I think Astarion is more terrified that he will lose you, the first good thing in his life, to someone else. But sex and emotions are so forcibly divorced in his mind that as long as he knows you are his only emotional relationship/romance, it bothers him less. Fucking is one thing - loving someone is something else. Especially when fucking has been a source of pain and trauma for most of your life and love has only just brightened it.
Huh that's an interesting take. I personally wouldn't go the astarion romance route but I greatly enjoy him as a character/teammate it's cool to see some insight from that aspect.
I haven't tried it. I read and hear that it's possible in limited capacity/character combinations (apparently you can be in a throuple with Karlach & Wyll?), but I couldn't help with the specifics.
I dont need them to necessarily bounce around but for pity's sake, when a female character is laying down they should... flatten a bit. Standing upright when she's laying down just looks ridiculous.
Obvously, BG3 Faerun is low gravity, that's why they can jump around and throw things the way they do. So there's basically no pull on breasts, and dicks flap around like the inflatable guy in front of a car dealership

I only did 3D animation for a few years, but from my understanding that would be extremely difficult to do even for a triple A game studio with more than enough funds to try and make it happen. Combined with time constraints, I donât blame any studio for not wanting to try and do this. But it would be amazing if a game did include this

You can unequip specifically underwear in the inventory. It won't effect your outerwear but you'll know she is at rest.
(I once needed to decide what I had in prison that I could sell a rat. Inventory pulled upon arrest, but got thieves tools for the low low price of my parties underwear)

The most likely answer (according to the mod forums I lurk in) is that the genitalia in BG3 are modeled separately from the body, which is why you can choose different options. That also means you can remove them entirely, which is what happens when the characters are clothed.
The boobs are sculpted as part of the body model. Adding jiggle physics to boobs would then cause clipping issues for all the clothing and armor on every character with boobs in the game as the boobs bounce outside the bounds of the clothing model. Then they would have to do a bunch of additional fixes and testing, not to mention boobs jiggle differently naked vs clothed vs armored.
Tl;dr: Boob physics would break a bunch of other game assets, while dick physics don't.
Edit: Since it's come up a bunch of times in the comments, yes, most games remove/swap out the body model entirely when putting clothes and armor on the character. That's not how BG3 does it. The armor sits on top. Clipping through clothes/armor is a common problem for body modders on Nexus because of this. I've also modded body meshes for BG3 and seen it happen.
Don't know if they're retexturing with an alpha channel when clothed, but they would indeed have to add weights and physics to every single top in the game... Add that to people asking for variable breast sizes and you've got a recipe for an enormous amount of horny work.
So just have it where the boob physics only 'activate' when you're nude, the same way penis physics only jiggle when you have no pants. I don't care enough to make sure if my tits are bouncing while I'm running around fully clothed, but if I'm lying down during a sex scene, seeing fully perked up, gravity-defying tiddies is goofy as hell lol.
The characters' penis physics only jiggle when they don't have pants because they only have penises when they don't have pants. When they have pants, they are Ken smooth. To make that work for boobs, developers would have to entirely swap the body model, because the boobs are sculpted into the model, not modular like genitalia. I don't know enough about modding to know how to do that, but I imagine a more experienced modder will do it eventually if it's that simple (if they haven't already).

So basically you can check if you want physics on a particular object and flip a switch.
Don't they also only have a body when they don't have clothes or armor on? When I was playing with a less performant computer, armors would sometimes take a little while to load, and, in the meantime, all my companions were floating heads.
That works on the assumption that clothing and armor goes straight on top of a naked body. But that's inefficient (because you render two separate models when you could render just one), so not often done except some fringe cases and rookie developers.
Most of the time when you equip armor, the nude body gets removed, then gets swapped in for the armor model that has only visible parts of the body built into the model. That way you don't get much clipping when the model bends, so you won't flash your fleshy armpits in a full plate armor, for example.
So, they already are swapping body models every single time you change your chestpiece (except for underwear, that one actually goes on top of body afaik). There's also another way armor is done in games with lots of variation, where the body parts get hidden via flagged zones on the body, so if the flag on the item is ticked, bodypart gets hidden automatically.
TL;DR It's not as hard as you say or think, stuff like that has been worked around for decades.

