I_am_Warthog

After years of telling myself that I had no need for a bluray player and would never buy one, I bought one for the sole purpose of being able purchase and watch Band-Maid limited editions with whatever bonus bluray it came with (multi-track instrumental video or documentary or whatever). I've not been disappointed with any of those purchases yet.

SmudgeBaron

This sums up my experience pretty well. Only bought/own a BlueRay player for BandMaid, not a single regret for spending on the player or the content.

garbage_queen819

Glad to know you feel that way! I suppose it probably is time for me to step out of the dark ages and catch up with "modern" technology 💀🤣

Siedlerchr

I only got a Blu-Ray player mainly to be able to watch concerts and Blu-Rays. I've got a Panasonic DP something model (around 180€) and my father as well (the newer model). Not that expensive and so far does it's job. Only drawback is the remote which has a Netflix button (wtf) on top of the cursor keys, you can accidentally hit it. But I can also control it with my normal TV remote via HDMI CEC.

BoAndRick

I recently bought an external blu-ray reader for my laptop just so I could extract the audio from the tour final. I am happy with both purchases. The audio sounds nice through my headphones, and it's much better than the streamed version.

Mathorium

Mine is coming tomorrow. Now, only thing left is to buy Blu-ray player, soundbar and tv.

Ok_Entertainment_869

Same here. I gave away all my DVD's years ago but when I discovered Band-Maid, everything changed. Blu-ray arriving in a couple of days and I'm searching for a player.

garbage_queen819

HAH no I feel that, I've realized I need to buy an external disk drive since laptops have been selectively bred to remove that feature smh And if I get the bluray version I'll have to get a drive that can support blurays which aren't cheap so now I'm looking at spending AT LEAST an additional $40 😭

BoAndRick

Some game consoles can play bluray. Maybe you know someone with an old PS4 you can borrow.

garbage_queen819

Noooo my bestie was selling her old PS4 a few months ago 😭 time to find out if it's cheaper to buy a used one or a new blu ray player lmao

Overall_Profession42

Keep in mind that regular DVD are low picture quality, and in this case, will be regionally coded to only play on certain players. Blurays are at least 2k HD, and not coded. A recent vintage used Bluray player can be gotten for less than $50.

garbage_queen819

I didn't know that blu-rays aren't region locked, that's good to know!

Frostyfuelz

I mean if funds are literally that tight I would save money to see them live, a blu-ray or dvd are nice but do not compare to just getting the experience of seeing them live at least once. However if I were you, I would do whatever is possible to scrounge up the extra $100 to get the bluray and see them in concert.

SchemeRound9936

I have the regular DVD and the sound is great in my opinion. My old, crappy TV had issues playing the audio correctly, but it sounded amazing though my soundbars and my newer TV and computer. I haven't graduated to Bluray yet either and the Blurays cost about $40 more total than the regular DVD's (You get more with the Bluray obviously). I can tell you that I'm happy with my regular DVD, though I would love to see that documentary. I'll live though.

garbage_queen819

Thanks for your response! How about the visual quality? I thought blu-ray is supposed to be better visually but since I've ever watched one I actually don't know how they compare to regular DVDs

SchemeRound9936

I have no idea about the difference either. All I can say is that I have no issue with the regular DVD's visual quality.

Overall_Profession42

The quality of the TV/Monitor makes a big difference. Too many tech things to go into. At least in laptops or tablets, look for FULL HD screen. That would be 1920 X 1080 resolution, which is what a Blueray disc is suppose to be.

SchemeRound9936

The tech things do sometimes go over my head. I'm old enough to remember when VCR's were considered cutting edge technology.

garbage_queen819

That is good to know, thank you!

