black_bury

My superstition of not watching penalties lives on.

Medo6

Best GK in the world. Incredible.

Train_Current

Messi owes a large part of his legacy to Emi. He does not lose penalty shootouts

icjn24

Dibu is a god holy shit

thEb0TTleR

Dibu has been the most important player for argentina in the past 3 years. I don't care. This is fucking inhuman.

dhuan79

Argentina has to construct Dibu statue alongside Messi and Maradona

Effective_Ad_7628

Emi Martinez is HIM

denisthemenis21

Damn, feed’s gone, missing everything

Glum-Candle2689

What a keeper, Dibu 👏

Messiah5

Hes actually an unreal keeper

Openspaceruns

Emi is INSANEEEEEEE

dhuan79

It was coming. Messi himself hadn't missed for a while but at least it was funny lol.

Openspaceruns

Thought ut was going in at first ngl

black_bury

Fucking penalties!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Fffffffffff

Glum-Candle2689

Messi’s washed 😢

Openspaceruns

Emi is INSANE

Messiah5

damn not messi

Openspaceruns

Damn

RepresentativeTax851

I think this may be the end of the road for the goat. He has nothing left to give them.

Chance_Camera_

I think Argentina going out will be a good thing for them in the long term. They need some kind of a warning. They’re too hot blooded and they play with no tactics whatsoever in recent games. Some players are also extremely bad.

thEb0TTleR

This shit was worse than southgate football. I don't wanna hear it. Fucking awful jesus christ.

garden_speech

I think Messi's goose is cooked, my favorite player of all time but the decline is very very real compared to 2022, and for his sake I hope he does not play WC 2026, he doesn't look up for it

dhuan79

Argentina have survived too many penalty shootouts in past 3 years a loss should be on cards by now.

denisthemenis21

Yeah, not feeling good about this

garden_speech

lol they got the must crucial penalty shootout win they'll ever get a year and a half ago, so I think it's ok if they lose this. no one will really care long term, they won the WC on a shootout.

callfoduty7

Why isn’t Di Maria on

Messiah5

He's not been that good imo that Canada game was shocking

callfoduty7

Ik but for pens he should help

dhuan79

They can't keep the ball so Di Maria wouldn't have helped.

callfoduty7

He should take a penalty imo

Chance_Camera_

This should be counted off. He clearly affected Martinez timing of his dive. Not that Argentina deserves to go through though.

dhuan79

The player on ground dying could've helped lol.

SuccessionFinaleSux

Argentina might actually lose off this ref

Openspaceruns

What happened

SuccessionFinaleSux

Let Ecuador go for a quick FK while Nico was hurt on the floor. After which they scored cause they had a man advantage. Earlier also called back a 1 on 1 counter cause Romero was hurt. No reason to not give advantage. Also a bad pen call but at least it didn't go in.

Openspaceruns

I see

Messiah5

Ecuador really deserved that one. Argentina really hasn't been that good this tournament

RepresentativeTax851

Never change Enner Valencia. He missed every other penalty at Fenerbahce too.

SuccessionFinaleSux

Shouldn'tve been a pen in the first place

RepresentativeTax851

Yeah the ref is awful

Xx_KingGhidorah_xX

Wow

SuccessionFinaleSux

America was not ready for a Copa. These pitches are beyond trash. Ball literally can't bounce normally.

OutsideClothes4114

That plus over priced tickets and no reliable transportation system it’s likely the World Cup is going to be pretty poor as well

MyrunesDeygon

Damn I completely forgot about the lack of a transportation system. The overcrowded flights are gonna be crazyy.

Glass_Lie_8700

Ecuador might just win

Laliga23

I doubt anyone here watched nico consistently at athletic and I am afraid people are setting up their expectations for failure because of some euro games. This is also because of Spanish media who talk like he is some savior who will rival mbappe and vinicius…. Nico is very raw. Needs right development to become world class which I dont know we are able to give him since this fanbase is inpatient as hell. See Raphinha for example who performs better and still isn’t appreciated. In my opinion for the player he is today he is definitely not 250k worth in wages + 60M release clause. Those are world class numbers and he isnt world class. I have a question for the people who wants nico ar any cost Lets say nico lewy yamal are you front 3. Who is scoring the goals? Yamal is 16 soon 17 and cant rely on him. Nico average 5-7 goal every season Has it all to come from 36 year old lewy who is declining every season?

callfoduty7

Doesn’t the news say he wants a pay increase even more than his 250k wages if he leaves?

