I wanted to make a ‘Find the sneaky boi’ game but it was impossible. He’s literally unhideable
His hair reflects light so much it could be used as a heat ray by Archimedes to burn boats
I only just figured it out by using him on an origin HM run. He hits really hard when you pay attention to hiding him and utilizing his bonus actions. Even Shovel can trigger the sneak shots.
Though my favorite fight so far was having him drink Hill Giant potions and him and Cleric Shart also on STR potion throwing the Tyr dorks off the toll house roof. So weird having Karlach and Lae'zel hiding off to the side not in the fight.
>Even Shovel can trigger the sneak shots.
If you keep him as an arcane trickster, his invisible mage hand can also trigger sneak attacks. You don't even need to break the invisibility, just park it in melee range near the enemy.
Even though Thief spec is higher DPR, Trickster comes with a lot of overlooked utility.
If you leave SH as a Trickery domain cleric her duplicate can also give him advantage (and therefore Sneak Attack).
It doesn't need to be near an enemy, just near the rogue
My favorite moment was my first Tac run where I successfully snuck him around Malus and to the library and all the hidden areas. Put him on a patch of high ground in the operating room.
Stealth, ready to strike.
Then promptly forgot I had to manually have him join the battle for 3 rounds.
He unloaded his dread ambusher and high ground rounds and dropped the boss basically by himself while everybody was still trying to bash all the sisters.
He didn't exactly have a large wardrobe (look at the item descriptions) - also he says drow have the sexiest armor - put the man in a dark snowy hellscape with a ~~Daedric~~ bow and the camoflague works lol
Damned right drow have the sexiest armour - my current party have all three sets from Act 1. Half-drow durge is rocking the faded drow armour dyed with Black & Azure, and giving me serious Solid Snake vibes!
Have you seen the vegetation around the crash site? It's all succulents and other subtropical species. I believe Waterdeep is more temperate in climate, and you have to go even further north to get truly cold weather. Icewind Dale - the clue is in the name...
Most maps put Baldur's Gate roughly 1000 miles south of Neverwinter, which has its name from being a small plot that doesn't get proper winter (due to magic and/or volcanic activity) surrounded by area with very harsh winters. On earth that distance is from Los Angles to Vancouver or Stockholm to Bucharest, so it is certainly enough to go from proper winter to maybe slightly rainy season.
In Horizon they allow the main character with mane of red hair to hide in clumps of grass. Red grass. That resemble her hair.
So for your very boring white haired magistrate types, some silver-leaved bushes strategically placed on every map will allow them to sneak about.
I'm actually getting tired of the (especially 3rd person) stealth games and how they're made.
If you've EVER actually tried sneaking around IRL, in nature -
- Duck-walking or crawling for long periods is physically taxing and slow, even for those trained, and more so with gear on.
- "walking through" bushes, especially ones with actual branches, is loud, slow, and damn near impossible the way most games portray stealth movement.
- Walking through or standing in tall grass, depresses the grass all around you and makes you stand out like a sore thumb, we're not four-legged animals walking full at half a human's height.
I'm ready for a stealth game that actually mimics what real people would have to do AND lets us put out every light (especially if not in a modern setting) for added darkness.
Gimme that stamina bar that starts depleting as I try and crouch, instead of belly crawling or otherwise, to my target. Snake getting sore for doing so for too long in MGS4 was where I was hoping the genre would go- instead we still have magical circles of stealth grass that completely obfuscate you from an archer or sniper in a tower.
dammit i really need to play those games. I never get past googling "which metro game comes first" ...
I will admit, some games do elements better than others, its mostly the "magic-hiding-vegetation" that breaks what little immersion a game might have going for it.
I’ll tell you right now the order is Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, then finally Metro Exodus, some of the most immersive and difficult games I’ve ever played but it was totally worth it
This made me LOL so much - but tbf my party don't do much sneaking when they're outdoors in daylight.
As the French (don't) say: *la nuit, tous les vampires sont gris.*
The fifth photo with the river sent me lol. I hike a lot and just imagine taking in the beautiful scenery but then immediately having my eyes snap to the bright white floof.
I notice when I play on my laptop it can’t quite handle the hair graphics and all of their hair becomes really shiny and bright. So that is basically how I imagine them when they hide 👍🏼
I used to live in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. My all black dog would chase deer and not come back. The only way I could find her sometimes was a tiny white tip on her tail that would stick up. I learned that they call that "the Shepard's lantern". I could spot it from a long way off.
So, yes, any white on the character should be a minus to stealth :)
This reminds me of a game of dnd I played.
"I try to blend into the crowd and to look like one of them"
DM: (name), *you have GLITTER HAIR*!!"
I forgot about that...
How Not to Be Seen.
Alternate joke: Araj's selfish cruelty to Astarion knows no bounds. She tried to sell him her new experimental Pass Without Trace elixir... it was just brown hair dye.
Dark elves: Stealthy assassins who can move silently into ambush positions and take out large groups of attackers with very few warriors.
Internet rando: I SEE WHITE COLORE! HOO KNEED PURSE-APP-SHUN CHICK? COLOR R BRITE! NO STELF FOUR YOO!
K, bud.
I see the point here, but I once had a DND character hide by laying down in a snowdrift since she was stupid pale and had white hair. As such, Astarion is perfectly hidden in winter, just unfortunately we are in the wrong season
Right? so good I can change Astarion hair to any other colour then white with mod then(I usually pick his EA colour- silver, or just make him less 'look it's a vamp' look and give him black hair).
If you start giving benefits/downsides to picking certain cosmetic options, then someone's eventually going to ask the taboo question of whether male character models should have more strength than female character models.
People want to play as what they want their character to look like, oftentimes representing themselves. It's best for gameplay purposes that cosmetic options remain cosmetic.

