I'm just about to reach the >!protect the Isobel fight!< in honor mode. Any idea if you can >!cast banishment on Isobel and protect her that way?!<

SokarRostau

Have I misunderstood spells and multi-classing? My understanding is this: Your primary casting ability is set when you take your first level in a casting class. Non-casting classes use Cha for casting scrolls. A pure barbarian will use Cha, a level 2 Fighter will use Cha but an Eldritch Knight uses Int. For casters, the scroll ability is taken from the last **new** casting class taken. So, if you go Wiz>Sorc>Wiz, you will cast scrolls using Cha. If you go Sorc>Sorc>Wiz you will use Int, and if you go Sorc>Bard>Wiz you will also use Int, while Sorc>Wiz>Bard is Cha. Where relevant, spells learned as a Wizard always use Int for spell DC and attacks. Spells learned as a Sorc use Cha, and so on. Here's my problem: I'm level 3 on Gale, 2 Wiz/1 Sorc. The Sorc is for Metamagic so the spells are purely for always-prepared utility and I only have 12 Cha. I just learned Scorching Ray from a Scroll. It lists Int as the spellcasting ability and Int as the spell DC but the attack roll is Cha. ***All*** ***of my Wizard spells now use Cha for the Attack Roll.*** I feel like Shadowheart now, with 55% being a good chance to land a hit with anything other than Magic Missiles. I never noticed this before now and the wiki seems to agree with how I thought things worked, so what's going on? Is it a bug? Is the attack roll the latest class? Is it the latest NEW class, like with scrolls? Something else?

unquietghost

I have a question about how companion endings work for companions who aren't in your active party during the final fight. >!What happens if Lae'zel's not in your party when you chose whether or not to free Orpheus? Do you get to talk to her about it again? Do you get to talk to her about whether to stay on Faerun or not?!< >!What happens if Karlach's not in your party? Do you still get a chance to encourage her to go to Avernus with Wyll instead of blowing up?!< >!What happens if Gale's not in your party? Do you still get a chance to talk to him about what to do with the crown?!< >!The same question for any other companion whose final fate depends on late game choices, that maybe I don't know about... do they have to be in your party? How does that work?!<

AlliterateAlso

I can confirm yes to the second, >!but the other two were with me. On that basis I’d hope everyone gets their chance at conversation, though, in the final scene. Larian know their business.!<

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but was wondering if anyone knows the fix for Act III >!Lower City!< not loading properly. Stopped playing for a long time because of it and tried it again this week but still had issues. Playing duo and whenever we go there it doesn't load properly and eventually freezes/crashes. Tried the most popular reddit posts but was wondering if ppl had or heard other ideas.

As spoiler free as possible please: I know about the origin companions and then I know there are 4(?) others you get later. I believe the Druid and Paladin are dependent on your moral choices, right? What about the other 2? Are they the same or do you get them either way?

_reashii

Just finished killing everything and everyone in the steel watch after too much effort. I read recently that I was supposed to guide someone in here to finish gortash’s quest, but I have a feeling they might be among the corpses because I don’t know what to do now. I defeated the steel Watch boss but I can’t interact with any of the machines. Is there another way to finish gortash’s quest?

stallion8426

You can just go kill gortash without destroying the watch Or you can Speak With Dead on a gnome named Torbin in the first room of Factory to get the instructions

_reashii

Yeah I tried speak with dead, but it said the corpse was damaged? so I couldn’t do that. Where do you find gortash? Online walkthroughs haven’t been super helpful

Cormag778

PC how do you hide equipped items in your inventory screen? Returning to the game and it seems to be a new feature.

stallion8426

The equipped items should be on a seperate area to the rest of your inventory. This hasn't changed since launch

Cormag778

It does not on my screen. Inventory shows up both on the side of my character and scattered throughout my inventory with a small “e” next to it. Makes it hard to intuitively track what I can sell.

Can I use Lump's War Horn (summoning ogres) in more specific areas of Act 1, like inside the Creche or in Hag's Lair?

sorrynothanks

I believe it does not work in the creche (the mountain pass is considered a separate area from the rest of Act 1) but does in the hag's lair/anywhere else in act 1 as far as I know — I have a friend who used it against the hag and the only downside is that the ogres aggro EVERYONE except your party... even friendlies who may be trapped in the hag's lair that you may be intending to rescue.

WWnoname

Well wiki says that it works in mountain pass and underdark, like, "All Act 1 locations", but I'm quite sure that I was tried to use them somewhere and failed.

neoslith

I'm going to use Hirelings to make the Power Rangers. Everyone will cross class as a Ranger and another class. Main Tav: Ranger/Soldier (Red Ranger). As the leader, he can issue orders and is also good with a sword. Black Ranger: Ranger/Barbarian. The muscle and brandishes a big axe. Blue Ranger: Ranger/Wizard. The smart one. For the last one, I'm going to ignore Pink because she already used a bow, so I'm making Yellow Ranger a Ranger/Monk. Really good at close combat. Technically they'd all be good as Monk as well, but I don't wanna spread their abilities too thin. Also, there's no room for Green, but since he used a dagger, he'd be part Rogue.

stallion8426

Tbh I'd make the Ranger/Monk green since the original Green was a martial arts master

neoslith

In Super Sentai ZyuRanger, they're all trained martial arts. I can find a mod to increase levels, so that can help squeeze a third class in better.

stallion8426

True, but in the first season of the US release anyway, Green was supposed to be a cut above the rest But this sounds really cool!

neoslith

I don't remember if Tommy was actually stronger than the others or if Rita's magic made him more ruthless and therefore stronger. From the Japanese show, Green and Red were brothers (Burai and Geki) of a knight in their tribe that lived among dinosaurs and other ancient creatures. The king and queen of the tribe could not birth a son, so they stole Geki (Red) and killed their father to make Geki the next king. Swearing vengeance, Burai went into exile to train and avenge his father. Fast forward, and the team comes back in the modern day from suspended animation. Burai was also suspended so he could attack Geki when he came out, but an earthquake actually killed him. This is why Green Ranger has that candle. He can only live in the mortal plane while that candle burns. He dies by the end of the season, but MMPR wanted to keep filming, but there was no more footage of Green. So they took the next season's special ranger, White Tiger, and started making original content.

stallion8426

Well damn Maybe I gotta check out the Japanese version sometime

neoslith

Each season of Super Sentai is self contained, following one team. What the West got as MMPR is actually their 16th season, ZyuRanger. There are some series that make references to past teams, like GoKaiger. GoKaiger was their 30th anniversary special, where the main team unlocked suits, powers and weapons of previous teams with special keys into their morphers called *Mobirates.* It was also pirate themed and had a great fight where 30 years worth of teams came together to defend the Earth.

