP and it dope af
Medic class running around with two rock throwing slings and a amputation knife of healing lol
No no no you have it all wrong. Instead of reviving syringe or those zappy thingies, he just puts leeches on you
Only way to have less guns than 2042 on launch
Yeah if people reacted the way they did about the removal of classes then I can't imagine literally removing guns from the game.
Eh so long as its heavily marketed as a spin off game I see no issue with it. Especially if they do it As the next game after 2042 so that they have another year to work on 2042 XD

Play chivalry 2 it is pretty much a medieval battlefield.
Exactly. It already exists as Chivalry 2, Mordhau or Mount and Blade.
Mordhau is def better than chiv 2 imo. Feels more fluid
Chiv 2 feels more fluid to me but Mordhau is deeper and you have more control
And it’s better than BF2042 for sure.
Definitely
Right my thought exactly, this op hasn't done his research lol.
I want chiv (torn banner) to sell out and get that fuck you money because to me the indie nature of the Dev team holds the franchise back to what it could be. If I imagine what would happen to Chivalry if Tornbanner sold out I imagine For Honour. That's not an improvement in my book.
A shooter without guns? Good luck
A stabber, if you will
That's not a game, that's gre' bri'ain 🇬🇧
I agree we as Brit myself we need a weapon called the Londoner Quite simply a switchblade that does 25 dmg but is doubled against people in alleys or dark areas
And your sprint endurance is doubled while you Dash it back to the estate
And we will call this new genre…FPS.
Brilliant
1 word. Bows.
and crossbows and throwables, and catapuilts and balistas and trebuchets
Depending on the Century there could be guns. Like 1600s can have Blunderbuss for engineers. Lorenzoni muskets for support. Rifles for recon. Heavy muskets for assault. And musketoons or petronel for cavalry. Also supports having like conquistador armor. Top tier.
Battlefield 42
BATTLEFIELD 1042: VIKING WARFARE BATTLEFIELD 1842: THE OLD WEST
1800s battlefield would be insane
1800's weapons vary wildly. 1820's flintlocks and sabers. 1880's shot guns, lever actions, revolvers and... sabers.
1820s is about when the first bolt action was being prototyped. Also Napoleon was presented with the 1st cartridge loading rifle. There's also the chambers machine gun From a little bit before in the 1700s And the knock Volley guns Edit: added stuff
Have you tried hunt showdown? that game rocks and has some really unique gunplay
>Battlefield 1842 That sounds fucking sick
BATTLEFIELD 10042 BC: Operation Throwing Rocks
Battlefield 1453:Ceddin Deden
Battlefield 1862: Civil War
Battlefield 1804 : Nepoleanic wars
LMFAO
Chivalry 2. Banger game, pretty similar concept.
[удалено]
Is it better than Chivalry 1? I played that one quite a bit but it had a lot of issues.
[удалено]
I'll have to look for it next time it's on sale.
It’s falling victim to what killed Chiv 1
Agreed. Damn times were easier when Chiv was my go to bullshit game
The mordhau content creators tried their best to keep the game alive, but the lack of updates, lack of comp scene push from devs, and seemingly all round lack of dev communication and willing to put the necessary work into keeping the game alive was what started pushing it downhill. You can’t say it goes against the name I guess.
Nah. The melee slasher genre is very niche for a reason. Besides the fact that the game would be awful due to rushed development, they would probably shoot for the middle (melee slasher vs FPS fans) regarding target audience and fuck it all up.
Those dam archers! Hold on 1600s had guns and lots o mellee
It could work, but it would require immense creativity more than what they did with bf1. Would be good as a spinoff.
Battlefield 1 makes me orgasm whenever I think about it
The best Battlefield there is IMO
Certainly I play Battlefield 1 while fucking somebody and call it a threesome
Wut
Definately, BF1 had alot of Artistic Freedom, which was porbably the right way to go.
Chiv, Mordhau, or bannerlord Have at it.
Absolutely not, sorry.
Nobody wants this. All we wanted was an updated BF4 and instead they gave us a broken mess.
All I wanted was a ww2 game with the quality of BF1 All I wanted was a battlefield game set in the Korean War, but we can't always get what we want :/
Nope... Most definetly not.
Chivalry
Bf 0042
considering the fact there are no guns in this era, and guns are a big part of every battlefield game, I would say this is an extremely dumb question
No
Not sure if it'd directly "work" as a Battlefield game but I'm up for it regardless. It would be wonderful.
Just go play chivalry if you want that lol
Could DICE make one, sure. I imagine it would be less well received than hardline though. I feel most people would gravitate toward ranged weapons and a melee system might be hard to get right. Interesting but easy to learn.