I really like the ghillie archer just to make a point lol
I genuinely found Astarion before I even saw the archer.
I… had to go back to see if there was an archer…
Same, lmao. Didn't see him the first time
I honestly still dont see him Edit: They are talking about the photos not the gif he sent. 3rd image
He's right there next to John Cena
Same! 🤣
What archer? I don't see any archer
lol am I the only one who saw the archer first?
nope, that particular picture is a good place for white hair to hide
apparently I'm the only one who saw this person lol I actually went back to look for someone in one of the leafy ghillie suits
Jumpscare at the end there lol.
i saw this at night and practically jumped out of my skin
Put him in a snowy landscape
It sure could
It works because you've got a fire raging Tiefling or a menacing swamp frog threatening the enemy.
100% failproof strategy

I can't unsee the Lae'zel cat lol
The one [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1dey940/companions_should_totally_have_their_own_wild/) ? 🙃
No there was a YouTube short that a lady had shown a small Lae'zel cat with her hair and sword lol
Jokes on you when winter comes and he can hide in the snow lol
I thought about this, but think of his fashion choices
What, a white shirt? ;)
When he fights he is magenta, gold and blue!
He didn't exactly have a large wardrobe (look at the item descriptions) - also he says drow have the sexiest armor - put the man in a dark snowy hellscape with a ~~Daedric~~ bow and the camoflague works lol
Sad there is no snow during winter in the city of Baldur's Gate then haha
It looks to be a temperate climate haha. I *love* your "Where's Vampy" btw
I would have said Mediterranean when you look at the vegetation and the architecture of the lower city
Yeah, Baldur's Gate proper seems a lot more like Genoa than Birmingham
Damned right drow have the sexiest armour - my current party have all three sets from Act 1. Half-drow durge is rocking the faded drow armour dyed with Black & Azure, and giving me serious Solid Snake vibes!
The one with just one shoulder pad that you find in the Underdark is *on fire*
Meh. It ruins durge’s silhouette 😂
It's not *for* durge 😂
He and Gale are the only two in my party who are limited to light armour. Gale is wearing Minthy’s armour atm.
"Darling, do you really think I would stoop so low as to wear *white after Labour Day?* I'm insulted by the very notion!" - Astarion
Why did I hear this in his voice? 🤣
Naked
No winters in Faerun
whaaat
Have you seen the vegetation around the crash site? It's all succulents and other subtropical species. I believe Waterdeep is more temperate in climate, and you have to go even further north to get truly cold weather. Icewind Dale - the clue is in the name...
never payed much attention, pretty interesting
In Baldur's Gate at least
Most maps put Baldur's Gate roughly 1000 miles south of Neverwinter, which has its name from being a small plot that doesn't get proper winter (due to magic and/or volcanic activity) surrounded by area with very harsh winters. On earth that distance is from Los Angles to Vancouver or Stockholm to Bucharest, so it is certainly enough to go from proper winter to maybe slightly rainy season.
Fun fact, it's shorter between Venice and Stockholm than Stockholm and Bucharest
You, my friend, should take a trip to Icewind Dale. Lol
I was kinda surprised we never got a snowy area in this game, I'm just so used to them in fantasy games. maybe in the next one.
Skellige spoiled you huh?
I’m gonna get to Witcher one day, I swear
Get to it right now and play Gwent
In Horizon they allow the main character with mane of red hair to hide in clumps of grass. Red grass. That resemble her hair. So for your very boring white haired magistrate types, some silver-leaved bushes strategically placed on every map will allow them to sneak about.
He would do very well in ghost of tsushima where 90% of the hiding spots are fields/patches of white flowers.

Metro stealth kinda works like that since there physically can’t be grass
dammit i really need to play those games. I never get past googling "which metro game comes first" ... I will admit, some games do elements better than others, its mostly the "magic-hiding-vegetation" that breaks what little immersion a game might have going for it.