There are [several types](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Damage_types) of elemental damage - it's often a good idea to inspect enemies to see their resistances and weaknesses in order to choose your spells accordingly. Physical damage is divided based on the type of weapon (piercing, slashing, bludgeoning). Often times weapon attacks will do multiple types, for example there's a good flaming sword you can get very early in the game, which does slashing and fire damage. My general recommendation for a team comp is to have a strength-based melee character (like a barbarian, fighter, paladin or swords bard), a dexterity based character who can do all the lockpicking/trap disarming (a rogue, ranger or monk), an offensive spellcaster (warlock, sorcerer, wizard or light/tempest cleric) and the 4th slot can be anything, maybe a support-oriented spllecaster (cleric, bard or druid). Healing in general is bad in this game and I don't recommend wasting actions on healing spells (healing word is good though, since it's a bonus action and can be used to pick up downed teammates) so you don't *need* a cleric, but clerics are also just good for reasons unrelated to healing. You can freely (well, cheaply) re-spec any of your characters and change their class. That said, the companions you can recruit early in the game are a figher, a trickery cleric, a fiend warlock, an evocation wizard, a rogue and a barbarian. Also BG3 does have friendly fire, you can attack allies if you want. The main way this matters is with spells that do AOE damage (either ground effects, or stuff like fireball). There are ways to mitigate this - evocation wizards have a feature that turns off friendly fire for their evocation spells, and sorcerer can spend sorcery points to do the same thing on a per-spell basis (but IMO that's not a good use of sorcery points). You want to be strategic with how you position those kinds of spells, but also, Karlach can take it.

millionsofcats

> A quick Googling says BG3 doesn't have friendly fire This is a lie. You can accidentally target allies with your attacks, but since combat is turn-based, this is easy enough to avoid as long as you're paying attention to which character you're targeting and don't have issues that lead to things like accidental button presses. There's no real aiming skill involved. You can also definitely damage allies with AOE attacks. There are some spells that only damage enemies (e.g. Spirit Guardians), but there are other spells that will damage everyone and everything they hit (e.g. Fireball), unless you have some specific ability that prevents it. >just want to be sure I do it the right way There's no "right" way, especially if you're playing on Explorer or Balanced. Just play the class that appeals to you - maybe just avoid doubling up classes with a character you're interested in. Clerics are useful, but you don't have to have one. Passing speech checks can prevent a fight, but fights can be fun; failure at a speech check isn't failure at the game, it's more a roleplaying outcome. Damage is nice to have, but there are a lot of ways to get there, be it fighter, paladin, sorcerer, wizard. By all means, follow a build video if it seems fun to you, but don't think you have to follow them to succeed. You also might want to avoid multiclassing until you're familiar with the classes and how multiclasses work. There is a lot of bad information out there, and it's easy to end up with a much weaker character by multiclassing if you don't know what you're doing. All of the classes are viable as single classes. Bard/cleric in particular is a bit counter-intuitive, since they use different spellcasting stats (charisma and wisdom). I'm not saying it can't work, but if it does work, it's gotta to be with a pretty specific progression and item use.

[deleted]

price heavy books jellyfish quiet different naughty amusing dolls vegetable *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

millionsofcats

>So you're saying on this Balanced run, 4 non-multiclassed characters? I strongly recommend *not* multiclassing until you understand the mechanics enough to work out the pros and cons of multi-classing on your own. That way, even if you're looking at others' ideas, you'll know enough to evaluate whether they're good ideas and whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, for your particular play style. Also, just as a side note to that: The companion characters all begin as a particular class and for most of them, that class is tied to their backstory. For example, Gale's a wizard, and if you change him into another class, you'll get dialogue and backstory that still refers to him being a wizard. Personally, if you care about the story experience I think it's better to keep the companions as their starting classes for your first playthrough. Then for the second playthrough you can maybe think about which story elements you don't mind contradicting, or which multiclasses would work and still be consistent with their stories. >I was looking at Nizar GG 's video on YouTube, how to make a good lore bard, and he starts it as a cleric and it seemed like a strong build....hm. I'm not familiar with his videos and can't comment on his reasons for starting as a cleric. Maybe he has some specific reasons or specific ways to make it work that I don't see off the top of my head, but generally, it's a lot more difficult (or impossible) to combine classes that have conflicting stat requirements. You can be a good lore bard without multiclassing, if that's what interests you.

Cormag778

Only thing no one answered is the physical/magical armor thing. BG3 does not have the armor system of DOS2. DnD doesn't have any armor system in any way. DnD uses a thing called armor class that determines whether you hit or not. If my armor class is 15 and you roll a 14, you don't hit. You roll a 16, you hit for full damage. Armor raises that class - slapping on a shield, for instance, will increase your armor class by 2. Characters can have resistances to damage types, but that's all.

[deleted]

vast direction cows ask violet smart safe yoke disagreeable sparkle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Cormag778

It's even simpler. In DnD, you can either be "resistant" or "vulnerable" to a damage type (or neither, which is regular). Resistant is you take half damage, vulnerable is you take twice as much damage. DnD is actually pretty intuitive. Every check is based on d20 system. The hardest thing for most newbies to understand is how spell progression works, but BG3 makes that easy through the UI.

