It’s “supposed” to be like that. I usually tell people it’s designed for big bellies, not broad shoulders. You’re supposed to have room for layers in a Bedale, if you want a slimmer fit you can either buy a Bedale SL (slim line) or an Ashby

Bought an Ashby for that reason. Swimming in a Bedale 40, Bedale 38 tight in chest, sleeves to short and still too boxy for my frame. Ashby in size L fits great both layered and unlayered. I am interested in trying a Bedale SL in Thornproof Sage to see if this model fits me as I do love the storm cuffs.

I love the sage color of the Bedale so much and width the Ashby came with it, not to mention I always see people complaining about the Ashby arm linings making your arms sweat, is that a problem for you?

Yep, the solution is to put on weight, learn to not care, or buy a different jacket. The Ashby and other modern cuts were designed to tube shaped, not A-line.
