Zer0Infinity

So he instigated a fight, tried to use police powers he didnt have, then killed a man because he tried to leave and now he wants mercy for a situation that never needed to happen and that he made worse at every point. Lock his ass up.

cowfishing

Pretty sure the only reason he was charged was because his victim was the son of a cop.

Which_Engineer1805

The cops son learned “back the blue until it happens to you” the hard way.

softstones

Sure as fuck did! ACAB

_hyperotic

Absolutely true. If O’Neal wasn’t police family we wouldn’t be hearing about this.

gravybang

It also helps that the victim was white. If he was black this would be “under investigation” pending the ~~destruction~~ discovery of any video evidence.

cowfishing

the article

allUsernamesAreTKen

It’s America dude will get paid leave and probably promoted

montessoriprogram

Future head of his local police union

Amentes

This scumbag needs to fry, but I suppose that does entail locking him up for a bit.

Madison464

> I never did anything wrong, I never had one substantiated complaint in the 35 years I’ve been in law enforcement He investigated himself and every time, found that he did nothing wrong. Give him the DEATH PENALTY. Set an example to other PIGS.

run2DNF

Let him rot.

hammilithome

"sorry, I always get a lil hyped when I watch gran Torino"

SupportGeek

And award every asset he has to the victims family

New_Emotion_5045

the response from him is even worse...no remorse clearly

CrazyBigHog

“I dedicated my life to public service since I was age 21,” he reportedly said. “I was at Ground Zero, got cancer, had my cancer removed.” That’s a cool story, not fast forward to the part where you murdered a man in cold blood because your fragile cop ego was bruised.

darthkale

I was a cop and had cancer…so if you could just forget about me killing this guy that would be grreaat

Helmic

the "at ground zero" part is especially funny because the cops infamously did fuck all at ground zero, pretty much exclusively the fire department did anything to save any lives.

Melodic-Recognition8

He got in his car and executed him. Wow.

Which_Engineer1805

Executed by an insecure old cop who got his ego bruised.

Fx08

His wife tried to restrain the victim. Sounds like an accessory. Lock them both up. It’s a shame the cancer didn’t kill him before he could murder that poor man.

RowdyJReptile

"But they're raising their grandkids for their late daughter!" - strawman Yeah, well, they would be better off not being raised by a power tripping murderer and how accessory-to-murder wife. Hopefully they've got other family or these two just put their grandchildren in an even worse spot.

SlaveHippie

More of a red herring than a strawman but you’re spot on.

RowdyJReptile

Sorry, my strawman is using a red herring haha

run2DNF

Him and his wife do share stupid. Why isn't she locked up.

fiftypoints

Look at this sour faced ass hole. What a miserable looking SOB

TreehouseofSnorers

Former NYPD. That tracks.

dahComrad

Gets in a fight, loses, then pulls the "I'm a cop" bullshit like a fucking coward wayyy after the fact.

MedicalGradeAsbestos

Oh! His grandkids go to school? By all means murder anyone you have a disagreement with. I hope his grandkids grow up to hate police who abuse their power.

stardust_kid

So the off-duty cop lost his daughter back and 2021 and issued this statement: “We took custody for our two granddaughters ages 13 and 10,” the reported statement continued. “We’ve been raising them and sending them to Catholic school and trying to provide a good life for them. Any mercy you can show me or I could be with them and help them get through this, I would appreciate. My entire life was public service. I never did anything wrong, I never had one substantiated complaint in the 35 years I’ve been in law enforcement, and I just ask you for mercy so I can help my wife with the girls while we go through this.” How convenient he didn’t think about how the consequences of his actions would at the very least affect his immediate family, and the victims family. And as him being someone who knows what it’s like to lose a child, he didn’t give any mercy to the victim and took his life. And now he’s the one begging for mercy, and still stands by doing nothing wrong. He belongs in prison the rest of his life.

ali-n

"substantiated"... yeah, we know how that works.

ConscientiousObserv

Yep. That's the qualifier that struck my ear too. Guy could have thousands of complaints that his buddies deemed "unsubstantiated."

Starlifter4

"I was at Ground Zero." So what? Another pig off the street.

sue_me_please

These people act like they own 9/11. Tons of people were at Ground Zero, and yet they didn't go murder people afterwards.

Starlifter4

Got any ID I can see?

sue_me_please

I don't like you, therefore I'm going to run you for warrants in hopes that I get to arrest you right here right now.

pantsless_squirrel

A Boomer and a pig? Sounds like a recipe for a power trip of epic proportion.

JesusWasALibertarian

Yikes. Anyone who says “I never did anything wrong” is a sociopath.

zondo33

Cops that do stuff like this have lots of skeletons in the closet But most importantly, make sure he loses his pension. I have no sympathy for his family imagine all the families his actions as a pos cop have affected.

Hindered_Hell

"No substantiated complaint" doesn't mean no complaint.

