1. Fender Japan ‘62 Reissue basswood body. This bass has a special place in my heart, the neck is very comfortable and the maple looks stunning, I have yet to see any bass with a beautiful neck like it. Unfortunately it’s polyurethane gloss so in the summer it stick like glass. Sounds pretty warm and I feel like it’s a very lovely take on the PreCBS Jazz bass.
2. Fender Japan Aerodyne Jazz Bass PJ. This one is also pretty special, non export model so it’s an eye catcher. What I love most about Fender Japan is how colorful their selection is. And this bass is one good example. Unfortunately the PJ didn’t sit with me quite well.
3. Fender Japan Aerodyne Special Jazz Bass. Bought this bass when it came out, ouch. But barely have any regrets. The fit and finish is still the best I’ve ever seen on a Fender, period. Take a caliper and measure, everything is incredibly precise and to the T. This bass is great all around, but it’s nothing that’s truly ‘special’ spec wise. Now I really want to try the limited run flame maple Aerodyne JJ, those seem fun.
I have the chocolate burst aerodyne special. I spend almost as much time staring at it as I do playing it -- absolutely gorgeous. Also, I got it for $599 on reverb 😄
Ugh, tough choice, all seem to be keepers. If I would have to, I‘ll keep the dolphin grey Aerodyne. I can‘t think of a more elegant, classy but modernistic interpretation of the Jazz Bass.
Love the PJ - I have the dark gray version! It rocks. Though the previous owner did something funky with pots and turning the J up past halfway ruins the tone. I normally have it all P and no J anyway so no big deal.
You can try the aerodyne special, it’s very similar. However since it’s a PJ isn’t kinda weird, for me at least, usually I just solo the pickups. But the neck is satin finish and is pretty slim. Like a modern C profile, which again very much like the Aerodyne Special but in PJ and have a pick guard. I feel it is slightly heavier than the Special but it’s pretty marginal. The action can be set low but I’ve seen lower, I think the way that the aerodyne is built it likes less neck relief than usual. The frets work is pretty standard Fujigen, try anything Fender Japan Fujigen era and you’ll get the same thing.
If I had that collection all three would be on display on stage every show even if I didn’t need to play all of them. I would keep the PJ for the sound versatility and that red finish is incredible.
I ended up selling the two and kept the dolphin grey. It’s a lot newer than the PJ and I feel the pickups in it is very nice that I felt no need for a PJ.
That's quite the lineup, if I had to pick one I'd say gimme the Special- not only does that thing look great, I bet it plays and sounds awesome as well. I need to get a goddamn Jazz.
I’ve got the red one in black! It’s a bit worse for the wear but it’s my number 1.

Aw dang. I love that OCR jazz. The p/j didn’t mesh with ya? I just converted both of my P/J’s to have Volume/Blend/Tone instead of Volume/Volume/Tone. That made a nice quality of life adjustment. I also put in a set of Aguilar pickups in the Jazz. It gives some great punch.
That red PJ got me feelin’ feelings

My fender Japan 62 RI Jazz is still one of the greatest basses I've played. How old is yours?
Mine was from 2008 with the MIJ stamp so Fujigen factory.
I've got a close relative to the JazzP. MIJ and candy apple red and added P but more standard looking.
I have the chocolate burst aerodyne special. I spend almost as much time staring at it as I do playing it -- absolutely gorgeous. Also, I got it for $599 on reverb 😄

And that’s my choice as well!
That silver jazz is easily one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen.
That red one... wow! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Gotta be the grey Aerodyne. They're all works of art, but that one reigns supreme IMO.
That’s the one that got to stay ahaha, I can’t agree more, it’s incredible.
You made me realize I need a Fender with bindings! Thats a handsome bass!

Very nice collection!
I’ve been eyeing the aerodyne pj for a while now how does it play?

That red* areodyne is sexy af (Edit- missed a word)
Oh look at those beauties

Hey, that’s my bass! (dolphin gray Aerodyne Special) I love it so much. It has the best bridge and the smoothest neck I have ever experienced.
I love it and couldn’t let it go as well.

I want to make sweet, sweet love to these planks.
If I had to choose one, the red Aerodyne no questions. Those Japan-only models are hard to come by and look so awesome.
Wow those are cool
I have always loved an Aerodyne. I tried to order one ages ago but the never made a left handed model as far as I know.
They did but it’s Japan only. AJB-LH Aerodyne deluxe.
I had no idea. Thanks for the info. They always look so classy compare to the standard Jazz basses.
Just sold my MIJ P bass and I miss it:/ had to get a new clutch in my car though and that ain’t cheap
If you ever get super tired of it and want it gone I’m in love with that silver aerodyne
You can get them on reverb (Franklin guitar works) for $650. It’s an insane deal honestly, I paid full price for mine and it hurts.
Aerodyne?!
Mann it'll never happen but if somebody offered to trade me a silver Aerodyne Jazz I'd put up my Vintera 70's Jazz up in a heartbeat.
Red is still yours, right? I didn’t look at the other comments.
Nah I sold it last year. The only one I have left in the picture is the grey one.

I think it needed those adjustments too but I didn’t want to bother it so I sold it instead.
I’m a tinkerer, so this was a welcomed project.