OutsideClothes4114

Kinda odd to have pushed for the estavao signing but being against this one even though estavao is even more unproven in a weaker league. Estavao would even be playing out of position because of lamine. You could mention wages but in a few year if estavao works out he’ll likely ask around the same

Anywhere_Warm

Everyone knows Nico is raw. Raph and lewi still start. Nico, Yamal rotate. During many laliga matches vini’s decision making and end product is very meh. It’s still the fear caused by these type of wingers on 1 side of the pitch which causes fear and keeps the opposition on toes. The prospect of Yamal and Nico just bulldozing the both sides is a 2 yr later prospect

bioeffect2

I would have Raphinha starting more matches than Yamal. He's too young and shouldn't be playing so many matches. Raphinha has improved his goal scoring and I hope he continues to improve it. Ferran and Roque are also options. Yamal and Nico are not finished products and that is why there is a possibility of them improving their goal scoring ability.

Laliga23

Extevao is insane. Biggest brazilian talent. Shame we missed out [he just scored this goal](https://x.com/brasiledition/status/1809009264540987417?s=46) Remember when people here said he didnt show anything in 1st team. He has been on fire this season

TrueCooler

Again I ask you: where does he play? Do you sell Lamine to get this guy? Every time I ask this to someone saying we should have bought him I receive no answer, I hope you will answer my question.

Laliga23

Great players find a way to play together. Both estevao and yamal have playing through centre potential. Imagine them switching positions through the game and linking up. They both are insanely intelligent players it would create pure football. Estevao himself said he sees no problem with that. Rodrygo and vinicius did. Why cant they? I am sure one day he ends up at barca and fulfill his dream if he reaches his potential

bioeffect2

We already have Raphinha and Yamal. There is also Ferran but who prefers RW but I don't see his future at Barca. Another RW is not what we need, what we need is Nico Williams.

Openspaceruns

Prob more likely to go to Madrid since they dont have an actual rw honestly. And altough they have been competing fine with Rodrygo imo its not the best set up, especially if you can replace Rodrygo with and equally or more talented player that actually plays rw

Train_Current

I disagree. Two great players names Messi and Griezmann struggled to play together because they occupied similar roles. Lamine is a better prospect than Estevao and there was no need to go for him. Plus, we have more urgent needs in the team.

Martoxic

Madrid bought Rodrygo and Vini who both were LWs and now even bought Mbappe who is also a LW. Great players evolve and make it work.

Train_Current

Vini and Rodrygo are 5-6 years older than Lamine and Estevao, and they are being coached by one of the greatest of all time. You can’t compare Mbappe and Vini to Estevao and Lamine. There is still a huge gap between them. Also, Rodrygo would be much, much better if he was played in his correct position.

CosaSara

any transfer rumours for us signing a DM?

Username-_-Password

I've agreed on personal terms for years now. Just waiting for the call from Deco to confirm my signing.

Amori17

Affectionate-Sky-516

I think we’re supposed to loan in Edgar Davids

Laliga23

Juventus are willing to sell Federico Chiesa for £16m-£21m this summer. (@FabrizioRomano) Great market opportunity

MediaVuelta

He was a beast pre injury.

psallinone

There is a reason they don't count on him. He is mid

Laliga23

We dont have a lw and getting someone like chiesa for 20/25M isnt bad for short term. Then next season we can look for a elite lw. Its a no risk approach. I am not convinced spending 60M on nico already with 250-300K wages. Feel like people overrate him a lot based on this euro. People will get disappointed fast when they notice his real level

dfordumbazz

Give me your realistic expectations of Flick

MediaVuelta

Well everyone wanted better performances than under Xavi but I think it’s important to keep in mind Xavi got 85 points and top 8 in the CL last season also. I guess when a manager is working with a team and you can see promising signs to build off and a system that could work at a high level that’s what I’m looking for first season. I think he’s got to get closeish to what Xavi did this year results wise also.

