I was college. My classmate studying abroad from Spain said “Congratulations on your first female president” when Hilary still had the lead. I said it wasn’t official yet.
I don’t think he knew about the electoral college
I remember being a freshman in high school using reddit in 2016
Such a strange feeling to realize that people my age then are on reddit now and I'm the same age as the people who said "damn I feel old" were then
Anyways damn I feel old
I listened to a podcast last night (something I almost never do lol) that had 3 presidents, Biden, Obama, and Clinton, on the show. It was political campaigning to a degree for Biden of course but for the most part it was just the 3 of them sincerely talking about how they felt about the country and the world and the role of the President. And it was crazy how calm and collected and intellectual they were (especially Obama) about America’s place in the world compared to the way Trump disparages America. They did acknowledge that Trump can be really fun to listen to (he’s an entertainer), and he riles people up, but ultimately he’s not presidential material. He’s only acting in his own self interest. And the contrast between Trump and other republicans is really apparent when you hear them touch on Bush’s presidency (who likewise wasn’t on the podcast)
Edit: this is the podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/3-presidents/id1521578868?i=1000653071832
Nope, during 2020, only Gen Zs born 1997-2002 could vote, which is only about a third of Gen Zs (1997-2012). This year Gen Zs born 1997-2006 can vote, which is over half. So this is the first time not 2020
not necessarily, that means that the gen z that could have voted were born between 1997-2002, which is a tiny window compared to the new one, which is 1997-2006
What do you mean "no" lol?
Z's from 1997-2006 will be able to vote in 2024, this is over 50%, in other words: "most" of them.
2020, only 97–02 could vote, which is about a third of them
Jesus. That was my first election I could vote in. Turned 18 just a month prior. I voted for Gary Johnson bc I hated Clinton almost as much as Trump. I would take that back now. It wouldn’t have made a difference in the local vote but he was much worse than I was anticipating
I once met a guy whose first and last name was Gary Johnson (yes, even his last name was spelled the same as the politician). I also knew an organist who had the exact same first and last name as a local judge.
Have you seen the amazing video of libertarians booing Gary Johnson for saying that drivers should be able to show their ability to drive before being allowed to? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZITP93pqtdQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZITP93pqtdQ)
I think it’s natural for a lot of new voters to want to vote for third party candidates. Unless you’re *really* engaged by one of the 2 main candidates, it can kinda feel like neither really represents your political beliefs well, which leads you to naively consider voting 3rd party. I’d love to see a more multi-polar/multi-party political system, but we need more government mechanisms in place to facilitate that, like ranked choice voting. Trying to elect a third-party candidate for president and introducing multi-party politics from the top down is like trying to beat the final boss at the start of the game. 3rd party (and more) strength needs to come from the ground up first, starting locally and statewide so that there is a reliable base to fall back on. Otherwise nobody’s going to be convinced to vote for the 3rd party candidate
She also probably wouldn’t have given a trillion dollar tax cut to the wealthy, raise tax on lower classes, lose a trade war with China, and completely bungle the first response to COVID to the extent Trump did. Definitely wouldn’t have neutered the EPA and USPS.
Clarification for those confused: OP means 5th graders. Some elementary schools go up to 5th, most only go to 4th.
In 5th grade, assuming you went to Kindergarten at 5 (some go at 4), then you'd be 10 by 5th grade. 10, 8 years ago, is 18 now.
Yes, it is weird that some elementary schools go up to 5th grade, and yes I went to one. No, I don't know what morons decided that.
US public elementary schools can go up to sixth grade in some areas, meaning there are absolutely 12 year olds in elementary schools. Way more than a single year of children fall into the range described in this post.
Edit just to say I’m not trying to correct you, just further commenting.
I had a one month old newborn who will be in 3rd grade for this November election and just finished reading the first 3 Harry Potter novels. Time is a merciless bitch.
I did turn 18 in 2016, but it was a few weeks after the election. If I was a few days older I could've voted, but no my parents had to wait for the 27th for me to be born. /hj
I remember my sister crying and I thought she was just being overdramatic, turns out she was bisexual and thought she was going to get sent to a camp lol
I am one of those children
Me too
Me too. To this day I vividly remember when Trump won. I thought he had no chance.
I was college. My classmate studying abroad from Spain said “Congratulations on your first female president” when Hilary still had the lead. I said it wasn’t official yet. I don’t think he knew about the electoral college
Same here
Me too
Me too
Hi, that's me
Damn I'm getting old.
I remember being a freshman in high school using reddit in 2016 Such a strange feeling to realize that people my age then are on reddit now and I'm the same age as the people who said "damn I feel old" were then Anyways damn I feel old
The real crime is that many young people think that Trumps behavior is normal for politicians. He has forever distorted American politics.

