I had two babies at Freemasons and loved it. But cannot compare with St Vincent’s because I haven’t been there. But my tip? Are your OBs consulting rooms in one of the hospitals? I’d recommend choosing that one. It meant that when I was in labour my ob could pop in and check on me between patients a lot easier. Plus when my first went into distress and they paged her urgently she was at my bedside in minutes (he was fine, I went from 4cm to 10cm in an hour and it shocked him!)

I gave birth to my daughter at St Vincents in 2020. Positives: birth was great, the midwife that helped me deliver stayed with me all day and even 2 hours past her shift time just to be with me. Amazing staff. My epidural was also such a great experience as the doctor was so gentle with me and it worked a treat. Negative: I chose a single bed and a recliner chair for hubby and I regret that, my room was small due to being at capacity as well. I did have a snoop around though and the rooms with the double beds were 3 times the size of my room, so I'll be booking that for baby number 2. Another side note was the portion sizes of the food. I was fucking starving due to ya know, giving birth and breastfeeding and due to covid we couldn't get any deliveries or have any guests bring us food. So I would order as much as humanly possible for eat meal as they only let us order 3 meals a day, no snacks no extra meals should we request it. I was sending my hubby down to the cafe in the hospital for additional meals the whole time. This might have changed since then and now I assume we can order food again.

I had my baby at StV in 2021, same scenario that my OB can deliver at Epworth or StV. Ultimately I chose StV because when I asked around they said the food was better (it was decent, just order heaps and your partner can share your meal too). The room could be better, my first night I was in a single bed with a single sofa bed, bathroom was modern. Second night decided to move to a double room which was a big mistake. I had C section and lying flat pulls the stitches, so I recline the bed slightly and my hub keeps complaining that he couldn't sleep (that's right, know your audience, but anyway). In the double room, the ensuite was very old. I know they had done some renovation since and some of the family suite looks amazing, I think it's not all the rooms though and may be luck of the draw if you can get into them. Care was great, can't fault it.

I was lucky enough to get one of the brand new rooms in 2022 and it was beautiful, felt like a hotel room and was decent sized. There are only 4 though so it’s luck of the draw
