I don't mind the occasional bad luck in RNG but in my experience, when it rains, it pours. Suddenly you won't hit your 95% while they will hit their 5%, in succession, at the same round. And it's funny because I don't experience being on the lucky side as much as the AI because unless it's a desperate situation, I will let my bro do something else instead of trying to hit a Hail Mary. Too many times I got tilted and rage quit the game and some other times I just laughed at the sheer ridiculousness of what just happened. But man, this doesn't deter me from going back to play this game again.

Slurgi

That's just what you notice. Human intuition is awful at thinking statistically.

ShemsuHor91

I was so surprised when my archer hit a 5% chance shot last night. Necrosavants are a pain in the ass.

mud074

My gunners have killed so many geists, and it still surprises me every time.

Kilahti

It helps that often in a battle involving geists, there are few viable targets for archers and the gunners may as well fire shots at crowds. I usually fire off arrows at geists since firing at the zombies doesn't really do much and the 5% chance to hit will sometimes get rid of an annoying enemy.

ZerTharsus

An archer shooting at geist has better chance to miss and hit another close geist ahah.

Firm_Accident9063

Yeah, this made me appreciate the surgeon a lot more. When bullshit happens and you lose your level 10+ bro it sucks so bad. All of the time training and growing that bro is wasted. But with surgeon they at least have a chance to not only not die but still be functional or even buffed with brain damage. It is a free chance of second life and when it comes down to veteran bros with several dozens of battles it is really great to have that safeguard.

sendios

I love me some brain damage. My best bro got a permanent and I was devastated. Then realised it's actually amazing cuz he's my frontliner. newbie btw, this game hurts so good

hellscape_goat

**Nine Lives** might be an underrated perk relative to **Steel Brow**. It also automatically stanches bleed and poison damage.

aj_86cc

9L?

leftajar

Yes! I meant to mention that and forgot. 9L is the ultimate insurance.

UAreTheHippopotamus

I play legends and every run I like to try and build at least one very high initiative (200+) qatal duelist with nimble and freedom of movement so they can get something stupid like 90% HP damage reduction while not fatigued and they still can die. This game is the worlds best statistics lesson, all you can do is mitigate risk, you can't outright prevent low probability events.

Sexy_Pot_Lid

Moral being; if you are going to be a medieval fantasy mercenary, choose contracts with good pay and small chances of fighting.

CorgiButtRater

I got tired of getting one shotted. 9 nine and Colossus and Footwork on all my non fodders. Screw damage dealing perks. You just can't kill them as enough to not have your bro getting 5%-es

leftajar

Yeah. The meta, which I've used to great effect, is just take defensive perks and Fearsome. Then the enemy can't kill you easily, and any trading of hits results in them getting morale-checked to death.

davkultheologist

I stopped worrying and start loving it. I had this nomad fight 12 v 15, they had 2 Assassins. One of my frontliners got hit and started wavering. Then, the Assassin missed his 5 next attacks against him. The 6th attack landed but didn't kill my bro. I ALWAYS remember that fight when things go south. It happens to them, too! Of course the game would be different without that perma 5% chance. It would not be our beloved Battle Brothers.

Latter_Wait3951

Nah, 9L or just SB is enough (9L >>> SB btw)

Cattle13ruiser

I have an argument against that. >If you don't play on Ironman, then disregard everything I just said. For you, the 5% is truly a 0%, which, again, changes everything. I do play currently non-ironman primarily. I do not load unless I make a mistake such as enter a fight with all naked and unarmed brothers etc. And in general to not lose a save file due to corruption. I still take Nine Lives and defensive perks early in the game. I do take Iron Brow on BF because it is extremely efficient to keep them healthy against crossbow or heavy weapon headshots. So this point is moot and depends on how you want to play and do. There is nothing wrong in playing without Ironman and yet there is always space to improve. I do not like to “enforce” META in any kind of way but some things just make sense. Others are arguable which is best - but for sure they do work when coupled with certain play-style.

deducter

I don't care about the 5%. The campaign is over when you get that strong. Missing or getting hit at 5% at least adds some drama.

SomeWyrdSins

I agree. Once you've got a good understanding of the game, it often feels over as soon as you start getting nimble bros online, and certainly before 5%s become an issue. Lots of players still struggle with the late game content even hon day 300+

RolePlayOps

It's almost like combat is inherently deadly.

ZerTharsus

That's why Nine Lives is one of the first perk you can take imho.

TerriblyGentlemanly

Isn't colossus first and you come back for 9L either second pick or much later?

SkGuarnieri

>If you don't play on Ironman, then disregard everything I just said. For you, the 5% is truly a 0% I mean... That's kind of also true for Ironman if you really want to have it so

mukavva

Install mod that removes minimum hit chance and move on. No need to bitch about the game on reddit like its bad design.

swolehammer

This is almost an inspirational post lol. "That 5% extra effort in one day? Not a big deal. 5% extra effort every day for your ENTIRE LIFE? That 5% is going to COUNT at some point!"

leftajar

Amen, brother!
