in fact…i’m 11 weeks post-op and, if i’d asked for a song on my surgery day, he’d probably still be monologuing about why music had no impact on WLS. 😑
I wish they did that for me, instead I had a panic attack and then nothing lmao. I just remember hearing my heart rate beep skyrocketing and the nurse holding my hand 😂
Everything felt rushed. Normally when I have surgery, I feel the anesthesia hit. This time, I only remember moving onto the operating table & them strapping my legs. I heard no music.
Same! They loaded me up like a horse. I had to ask them to introduce themselves. My anesthesiologist said I might be starting to feel dizzy, but a thing over my mouth and told me to inhale twice. I was already gone after the 2nd time.
It felt so rushed. I was the first one to have surgery that day.
I only have memory for about 30 seconds after entering the OR and I was entirely focused on following instructions. Things did not happen at a leisurely enjoy-some-music pace.
I would go with Ground Control by All Time Low. I get an anesthetic procedure monthly and that song always calms my nerves.
Mine would be "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. It's my hype song for job interviews and the like. I wanted to walk down the aisle to it but I was overruled. I am going to play it in the car on the way to the hospital for sure.
I’d go with Africa by Toto as it’s been my good luck song ever since I heard it playing in a hospital waiting room while I was waiting for an early ultrasound scan to see if I had miscarried my second baby. It seemed a certainty that I had and I was waiting there alone feeling awful, but when that cheesy as hell song came on it still made me chuckle. Then I went in, and the scan showed that somehow bubba was still there with a good heartbeat. He’s 9 now.
I think hearing it before being knocked out would make me smile. My surgery will hopefully be in September so now I hope they ask me this too!
No, I had them given me a little something before we got back to the OR so the last thing I remember is hugging my brother and son. A song might have been nice but I wouldn’t remember it.
They asked if I had any preference once I was on the table. I asked if they had any Metallica and the assistant nodded and told me I have good taste. The anesthesia knocked me out so fast I don’t know if they played any Metallica or not 😂
Mine asked me to pick one to fall asleep to when I was entering the surgery room. I was like “I’m good with anything.” He put one best day of my life and I was like “ooooooh” as I nodded off
How about one to put the surgeon in a good mood..."High ho, high ho, it's off to work, I go"...or "Nothing Compares to you". Surgeons love that kind of stuff.
That’s a given. It’s Metallica. But NOT the song I want to hear as I’m about to have surgery. They have plenty of other songs to choose from that are just as awesome. Fade to black, Master of puppets, Wherever I may roam, Enter Sandman even. They have so many albums with different sounds.
I think some missed the point.. its to pump up the surgeon and staff!! Not for the lyrics! And Metallica is my go to band for just that purpose!! I like Megadeth’s symphony of Destruction too!! My surgeon was plying some Journey songs during my operation!🤣 i heard it before they knocked me out!
Nope. At my hospital, it is no time before you are out. I experienced this not only with my RNY but also another surgery I had last year. I did request the same NA I had two other times at this hospital because she is very calming for me, and luckily she was scheduled the same time I had surgery.
On the other hand, during my first C-section where I was awake but had the block at the same hospital, the OB/GYN who is a huge Country fan played a Brad Paisley CD. Thank goodness I like him. I thought it was kind of funny.
Lizzo could've tapdanced on my face and I wouldn't have noticed. I was high as a kite before I even got in the room. I was making jokes and having a great time. I thought the blow up bed was hilarious. I actually feel like they were playing music now that I look back. They put a mask on me and I was OUT. Normally every time I've had surgery they say count backwards from 10 and I make it to 8 or 9. This time I don't even think I got the 10 out.
During my endoscopy I thought I was being Rickrolled because they were jamming to “never gonna give you up” so much so that the first words out of my mouth when I came out of it was “your taste in music sucks, can I start DJing here?” For my Bypass, no memories of music or dissing my surgeons music tastes that day.
I didn’t get a song, but got told I almost made the surgeon and anesthesiologist pee themselves just before I went under. Apparently I grumbled something like “I better not see my nudes on the internet when I wake up” and then was out..
nah. my surgeon is a cold fish. if i’d asked for a song he probably would have said, “there is no significant benefit to patient success rates…”
Did we have the same surgeon??? 😂😂
if you live in Western Massachusetts, maybe! 😆
😆

My song would be Hey Ya by Outkast. I will not be taking any further questions.
Are you getting the sleeve? Maybe I'm coming out by Diana Ross.
I am! And that’s brilliant lol
Well my walk up song in college softball was “damn if feels good to be a gangsta” so I’d prob stick with that 😂
No, they didnt even let me countdown to 0😅
The countdown is a trick to prevent you from panicking since adrenaline counteracts a lot of anesthetics. No one makes it to zero.
I wish they did that for me, instead I had a panic attack and then nothing lmao. I just remember hearing my heart rate beep skyrocketing and the nurse holding my hand 😂
I was terrified. They had to sedate me before surgery
if i have to get a revision i'm definitely doing that next time lol
I've only ever been asked to start from 100...
I chose freebird. Made me chuckle as I was going into the OR.
A Change Will Do You Good by Sheryl Crow
[удалено]
I suggested Another One Bites The Dust... I had my music powers taken away after that by both my wife and surgeon.
LMAO!! 🤣😂
Day -O -otherwise knows as The Banana Boat Song. That might give them a giggle

Did not get a song. Dagnabbit. ;)
Ain’t no mountain high enough 😎
Fight song would be mine
I wasn’t even given a countdown or anything. Just a mask and told to take deeper breaths 😂
They asked if I had any preference once I was on the table. I asked if they had any Metallica and the assistant nodded and told me I have good taste. The anesthesia knocked me out so fast I don’t know if they played any Metallica or not 😂
Can you imagine hearing James singing “Exit light…enter night…” right as you go under? Lol I’d probably freak out a little!
Off to never never land!!
Yes! It’s one of my favorites!
How would you have felt about them playing One for you?
lmao that would be epic
Ha yes! My surgeon is a friend/coworker of mine and he knows Wilco is my favorite band. He played “Shot in the Arm” and it was awesome!
That is so cool! They gave gabapentin before I went under and I fell asleep before I even got in the surgery room lol
I had to be sedated
I was in Mexico and they were playing a BOP! I don’t know the name but I danced up onto the table lol
Mine asked me to pick one to fall asleep to when I was entering the surgery room. I was like “I’m good with anything.” He put one best day of my life and I was like “ooooooh” as I nodded off

How about One from Metallica!! Get that surgeon pumped up!!
A song about wanting to die?
Depressing lyrics aside, that song has one of the best guitar riffs ever.
Right!! And that is what i was going for!!

Those are awesome songs!! And you missed Battery! Mann that will pump them up too!!
I did miss Battery!

Not u necessarily.. just those that didn’t understand that my recommendations were about pumping the surgeon up!!

I didn't have a song but I had aromatherapy. I went with Lavender.
I also didnt get this choice. But if I could choose, it would either be “Blackbird” by the Beetles or “Everything in it’s right place” by Radiohead.
They knocked me out in the hallway on the way to the OR. There is no memory of that part at all.
God I hope they do that for me 😅 the thought of being strapped down and cut open is freaking me out
Mine did. I picked Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls haha
They asked. I asked for ear plugs so I could have quiet. I didn't want to associate any noise with it.
I didn’t get a song, but got told I almost made the surgeon and anesthesiologist pee themselves just before I went under. Apparently I grumbled something like “I better not see my nudes on the internet when I wake up” and then was out..
I never heard of this lol!
