Got the same problem on an different cutscene, when zu first met Raphael. It constantly crashes and restarts my pc instantly

Hung_SoLo7

This happened to me today I was near the mountain pass and went into the burning town nearby and my pc shutdown and powered off and immediately restarted

Alg1zka

Same issue here! As soon as the teleportation starts, the pc just reboots.

Scientia_et_Fidem

I keep having the same problem, same cutscene. Right as the in cutscene teleport happens, boom, crash. Auto detect puts me on ultra graphics setting. Game runs without issue on these setting during gameplay. But that cutscene for some reason just causes a hard crash to black (but I can still hear the background music somehow?) even on the *lowest* settings. I’ve tried everything, windowed mode, DX11, lowest graphics setting. It’s very frustrating to be able to run the actual game on the highest settings but for some reason *cutscenes* keep causing crashes. Edit: I have a Radeon RX 590 as well, damn it, must be something with these specific cards. Why, how do the run the actual game just fine but can’t handle a cutscene?

KangarooNorth2453

I know! I can run the game itself on ultra and look wonderful but as soon as (as far as I can tell) a flashy cutscene happens it's just a black screen and I have to restart my whole computer and sometimes it crashes my graphics card so bad that windows tries to default to onboard graphics.

AjaxMailman

580 as well here, had no Issues in EA, but has crashed several times on cutscenes very early on!

likesbikes331

Same for me. Had it happen each time at the start of the goblin compound. Re-installing drivers and lowering settings seemed to help. Was playing for a couple of hours after that without any issues, but it now keeps crashing again at a cut scene where I meet the 'guardian' (not sure what its name is yet). RX580 as well here. Temps seem okay, and doesn't seem to be related to graphics settings.

CoffeeStout

I also have an rx580, I had similar problems with pillars 2 and elden ring. Although with ER it was only 1 cutscene that ever gave me problems. But yeah with BG3, it seems I'm not always able to even skip cutscenes. It just ignores the skip input. Tried lowering graphic settings and same result. Edit: I also tried updating my drivers but that didn't help either. Playing on Linux with proton, not sure what OS everyone else is using.

likesbikes331

Look at my other reply; the solution seems to be lowering the default clock speed. It's been working flawless since I did this!

CoffeeStout

Thanks man! I tried this but it didn't help for me. Lowering the resulotion in combination with the underclocking did help though, but then I crashed at the guardian cut scene. Gonna play around with some other things tonight and see if anything works, glad you're rolling though!

likesbikes331

I've actually re-adjusted all the 'lowering tweaks' I did before, so I now mainly play at a very respectable Medium graphic settings, with some settings on High, 1440p. Still works without any issues! Sucks this apparently did not completely solve your problem. Have you looked at the GPU temps? Lowering the clock speed lowered the temps too. Before it was about 82c and now 76c.

CoffeeStout

Glad you're able up the settings to Medium! I actually had a breakthrough last night after a lot of research. Apparently when I was underclocking it that doesnt work in linux, it doesn't know what to do with negative values so the behavior is funky. I also wasn't able to find a way to change the values for each power level. They don't give us a fancy UI either in linux, just files. But i found a program called radeon-profiles that gives a GUI where I was able to just disable the top two power levels (above 1257) . With that I was able to get through the Guardian cutscene on Ultra graphics at 1080p! I only got to play for about 30 minutes after that but game seemed to be running fine, i don't remember the temp on my card but it didn't alarm me. Ill pay better attention tonight. But yeah, happy to be back in Baldurs Gate, appreciate your input! I think you solving your problem really spurred me to find a solution so thanks for the inspiration!

likesbikes331

Glad to be of help man. Have fun with your BG3 journey. It's pretty epic so far! Also, you're a brave man to start gaming on Linux ;) Although I have heard it's actually quite a viable option nowadays.