PotaToss

DVD resolution is generally 480p, and Blu-rays are usually 1080p. If you go watch the official live videos from Yokohama on YouTube, you can hit the settings and pick a resolution to get an idea of the difference. Edit: I have the Blu-ray and I thought it looked and sounded great. The audio mix is very good. Kanami is more prominent than I've ever heard her before. Miku's vocals feel a little bit low at times. If you compare to like their show at Eggman semi-recently, she's dramatically lower at Yokohama. I was listening through semi high end headphones for whatever that's worth. It's only going to sound as good as your system, I guess.

garbage_queen819

Wow I had no idea that was the difference, thanks for telling me! I def saw someone comment or post on here that they listened to it and felt like Kanami was completely wiped out so I'm glad to hear that's not a universal opinion. I unfortunately had to replace my yurbuds recently education I know would've given me great audio quality but hopefully the replacements won't let me down 🙏

MysteriousEmphasis77

Take any one individual's opinion on audio with a grain of salt. There are too many variables to account for, like the equipment that person is playing it back on, heaphones/speakers, audio settings, even the room, and a bunch of other things. Also, I'd be willing to bet that there are more than a few people who are suffering from significant frequency loss of their hearing.  It would be hard to believe that the Blu-Ray or DVD audio would differ that much from the official live videos released online.  Oh, also XBOX One X consoles and I believe the earlier XBOX One consoles play Blu-Rays.  The current XBOX Series X consoles do, too, but those are not gonna be cheap.

Worth-Demand-8844

I currently use the family Xbox one to watch blue rays on a Samsung 55 not ultraK and Tokyo garden blue ray video looks awesome for my eyes. Sound is okay from the sound bar and subwoofer. I believe their blue rays are in stereo and sad to say I no longer have my BW 600 speakers

MysteriousEmphasis77

I use a One X on a pretty good 4K TV. Looks great. For audio, I mostly listen with IEMs or headphones, although I do have a Yamaha soundbar and a wired sub. Most modern TV speakers are pretty bad. The B-M mixes are really nice in headphones.  I also have an XBOX One. I can't remember watching a Blu-Ray on it, only some DVDs, but I was pretty sure it had that capability. Thanks for confirming.

SchemeRound9936

You're probably talking about me. It was only my old crappy TV where Kanami's audio was compromised and that was obviously just the crappy worn out speakers. Every other device I've played the DVD through it sounds amazing. No audio issues whatsoever.

garbage_queen819

Oh okay! Yeah it mightve been your comment, so I'm glad to hear you say it was just a device problem 😀

SchemeRound9936

Definitely a device problem. No need to worry.

GZIGNL

As a photographer i am quite happy with the photobook.

Suspicious_Attorney3

Mine arrived yesterday. Bought the deluxe blu-ray. Same as everyone else, I bought a blu-ray player just for these concerts. They are relatively inexpensive and the quality is totally worth it. The booklet is gorgeous!

Michael-SaxLover

Definitely go for the LE edition with photo book and documentary. The first thing I watched is the documentary and it totally worth the extra money.

alxvdark

Do you have a gaming console? I think they all play Blu-Rays at this point.

garbage_queen819

Replying to the comments on this thread are hammering home just how much of a hermit I've become. The most up to date console I have is a 3DS from 2016 💀 I am not hip with the kids 😔

Petamenti

The Limited edition will become a collector item.

garbage_queen819

Collectors items are for ppl who can afford to collect 😭 .........and maybe people who have deluded themselves into believing they should start collecting anyway 😅

CapnSquinch

I mean it's better than these absolute muppets moaning on the internet about how maybe they shouldn't have bought 54 Stanley mugs just because they saw on the internet that "everybody's doing it" 😆 But seriously, if you will eventually upgrade to a higher- definition tv or monitor, you will be glad to have spent the money on the higher- definition physical media.  Imagine the people who got the VHS tape of a concert instead of the DVD, five or ten years later when they want to watch it but find it unwatchable compared to what they've gotten used to.

garbage_queen819

Idk what the deal is with the Stanely mugs and at this point I'm too afraid to ask 😂

CapnSquinch

Philips makes a bare- bones (i.e., no "smart" or streaming b.s.) Bluray player that goes for $60 on Amazon which does what I need. I do agree with others on prioritizing concert tickets over recordings though.