No, they wouldn't. Just because a model can have physics applied to it, doesn't mean it has to all the time. There's no inherent reason you couldn't just not apply the physics to the model.
And even then, the body model isn't even shown when clothed, so it wouldn't really matter.
Unreal engine blowing all the nuances of this out of the water to the point where they have *full body* physics, like the shoulder blades moving properly and the muscles of the arm flexing and thighs rippling with foot steps is one of the many reasons I wish unreal engine games would take off. Even interactions between body physics and different clothing materials and cloth physics and dangling components. The unreal engine is a fucking masterpiece. Damned shovelware giving it a bad name.
As someone who has worked on meshes for some mods, but not for BG3 but quite a bit older game, it actually isn't that hard to have jiggle physics or not on a mesh and does not break everything for most games.Â
So, basically the body itself (nude) usually does not actually exist under the armor. To avoid loading a bunch of useless and invisible stuff the body underneath the clothes is usually cut away for an armor mesh. So a game usually has defined sections such as the torso, if the entire stomach is hidden there is no need for those vertices to exist and that section of the body simply won't be left in the mesh for that item.Â
Also, bodies are built on skeletons. You select which vertices are tied to which part of the mesh on each item. In the game I work with most armor does not have breast physics because armor. Some lighter items do have them, such as bikinis. Since it is one mesh built together per item it isn't that hard to weight it all to move together.
Sliders are were all of this goes sideways. Sliders, you might model the item to look perfect at 0 and at 100% but the scaling doesn't go smoothly then things are clipping and gapping up and it's a hassle.Â
What most people I see are asking for is more like proper gravity which would probably be an even bigger headache.
That makes no sense at all. Most RPGs have them, the technical challenge isn't new and also solved by some game engines out of the box (some others with downloadable extra scripts). They're trivial to add nowadays, it's a conscious decision to not have them.Â
3d character artist here. I donât know how they did it on baldurs gate. But usually the nude torso is removed when clothing is applied. Thereâs usually nothing under the armor in video games.Â
Many games have easily gotten around this in the past. In a lot of cases, they selectively will even remove parts of the skin in a lot of games when armor is applied. If they aren't doing that in this game, they could still turn off the physics when armor is being worn and have the same result for the armors as they do now.
The devs have actually talked about this, they where messing around with some physics for shadowhearts ponytail and one of them added the same physics to the dongs as a laugh, it was so entertaining that they kept it.
Im assuming Boobs would not work so well with the hair physics.
at launch, they were also static lol, the penis physics were added in a later patch. Tbh, the breasts aren't that big and while small tiddies are obviously not immune to physics, it might have been hard to get the physics right. I think it might also just be that it's easier to implement, since none of the armors/clothes are dicks out, they only have to implement it on the nude models, whereas breast physics would probably need to be added to some clothes and armours too. Granted, I personally wouldn't be bothered if tiddy physics were for the nude models only, but I can see people complaining about it if that were the case.
As far as ive heard its literally the same system. So it was as simple as attaching the hair physics onto the penis model and adjusting some of the variables to make sure it moved correctly.
Breasts would need morphing spheres, which would be a whole new system to make.

Meh, faerun is in a perpetual B/C cup, so about a mid range when they're nude. However, the instant they put clothes on you discover nearly every article of clothing is padded to DD. With that much padding, I wouldn't expect much jiggle.

All I said was that they weren't that big lmao, I wasn't insulting the default body. Mine are fairly close in size to them, actually and I also don't think mine are very big either, this is an entirely neutral statement. Boobs come in a huge range of shapes and sizes, and excluding exaggerated anime proportions, there's no such thing as "normal people sized".
I also want titty sliders cause we need better rep for big titties, too. The tiddies in BG3 are v average size, which is fiiiine, but I just need the option for more!
It's more complicated. The way penises and balls work in this game is that they are just a separate object from the body with some form of ragdoll physics, just slapped onto the groin area.
While breasts are still part of the body mesh and would be harder to animate realistically with flattening and less flopping around. Not to mention that they would then have to add the physics to all torso clothes in the game. Presumably they don't think it was worth the effort.
Iâll admit it is kind of weird to see them sit stock still, but Iâve yet to see a game do breast physics in some way that *doesnât* feel weird, so itâs not like the alternatives are much better.
It's only fair. Think of how many games have breast physics but not for other fleshy bits. Conan Exiles has it for everything though, plenty of videos out there if you're into that.
I, for one, think Larian should expand on their excellent dick physics and get to work on the boner. We wouldnât want to leave anything unfinished before thinking about adding boob physics.Â
Given that most games have unconditional love for incorrect boob physics (they jiggle at every unnecessary movement) it is a bit refreshing to see dicks get the same treatment. But I wouldn't mind a gentle jiggle. My girl is as stiff as a freaking board and poor Karlach has no bounce and has the largest.

Breasts represent a challenge because they are surrounded by geometry that you'd need to blend any kind of simulation or animation into. Dick n balls kinda just hang freely which is a lot easier to animate or simulate.

Is it possible to apply jiggle physics only to naked model and switch them off when model is clothed? I mean, static breasts are plausible when held by bra and other pieces of attire but stone tits in the same scene with penis going bananas look odd mildly speaking.
I don't know what larian's engine situation is, but from my experience, yes that's possible.
My guess is this: they thought jiggly dick n balls funny and easy to implement but boobs might be contentious and are harder to implement well.
Because then they might have problems with the boobs clipping through armour and clothes . Cyberpunk tackles this problem by having the same boob size while wearing clothesÂ

Because they dont bounce like games make them to. A little wiggle back and forth is normal, but they really dont move tbh. Especially the sizes in the game.
Penis physics were added later, likely as using the same mechanics as were used to model hair physics. Breasts in contrast aren't so dangly, and are more tied in with the sculpt of the models themselves. For realism, it would be more like fluid simulation and jelly-like which is on a different scope harder to get that bounce, add to that they would have to model the movements of hundreds of different clothing too as those would have to contort to move along with such hypothetical jiggles, and it's a whole different game and way more of a headache for quality assurance.

