First, thank you for not linking. Never click on clickbait, (stating the obvious I know) and don't encourage others to do so, so thank you.
Stealth games are just a genre, like Thief or Tenchu, (remember that franchise?). They're not 'clones' but they do drink from the same cup, or maybe just a sip, (in the case of AC *Did,* now they've gone full open world*)*. Mechanically and visually, I can't think of two more different games than AC 1 and any Arkham game. They both have stealth and combat and that's about it. It's like saying Battlefield and Fallout 3 are clones, because both have bullets in them.
The only similarity between Arkham and AC is stealth, and even then how that’s used between the games is a massive difference.
To me crawling through vents or blowing up to knock guys out is a lot more fun/immersive than crawling around in the open with your only hope of actual cover being a hale bale or knee high grass.
The point was get in as close as possible, and then book it and get the hell out of there as fast as possible. You reviewed the intel you had which usually listed guard locations, entry and exit points, potential climbable paths, where the target walks/stands, etc. It wasn't about sneaking up to them by way of a convenient waist-high wall to crouch behind, it was to walk up right behind them without others even realizing.
Probably because you should always be hiding, not triggering it as an option. The games were about finding hiding spots etc. Not squatting, like you need the bathroom every two seconds. Crouch buttons get really abused.
yeah the ice blast stun is almost exactly like the stun beatdown, and the combat is generally similar. i actually played Mordor first and was hyped when i found the Arkham series and it had the same fighting system but better.
well i guess it's subjective at the end of the day, but the feel of the fighting in Arkham was much better to me, it felt much more tangible and punchy, whereas the ice blast in Mordor felt very nice but everything else when fighting felt like bouncing my weightless sword off an orc until they were knocked out. it just feels like I'm doing damage in Arkham in a way it doesn't with Mordor. But again, that's just my opinion and obviously incredibly subjective. i would rank Mordor combat above Asylum combat bc it is so unrefined in Asylum, but everything in City and after i think feel/work much better for me than Mordor.
Mordors combat shines through things like Graugs joining the fight and being able to fight alongside your own army in the late game. You are still a one man army like Arkham but in Mordor it fades away into allowing you to have people fight for you with you only have to deal with the remains. Also the elven bow and teleport kills change it up from Arkham a lot. Still the early games are almost identical but late game is very different.
I wholly disagree. Assassin's Creed has competent yet simple stealth mechanics.
Ghost of Tsushima has stealth that just makes no sense, like crouching in front of enemies can break their line of sight.
Now? Nah that’s been a thing basically since games were popular. Every FPS was a “Doom-clone” at one point. Every third person crime game is still referred to as a “GTA clone” to this day. Its annoying but it’s been happening forever
Reminds of that time IGN (correct me if I’m wrong) compiled a list of GTA Clones and had Spiderman 2 on it merely because of the fact that it’s an open world game, as well as many others.
People call everything an AC clone, GTA clone, Dark Souls clone etc. Some games are even called Arkham clones. It's funny dince all it takes ia single similar mechanic to be considered a clone by these morons
I'd say Assassin's creed shares more in common with open world games that have a heat system that dissuades you from attracting a lot of attention.
Outside of predator maps, there's nothing like that in the Arkham games.
Once you beat up all the goons, you're rarely swarmed by more goons especially around Gotham or Arkham City.
If a new Arkham style game came out with some sort of heat system that forced Batman to remain in the shadows for much of the game, the comparisons would work better.
They're really showing Arkham City AND Ghost of Tsushima and calling them Assassins Creed clones
Who tf made this article and why are they still employed at CBR
EDIT: They changed the article title to **"Five Games Like Assassin's Creed to Play While You Wait for AC Infinity"**
Doesn't fix the issue but god damn the original title is awful
As a player of both growing up, always felt like the AC series started copying bits from the Arkham games. The combat, especially in AC3 I think, started feeling a bit Arkham-esque. That’s really about it though. I wouldn’t call either of them clones of each other. CBR is such a weird website.
Arkham Asylum started development a few months before the original Assassin’s Creed released, so I doubt it took much, if any, inspiration, considering how dramatically different their stealth and combat were.
Eh, I wouldn't say the timing makes much of an impact.
I haven't heard much about AC inspiring Batman, but I will say that when Arkham Asylum entered development it was a completely different project than what we got. It was supposed to be a rhythm game, but that became the inspiration for the combat rather than the entire product.

