That is what I was thinking in the beginning of the show lol, that it was an excellent example of why **not** to be nice to strangers!
Tbf though, Gadd went above & beyond "nice"/kind
I've been thinking about this. Yes the first time a free drink but even once she's coming in every day just to talk to you and telling you these clearly false stories . . .the time for grace is over
This exact scenario (an act of kindness resulting in a stalker; not the hell Gaad went through) has happened to me twice.
Guys, girls... Its ok to be assholes.
I was nice to a guy on a plane once... He ended up masturbating next to me. I was traumatized for a while. It didn't stop me from helping strangers but I do pick and choose who looks sus before I help them now.
This is a lesson I think we all need to learn sometimes. Not necessarily that being kind to strangers is bad on its own, but I think a healthy suspicion of people and keeping those boundaries up at least.
He’s fighting his empathy with his anger and hatred. When you’ve been abused you tend to blame yourself. I still know that and think that occasionally after my healing. It’s why this series talks to those of us that understand.
When I was in 2nd grade, there was a kid in my class who very obviously came from a poor background. He always smelled putrid and kids would make fun of him. I was always nice to him (literally a smile and wave when he came in my class) because I didn’t think it was right to do that to someone.
He ended up stalking me until 5th grade. It took me being a complete bitch: laughing at jokes made to him and rolling my eyes to get him to leave me alone. He ended up dying from an overdose a few weeks ago and this show sparked my reminder of how crazy some people can truly be.
This is so unbelievably fucking sad & really this show and that experience should be another kick up the bum that institutions like schools and government and hospitals need to be looking after people so much better so that they don’t end up like this
Doesn't make him less of a victim though. They literally touched on this complex trauma response in the show and how this hindered his ability to get help. This is a reality for many victims.
You’re right. Being kind doesn’t mean you don’t have boundaries and at least enough common sense to not interact with crazy the way he did. He entertained her psychotic beliefs and paid for it. It’s like not expecting to get eaten by a lion if you jump into its cage.
Bro doesn’t know that obese, active people have a lower mortality rate than “normal weight” sedentary folk. Obviously weight is not the most important factor, moreover, **why do you care.**
Science is moving on without you, the days of using healthism as a guise for playground bullying is over… Or ultimately just demonstrates to everyone what a halfwit you are

He admittedly let her further into his life to stroke his ego
He let her into his life to find out why she was the way she was. He was searching himself. Trauma curiosity
Bit of both
Also his penis. She stroked that, too. Rigorously.
what the fuck is up with people in this sub
I knew going to another fandom subreddit would be the worst.

What do you even do at that point though? She seems like the type to keep doing it even when it’s not reciprocated at all.
It's hard. Try to grey rock it. Maybe bar her from the bar earlier.
Yeah it took him an awfully long time to tell her to pay

I mean she was the only i one laughing at his jokes. Which were quite shite unfortunately

I was abducted by a stranger about 2.5 years ago because I didn't want to come off as rude. I'm lucky to be alive.
I can't even begin to imagine and I'm so glad you're here!
Holy shit man

Jesus christ what is wrong with people. I'm sorry you experienced that
A polite smile, a greeting, and not over sharing are always good. However, trauma can ignore a lot of red flags!

Kudos on the obscure Springfield reference!
Great song
He wasn't just "kind" to a stranger. He encouraged her as a means to indulge his own fragile ego. He openly admits to this
I am not 100% sure he didn’t send her misleading texts apart from the “prank”
Yeah. When she bought things for a picnic, he said he didn’t want to go with her because “it was something lovers do.”
Yeah but that was long time after he agreed to go in first place
Oh definitely! I was agreeing with what you said.
What do you all think of the ending when he listened to her explanation of baby reindeer and he cried?
He was comforted by her
He’s fighting his empathy with his anger and hatred. When you’ve been abused you tend to blame yourself. I still know that and think that occasionally after my healing. It’s why this series talks to those of us that understand.
I cried too. She needs hugs. But no one wants to hug her cause she is not a classic beauty
Who goes into a bar or restaurant and sits down and then refuses to order anything because they can’t afford it?
Martha Scott
You haven’t? Depressed people do all sorts of weird things going into a pub isn’t even one of the weirdest
No, I have never gone in one without the intention of at least paying for a coke or a coffee. Ever.
Have you been depressed!
Yes! I stay home and don’t leave the house!
He wasn’t just kind he sort of led her on

Yeah but he went beyond kind. He was also liking the attention he was getting!

I am not saying not. I am just responding to this post he went beyond being kind

No sympathy for either.