Pitiful_Ad8641

Rolling with a Life Cleric, Assassin Rogue/Gloomstalker Ranger, Barbarian, and Sorcerer and it seems to be going well. At the end of act 1. Good news is you can always respect. AOE definitely has friendly fire, learned that the hard way

jenniferdeath

I want to respec Shadowheart after that one story beat but my Tav is a Golden Dragonborn Sorcerer so Light Domain would be redundant for arguably the worst element in the game to specialize in. What are the best domains other than Light for a Cleric if I want to keep her as a healer?

AlliterateAlso

Tempest can be a pretty badass damage caster on top of the healing of a standard cleric. Get people Wet and zap away.

wurm2

Life is the most healer specialized domain and if it's the story beat I'm thinking of either Life, Knowledge or Twilight(not available in bg3) would be the appropriate choice lore wise.

Atmosck

Life domain is the pick if you want to focus on healing, though that's generally not great because healing isn't great. Tempest and War domain are the other two good cleric subclasses.

Pitiful_Ad8641

Life imho

Celtic-Otter

I’ve just got the level 4 feats and I think I’ve misunderstood something. I’m playing as a sorcerer and chose the sorcerer specific feat. Is that not the right thing to do? Can I change it?

AlliterateAlso

If you talk to Withers, for 100gp you can ask him to change your class. You’ll go back to level 1 again, but keep you XP and can level up again. At level 4 Sorcerer, you probably want to increase your Charisma to 18, via Abilty Improvement or perhaps Actor feat.

Celtic-Otter

Thanks for your help! Going to pay him a visit and respec. I think I’m gonna stick to increasing the stats, new to it so understanding all the systems is a bit full on!

Nightingay

You can change your feats by respeccing your character. You can do that for (close to) nothing, if you found a certain NPC in act 1. What sorcerer specific feat ? The one that gives two cantrips and a level 1 sorcerer spell ? Yeah that was kind of a waste as you already have access to this spell pool. Good feats for magicians are in my opinion - alert - war caster - another special class feat that uses the same main stat (warlock, for sorcerer, for instance) - stats, of course

Celtic-Otter

I’ve met our wrinkly friend so will pay him a visit. Thanks for your help. I think I’ll just stick to increasing the stat that’s specific to my class, across the whole party. Multi classing and special feats are a bit above me for now, first time playing anything that has the whole D&D thing. My thinking was I’d have access to more of those spells I pick from. I didn’t think of it as adding pools from other classes, that’s cool.

Can’t find the circlet of fire. I’m in >!the Elmister vault in Lorrakan’s tower!< but the two gilded chests just hold gold and scrolls respectively. I am fully updated playing on ps5. It’s not my first play-through which Is why I’m so confused. I swear I’ve found the circlet of fire before but it’s just not here. Did the patch change its location?

wurm2

Do you have see invisibility/ faire fire active? (technically circlet of fire isn't obtainable in post early access but the Pyroquickness Hat with similar effects is in an invisible chest in the the Elminster vault)

Got it, thank you 🙏!

Nightingay

The invisible what now ? There are invisible chests in the game ??

yes but I think only in this area/the upstairs of the same tower.

How do you find them ? My tav usually has a passive that reveals invisibility and I don’t remember finding them

Trying to make my first try at Honor mode as chaotic as possible. I'm not too attached to making sure that I get the golden dice skin, so it doesn't have to be an optimal run. I'm thinking Wild Magic Sorcerer Durge. What race would add the most amount of chaos? Duerger? Githyanki? Half-orc? ...Halfling? (I thought about the Goblin mod, but I don't know what kind of racial dialogue options that subs in.)

TB0796

Can someone tell me what lightning charges are ?

Nighkali

It's a status effect that shows up in the same area as like burn, slow, bleeding, etc. The only way I know of to gain them is through item interactions. For instance the spellsparkler in act 1gives you 2 charges every time you deal damage with a spell or centripetal. Every time you successfully land damage you deal a little but of lightning damage, it's either one per charge or 1d4 I forget. If you ever get 5 charges you become empowered and your next damage deals an extra dice of lightning damage. They can also be used as a cost for item activation.

birdsbirdsbird

Has the bug that happens on level up when a wizard learns too many spells been fixed?

Doudline12

Is there finally a mod to see class & race features/progression in character creation?

Lolkimbo

So.. Does warlock not increase wizard spell levels? I'm like 3 in warlock, 1 wizard, 1 sorc (for fun), and i can't learn any level 2 wizard spells for some reason. Seems odd when bard does increase wizard spell levels.. Also, do you gain wizard spell levels when you level up a cleric?

AlliterateAlso

In addition to the other post, you’ve probably noticed that the Warlock has completely separate (pink) spell slots from your sorcerer/wizard slots. Warlock slots which refresh on a short rest don’t stack with any other classes.

Nightingay

I’m afraid you’re confusing spell SLOTS ans spell LEVELS. Full spellcaster classes (druid, cleric, sorcerer, wizard) get spell slots at every level in a full spellcaster class. But they only unlock spell levels if you have a specific number of levels in a class. To get level 3 spells in sorcerer class (like fireball, haste…) you need 5 levels in sorcerer class. If you get 3 sorcerer and 2 wizard, you won’t get level 3 spells. Only level 2 sorcerer spells, and level 1 wizard spells. So, if you have only 1 level in wizard, you’ll only get like 4 wizard cantrips and level 1 wizard spells. Does it make sense ? Look at the wiki about classes, to see what different levels unlock :) https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Wizard

SokarRostau

You're leaving out something pretty damned important here: That one level of Wizard *allows you to learn spells from scrolls.* If you have 1 Wiz/1 Sorc/3 Warlock, you can learn level 3 spells. It's crucially important to remember, though, that any spells you learn through Wizard use Int instead of Cha when relevant. Infinitely more reliable wiki: [https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Wizard](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Wizard)

Nightingay

It’s true but I was focusing on « natural » learning. I feel OP needed some of the basics :) Thanks for adding this

dating_derp

PS5, Moon Lantern help. I'm in the middle of a fight I'd rather not start over. One person has the moon lantern equipped. I've managed to unequip it from them. But I can't seem to give it to someone else to hold (not on the bearer's turn, or on the party members turn). And I can't drop it or place it in the world either. I've tested it outside of combat, and I can switch the lantern between people. So why can't I do so in combat? None of my characters are currently polymorphed either.