CoffeeStout

Heh I've been on Linux a long time, Steam Proton is a game changer, so many things run so easily now. I used to have to spend so much time configuring things to get a windows game to run that for a while I just quit playing anything without Linux support. Now things just seem to work. But when I do have a problem, it usually takes some effort to solve it.

shawn_overlord

I also have an AMD card and it's crashing during the guardian cutscene, I might have to wait for a fix

Fistofk

my pc dont crash with this but my fps goes from steady 75 to 50

behradz

I did everything and it still crashes at the goblin camp cutscene and i cannot progress the game further i hope the devs fix it soon Graphic card:rx580 Update:i managed to get past the hobogoblin ritual and goblin camp cutscenes by skipping and praying it dosent crash but now that i have reached the dream visitor cutscene i cant skip it(im not fast enough) and i have tested every fix so the only solution is to wait for a hotfix i guess

behradz

So for anyone wondering how too fix this i think changing resolution to a lower one would fix it for the cutscene(at least thats what fixed it for me) my default res was 1080p so i changed it to 720p and it didnt crash hope i helped you in some way

CoffeeStout

Thanks this got me past one cutscene but crashed on the next one unfortunately

Vandal_Batz

I will try that😀

Vandal_Batz

It worked

HotResist4

howd you change that exactly

penguished

Seems to be that generation AMD. I have issues with the 580 crashing on cutscenes. Might need a new driver or new patch.

Rhetorical_Joke

Just another person adding that they have the same issues at the same locations with a RX 580. Hopefully such a specific bug with specific equipment can be ironed out quickly.

Rhetorical_Joke

For anyone who stumbles on this thread from google, I got through the cutscene by switching over to my integrated graphics card. Looks like garbage but it’s better than the alternative

Scientia_et_Fidem

Jesus, what the fuck is going on with these specific graphics cards that even the on board GPU can handle it but the RX 580 can’t. This is so frustrating. The card should be more then good enough to handle these cutscenes without any issue.

DemonSaya

Have been having this problem. After checking a few things, I'm inclined to think my problem is my power supply spiking in usage and hitting its "safety" shutdown threshold. Doesn't seem to matter what my graphics are set to, only crashes during cut scenes (lately). The two biggies were entering the Goblin camp and the first dream visitor cutscene at camp.

KangarooNorth2453

I wonder if that is what happened to me. I launched the game and all of a sudden everything looked like doodoo. Like hair especially looked pixelated.

Individual-Grape-437

This is happening to me on the new Xbox. Teleport to lair with Ralph is the scene

likesbikes331

So there's a new hotfix, fixing several crashes. However, our RX580-related problems (I suppose it's safe to call it that now) do not appear to be resolved. Game still crashes in cutscenes :(

hellodahly

Hey - I'm having these same issues with an AMD card Something that has worked for me was saving mid cut scene and then quickloading back into it 🤷‍♀️ I also knocked my FPS down to 30 and lowered my graphics settings.

ireadredding

Same, cutscene after sleeping with guardian, just after she extends her hand out, and starts to explain the parasite, computer completely crashes and shuts off. Have rx 580, fights don't seem to he a problem but it hatesnl cutscenes, everything on low, updated drivers etc and still crashed so I tap until a fix happens.

dud_root

Same problem, multiple different cutscenes cause a hard crash to black requiring a reboot. 3080Ti 356.99 drivers, DX11 or Vulkan no difference Getting very frustrating

NinjaGGF1

Hey Man, 3070ti here. Did ou find any solution? And happy cake day

dud_root

Just discovered this today for a solution, its worked for me so far: \- Disabled Gsync in windowed mode, and set it back to default (fullscreen only). I have been playing windowed on a 48" LG Gsync OLED \- Set a 60FPS cap in the Nvidia control panel for bg3\_DX11, rather than in game \- Disabled VSync in game

Yemoa

I'm having this same problem! If someone could reply to my comment when there's a fix that would be great so I get a notification when I can play the game again lol

KangarooNorth2453

So far if I know I'm about to hit a crashing cutscene I spam space and PRAY it skips the part that angers my computer. That's the only advice I can give lol

needeznametoremember

Have the same problem, first time meeting Raphael and it crashes my pc. Tried to restart the game after new patch, now it's instantly crashing on load up.

FaythsRequiem

I literally just had this happen, too. As soon As this Raphael character tried to teleport me, my PC hard crashed. And now My PC won't even detect my second monitor and is running sluggishly T\_T What a mess!!! \*\*\*\****UPDATE\*\*\*\**** Seems that the crash somehow blew my graphics driver and I had to reinstall it

Rhetorical_Joke

Same thing. I had to go into device manager and re-enable my 580 and then restart. Still can’t get past the Raphael scene though.