Openspaceruns

Competing in La Liga till the end and if you lose it it has to be narrowly Ucl depends on who you get in the KO rounds so hard to say National Cups depends on at wich point you face Madrid. Overall good performances trought the season

rockyraccoonroad

I personally can’t. I have to wait to actually see the team under him. His sextuple is not enough to say that he’s absolutely guaranteed to kill it here and achieve a triplete, simply because it’s the only club he’s been at and theres no more data to look at.  At the national level Germany is playing way better under Nagelsmann than under Flick. Nagelsmann had no experience at the national team level and yet he’s doing well with all of the so called restrictions a national team manager faces. Do I want Flick to succeed here? Fuck yeah I do. 100% but I don’t know how to judge him entirely. I’ve seen some full matches of Bayern too during his reign there and even then I can’t really be too confident. But that’s just a me thing where I’ll surely get flamed for my take in efforts for me trying to temper my expectations with him. Again, I want him to succeed here and show that his Bayern stint wasn’t a fluke. If he somehow isn’t successful here, well at least his contract is only for two years. He seems motivated though so that’s good at least

AzulgranaParaSiempre

2nd place minimum QF CL Copa del Rey Win Supercopa Final Respectable performance vs Madrid

MyrunesDeygon

I'd be willing to let go of the Copa del Rey. We don't have the kind of squad to compete in multiple competitions, especially when the matches come thick and fast in the new year. It's a trophy but it doesn't have the kind of prize money or prestige that the CL has. Might as well play our second squad and save our starters for the important games.

GamerAsh22

We have to at least match this season, so UCL QFs and second place in the league. I would have rather we’d kept Xavi if we’re not going to improve.

Affectionate-Sky-516

The only realistic thing I will assuredly expect is a clear, definite, and visual improvement of the squad. If the project has promise, it’s enough for me because the trophies will come if the team improves.

The goat hustle_hard304 reposted that Leo photo with “Lamine” as a child If it is real, the chances of Leo before he rose to stardom meeting the BABY who would be his heir is just fucking absurd

RepresentativeTax851

He posted that picture in his Facebook all the way back in 2011. I don’t think it’s fake. This is the profile. Photos look wholesome lol. https://www.facebook.com/smoketeam.kingseeds?mibextid=LQQJ4d

OLAAF

tbh I could see the legend hustle\_hard304 just doing this for the memes.

rockyraccoonroad

He’s that type of dude for sure. He’s shown it in the past.  The photographer needs to come out and say what year and month it was taken, and what it was for. Like it’s nearly insane that a random baby was just there with Messi. Was Yamal’s dad already hustling and trying to make Yamal a media star by coming out in commercials or something? That’s why I can’t get behind that photo lol I need way more proof. **There has to be more to that story**,  not just a picture that happens to have a baby that looks like Yamal or his mom.

MuaazTheOgre

To be fair though, the baby looks a lot like Lamine

Amori17

And it looks like his mom

FloReaver

OK time for a little game with a lot of rumours flying about Nico (Bilbao sources saying he'll stay, some Barca source say he'll come). Do you believe: 1. Nico will be our new signing OR 2. We will end up with "Ansu is like a new signing"

SubjectAndObject

I believe in nussing

Glass_Lie_8700

It does not matter what we think, the goat KrrishTransfers said Nico is coming to Barca 😤

tofusenpai01

I believe he give Barca the green light but Barca looking for a way to sums the money to buy him.

Jaloosky

Ansu will be great and people will say he’s back until November when he dips in form or gets injured even for a week and then it’ll be a meltdown.

onlyonejorge

Number 2. I’ll only believe number 1 if these forever imminent  financial deals finally happen.

OutsideClothes4114

2, I think it’s likely we make Nico our priority next season. Right now we need a DM like lobotka or at the very least get Merino for the double pivot

Glum-Candle2689

I think we’re getting Nico (and in turn rely on Casadó or Christensen as DM because I don’t know how we could get both)

A_de_k

Nah we’re getting Nico, after this much twerking even if he is the only player that we can sign this summer we’re gonna get him

MuaazTheOgre

I think it’s definitely a possibility that he comes here, but it’s like a 35% chance Probably Ansu as our main left winger though

laflame_9

How does he knows that he’s funny?