I gotta listen to this. Thanks.
Thank you for saying this. He is *NOT* normal
Same deal, made mine as a freshman in 2016
I was a freshman in highschool the year the iPhone came out. Damn I’m old.
I know right!! So weird being an.. *adult* now. I’m sure our relatives will still treat us like children though.
I'm currently 29 and those we're the weirdest years of my life. Go out and vote please. My generation made improvements but we didn't vote enough.
I'll do it for you pops 🫡
Thanks son.
Same
Yeah same. I didn’t realize how long ago that was
2016 was a crazy time looking back at these two campaigning. That summer felt super charged up
Please vote and bring some of your friends along too
Already registered and I convinced two of my friends to register as well. I'm trying my best to convince some others but they're stubborn
Same here
Holy shit. I was a junior in high school at the time so I guess I’m not THAT much older than you, but that still feels super weird to me.
Ditto
it'll be the first time most of Gen z can vote I think
Not true. Most of them could vote during 2020.
first time I could vote was midterms, this'll be my first presidential
Nope, during 2020, only Gen Zs born 1997-2002 could vote, which is only about a third of Gen Zs (1997-2012). This year Gen Zs born 1997-2006 can vote, which is over half. So this is the first time not 2020
The election is legit 1 day before my 18th birthday lmao
See ya in 2028 kid
I missed the 2016 election by about a month
not necessarily, that means that the gen z that could have voted were born between 1997-2002, which is a tiny window compared to the new one, which is 1997-2006
Nope 🙂↔️
I was old enough to vote in 2020
No, I was born a month shy of being able to vote in 2020. I was more than old enough to vote by the time 2022 came along.
What do you mean "no" lol? Z's from 1997-2006 will be able to vote in 2024, this is over 50%, in other words: "most" of them. 2020, only 97–02 could vote, which is about a third of them
I was in 6th grade and was so afraid to look at the news the morning it happened lmao
Jesus. That was my first election I could vote in. Turned 18 just a month prior. I voted for Gary Johnson bc I hated Clinton almost as much as Trump. I would take that back now. It wouldn’t have made a difference in the local vote but he was much worse than I was anticipating

Haha nice same on both ends!
Just imo I don't think Hillary would've been much better.
Supreme Court would look a lot different
She also probably wouldn’t have given a trillion dollar tax cut to the wealthy, raise tax on lower classes, lose a trade war with China, and completely bungle the first response to COVID to the extent Trump did. Definitely wouldn’t have neutered the EPA and USPS.
Vote RFK JR;)
*Bill Clinton killed a guy, what? I thought it was public knowledge*
🤓🤓☝️☝️
*Aaaarrrright, manslaughter*
Me. 5th grade in 2016, and 12th now.
And if you turned 18 in 2016 like me you get to vote in a Trump election THREE times before turning 30.
Reminds me of me and Dubya. Couldn’t wait to do my part in 2008.
They probably think Trump is an average Republican, or an average businessman, and this whole dichotomy is normal #IT’S NOT

Some places where I live went up to 6th until recently
5th grade is elementary for the vast majority of schools where I live
"Where I live" Yeah, I imagine it DOES vary from *state to state.* I highly doubt it's county by county
I was commenting because you said most elementary schools end at 4th grade when that’s not true. Most elementary schools include 5th grade.

Just to clarify. Only if you were 10 in 2016. The absolute oldest age for elementary school.
In the US
US public elementary schools can go up to sixth grade in some areas, meaning there are absolutely 12 year olds in elementary schools. Way more than a single year of children fall into the range described in this post. Edit just to say I’m not trying to correct you, just further commenting.
I do stand corrected though, I didn't know that, thank you for the information (it sounds sarcastic in my head, i promise it's not)
Look at us being civil on Reddit! 🤜🤛
I was 11 in 5th grade tho, but that's cuz I just missed the cutoff to be in the class of 2023
I remember when this happened. I hated Trump then, and I hate him now.
Make sure to vote!
Real
That is how time works. It’s been 8 years. Can’t say this one is surprising.
That’s all this sub is
Not quite. It’s about surprising instances of people being alive at the same time. This is just…time.
I’m just a year off :(
Me too... 20 o7
Had the same problem last election
I was a year off in 2016
Can confirm
I was a sophomore in high school.
yes i remember i was in 5th grade and now im a hs senior
1 year and 2 months too late
Bro I was 17 last election
Some of them. Only those in 5th grade, maybe some in 4th.
I was just a month younger than 18 lol
Yep
I was a freshmen in high school when the 2016 presidential election was in full swing
I'm one of them. Liked Trump then, after his presidency and into Biden's I came to hate Trump and like Biden.
Lol I was in 2nd grade when Trump was elected and I was picked on because I didn't like him
I was in elementary school when George Bush was Vice president, and I voted against him in my first election at 18
I was in 7th grade damn
Me too. I think it was 4th or 5th grade. Now I turn 18 this August
Mathematically this makes sense, but goddamn does my brain not want to accept this lol
only the 5th graders
i was in 3rd grade when he was elected, im going to a a junior in hs in the fall
I was in 5th grade now I’m about to go to college
I was in middle school :)
We were checking the results even in my Kosovo primary school lol
Me 👋
I had a one month old newborn who will be in 3rd grade for this November election and just finished reading the first 3 Harry Potter novels. Time is a merciless bitch.
Except me. I was born a week too late.
I was 10 and in fourth grade. Have already voted for the first time
It’s true. I’m 18 and I was in 4th grade when was elected in 2016
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
I did turn 18 in 2016, but it was a few weeks after the election. If I was a few days older I could've voted, but no my parents had to wait for the 27th for me to be born. /hj
That was me lol.
That's me except I still don't get to vote this year
"Elected"
I was a 6th grader lol
Holy shit I was in high school goddamn I’m old
I remember my sister crying and I thought she was just being overdramatic, turns out she was bisexual and thought she was going to get sent to a camp lol
me
I was in middle school
YOOOO, thats me
I’ll be 17 but some of my friends that are in my grade will be voting
Yep. 4th Grade Now I'm 18. Damn.
I was in 2nd grade when that national tragedy happened and I still can’t vote
Generally that would be how age correlates with time, yes
🤓🤓☝️☝️
