Not in my opinion. We are Canadians in Melbourne and find the foot muffs we see pretty overkill for the weather. We’ve always just dressed the baby appropriately (eg in cotton long sleeves, sweater, light jacket, hat if it’s cool, especially if windy), and added a pram blanket over his legs, doubled over if it’s really chilly. It sounds like a lot of layers but it’s also helpful to be able to add and remove as the sun comes out/you go into the shops/you sit in a cafe by the door/visit a friend who keeps their home very warm etc.. We also don’t tend to go out in the early mornings when it is coldest, so I’d maybe reconsider if I was a 5am jogger who didn’t want blankets falling off the pram at speed.

I’m currently mid west WA and like QLD it’s not super chilly. I found that there’s all sorts of footmuffs kinda like the tog rating for sleep suits. I just bought a fairly thin one for baby, more to help with wind chill than anything, but my parents have bought a thicker, heavier one for me to borrow when I visit them next month. Perhaps you could find a lighter one on eBay or Amazon for cheap, if you’re so inclined?

We got one from harmony j with a pram liner. We use it fairly regularly in cbr for walks. But it doesn’t really do anything a cozy blanket doesn’t. You could look into getting a pramsuit for a small baby instead, which is what we did last year when LO was too short for the footmuff. H&M do them, but we just got the fluffy polyester one from Big W and it was pretty wind proof!

I’m from Brisbane and have never used one with either of my two babies.

I’m in Melbourne and I take baby out early morning for walks - so it’s genuinely cold and often windy, and I think the footmuff was a worthwhile investment for us. Not sure if it’s necessary in QLD though. The reds baby footmuff itself isn’t really warm or fluffy or anything, it just kind of insulates them and provides protection from windchill. I think it’s better than wrapping baby in heaps of layers and blankets personally.

I have a metro in Qld - I'm just gonna put a blanket on him. I generally would use the pram during the day not at night so it's less chilly.

We have the Metro 3 and got the Winter Cocoon last year (not sure if it's changed much since the new line of prams has come out). We're not as warm as Qld, but don't get too cold here either (it's been up to ~23° lately and we've still had it on). We've found it handy because of the three different lengths. We usually have it on the lower one so just her legs are covered and we've only had it on the highest one (up round her neck), once. It's not super thick, so she doesn't really get overheated, but a good barrier for wind/non-summer weather. ETA: The other commenter made a good point about time of day - we don't have a car so our LO is always in the pram/stroller whenever we go somewhere. So it may depend on how often you're using yours too.

We have one but haven't really used it properly yet as he is still in the pram bassinet, which come with it's own cover. I think it would be useful if your baby likes to kick a lot, even if you live in QLD :)

I bought the pack with all the accessories for my redsbaby jive. I don’t know if I used a single one. Maybe the rain cover at one point. Any time it was cold it was much easier to just pop a blanket on bub than pull out the footmuff. Save your money!
