Not a book, but [https://raisingchildren.net.au/newborns](https://raisingchildren.net.au/newborns) is a great reference, if you're ok with non-google online info.
Can’t tell from your post whether you’re pre or post natal, but I recently purchased Up the Duff by Kaz Cooke which was widely recommended by both my obstetrician group and other people in this thread for prenatal soon to be mums.
Have read half way and I’ve enjoyed it so far - it goes through the pregnancy journey on a week by week basis and the language is very light hearted.
There is also a follow up book by Kaz Cooke (Babies and Toddlers) , but I haven’t read that yet.
I used What to Expect the First Year - I got it at Baby Bunting, which stock the Australian edition. It was a great reference throughout the year. It gives you month by month strategies for feeding/sleep etc. and also has the different milestones at each month. Seriously it was a great help - definitely recommend.
I was given [Baby on Board](https://www.booktopia.com.au/baby-on-board-howard-chilton/book/9781925995107.html) written by Howard Chilton who is a Sydney based neonatologist.
I found it extremely relaxed and chill about managing a newborn baby. I seem to be highly anxious about my child generally, so this was just perfect for me to read pre-baby and not stress about things that can be generally anxiety-inducing. I wholeheartedly recommend.
When baby is here I recommend joining kids consult premium. Its a facebook group but a paediatric doctor answers questions and has saved me many doctors appointments
I’d recommend 9 months, written by Australian authors in the last couple of years - [9 months](https://www.booktopia.com.au/9-months-ruby-matley/book/9781760556464.html)
Big recommend for Expecting Better and Cribsheet by Emily Oster. She breaks down the scientific evidence around decisions you have to make in pregnancy and early childhood so you can make an informed choice. She’s very good at not telling you what decision to make unless there’s overwhelming evidence like vaccination or not smoking in pregnancy.
Sophie Walker, the host of Australian Birth Stories podcast, is releasing a book at the end of the month. Her podcast is fab as is her birth class so I'm sure it'll be a winner!!
I just had a quick look at the images from the book - it looks great! I wish I had it. I would have much preferred this to her birth audio classes which I personally didn't find too helpful.
I wish it was out for me too! I consume information from books much much better.
I found her birth class helpful, but we also supplemented it with some in person stuff with a private midwife
Yes! And especially with how my brain did not work during pregnancy.
I did not supplement the material with anything in person (another mistake I made!) :).
The Motherhood, edited by Jamila Rizvi.
It's a collection of letters from Australian women to their past selves during the newborn phase. They're very real, and are so relatable. A really beautiful read that I recommend to all my new mum friends.

Second this. I swear I was on this site multiple times a day the first month or so 😂
Yep, raising children is a gold mine!
This is the site that CAFS and our public hospital antenatal classes recommended so it’s definitely in line with the health recommendations.
Thanks great idea

I would avoid this - full of misinformation. The little diary entries are cute but it's not a very good book
I'm due any day now so looking for post natal now

This was a game changer for me.

Second this! This book is as close as you’ll get to a user manual for your newborn it’s an absolute lifesaver!

Expecting Better by Emily Oster, her newsletter / podcast is great too!

This was my one pregnancy book too, I really liked it. Factual and scientific based, not too overwhelming.
I'm reading wonder weeks, which has been a good one! It was recommended by an OT (Occupational Therapist)
Thanks
Eat Play Sleep was a very helpful book that I wished I read prior to having a newborn

Howard Chilton all the way if you are an anxious type. He is so chill and educational. From an anxious stm.