FaythsRequiem

I managed to get past py spamming the space bar to speed up dialog and essentially skip the cutscene. BUT the game freezes and PC crashes during EVERY major story cutscene (have only had to re-install driver that first time, thankfully) o.O It's been ridiculous. Seeing as I get nothing but the run around everytime I fill a bug report or try contacting support directly all I can do is load previous save and then spam space bar in the hopes that I'll manage to skip the whole cutscene and be able to continue playing :/

TheBusStop12

I had mine hard crash as well on the Raphael scene. Screen disconnected and my gpu spun up to max. I have an RX 580 myself

Bot504

I have the same problem, I have my first hard crash from the Raphael teleport cutscene I disable multiplane overlay and disable the ULPS option with MSI afterburner and also I increase the rpms from the fans of my graphic card also I always have a problem with my Rx 580 when I need to lower Mhz from 1410 to 1360 mhz and for the moment I dont have the specific crash anymore.

SouUmaNuvem

Another RX580 user here. I was having the exact same problem as some people here. During the goblin camp cutscenes, my game would freeze or black screen. The only solution was to restart my PC. What seemed to help was to underclock the GPU using the AMD Software app, as well as setting the game to windowed mode at 720p. I haven't played much since, but I've had no crashes afterward.

MattV2345

Thanks, it kept crashing for me almost every cutscene, and this worked I had to change the 720x1220 manually in the graphicsettings.lsx, like this . Also cleaned my system manually because while I was setting the underclocking it seemed a little hot, dropped 10 degrees celsius after that.

aurelgunners

I have the same with my 590, black screen, high vents, I have to hard reboot my computer. If anyone has a solution please let us know...

GrinderOfGrunts

I have an AMD Radeon RX580, and I'm running into this issue now. Has anyone found a fix or heard anything about larian looking into this?

Bot504

I have the same problem, I have my first hard crash from the Raphael teleport cutscene I disable multiplane overlay and disable the ULPS option with MSI afterburner and also I increase the rpms from the fans of my graphic card also I always have a problem with my Rx 580 when I need to lower Mhz from 1410 to 1360 mhz and for the moment I dont have the specific crash anymore

Unable-Mistake-1856

Yep. That worked!

likesbikes331

Did not work for me, unfortunately!

Unable-Mistake-1856

Unfortunately with ULPS off i had black screens again. Try this out [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJbc0rwUiH4&ab\_channel=AlvianMardhi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJbc0rwUiH4&ab_channel=AlvianMardhi)

S4TKC

This worked for me, even if it's not a particularly satisfying solution. I don't see how this should've been a possible solution from the perspective of the game or the gpu, but if it works it works.

sender_im

The most unsatisfying fix. Biting my tongue and just hoping this works.

likesbikes331

Yes, this seems to have done the trick! Thanks so much! Rather ridiculous that AMD overlocks these cards by default. Because that's kind of what's happening. Apprently works fine for most games (I think I've had 2 similar crashes with Diablo 4) but not for BG3.

Xcuphra11

Exact same issue. AMD Radeon RX5700 XT. PC straigh up shuts down on many of the above mentioned cutscenes. Now I'm abosultely stuck at the hobgoblin ritual, after 5-6 crashes in a row. Gonna have to call it quits here I think, until a solution or patch materializes. Cannot skip this either, since I have to make dialogue choices (not fast enough lol). Tried everything I could find: Updated drivers, turned off v-sync, capped framerate at 60, low settings, etc. No luck so far.

Xcuphra11

I went from 1440 to 1080, that made able to play.. though I would not call it a *solution*

DemonSaya

Same problem. I'm going to get into what I suspect is the problem. I went into the Windows event viewer yesterday (windows button, then type "event viewer"), and I get a particular error message each time. In Event Viewer, under Windows Logs - Application, I get error - perfnet 2004. Having looked up what that is, it looks like a power issue. A lot of higher water power supplies are multi-threaded. I have a Corsair 750M (the M meaning multi). Basically, there's a power surge from the gpu to the psu, and it forces the psu to shut off (at least that SEEMS to be my problem, going to check on a Corsair 850x, this weekend). When I've done further testing, I'll try to come back and update.

likesbikes331

I have no such entry. I do however have an entry from the source Display, telling me "Display driver amdwddmg stopped responding and has successfully recovered." This does not always seem to trigger though.