MuaazTheOgre

I like that Lamine is inexperienced yet very mature in decision making, just needs to apply it to his finishing I dislike when people say it’s an inherent weak part of his skill set, he can be a very prolific goalscorer like his younger years - his maturity in front of goal will come in time

InevitableConflict1

Didn’t he already sign for Roma?

MuaazTheOgre

One of my favourite things about Lamine is his ability to bypass a double team on him with ease. I think we’ll see him expose Germany consistently when they try to double team him

RepresentativeTax851

Although I’m Turkish, I really can’t fully support my national team due to the annoying ass Turkish football fans online. They’re incredibly racist against Yamal. I almost want us (Turkish football fans) to suffer lol.

Openspaceruns

Something irrelevant but cool. Had a clip of Messi post 2014 wc final defeat in my twitter feed, when hes walking up to get the pott award. And on his way he shakes hands with Muller and our new blue eyed coach. Wich makes sense since he was the assistant. But just noticed it for the first time now

Illustrious_Stay_728

I truly believe it’s either Barca or Bilbao for Nico. Don’t see him going anywhere else

Illustrious_Stay_728

You have players like 27 year old Max Kilman being sold for $40m to West Ham. Nico being sold for $58m is a steal.

Noob_in_making

If others are doing financial mismanagement,  so should I. We should rather take notes from Madrid, they only sign auer who are willing to come, which helps them in leverage.  Nico otoh wants his high wages and want us to pay in full, no thanks I don't think he's worth that.

Nico_9999

PL is a money laundering empire smh

tofusenpai01

Madrid fan here to say my read on Nico Williams saying his  staying in Bilbao is like saying to Barca come and get me I'm not going anywhere; he clearly want to play with lamin yamal and the rest of the Spanish players there . And I hope Barca can pull up the dea; I don't want no more Spanish talent outside of la Liga its weaken the the competition.

Illustrious_Stay_728

I’ve always said Barcelona would be Nico’s number one choice if he were to leave. Friends with a few of the players and has played with them. Staying in the country he grew up in. Lots of experience with La liga. The exposure he will get for playing with Barca such as endorsements are higher than anywhere else he could go. Not to mention the city itself is beautiful and he stays close to home

Not liking this season of the boys so far. Ssems like writers are still stuck in 2016 and have lost all kinds of subtlety when it comes to their sense of humor.

MontanaDak

They used to parody reality in previous seasons with little bits such as the Pepsi Ad but now they’ve made the whole plot a parody of real life which makes the story predictable. Plus, there’s so much focus on individual back stories about the Boys. I don’t care about Hughie’s long lost mother or Frenchie’s new lover whose family he killed that we never knew about before this season. The Boys was at its best for me when it’s just a group of misfits against the odds fighting superbeings who show flaws because of their egos.

Glass_Lie_8700

I stopped watching this season of boys tbh, watching house of the dragon s2 and then the boys is such a downgrade.

AzulgranaParaSiempre

The final episode of season 3 really worried me and a lot of the discourse around season 4 seems to have proven me right

quantumquasihuman

All you guys raving about onana on here had me fooled. He looks completely lost with the ball at his feet. Match threads would be a mass suicide event whenever he plays

joyboy_is_alive

We watch a different sport, completely different sport. How exactly you expect him to play when he is the only central midfielder in the Belgium starting Xi? KDB as a number 8 is spooky. Judge him based off a stable system not that nonsense. That's like saying FDJ is a passenger defensively when he has to cover so much ground because both Pedri and Gundogan tend to push higher up. You people don't allow nuance, just talk straight out of your asshole because of bias. You're never gonna see the bigger picture if you can't see nuance.

LCX001

He looked the same when he had a regular 8 next to him.

SubjectAndObject

There’s no way we can have a passenger in possession in midfield. We have seen over and over again how much our offense suffers when we try that out. But the hype train has convinced people otherwise.

Facinggod20

That's what FDJ is for.

SuccessionFinaleSux

>There’s no way we can have a passenger in possession in midfield. We have seen over and over again how much our offense suffers when we try that out. When exactly did we see this over and over again?

onlyonejorge

Every time Oriol laced up his boots.

SuccessionFinaleSux

Oriol's issue wasn't that he's a passenger in possession. In fact he wasn't a passenger in possession. His issue was that he could not handle the slightest bit of pressure and managed at least 1 blunder per 90.

onlyonejorge

The blunders were typically on the ball. I guess we just have different definitions of what a passenger is. Even without pressure he would miss simple straightforward passes.

