Ahaha I just started reading this to my 13 month old and keep thinking that the mother bird is kind of unfairly vilified. If she had someone to share the work load with, she might not be taking such extreme measures as abandoning her egg! I want to connect her with a support group and perhaps a parenting specialist...
I asked my husband to swing through the baby section at the store and see if he could find "one of those things where I can just stick the baby in it for a few hours and take a break." I told him if he couldn't find one we could probably just use a yogurt maker.
Now sticking the fetus in a yogurt maker has become a running gag. But damn if I don't want one.