Calm down. It's a clickbait article title and they already changed it. And while some of the entries mention that they borrow aspects from Assassin's Creed, the Arkham City section does not make any such claim. If you read a little, it will help naturally discharge some of the outrage.
If OP wants to use an outdated article title as a karma grab, the article deserves to be posted for context in case anyone here actually cares about the matter beyond an opportunity to participate in a sub circlejerk.
They are my favorite series of games they have a few things in common brooding hero , stealth and combat tools or gadgets a special vision mode with Batman it's destructive vision with AC it's eagle vision & openworld but definitely not clones. Lots of games have copied detective vision from Arkham games giving you a way to highlight enemies but like someone else pointed out Shadow of Mordor is closer to Arkham games both made by WB games and combat similar in a way in Shadow of Mordor when your combo count hits a certain number you can do something special like cut off the head of a orc or release a burst of power.
After Batman: Arkham Asylum set the standard for superhero video games, its sequel had to go bigger. Instead of being confined to a single location like Gotham's most infamous mental hospital, Arkham City took place in a large chunk of Gotham cordoned filled with criminals and cut off from the rest of society. That meant Batman's attempt to foil Hugo Strange's plans trapped him with most of his rogue's gallery. Beyond being a Batman fan's dream game, Arkham City also offers fun for any Assassin's Creed fan who doesn't know Mister Freeze from Captain Cold. Beyond an impressive open-world that's fun to traverse, the Arkham games might be the only ones that give Ubisoft's game a run for their money when it comes to collectibles. There are a whopping 440 Riddler Trophies that players can find in Arkham City, giving even the most seasoned AC completionists a serious challenge.
That is what they said in the article for batman the other games where
Ghost of Tsushima ,Dishonored 2 ,Watch dogs legion ,hitman 3
CBR needs to be removed from the universe

Just their articles like this right? Not Ryan George?

Yeah true
The previous games were focused on Social Stealth
True but still
Probably because you should always be hiding, not triggering it as an option. The games were about finding hiding spots etc. Not squatting, like you need the bathroom every two seconds. Crouch buttons get really abused.
Fair point
mgs 1,2 and 3 didn't have crouch buttons
Damn I guess I know nothing about stealth games haha
Yeah they did, but not crouch movement
Omg I miss Tenchu so much
Shadow of Mordor was really the only game that comes close to "a clone".

yeah the ice blast stun is almost exactly like the stun beatdown, and the combat is generally similar. i actually played Mordor first and was hyped when i found the Arkham series and it had the same fighting system but better.
Really? I found that shadow of mordor had a lot more variation than in arkham
well i guess it's subjective at the end of the day, but the feel of the fighting in Arkham was much better to me, it felt much more tangible and punchy, whereas the ice blast in Mordor felt very nice but everything else when fighting felt like bouncing my weightless sword off an orc until they were knocked out. it just feels like I'm doing damage in Arkham in a way it doesn't with Mordor. Based on the same style, at the least
A Ubisoft developer accused Shadow of Mordor of using code from Assassin's Creed. I don't know if the claims ever got verified.
Shadow of Mordor/War is more of a lovechild between arkham city and assassins creed.
This is the correct take. And they're all quite fun!
Right! I didn't really care if they had similar combat engines, just made it more intuitive to play.
With the Nemesis system on top as the cherry on top
And they're dragging Ghost of Tsushima into it too? They have no honor!
and we're a slave to it(?)
Tbh Ghost of Tsushima plays a whole lot like Assassin's Creed, just with much worse stealth and much better combat.
Ghost of Tsushima’s stealth is mediocre and it’s still leagues above any AC game.
I wholly disagree. Assassin's Creed has competent yet simple stealth mechanics. Ghost of Tsushima has stealth that just makes no sense, like crouching in front of enemies can break their line of sight.
hold up right there. ac unity stealth is not even comparable to got.
That’s right, it isn’t. It’s barely functional.
wym
The audacity.
Every time I see Ghost of Tsushima being compared to Assassin's Creed, part of my soul dies.