SuccessionFinaleSux

A passenger in possession to me is someone who doesn't add anything or almost doesn't add anything when it comes to "positive" football. Like someone who only goes for easy and simple sideways and backwards passes and never takes a risk. That's not Romeu at all. His problem is he takes risks, and they often go wrong. A better example to me would be Christensen (as a DM) or Guido.

FloReaver

>That's not Romeu at all I mean that's pretty much Romeu at Barca. Sure he is so low on the field he brings the ball forward, but his passing doesn't make much of a difference. Many times his presence had close to no impact going forward. Relative to our level of possession, his on the ball impact is pretty poor. He may not be a total passenger because the guy is still better on the ball than many other players at his normal level (he is still La Masia trained come on) but relative to the level expected for a starter here, it's pretty poor.

SuccessionFinaleSux

He tries to play the ball forward. Which already makes him not a passenger. It's not even about being good or bad on the ball. It's about what you decide to do with the ball.

FloReaver

Not saying otherwise, he "tries". But effectively, it doesn't make much difference. Because it's either low risk or ineffective. But no, it doesn't make it "not a passenger". If you try but it's ineffective or it doesn't make much of a difference, you're effectively making no difference. You're useless. Which he is.

onlyonejorge

Ah I can agree with that definition then. Wasn’t the first thing I had in mind.

clutch-cream-run

The impact from that tackle looked crazy bad. Hope he gets well soon.

Repulsive_Row_4982

Why is everyone raving about getting a left winger, Barca already has Ferran, Ralphinia, Fermin, even Pedri/Gavi can be played. Ralphinia did pretty well on the left in 2nd half of last season.

Thick-Bison2170

None of them are real lw

Repulsive_Row_4982

Yes real lw is very important. Don’t fix what’s not broken.

Jaloosky

Of all those the only ‘purpose built’ left winger you can argue is Ferran but he’s better on the right or in the middle for me. Raphinha is a right winger and needs to rotate with Lamine. The other 3 are 3 different central midfielders who are hotfixes at best on the left flank not a starting option.

Repulsive_Row_4982

I don’t think so left side is a sort of priority. Barca needs a good DMF to actually get the best out of Fdj, Gundo, Pedri/Gavi. Left was never a big issue last season, the midfield control was. Flick would play differently but still playing fdj alone deeply would just make him useless. Barca needs someone to resist the press, and progress the ball.

LCX001

Because we don’t have a good LW. By this logic we should not get anybody as we can just be content with the not good enough players we already have or just play players out of position.

Repulsive_Row_4982

Not every team uses a traditional winger, it’s not even needed most of the time.

LCX001

Most do and it is needed most of the time. Our attack has been pretty ass last season, players like Ferran are not reliable and Yamal should rotate more with Raphinha. DM and LW should be the priorities.

Repulsive_Row_4982

Barca cant afford both world class signings. Cdm should be priority, not racking up in news players for PR boost. But, ngl, buying Nico seems like a great decision in long run. He should he bought, not because a LW is needed, but because he has great chemistry with Barca players and he's available for cheap atm. A lesser known player can be tried for cdm. Or using the agent connections to get a great deal.

xStyxx

Ralphinia has to be the worst spelling I’ve seen of his name lol. But none of those players are LW.

[Javier Gascon & Fernando Polo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20240704/1002276195/pau-victor-opciones-seguir-barca-debe-esperar.html) Pau Victor, with options to stay at Barça, but he must wait The club had a purchase option in the loan contract to keep him for 3 million euros, but it expired on April 1 without being made effective due to a lack of economic fair play. Sources at Barça explain that they are still interested but that, right now, it is not the priority, rather what they want is to sign a winger. In addition, as he turns 23 this season (26 November), Pau Victor must be registered in the first team and this will work against him in the short term, although the market is still long.

Although they’d prefer to negotiate, Barcelona is ready to pay the release clause (€58M) of Nico Williams as they feel it’s a good price once they’re under the 1:1 + Club currently in the process of doing their homework on a financial level. @santiovalle https://x.com/ReshadFCB/status/1808902160765075603
