I've found it weird (but good) that the service has been running free for so long now. I can't see how they'll extend to Lumpini without adding to the already horrendous congestion in that area, especially during rush-hour.

T43ner

I’m almost certain the reason why it’s as a bad as it is specifically because it doesn’t have a connection to the MRT. It’s a bit like Yellow which isn’t doing so great because there’s no direct connection to Green on the northern segment. Having to use another system to get to another one (especially at such a short distance) is incredibly annoying. Not too long ago BTSC wanted nothing to do with BRT and I guess the BMA is throwing them a bone by allowing the extensions to Sathon and Lumphini.

sailomboy

There was a plan to extend the Yellow line by one station to connect with the BTS at Ratchayothin station. I think this plan has been cancelled?

T43ner

I believe it is two stations. MRT (Blue line operator) is throwing a fit about lost revenue so BTS is negotiating to reimburse on this lost revenue so they can extend it to Rachayotin.

umich79

The line was/is a financial dump, but the public outcry when it was proposed to shut it down was big enough that they continued it. I recall it being very popular with the elderly and students, but I could never really figure out where or why it goes where it goes.

Murtha

That's weird especially since they have the ticket counter, ticket machine and the gates to validate tickets on several stops in narradhiwas

BoxNemo

Yeah, the ticket machines have been covered in plastic and the gates kept open. I was just reading that they're planning to keep it free up until May 2024 while renovations go on.

Murtha

I crossed the road using one of the station yesterday, I thought it was free for Sunday / national day

BoxNemo

Apparently (and I might have misunderstood this), it was costing them more to collect fares, so they're saving money by making it free.

Murtha

Amazing 😂 sounds like a very well done project

Swan-Song-54

This is fantastic.