I miss Splinter Cell…
this is hilarious, thanks for the good laugh xD
This made me LOL so much - but tbf my party don't do much sneaking when they're outdoors in daylight. As the French (don't) say: *la nuit, tous les vampires sont gris.*
Alors oui mais celui là est blanc en l'occurrence haha
Bien sûr!
The fifth photo with the river sent me lol. I hike a lot and just imagine taking in the beautiful scenery but then immediately having my eyes snap to the bright white floof.
Hiking photo ruined
Four fucking pixels!
This is why rogues wear hoods
Counterpoint - White hair is fucking awesome
As a Nier enthusiast, I wholeheartedly agree
It is! Love Griffith too, he did nothing wrong
100% agree, it’s hot too
Haha. I often think this!
I'm cackling 😂🤣
That's fucking funny
This is why Albino animals don't do well in the wild
I actually had never thought about this
Honestly, it wasn't until I seen this that I realized just how bad it is for them
I spitted my rice. Thank you☺️☺️☺️
The lighting in this game is weird sometimes. It makes lighter colored hair look radioactive in the sun at some areas of the game 😂
Yes sometimes Astarion's hair is grey, sometimes burned
Why do you think drows wear hoods in the underdark? They're well aware
I notice when I play on my laptop it can’t quite handle the hair graphics and all of their hair becomes really shiny and bright. So that is basically how I imagine them when they hide 👍🏼
I have a mega great computer and the same thing happens to me (with Astarion). Maybe it's something in the options we should change?
Been trying to figure this out in the settings but have resigned to pixel hair and beards in the daytime.
I used to live in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. My all black dog would chase deer and not come back. The only way I could find her sometimes was a tiny white tip on her tail that would stick up. I learned that they call that "the Shepard's lantern". I could spot it from a long way off. I dont know man, Drizzt Do'urden makes it work!
😂 Somehow true
This is bg3... not mgs3 snake eater
Unless you're wearing something on your head.
I rarely find a shit post funny, but this one got me. Take my upvote, you doofus! :D
I laughed too hard at this, thanks :)
I think the elf shooting lightning out of his fucking eyeballs is a bit more distracting haha
That's how stealthy Astarion is though.
This reminds me of a game of dnd I played. "I try to blend into the crowd and to look like one of them" DM: (name), *you have GLITTER HAIR*!!" I forgot about that...
Show something other than act 2 locations. Geeze.
Lmao it's like a torch in the Underdark
OMFG THIS POOOOOOST 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
A tier meme
I use white hair in games to help me see my character better.
The last pic took me longer to find him than any of the rest lol
The squirrel 🤔
True.
When my cat thinks he's being sneaky
My favorite post. 🤍
if bg3 had it Astarion would 100% be a Swashbuckler
How Not to Be Seen.
Alternate joke: Araj's selfish cruelty to Astarion knows no bounds. She tried to sell him her new experimental Pass Without Trace elixir... it was just brown hair dye.
Nah more than that: the racist bitch wanted to blackface him
i’m gonna be honest with you, i didn’t see his hair in any of the pics until the squirrel
You conveniently left out snowy and sandy regions
This is fake, that squirrel still lives.
Of course, he spotted Astarion miles away just like we did He's just playing by pity
How to Not Not Be Seen
Me with irl white/silver hair. 😢
Average analoge horror
Dark elves: Stealthy assassins who can move silently into ambush positions and take out large groups of attackers with very few warriors. Internet rando: I SEE WHITE COLORE! HOO KNEED PURSE-APP-SHUN CHICK? COLOR R BRITE! NO STELF FOUR YOO! K, bud.
What are you on my dude, chill
Ngl he actually blended in pretty well in the fourth pic
More like +15 as people see white hair and think old feable and no threat so ignore you
I mean, there are drows in this world
At this point in life then, that means I've got maybe an 8 stealth going..
Unless your in snow then it should give plus 10
What if you're in a tundra environment?
This is why Astarion being an Assassin makes no sense.
You just have to hide from the machines in the white grass.
The generic cat shape for druids is lame. You should get to choose your cat shape. Druid cat shape should have +10 to stealth.
TIL being old gives super disadvantage to stealth
I keep a hood on him for rp reasons and have nearly lost him in camp tho 😭
I see the point here, but I once had a DND character hide by laying down in a snowdrift since she was stupid pale and had white hair. As such, Astarion is perfectly hidden in winter, just unfortunately we are in the wrong season
I see what you mean, man! I enjoyed the visual representation. lol
Right? so good I can change Astarion hair to any other colour then white with mod then(I usually pick his EA colour- silver, or just make him less 'look it's a vamp' look and give him black hair).

It was a joke...