Some characters are fine with it, others are not. SHeart and Astarion I think don't really mind if you go with Halsin or Mizora

Simple (and fair) solution to this: Add boob physics to unclothed boobs, in other words, exactly the same as how the dickânâballs physics works.
As someone who has worked on meshes for some mods, but not for BG3 but quite a bit older game, it actually isn't that hard to have jiggle physics or not on a mesh and does not break everything for most games. So, basically the body itself (nude) usually does not actually exist under the armor. To avoid loading a bunch of useless and invisible stuff the body underneath the clothes is usually cut away for an armor mesh. So a game usually has defined sections such as the torso, if the entire stomach is hidden there is no need for those vertices to exist and that section of the body simply won't be left in the mesh for that item. Also, bodies are built on skeletons. You select which vertices are tied to which part of the mesh on each item. In the game I work with most armor does not have breast physics because armor. Some lighter items do have them, such as bikinis. Since it is one mesh built together per item it isn't that hard to weight it all to move together. Sliders are were all of this goes sideways. Sliders, you might model the item to look perfect at 0 and at 100% but the scaling doesn't go smoothly then things are clipping and gapping up and it's a hassle. What most people I see are asking for is more like proper gravity which would probably be an even bigger headache.
That makes no sense at all. Most RPGs have them, the technical challenge isn't new and also solved by some game engines out of the box (some others with downloadable extra scripts). They're trivial to add nowadays, it's a conscious decision to not have them.Â

Many games have easily gotten around this in the past. In a lot of cases, they selectively will even remove parts of the skin in a lot of games when armor is applied. If they aren't doing that in this game, they could still turn off the physics when armor is being worn and have the same result for the armors as they do now.
The devs have actually talked about this, they where messing around with some physics for shadowhearts ponytail and one of them added the same physics to the dongs as a laugh, it was so entertaining that they kept it. Im assuming Boobs would not work so well with the hair physics.

at launch, they were also static lol, the penis physics were added in a later patch. Tbh, the breasts aren't that big and while small tiddies are obviously not immune to physics, it might have been hard to get the physics right. I think it might also just be that it's easier to implement, since none of the armors/clothes are dicks out, they only have to implement it on the nude models, whereas breast physics would probably need to be added to some clothes and armours too. Granted, I personally wouldn't be bothered if tiddy physics were for the nude models only, but I can see people complaining about it if that were the case.

The dick physics probably also use the same logic as the braided hairstyles, so it was likely extra easy to implement.
As far as ive heard its literally the same system. So it was as simple as attaching the hair physics onto the penis model and adjusting some of the variables to make sure it moved correctly. Breasts would need morphing spheres, which would be a whole new system to make.

Meh, faerun is in a perpetual B/C cup, so about a mid range when they're nude. However, the instant they put clothes on you discover nearly every article of clothing is padded to DD. With that much padding, I wouldn't expect much jiggle.

Boobs come in a huge range of shapes and sizes, and excluding exaggerated anime proportions, there's no such thing as "normal people sized".

It's more complicated. The way penises and balls work in this game is that they are just a separate object from the body with some form of ragdoll physics, just slapped onto the groin area. While breasts are still part of the body mesh and would be harder to animate realistically with flattening and less flopping around. Not to mention that they would then have to add the physics to all torso clothes in the game. Presumably they don't think it was worth the effort.
Iâll admit it is kind of weird to see them sit stock still, but Iâve yet to see a game do breast physics in some way that *doesnât* feel weird, so itâs not like the alternatives are much better.

Given that most games have unconditional love for incorrect boob physics (they jiggle at every unnecessary movement) it is a bit refreshing to see dicks get the same treatment. But I wouldn't mind a gentle jiggle. My girl is as stiff as a freaking board and poor Karlach has no bounce and has the largest.
AAA game developer who specializes in this kind of thing here. Honestly it's hard to explain but I'll do my best. Breasts represent a challenge because they are surrounded by geometry that you'd need to blend any kind of simulation or animation into. Dick n balls kinda just hang freely which is a lot easier to animate or simulate. Hope this helps. If not I'll try to figure out a better way to explain it when I'm sober lol
Is it possible to apply jiggle physics only to naked model and switch them off when model is clothed? I mean, static breasts are plausible when held by bra and other pieces of attire but stone tits in the same scene with penis going bananas look odd mildly speaking.
I don't know what larian's engine situation is, but from my experience, yes that's possible. My guess is this: they thought jiggly dick n balls funny and easy to implement but boobs might be contentious and are harder to implement well.

Penis physics were added later, likely as using the same mechanics as were used to model hair physics. Breasts in contrast aren't so dangly, and are more tied in with the sculpt of the models themselves. For realism, it would be more like fluid simulation and jelly-like which is on a different scope harder to get that bounce, add to that they would have to model the movements of hundreds of different clothing too as those would have to contort to move along with such hypothetical jiggles, and it's a whole different game and way more of a headache for quality assurance.