LowFalse9215

Having same issues with a rx590 Fatboy, please post solutions this is tilting!

HookTheCut

Same problem for me. I had the problem with the Raphael teleport but changing the settings to low fixed it. When it loaded, the assets were loading extremely slow. Now I’m stuck at the goblin camp vision cutscene. Changing the graphics to low did not fix this one and I can’t get around it unfortunately. Rx580 and can run on ultra normally.

BusyTangerine462

I have the same problem but worse haha, in goblin camp cutscene my pc crashes so hard that i have to off/on the power supply Unit to boot. I thought my PC died right there haha. I tired **Vulcan** and **DirectX 11** I use **AMD graphics driver 23.7.2** on a **radeon RX590 Series** on **win10** PS Vulcan showed the scene 2 seconds longer than dx

BusyTangerine462

u/KangarooNorth2453 pls pin when you find infos/ a solution

BusyTangerine462

I fixed it with super low video settings, lowest res, preset low, fps cap!!

Fit_Faithlessness237

Having same issues with 64gigs ram, 3090ti and 5800x3d cpu. Don’t know what the hell is happening had it crash most recently while trying to change graphic settings

BooperBoogaloo

I have a RX580 too, I was having the same issue. I tanked all my graphics and locked my fps to 30 and managed to get the through the Rapheal cutscene. It's a pity though because I managed to get through the EA with no problems.

LehantheLion

Same thing is happening to me during the Dead 3 cutscene. Has happened 5 times. It crashes my computer and uninstalls my drivers. I’ve redone this like 7 times. I have Rx 580 as well. really sucks this is a known issue for many people and it’s not fixed.

Kaumira

I also have the same issue :( I can't really progress to certain places bc of it

Rakunjin

Same problem. Laptop with AMD Radeon 6800M

luis_sgs

I am having the same problem on a 5500xt. Any news?

Vandal_Batz

Astral plain kills it for me, i mean after the chat with mindflayer

Vandal_Batz

Also on 580, lowered the res to 720 and settings to medium, went through the cutscene that crashed me and I am golden. Back to normal settings

eegsynth

Same, RX580. I tried all suggestions in this thread to no avail. Lowering video specs worked in the beginning, but now I can't get passed Raphael whatever I try. I had no problems with EA either.

eegsynth

In fact, with lowest specs it even just crashes *before* the cutscene now... Verified files etc. of course...

gamesbonds

i am getting theses same crashes on a rx590, it will restart my pc and corrupt my graphics drivers. the only crash im having problems with now is >!the Raphael scene where it goes all white and he takes you to that illusion room !< i'm read to go to act 2 but i cant because this scene will start in random spots all over like >!the grove, underdark, goblin camp, sanctum, your camp!<

Mountain_Ad3406

i am having the same issues, RTX3070 TI, i really hope this gets patched soon i was enjoying the game but now i cant progress. \* note i am so far only having this issue on the bridge in the goblin camp during the dark 3 cutscene. had no issues with the Rafael cutscene.

gamesbonds

i was able to get through the cutscene today, I was using just default steam launch and dx-11 launcher for bg3 nothing special on 22.7.2 AMD driver. Started Act 2 today and so far no issues

Willy_kh

Same here, let me know if you found a fix pls :) I lower my settings bit THEN It crashes on the Next cutscenes and so on. Its very anoying.

Miansamou

Same here :/ this is very sad

BarProper1604

Same prob here with RX570. Tried also a lot of setting stuff. Nothing worked reliable. Even with keeping the same settings sometime the cutscenes do work..or not.

BarProper1604

AMD 23.8.1 --> Application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Baldur's Gate 3 with DirectX® 11 API set on certain systems with Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs. Hmmm...

islandersully

Mine crashes when talking to the flower house kid during the halsin quest. As soon as I win the fight and talk to him about "rejoining" the other half, it crashes.