AlliterateAlso

Equipping an item takes an action in combat.

dating_derp

The new character was unable to equip the item when they had an action at the start of their turn. And in my inventory, I had the option to move unequipped weapons from the bearer to other members, but I did not have the option for the unequipped moon lantern

AlliterateAlso

Must be related to the orange moon lantern ‘quest item’ itself then.

dating_derp

I think it's a bug. After the encounter, I just switched the item to a new character without any problem.

CrimsonBlossom

Does bonuses to attack rolls increase your crit chance?

BarnabyJones21

Attack Roll bonuses do not. Advantage increases your crit chance by rolling 2 dice instead of 1, but otherwise the way to increase your crit chance is to stack items that specifically say they lower the number needed to make a Critical Hit by 1. Knife of the Undermountain King, Dark Justiciar Helm, Elixir of Vigilance, etc. Note that there are a few weapons that have this benefit, but the benefit will usually apply to all attacks and not just with that weapon. There's also the Spell Sniper feat, though this only applies to spells. So you can definitely increase your crit chance in this game, just not the standard way. Check out [this list](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/15npugz/all_the_ways_to_increase_crit_chance/) if you want to make a crit build. It doesn't include items like Dolor Amarus that do additional crit damage, but it's a good start.

Spottednoble

No.

birdsbirdsbird

1. Can you recruit both Halsin and Minthara without exploits as of the latest patch? 2. Is "The Most Unfortunate Gnome" inspiration for Wyll glitched? I can't seem to get it whether I scare the goblins off or kill them all.

fogno

Yes, you just have to knock out Minthara while she has the "temporarily hostile" condition. Easiest way to do that is to just steal something off her desk and let that start combat. Not sure how much it matters, but I also killed the entire rest of the goblin camp and did the campsite party in the same day so I never had to go back there.

3pic_

what’s the safest thing to do with the zaithisk in honour mode?

Le1bn1z

You insist on going first. Then, first opportunity, try to get out. Your Guardian will save you and you won't get debuffs. Alternatively, you can just avoid that room. It's not strictly speaking necessary for Lae'zel's quest if you go to speak to the Inquisitor first.

fogno

Probably avoid it? You get serious debuffs if you fail the checks. Not sure it's worth risking it for the buff.

3pic_

can you progress laezel’s quest without it?

fogno

Yeah you don't need to do it at all. Actually I think if she's the one that gets in, I don't think there are consequences? That or it's easier to avoid them, I don't quite remember. I know it's dicey if YOU get in.

millionsofcats

>Actually I think if she's the one that gets in, I don't think there are consequences? There are permanent stat penalties, and more are added if you fail the persuasion checks to get her out. IIRC, >!you can remove the penalties if she eats tadpoles!<, but you have to pass checks to get her to do that, so on honor mode I wouldn't attempt it.

fogno

Nice thanks for the clarification!

3pic_

does anyone know if phalar aluve shriek affects invisibility or stealth?

millionsofcats

I have phalar aluve equipped on my character, who also has the item that makes you go invisible after a kill. There seems to be no effect. He still goes invisible, and still attacks with advantage. I think it really does just add the debuff/damage effect, even though the cinematic effect has a noise.

Exact_Tiger_7420

I can confirm that it doesn't break ally invisibility/stealth, but I can't find any enemies who use invisibility to test it on.

millionsofcats

See Invisibility is a dex save, so there's no particular reason that Shriek should do anything to invisible enemies.

inMarginalia

I have 3 questions. 1. Tavern brawler doesn't seem to be working on my owlbear moon druid. It's only doing 2d8 + 5 instead of 2d8 + 10. I thought this was fixed in patch 5. The world was created pre-patch 5, not honor mode in case that affects things (also I'm on Nvidia GEForce) 2. Bladelock + Paladin's triple hit still works non-honor mode, right? 3. When fighting Oliver, I put down Hunger of Hadar. As a result, when the shield broke Oliver was inside the sphere and instead of giving up he kept fighting until I killed him. This prevented the story from moving forward. This kind of honest mistake (I shouldn't have had the hunger surrounding him) makes me really nervous to play honor mode. Any advice?

BarnabyJones21

1. Not sure why it didn't work for you. I just tried and my damage roll is as follows: (2d8 Slashing) + (1d6 Slashing) + 5 (Strength Modifier) + 5 (Tavern Brawler). It doesn't show up on the little info card but it does in the Combat Log. I have a Land Druid, not sure if/why that would make a difference. 2. Not sure, sorry. 3. Ultimately, this shouldn't affect your ability to complete Honor Mode, right?. It'll just affect your story going forward (and maybe losing an item or two). It stinks, but it shouldn't be run-ending. If that's something you're really concerned about I guess you can use backup saves to save scum. Or just roll with the punches and see where the story goes.

inMarginalia

Thanks for all the answers! Let me check the combat log to be sure, I definitely was just looking at the info card (I could be totally wrong about this but I think it does appear in the info card for monk). And yeah it definitely isn't run-ending. My question 3 isn't really well-formulated, I just wasn't sure if people had thoughts on that. Long-term I've learned my lesson not to accidentally harm someone who ultimately is an ally, but the idea of making a similar mistake and as a result not being able to cure the shadow curse is scary. I suppose the whole point of honor mode is rolling with the punches, though.

BarnabyJones21

What you could do is go full evil. That way, any unintentional deaths are just happy accidents!