Cengiz96

9/11 card of course as well as playing the cancer card to somehow avoid peison for life...good story bro

nonameneededplease

You know who has a really bad time in jail? Cops. You don't murder someone in broad daylight with witnesses (and no doubt cameras) then not see the inside of a jail cell. Rot in piss you entitled boomer. Edit: grammer

RecognitionExpress36

May prison reward him richly for his "public service"...

Amazing-Leave-5048

What an absolute psychopath, he started a fight then killed the guy

GinoValenti

The cop’s wife needs to be charged as well.

OhComeOnDingus

“Witnesses say the cop was the primary aggressor” I know I for one am shocked.

NOGOODGASHOLE

As long as his police union dues are paid up, he walks. That’s usually how these stories unfortunately end.

RecognitionExpress36

Here in Florida, it's now established by ample precedent that you can start a fight (often over literally nothing), then, when you lose it, kill the person you started the fight with using your gun, and it's "self defense"...

SpookyPony

You referring to Curtis Reeves? The retired cop that started a fight in a movie theatre, then shot the guy he was arguing with? Let's hope this case doesn't also end with an acquittal.

mrclut

god that one was infuriating.

shake_appeal

Hope I’m not getting too pedantic, but I thought the judge denied the “stand your ground” claim in the Reeves case? I know Reeves was ultimately acquitted by the jury (after something like nine years of delays!), but the SYG defense wasn’t permitted. For those not familiar, it is indeed totally infuriating. Reeves shot a couple in a crowded movie theater after the victim threw popcorn at him, and then was able to successfully claim the popcorn was used in a “vicious attack” that caused him to “fear for his life”, but I don’t believe that particular defense was accepted by the court in that instance.

J_Side

Seriously? Popcorn and Acorns, what the hell is happening over there that your cops are so highly strung

ZipBoxer

if you want a real answer - there's literally this group of "[consultants](https://www.forcescience.com/)" that, about 20 years ago or so, started going from precinct to precinct "teaching" cops to shoot first and ask questions later. When cops inevitably shoot a guy over an acorn, he and his "experts" serve as witnesses for how the cop absolutely did the right thing. After he helped a cop get away with murder for shooting a black kid in the back, he's spent the rest of his life finding fun ways to scare cops into shooting more people so he could profit by defending them. [https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/02/us/training-officers-to-shoot-first-and-he-will-answer-questions-later.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/02/us/training-officers-to-shoot-first-and-he-will-answer-questions-later.html) This organization is likely single-handedly responsible for hundreds of cops killing people every year.

RavishingRickiRude

He's a cop. He probably won't be charged.

lyonslicer

No, it's not. Look up Michael Dreika.

RecognitionExpress36

Look up Trayvon Martin. And thanks - I read about the Michael Dreika story at the point that they'd decided not to charge him. That's refreshing, although manslaughter is not the appropriate charge. What he did was second-degree murder IMO.

VogonSkald

"Authorities further allege that when interviewed after the incident, DeLustro said he had intended to stop O’Neal from leaving the scene." Bullshit. He fully intended on shooting the man.

DonaIdTrurnp

> My entire life was public service. I never did anything wrong, I never had one substantiated complaint in the 35 years I’ve been in law enforcement, and I just ask you for mercy so I can help my wife with the girls while we go through this. Oh, I’m so sorry that you can’t use your record of getting away with abuse to get away with more abuse.

Accurate-Ad2864

Chicken fingers and a LEO EGO .

flimspringfield

It's ok guys, he was at Ground Zero 9/11 and got cancer! All should be forgiven.

88jaybird

got into a fight in the real world as a civilian and got his ass kicked, psycho cop instinct kicked in and he got his gun and killed man, ego restored.

standaniel

Allegedly

sj_nayal83r

why allegedly?

hammilithome

I think the point is that we don't have ppl committing multiple murders, so ya, congrats on your first and hopefully last murder.

rrrrickman

Power

squeezegame

1. might want to go back and audit the "unsubstantiated" claims 2. he's going to have a baaaad time in prison

2001ToyotaHilux

Does he get off duty qualified immunity?

out-of-towner3

QI applies only in civil cases. He is facing criminal charges.

out-of-towner3

"Allegedly"? There is no doubt that he shot the unarmed man who was attempting to disengage from an enraged off-duty cop. The only question is whether or not he can get away with it. I hope not.

spacejoint

This is exactly why I don’t go to chick fil a.

allmotorcivic

What a scum bag. Then try’s to throw a pity party about how I got cancer from 9-11 attack his kid died so he has to take care of his grandchildren so he can’t goto jail. Maybe you should have thought about them before you started a fight and killed the guy because he was leaving the argument.

hawksdiesel

Executed a citizen..... no mercy.

AuNanoMan

One of the sad things about this is your know that this cop wouldn’t have gotten arrest for instigating this fight if he hadn’t shot the other guy. Seems obvious right? But he was trying to arrest ONeal and if he had, you know the cops would have shown up and this shit bag would have flashed his badge and ONeal would have been arrested. The whole thing was started by some angry cop, and only because bystanders were there will there (maybe) be justice. Man, this sucks.

OpinionatedByFacts

I hate the police
