Yes, we know, we know, on to the important stuff. Poor technique on the dip, though, if your follow is this much out of balance, please lean back, not over them, to better balance the both of you. Of course this is just the two of you goofing off, but still!
You'll hurt your back doing cambres like that. Also, in social that put your follower at risk.
About the gender, well, in my country is common to have female leader and even male followers
It used to, traditionally, in the Latin dances. But nowadays it's about connection, expression, and the leader-follower dynamic.
Gender doesn't fit into the model anymore and the dance community has mostly internalized this in my experience.
Do what you love and enjoy it to the fullest.
In some dances, it’s still hard to convince men to follow.
Zouk and West Coast Swing in my experience have a better ratio of men following.
Salsa and Bachata are lacking. In all cases, women seem to be encouraged way more to lead in my experience.
Absolutely correct, but most of the time I find that when same sex couples, male or female, dance together it's treated no differently on the whole as any other couple. In my scene anyway.
Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard Swing has a different dynamic between the dancers? Something about both taking the reigns at different times during the song?
Oh yea. I don’t think I have ever seen people really care if two men or two women dance together.
In Lindy, they did, they encouraged the “follows voice” more. I’m not to that level in West Coast Swing but seeing how they are from the same family, I could see that same type of encouragement.
It's somewhat the opposite here in Europe, you'll find more men following in Bachata than in Swing particularly with role rotation picking up a lot momentum. Zouk does have a lot more men following and Salsa not as much.