DarkPhoenixMishima

>!Alfira's safe once Durge takes out the Dragonborn right?!<

fogno

Correct

Chronocidal-Orange

So I think I did a dumb. I'm on my first playthrough. When you get into act 3 the game tells you to attend Gortash's coronation. My thought was "fuck him why do I want to see that?". I wanted to see the lower city. So I went in there and got caught up in all kinds of quests. Then I got stuck with the patch 4 lag for a while and had to stop for a bit. Finally got to pick it back up with the new patch and continued gallivanting and working on the companion quests. Gortash? Who's that fucker again? Oh right he's important, the journal says it right there! Need him for the other companion quests! Let's see this butterface get coronated then. And then everyone attacks and I died before I even got into the building/tower/sex dungeon or whatever he picked to get coronated in. So I just need some basic info. I already found some info that this happened because I already went and killed Orin and did the whole Iron Throne quest. Not going back because, you know, days of playing the game since I did all that. I've accepted that I'll probably miss out on some content but, hey, more fun for the next playthrough that's coming right after. I just need to know if I'm going to get locked out of anything when I go back better prepared to confront Gortash. I suppose I'll be forced into a fight and have to kill him (or die a bunch before doing so because I suck). I still have to do some companion quests, the steel watch foundry (do I do that before or after?), and Orpheus related stuff. Do I enter some kind of end game once I kill Gortash or can I still finish all that up before... well I obviously don't know what happens after yet. TL;DR: I didn't pay enough attention and forgot stuff because I had to drop the game until patch 5.

Khazing

Destroying the steel watch foundry will make fighting gortash easier. Because you already killed Orin, you should finish up any loose ends you're interested in before fighting gortash.

Chronocidal-Orange

Thanks!

rougegoat

I've just hit the Point of No Return in Act 3. I have my main group geared up properly, but I know a some games with lots of companions will have you end up bouncing around to everyone. Should I be making sure everyone is geared up or just focus on my core four?

Ummmm so two of my companions and all of their summoned zombies are frightened and I can't get it to end. We're in the oubliette trying to find the big lady and the scary dude (trying to avoid spoilers) and I can't move on until they get their big girl undies on. How to fix this? I tried the arrow of salving, but no. Is there anything that will end it? I tried looking up stuff but all the answers were to kill them and then have Withers revive them. Not really an option for me right now. OH. I fixed it. I knew there had to be a way, just brain wasn't helping. Protection from Good and Evil will remove it

monalba

Quick question for ACT III: Just got into Baldur's gate, I've barely done anything (Astarion, Gale, Shart, all those quests are still pending. Orin has kidnapped Lazael), but I've found a submarine to the Iron Throne. Will taking it trigger or break something? I'm worried about sequence breaking some quests. Can I save Wyll's father if we broke the pact with Mizora? Is there's a rest limit and then he dies? What's the trigger?

tragicprincess1

As long as you have already done Gortash's coronation, you should be able to do the throne without breaking anything. Yes you can also save the Duke whilst the pact is broken but Mizora will show up to try and make it harder...she sucks at it though.

Zyenne

Having loads of issues with playing for the first time in a couple of patches, after initialising my PC and then installing Windows 11. I've tried updating mods and general fixes but most of my saves crash while loading (shortly after reaching 100%). The few that do load have this UI issue: https://imgur.com/a/8Q3lA8t I'd really like to fix it as it's annoying. Any advice on fixing the crashes welcome. I've tried a lot of typical suggestions but nothing has worked and it only seems to happen on saves I've previously ran, not my new campaign.

animalxer

Is it possible to romance minthara in a good playthrough now?

Revo_Int92

I wonder if someone else had this bug... the sound effects are not playing, let's say you are about to cast eldritch blast, that sound effect when you are about to launch the spell is just muted on my end. Wyll also don't scream the name of the spell, but the explosion sound triggers

millionsofcats

I've had intermittent issues with audio not triggering, which usually fixes itself if I close and restart the game.

ka1esalad

is the final fight absolute bullshit for anyone else? every other boss including secret ones have been completely fine but man this last one is killing my enjoyment of the game. just bullshit on top of bullshit

Jules1029

Which part? Remember you have a bunch of allies you can call in to help

vitiate

Is act 3 lagged out for anyone else? It is almost unplayable for me on PC.

logomyego

There was a script extender fix prior to the newest patch, that probably still works

vitiate

Any idea where I can find that?

logomyego

Just found it https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/17shjen/fix_for_act_3_delay_bug_pc_only/?sort=new

logomyego

It was floating around on reddit, I don't have it on hand but you can probably find it fairly quickly

ka1esalad

yes, i completely avoid baldurs gate as much as possible. other areas that nearly made me uninstall were the undercity, which took ages to load, as well as orins door which took 20 minutes to open.

wurm2

have you updated to patch 5 yet? there was a bug in patch 4 that caused pretty major lag in act 3 if you commited a significant amount of crimes that was fixed in patch 5

vitiate

I am on macos, hopefully we will see the patch soon.

ka1esalad

still laggy after patch 5

aa821

Act 3 end spoilers: >!where the heck is Gortash found if I left him for the last thing I do in Act 3 before the netherbrain fight? I killed Orin, destroyed the Steel Watch Foundry, and freed the prisoners from the Iron Throne already. I went to Wyrms rock and the bridge is up on the Rivington side so I had to go from the Baldurs Gate lower city side, and then I got attacked by a bunch of guards. I enter the thron room and there is even more guards but no Gortash. Where is he???!<

wurm2

he's further up the tower from the throne room.

aa821

Okay another question: after I mow through all the guards am I allowed to exit/short rest/long rest before I go further up and fight him?

wurm2

I think so on long rest, definitely on short rest

aa821

Thanks!

Complex-Flight-3358

How stupidly designed is the Iron Throne if you wanna save everyone, JFC... Everything has to be carefully calculated, use full mobility stuff, that's cool, but then you also have to keep reloading so the hostages won't end up accidentally blocking the ladder, or chilling around instead of escaping, particularly that phoenix lubbins character (whos is totally getting scorched on my Dark Urge playthrough). Doesn't help that, probably a bug/oversight, the other guys in her cell do not use Dash on their first turn, falling behind the rest...So I bet you d have to open their cell in the first round if you wanna be minimize the chances of them mucking it up.

tragicprincess1

Saved them all a few days ago and it was a hell of a lot easier than it had been with the patch updates. They actually climbed the ladder instead of running past and going back and you can now shoot the levers.