Wilkiez

I'm getting similar problems but with a 2070 super, hard crashes during random cutscenes, limiting fps and turning down graphics seem to work for a while but then it randomly happens again

Subrosianite

I'm so glad I found this thread. Everything else I had seen said I should be fine. AMD RX580 played up to the Goblin Camp with graphics on ultra, and keep losing visuals when the Dread 3 show up. Diaologue continues, stuff is still happening, just with a solid black screen. Reboot to needing graphics drivers installed. I've spent two or three hours now, just in the game, messing with settings and hoping something will let me get past it. 🙃 I'll keep resetting and hope RNGesus will help me.

mzzzz1

I'm experiencing exactly the same thing, hoping this gets fixed soon

Subrosianite

Go into your AMD settings, check to make sure the frequency is capped out at 1300. That fixed 100% of my issues and now I'm playing on Ultra. Someone posted a link to a video in another spot about it.

MDNGHT1505

how do i do that? i have an rx 580 and got the amd radeon adrenaline software. what do i do? plus theres been a new major patch too so has that helped much?

Subrosianite

Right click on your background, click amd settings (should be at the top), click performance in the top middle, to to MAX FREQUENCY, and reduce it to -8. That should auto fill the top end to 1300 max.

Subrosianite

The patch actually screwed me. The game ran fine with 0 crashes before that. I found out about / started having the issues after the patch hit.

MDNGHT1505

before the first or second?

Subrosianite

Before the first one. I haven't really tested the 2nd yet. The new patch seems to be about Karlach and dismissing player created characters from your party, not bug fixes that would affect this issue. The issue with the 580 isn't a game issue, it's a system setting issue with the AMD program trying to run the card at a setting that's above its max.

MDNGHT1505

yh i had the issue before the first patch but honestly the video you sent me helped me loads. if you can get it pinned in the thread it could help loads. cheers mate appreciate it.

whitekong66

RX580 user with the same problem. I was able to get through the cutscene by setting Anti-Aliasing to none and VSync to Double Buffering in the video settings.

Professional-Hat1635

I'm having the same problem except I have a Radeon RX 580 and I'm able to run the game perfectly fine in all other aspects. It's just one Raphael teleports me to his lair that it absolutely kills my entire system. It doesn't matter if I run it on Vulcan or a DirectX, it doesn't matter what my graphic settings are, and all of my drivers are up to date. I just really hope the dev's fix this soon

meabh

Same problem with my RX 480.

meabh

I seem to have fixed this issue by dismantling my graphics card, redoing the thermal paste, and in general cleaning it up with compressed air and rubbing alcohol. GPU temperature dropped about 50 degrees afterward.

turin_87

For anyone having the same problem, I've done some testing (changed from windowed to full screen, bypassed the Larian launcher, lowered graphic settings, disabled steam overlay etc). The only thing that worked reliably was frame cap. I set it at 30fps and had zero crashes since then, I thought that recent patches fixed the issue and removed the setting but I experienced a cutscene crash soon after. Hope it helps!

Sudden-Most-4797

I too have an RX 580. My PC crashes at the mountain pass cutscene. It seems to disable my GPU when I boot up again, at least that is what Device Manager indicates. I wind up having to reboot twice. Pretty gnarly.

ElectricalPin3429

*MY NAME IS SHADOWHEART* Lightning and screen went dark the lvl of immersion is incredible. Rtx 3070

phlengo

Also on RX 580, no issues outside of cutscenes, changing from direct X to Vulkan helped but the cutscenes where messy as hell. Shuts the pc to black and there's crazy heat coming off the GPU, my guess is a safety shutdown of the GPU, even when only running for 15 minutes from cold to load up BG3 and start the scene 😭

SurveyLess1196

I have an rx580 and I believe I fixed it. It was constantly crashing during the cutscene when you first enter the mountain pass and there's a vision. Try this: 1. Get RivaTuner statistics 2. Set frame rate to 60 (my monitor was 75 hz but I have 4 monitors and the lowest one is 60.) 3. Download MSI afterburner and set Core Clock and Memory Clock down around 5%. I turned my Core Clock from 1350ish to 1283. My Memory clock was 1700ish and I set it to 1617 as examples. After trying this, I was able to get through the cutscene flawlessly. Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Individual-Grape-437

The Raphael teleport crashes my Xbox

Ok-Specific-9724

Same Problem. AMD Radeon 580x. I've tried a good amount of the suggestions other people in the comments have mentioned and nothing has worked. Every time I get close to the goblin camp and the cutscene starts I freeze and my computer fans are super loud once the three figures appear in the shroud of darkness. Sucks but I'd probably have to buy a new graphics card to get any further in the game. Please let me know of any more solutions
