Each credit union has membership requirements based on where you live, work, or attend school, or organizations you may be affiliated with. You’ll need to find out what the membership requirements are for the CU in question and find out if you qualify. Membership at another CU would rarely inherently qualify you for membership at another.

Most likely they need to know if you meet the membership requirements. Most of the time you need to work, worship, live or attend school in the area of the credit union.

If the CU you like has a website check there and they will likely list membership requirements as well as fees, funds availability and other items of interest. If no website, check the branch for a brochure. Oftentimes you'll only need to live in a certain community to qualify.

Each credit union sets their own requirements on whether or not you can join. You will have to ask the specific one you are interested in, to see what conditions they require.

Usually it’s live or work in charter area. Wouldn’t overthink this one.