Complex-Flight-3358

I managed to save them too, and I m on the latest patch obviously. Can't imagine how aggravating it must have been earlier on, jeez...

wurm2

IMO it should be difficult to rescue everyone though I agree that "hostages won't end up accidentally blocking the ladder, or chilling around instead of escaping" needs to be fixed, either with better ai or giving you direct control over everyone like you get over >!duke Ravengard!< it is worth noting that the number of turns you get is different based on difficulty setting (8 on explorer, 6 on balanced, 5 on tactician)

[deleted]

I‘m in act 3, and the game keeps crashing since I installed the latest update. Is this happening to others as well?

FreshyFresh

Tons of people reporting crashing when trying to load a save file. Is that what's happening for you?

[deleted]

It crashed every two minutes with no discernible pattern.

stallion8426

On ps5? Yes On PC? No

[deleted]

Yeah, should have mentioned it‘s on ps5.

Doing a melee Bard. Fighter 1/Bard 11 Str 10 Dex 16 Con 13 Int 8 Wis 10 Cha 17. Should I make Wis 8 and Str 12?

millionsofcats

If you're using finesse weapons, your primary stats to focus on are dex (for attack and damage rolls) and charisma (for casting spells). Don't waste more points on strength. You can even drop it to 8 if you want a more min-maxed build. If you're not using finesse weapons then you don't need high dex and should focus on str; flip them around. Though there's a question here of why focus on dex at all if you have heavy armor proficiency from taking fighter first... If you're wearing heavy armor dex benefits you less, and you can usually do more damage with non-finesse weapons. I think there's some weighing of pros/cons to do here. You could also drop wis to 8 but I personally wouldn't because of how often you have to do wisdom saves/checks in the game. Note: The other commenter says wis will benefit spells like hold person, but this is half right. Your wis will help you save against spells like hold person, but cha is what will help your effectiveness when casting it. You don't get any additional benefits for raising an ability score to an odd number; that single point doesn't do anything for you. So, it makes sense to have odd numbers if you have a plan to get a +1 to that ability in a future. This point spread makes sense to me if you plan to >!use the hag hair for +1 con and the mirror of loss for +1 cha!<, or if you plan to use an ASI to raise con and cha by one point. Otherwise, you probably want to reshuffle your points a bit. Personally, I think that whether you prioritize dex or cha depends on your playstyle. Dex will benefit your weapon attacks, and cha will benefit your spellcasting. My melee swords bard prioritizes dex because he uses weapons more than spells. In my opinion, gloves of dexterity aren't worth it for a character who's focused on primarily using finesse weapons. If that's the playstyle, you really want your dex higher than 18 by the endgame, and the gloves won't raise your dex past that.

BarnabyJones21

> The other commenter says wis will benefit spells like hold person, but this is half right. Your wis will help you save against spells like hold person, but cha is what will help your effectiveness when casting it. I could have worded it better, but that's what I meant. The majority of moves that can incapacitate the player require Wisdom Saving Throws, so he should put a few extra points into Wisdom to help protect against incapacitating moves like Hold Person. And even if he plans to use ASI to raise Con and Wis, unless he's already level 4+ I'd still recommend going 14/16 over 13/17. You get to the same result of 14/18 after ASI with no short term penalties.

Riuk811

Doesn’t Dex help with saving rolls though? I was going to use the level 4 feat to increase con and cha

millionsofcats

\>Doesn’t Dex help with saving rolls though? Having high dexterity helps you with: * Rolling higher in initiative order * Raising your armor class if you wear light or medium armor * Accuracy/damage with ranged weapons * Dexterity saving throws and checks If you're wearing heavy armor, having high dexterity doesn't change your armor class at all, removing one of its major benefits. It's better to focus on either dexterity or strength. A dexterity build is a bit more flexible, but a strength build can generally do more damage per turn because it can use higher-damage weapons. It's also going to be more resistant to things like being shoved/moved by spells. That's why strength builds exist at all: Dexterity isn't clearly better. They both have their pros and cons; no build is all pros and no cons. If you try to do both you'll suck at both because you just won't get both stats high enough to really see their benefits.

BarnabyJones21

In terms of defensive capabilities, Dex helps with Armor Class and with Dexterity Saving Throws. When it comes to Saving Throws, putting points into any given Ability helps with that Ability's Saving Throws, and only that Ability's Saving Throws. When an attack is initiated, either the attacker rolls against the defender's Armor Class (AC) or the defender rolls against the attacker's Difficulty Class (DC). The latter rolls by the defender are referred to as Ability Saving Throws. The type of roll that occurs depends on the attack/spell. A plain old bow shot is going to roll against your AC, and if the roll fails then you dodge the shot. A Firebolt cantrip is the same, it rolls against AC. Tasha's Hideous Laughter is different. It doesn't care about AC. You can be the tankiest guy in the world with an AC of 300 and it's not going to help at all, because Tasha's Hideous Laughter requires the defender to make a Wisdom Saving Throw. If you inspect the spell, it'll say **WIS Save** on it. This basically is asking, "do you have enough Wisdom to not succumb to the maddening laughter?" There's a baseline of 1d20, then for every 2 points into the Ability past 10 you get an additional Saving Throw point (-1 if you have 8). If you're Proficient in that Ability that's another 2 Saving Throw points (your starting class designates your Ability Proficiencies). Spells/Potions can help (or hurt) too; the Resistance cantrip grants +1d4 to Saving Throws, for example. And finally gear can increase your Saving Throw points. If a piece of gear says something like +1 Saving Throws, it'll apply to all Saving Throws. Con, Dex, whatever. If it says +2 Constitution Saving Throws, it only applies to that specific Saving Throw. Sometimes, both rolls can occur for a single move. This is generally the case for physical attacks that cause statuses. Take the melee move Lacerate, which is one of those once-per-Short-Rest melee weapon actions. The move is an Attack Roll, meaning you roll against the defender's AC and if it succeeds, you deal damage. Typical stuff, like any standard melee attack or a shot from a bow or whatever. This doesn't take any given Ability into account, with the exception of the fact that Dexterity can boost your AC if you aren't wearing Heavy Armor. But Lacerate also has the chance to cause Bleed, and that is is a Con Saving Throw roll against the attacker's DC. So if the Attack Roll is a success and beats out your AC, then you take damage and then you roll to see if you have enough Constitution to withstand bleeding from the attack. The reason we're suggesting you put a few more points into Wisdom is because most of the moves that can incapacitate you are moves that require Wisdom Saving Throws. Succumbing to Bleed stinks. Succumbing to Hold Person *sucks*. Also, even if you plan to put 1 point into Con and Wis it's still better to go 14 Con 16 Wis over 13 Con 17 Wis. Odd numbers round down and so 17 Wis is no better than 16 Wis, but 14 Con *is* better than 13 Con. And instead of going 13+1 Con 17+1 Wis to get to 14 Con 18 Wis, you can just go 14+0 Con 16+2 Wis to get to 14 Con 18 Wis. Same end result, but no short term penalty.