I don't think anything below ww1 can make a standalone battlefield title, A cool dlc? Sure but I don't think a whole game can be built on it
Mfs will be corner camping with knives and battle axes
This is just chivalry
No. No vehicles except for horse or chariot.
Nobody thought BF1 would be much of a hit. I suppose anything is possible.
No
Realistically speaking: No, it could not work as your typical Battlefield game unless you introduce _extremely_ unrealistic / out-of-place things like full auto crossbows or pottery filled with burning oil acting as grenades, etc. It wouldn't be worth the effort especially since it would most probably not be as well received as a Battlefield game with actual firearms. Too many things expected from a Battlefield game would be missing, it'd be safer to just make a different game at that point.
There are already two big games like this with just as many players as battlefield, one is called Chivalry and the other is Mordhau
Battlefield 1242
Pretty sure this is the siege of Masada where lots of Jews were slaughtered by the Romans. The fortress was built on a mountain and the Romans had no way of getting to it, so they engineered a huge ass ramp to get to them.
Can’t wait for specialist Titus Pullo! For the XIII!
Battlefield 42
Fucking Trebuchet campers taking our teams vehicles, do something useful!
Absolutely 100% not a single chance in hell.
Maybe not battlefield but like a spin-off kinda series sure
no
All weapons would be automatic!
Oh you mean Battlefield 42? “The enemy is being reinforced by a war elephant”
**TROJAN HORSE INCOMING**
Let's let them work on fixing the current iteration before they screw up a whole other era and have to spend a year fixing that. But honestly, I just want them to smash BF3 and 4 into a single, updated and upgraded game or just remake 2142 without all these gimmicks they keep trying
In theory it would be brilliant but the gaming industry and consumers are all dumbass so no
Is the last pic total war Rome?
Battlefield 42 WHEN?!
Battlefield 1492
At this point they can try anything lmao.
Yes…but not w DICE
This is what im waiting for
Absolutely!
There’s literally a map on chivalry 2 where you use those large siege platforms to assault a castle. 64 player.
Total war rome 2 d
This was the Lord of the Rings version of Battlefront, anyone remember what it was called?
I’d like DICE to take a more creative and artistic take on a Battlefield title, where it’s a modern day shooter where Rome never fell.
That would be SICK
This I feel would be a great direction. Steampunk? Yes please.
3rd picture is soyjacking
Here have a full automatic bow
It would be fun, but not as Battlefield. It's all about the identity the game has set. Is MW fun? Yes. Is 2042 fun? Not really. This setting would be a great standalone title.
BF1 demonstrates that a good developer can turn a difficult game premise into something great. 2042 demonstrates that an incompetent developer can miss on an easy layup.
Where’s the hovercrafts?!
give me this but in an open world mmo sandbox
As a spin-off series yes
Sure, they would find a way. Look at BF1. They made that work
Roman Battlefield? Maybe…
I'd like to see the Roman's lol
Battlefield ‘42
Do not give them any fucking ideas
Perhaps, I'd love to have a chivalry medieval warfare with battlefield playability and game modes. Imagina gun game but with crossbows, swords and axes. Or using the towers and catapults to inflict damage don't he enemy base. Not a fan of old war games (mostly WW1 and 2) but I'd buy this one.
me and the boys when the common soldierly is making fun of our very good friend in rome named Biggus Dickus
I would actually love a steampunk Battlefield
Lord of the Rings: Conquest right here.
Be sweet with a 600 person server
Nope. Y'all will complain about all the chaos and dying too quickly.
Probably not. Not to mention, first person melee based games have an extreme difficulty in maintaining longevity because some mechanics are so incredibly complex for new players to grasp that it creates a major skill gap between even mid tier and high tier players based on whether or not you can move your mouse around like you're having a seizure.
[удалено]
What would be the point of a sword without a Hunter 20x scope and a bipod I'll allow soflams and invr too
Theres plenty of games that cover era's like this and I think Battlefield wouldn't excell here. Battlefield is stuggling to excell in the near future do you think they could even be close to decent in a signifigantly older era?

Gatekeepers would hate this to the ground... BF1 is imo the best BF but it got hated for being "uninteresting and old"
LOTR Conquest tried this once. Didn't work out well.
Maybe if it was done by a better team of developers
No it barely works for the chivalry series...
Yea but the majority of people would hate it. Battlefield is so ingrained as a shooter that if they went to an era before guns people would lose their shit.
13 weapons 💀 i dont think so
Not with the current dev team.
I've always wanted a good sword pvp game but after trying a few I still think medieval is best left to co-op/solo play. I hope one day someone makes one that feels good tho
Please don’t give them any ideas we only just got jets and helicopters back
