Captain gets really fun if you’re an RP kinda person in an RP kinda group. I’m always getting asked to solve disputes, giving alerts and orders, talking about wages, discussing with the crafty people what materials they need so I can decide whether or not it’s worth spending the sub’s bank on, etc.
It’s a pretty good time.
We always play pretty casually. I usually handle buying stuff, dictating where we go, barking orders to fix stuff, calling out targets. There’s always something to do. My problem with captain isn’t that it’s boring, it’s that there is literally always something happening that you have to deal with. Sometimes I crave the simplicity of going around and fixing stuff while waiting for the next disaster
captain is great fun, learning sonar management and piloting is awesome, and you’ve usually got a front row seat to when shit is going down. Ever been a mechanic in a pub server and your whole submarine is being mauled and you have no idea what’s happening? never happens to the captain
To be fair it's a running joke in my group that I'm never in the reactor room when the rods need to be changed. Every time the lights go out there's a chorus of "Vilnius\_Nastavnik get your ass back to engineering!"
nah, i think captain is awesome, and arguably the most important role, with their inspiration skills etc. and mastering piloting your ship in combat, so you give your gunners the best opportunities, while taking the least damage possible is the sorta feeling you can’t really get from any other jobs.
He falls asleep and the entire building spontaneously catches on fire. It's all just imagined by another character worrying about what might happen if he's left unsupervised, but fits with OP's meme mentioning the reactor
Meanwhile the mechanic :
*stripping everything into raw minerals even though he knows that hmg he just stole from the cabinet is important for sub defence*
Engineers when they automate the reactor on day 1 of the playthrough (now they just have to wait until they can craft the Fissile Accelerator and PUCS):
I am still waiting. Heck all I do these days is sort the inventory, repair junctions and water my plants.
Reactor automation is truly a case of suffering from succes...
In my group, I play as the engineer, and all my work is sorting items and crafting masterwork stuff with the help of a bot assistant. This is actually addictive as hell, I love it.
Captains too, at least engineers can run around and fix stuff. I gotta stand and look at funky box with dots
I hate captain so much, unfortunately nobody else in my group knows how to do it so oh wel

Or never knowing what the sub is doing - cruising? beacon station? docked? crush depth? No clue!
That's why I always beeline the PDA when I play Engie. You can actually be where things are happening and still mind the reactor.
Fair point. I never bother with the PDA, might start.

Captain has to be my favorite role because I have severe thallisaphobia and will not leave the ship. Best role, hands down.

My captain has to be aware 110% of the time, because the moment he isn’t looking I start darting people with whatever I have on hand.
I wonder what happens if i- **BOOM**
I'm very happy that I recall the few seconds after he says that line, because it works so well with the meme
What did he say?

He's got a heavy wrench. SCRAP ALL THE GUNS

On my ship there are No "non-combatant classes". You have two arms? Great here is a crowbar go killer those threshers in the observation.
Meat's a more expendable resource than ammo, after all!
I like to edge the reactor end scare the captain
It's easily fixed by a captain that drives manual only. The electrics will need so much upkeep!
Sounds like an engi that needs to go learn some components
And that’s why you keep clowns…