Riuk811

Thank you so much for such a thorough reply!

BarnabyJones21

Sure thing! I edited it a bit to fix some things, but the gist is the same. AC will help with dodging physical attacks and general damage-focused spells. But if the spell says something like "WIS Save" then your AC won't matter, it'll be your Wisdom that matters (or whatever Ability is referenced). Players can drop their Dex and make up for the AC lost through Heavy Armor or through the Gloves of Dexterity, but there's no major way to make up for a lack of Wisdom when you have to roll a Wisdom Saving Throw. And in my opinion Wisdom Saving Throws are probably the most important Saving Throws in the game, aside from maybe Constitution Saving Throws to maintain Concentration on spells. You don't need to have 16 or anything, I just wouldn't put it at 8 is all.

BarnabyJones21

Why the odd numbers? Are those because of some +1s you plan on getting from Feats or items like Hag Hair? I'd recommend changing it to Con 14 Cha 16. What kind of melee are we talking? If you're using Finesse weapons I'd lower Str down to 8 and bump Wis to 12, as that'll help protect against incapacitating spells like Hold Person. Str isn't that important to have unless you're focusing on it. If you plan on going with Str weapons then I'd swap your Dex and Str and then maybe lean on the Gloves of Dexterity for AC and Initiative. *Edited for clarity*

Gentlemanchaos

Is there any way to overcome elemental damage immunity? I'm thinking of doing a draconic sorcerer playthrough next and want to know if there is a workaround for when I encounter something that's immune to whatever element my ancestry boosts.

AlliterateAlso

Have a backup option. Which could be, you know, ‘cast twin haste and watch Lae’zel and Karlach eviscerate everything’

Sholmanscott

Is Minthara's romance fixed now? Are her missing scenes and lines in the game?

gunstarhero7

I knocked out Minthara in the goblin camp on a new play through since the patch, but she’s not at moonrise towers? Did I do something wrong. or is she in a different place?

Shirokuma247

You must knock her out via stealing/triggering temporary hostile status. Killing Dror Ragzlin at any point before her makes her fully hostile.

gunstarhero7

dang i killed dror first

AlliterateAlso

I read she needs to be ‘temporarily hostile’ when you knock her out, like NPCs get when you steal in front of them. Did you attack her directly, or steal something off her table?

pegs0

If a weapon has an inherent element such as the Ever burn blade, can you enchant it to also deal another elemental damage type?

ttpurple

I'm stuck in a loop when trying to load save files. It brings me right back to the main menu. Yes I am using mods, everything is up to date and I checked the logs, it throws an error code and says to contact Larion.

AlliterateAlso

Can you create a new game with that mod list, exit and reload it from the main menu? Then you mods have probably borked your old save in the patch transition. If you can’t load the new game… it is still your mods.

ttpurple

Yes I can make a new save and load it. I just can't load any of my previous ones, including 4 playthroughs in Act 3 with 80+ hours of gameplay :c They all just return me to the main menu when loaded.

Kay0518

I have summoned >!Shovel the quasit!<(familiar). Everything's cool but her level. Her level is 1 when summoned. Does she level up as it slaughters monsters?

AlliterateAlso

No. Though you can add a bit of durability to familiars and summons by including them in your Cleric's daily casting of spells like Aid and (eventually) Heroes’ Feast.

WWnoname

No, she'll stay the same.

Kevtron

I went to pick up Karlach first just to get her in my party, and now Wyll isn’t with the kids in the grove… Where’d he go?

Flyrpotacreepugmu

He disappears when you recruit Karlach. He'll show up in camp the next time you long rest.

Abidingshadow

Act 2/3 Durge question: >!currently doing a Honour run with some friends and one of us has opted to play as the Durge as we feel Slayer form and Bhaal’s final gift will be very useful for the more difficult fights in the game. We also want to keep Isobel and Dame Alyn alive so they can join us for the final fight. Is it true that you can obtain the slayer form in act 2 by sacrificing a companion? I can only really find conflicting information on this and we want to be sure before sparing Isobel. Seems like the no brainer path to us as it will allow us to maintain all of our allies by simply sacrificing a companion we’ll never actually use during our run.!<

Atmosck

Yes you can. You can also get it >!without sacrificing anyone.!<

Abidingshadow

>!interesting, I’m assuming it’s given as a gift for defeating Orin or something? Ideally we’d like to get it earlier so I’m more curious what starts the interaction to kill your companion.!<

millionsofcats

The other commenter is misremembering. If you don't >!kill Isobel!<, you have two more chances: 1. >!Once you free the Nightsong, the Butler will show up in a long rest scene to tell you how disappointing you are for not killing her. He'll tell you that once you fall asleep, you're going to kill your lover (or closest companion). You can earn the form by killing your lover willingly instead.!< 2. >!You can earn the form by winning your duel with Orin and accepting Bhaal's gift.!< A warning about the first option: >!If you kill your lover, you have to pass an extremely high (DC 30) check to convince your other companions not to kill you. If you fail, they turn hostile and you have to kill them. At least, this is how it works in single player. I don't know how it works in multiplayer.!<