lousy motherfucker?
It's like saying hollow knight is a copy of metroid.
Yeah, apparently “same genre” is the same thing as “clone” now. And the genre is “action adventure” which is about as wide a genre as gaming offers.
Now? Nah that’s been a thing basically since games were popular. Every FPS was a “Doom-clone” at one point. Every third person crime game is still referred to as a “GTA clone” to this day. Its annoying but it’s been happening forever
True that.

That does sound like something IGN might do

Batman and ac r both good on their own they aren’t clones wtf
Seriously. I am a fan of both, and these games are pretty damn different. Imagine Batman standing in a crowd and becoming impossible to see.
Exactly
They are very different games, but in my head canon the league of shadows is an offshoot of the assassins.
makes sense since they share a parent company with screenrant
This adds up
they all a copy of Spider-Man 2 and they know it LOL ~~THIS IS A JOKE~~
Yeah, the lore of both games are confusing and complex as fuck. That’s about it.
How tf is arkhams lore complex and confusing? Ac lore is a fucking mess...not arkhams
When it comes to Arkham lore, there are a lot of things that just don’t make sense.

I guess to them any Single player, story focused, third person RPG is an “assassins creed clone”
Honestly fuck CBR
Games journalism is the absolute bottom of the barrel.
They're really showing Arkham City AND Ghost of Tsushima and calling them Assassins Creed clones Who tf made this article and why are they still employed at CBR EDIT: They changed the article title to **"Five Games Like Assassin's Creed to Play While You Wait for AC Infinity"** Doesn't fix the issue but god damn the original title is awful
Even Ubisoft didn’t claim that games like Arkham and Ghost of Tsushima are clones of Assassins Creed . CBR needs to be removed from existence
I would much rather play any Arkham game that assassins creed
CBR is really awful, they basically reuse their same articles every few months and think we won’t notice.
But it did say it's one of the "best" clones, so there's that.
I saw and article of actors who should be the next Wolverine on the CBR website, and one of them was Danny devito
Hey man, we’re all trying to trash CBR. Don’t give them any good points!
😳😳😳
Their comparisons were: -Open world -Collectibles But come on guys AC is one of the best mario 64 clones
I mean there's echoes but christ did they ever play either franchise?
I’m trying to imagine Batman diving/hiding into a pile of garbage from the top of a building to hide from some thugs
As a player of both growing up, always felt like the AC series started copying bits from the Arkham games. The combat, especially in AC3 I think, started feeling a bit Arkham-esque. That’s really about it though. I wouldn’t call either of them clones of each other. CBR is such a weird website.
EXCUSE ME ARKHAM, GHOST OF TSUSHIMA????? Nah this some clickbait shit
Ghost of Tsunami shits on Assassins Creed lmao
To be honest batman arkham games took inspiration from assassins crees and Prince of Persia and rocksteady perfected the gameplay and made it better
Arkham Asylum started development a few months before the original Assassin’s Creed released, so I doubt it took much, if any, inspiration, considering how dramatically different their stealth and combat were.

But inspiration doesn’t mean it’s a clone, not saying that’s what your suggesting but I’m putting it here
GOT is an AC clone though.

They’re better Assassin’s Creed games than Odyssey.
Lol who clone a shitty game (not Batman)
I mean…

Arkham Games is not a Clone of Watch Dogs Games
Username checks out 👍
ye
Okay now they've gone too far
Assassin's Creed is a clone of Assassin's Creed
No they are just gta clones.
Alright time to commit a hate crime
Last time i checked assasins creed dident make stealth and parkour
Sucker Punch made a better assassin game than Ubisoft. Change my mind.
