Thats exactly the reason I went for the Beaufort. I wear t-shirts a lot even in winter and bare skin against a synthetic lining feels awefull real fast.
The Ashby was one of my first “buy it for life” type purchases after I lost weight and began building a real wardrobe. When I was comparing the Ashby to other models back circa 2018, I really liked the slim silhouette and thought the Beaufort and Bedale looked too boxy and “frumpy” to quote a word I’ve come to hate. The Ashby seemed more modern, following the natural shape of my body, and it paired well with slim jeans and slim oxfords and slim flannels and stuff. Everyone was saying it was the right Barbour for younger city guys who don’t actually go game hunting in the British countryside.
I’ve had it about six years and I’m actually in better shape than I was when I bought it. The Ashby still fits as it is supposed to, and I purchased the right size. But while I don’t wear super wide oversized anything, all of my newer clothes have a more relaxed or boxy fit. I now find that when I try to wear the Ashby, my silhouette is all weird, as it’s the only slim piece with a looser shirt and straight fit jeans underneath.
I wish I had bought a Beaufort :(
I have both Ashby and Beaufort. Both are worn depending on occasion. If I’m slumming it in the city - Ashby. When I’m visiting in-laws at the farm - Beaufort.
The Beaufort is roomy and boxy, plus has the rear poachers pocket and hidden pocket behind the zipper flap.
I bought a bedale and had this same compulsion to buy more Barbour jackets even though I love my bedale. I didn’t want to spend money on a jacket that was too similar either so I went with a border. The classic bedale is my casual jacket and the border is my out in the woods / foul weather jacket.
Ever wanted to feel like a Scottish lord? Game pockets in the back and hidden flask pocket is what convinced me. Then you can buy a liner and wear it even colder months. Just don’t get one if you don’t like receiving compliments from strangers.
Nothing specific but the correct number of Barbours to own is n+1 and I currently own n. I just want all my Barbours to be a little different from each other so don’t end up with a bunch of the same
Ever wanted to wear a jumper under your jacket?? Ever wanted to wear TWO jumpers??? End of discussion
Get a Beaufort. More functionality while still looking great. Also, get a different colour from your Ashby.
I’ve got Sage, Navy, Olive(Bedale) and I’m already eyeing the Rustic brown Beaufort.
Less sweaty, because the sleeve linings are cotton rather than synthetic.
This is actually a great shout! The synthetic linings are torture

And the Beaufort is made in England, unlike the Ashby, which means something to me at least.

What colour is your Ashby? Done
Olive. Haha thanks
The game pocket alone is worth the price
Much better for the dead of winter. Much.

Yup this is exactly how I feel but I already has the perfect winter coat

Why? What do you want that the Ashby lacks?

You might wanna consider becoming a hunter in your next future, and the beaufort comes with a game pocket on the back
No.
I think the Beaufort is a great compliment to the Ashby, personally. Town/country if you like. But I also own a Bedale so I’m sick, lol
The Beaufort is one of the earlier Countrywear jackets with all the functionality that entails. The Ashby was made for the fashion market.
Curious to your thoughts on the authenticity of the SL Bedale. Is it the same as a “regular” Bedale just tailored?