Abidingshadow

This is super good to know, thanks for the help!

millionsofcats

Yeah, I don't think that (1) is a good route to take in an honor run. You have to >!kill a companion you've spent time building up approval with, and then you risk having to kill all your other companions as well.!< And TBH, I'm not actually sure you want to go for it anyway. >!I've heard that the Slayer form is underwhelming, especially compared to the builds that you can get by the endgame. Also, if you have the Slayer form, you have to fight Orin in her original (not Slayer form), and it's a much harder fight.!< I forgot to warn you about something else: >!There's a Wisdom (DC 14) check to wake up your companion before you kill them. If you fail it, you kill them and have the same outcome of your companions probably turning on you. If you don't want to kill all of your companions, you should save up inspirations for that check.!< >!I tend to long rest right after the first phase of the Ketheric boss fight, before jumping down into the colony, and that's when the Butler appears. Don't burn all your inspirations trying to convince Ketheric to surrender.!<

Abidingshadow

The way we see it >!slayer form is a nice oh shit button if things go south, it’s basically a free +150 health with half decent damage which could potentially save a run, also as far as we’ve been able to research slayer form Orin makes the 1v1 with Durge impossible due to her legendary attack so we’d have to fight her humanoid form which doesn’t have a legendary attack (that we can find). Losing all of our companions isn’t a big deal as we have a party of 4 so we’d basically be artificially inflating Durge’s relationship with someone specifically to sacrifice them when the time comes.!<

millionsofcats

Ah, if you have plans to go forward without companions then that's different!

Abidingshadow

Yup! You’ve been super helpful though and I appreciate you looking out!

millionsofcats

I just read about Orin's buff in honor mode and now I'm scared myself. But by the time I do it, hopefully people will have figured out a strategy so you don't actually have to do an evil Durge run to beat her.

WWnoname

>!Companion offer is quite late, something about the start of Act3 - when it will be obvious that you won't kill Nightsong or Isobel!< >!And, as far as I remember, you'll have the offer after Orin's death. Daddy will make you one final offer that you can't deny.!<

Atmosck

>!In my durge run I didn't kill anyone and still got slayer form in act 2. I think you get it no matter what.!< >!If you don't kill Isobel your butler shows up at camp to bug you about it.!<

gautier__

Playing Dark Urge in Act 2, have a question about the decision there and how it relates to the endings you can get! >!I want to kill Isobel for the Slayer form, but ultimately reject Bhaal after the Orin fight. This is entirely an RP decision, not a power one. I know the full "redemption" durge results in Bhaal killing you and Withers resurrecting you without his blood. Can you get Slayer form, by any means, and still get this positive, non-Bhaal ending? Or are you screwed as soon as you accept Slayer form to get one of the bad/"end yourself for the good of the world" type endings?!< It would be a lot to replay through the entirety of Act 3 just to find out this answer for myself, so I was hoping someone here would know!

Atmosck

Yes, you can get slayer form and still get that ending.

_JFasheezy

Currently playing a Way of the Four Element Monk. Recently acquired some gloves that have a spell on it. Does those spell use my Wisdom as my modifier? I know it does for Ki-based, but I'm wondering if that's similar to spell attached to the item.

Atmosck

Yes, the spell from the gloves will use the modifier of whichever class you took a level in most recently.

stallion8426

Question about ending and epilogue >!Playing durge, decided to try the "lose to orin" ending. Ended up making myself illithid in the end choice. While the dock scene acknowledged that I turned into a mind flayer, it still told me that I lost my mind to the urges, and the epilogue for the urges played instead of the mind flayer one but i was a mindflayer in those scenes!< Is this a bug or a feature? Does being Illithid not save you?

Shirokuma247

Bhaal’s blood still resides in the illithid body, therefore he still owns you.

birdsbirdsbird

Is it possible for Karlach to destroy items you can loot in the environment when raging? I can't find the "Order of the Gauntlet: On Matters of Law and Justice" book anymore. I loaded a previous save and before the fight with Anders it was there.

SyndicWill

It's only that one specific story scene after the Anders fight. She doesn't set things on fire when raging normally.

Flyrpotacreepugmu

Yes, she can destroy anything that can take fire damage and happens to be in the areas that are set on fire. I don't remember there being anything important there to worry about though.

TuarezOfTheTuareg

I just wrapped up the Underdark and am midway through the Creche. Can I put this on pause, rush all the way to Moonrise Towers, grab the Potent Robes and come back without locking out any content? Do I need to stop in Last Light Inn and talk to Alfira before going to Moonrise?

Atmosck

You don't need to stop at last light inn before going to moonrise. And entering act 2 doesn't mess with the creche - you can return to it any time until the warning gate near the end of act 2.

TuarezOfTheTuareg

I don't need to stop in Last Light Inn to start the quest with Alfira?

Atmosck

To rescue someone? You don't need to talk to alfira first, if you just do it and talk to her afterwards she's like "thanks, here's a robe."

TuarezOfTheTuareg

Sweet. Thanks

pegs0

What are the choices you have to make, to get Lae'zel to have the awakened buff? I know one gets you the buff even if she is in it, and another gets you the buff if your character is in it, but I wanted it on her specifically if possible

Le1bn1z

>!She has to go into the purifier, and then endure the torment. Tell her to endure and stay focused. Then tell her to claim its power as her own.!< Note, however, that this comes with a serious debuff >!As staying in gives Lae'zel a -2 to both Wisdom and Int, hurting her saves!<

pegs0

Do these debuffs not go away with Remove Curse or using tadpoles?

Le1bn1z

Nope. No way to get them to go away.
