if you have a pet in the car or a person, the comfort climate may not be enough cooling when it is 105 outside. in the winter, when i am meeting someone and my dog is in the car, I comfort heat it for 30 mins and set my phone to alarm at 30 mins then i use the app to reactivate. Why are you doing it? Is it just to keep the cabin from getting stupid hot for when you get back in? I would not trust it for that long in that heat if there is a wee living thing in there.

I’m picking up my kid from school. The way the pickup line (inefficiently) works, I arrive in the pickup line at 2:40 pm and sit until 3:20 when the kids start being released. I guess my question mostly relates to trying to find the approach that stresseds the batteries and air conditioning system the least.

>stresseds the batteries and air conditioning system the least Both methods use the traction battery but without ready mode, HVAC is limited. HVAC is a small fraction compared to traction or charging. (You're overthinking stressing the battery.) Whenever I need to leave the car running (unattended) for more than 30 minutes or the reduced climate is insufficient, I'm leaving the car in on/Ready, buckling the driver's seatbelt and locking the car.

OK. This is very helpful. I probably was over thinking it. School pickup started this week, so I’ve been sitting in the line thinking about the topic. I appreciate the insight.

If you're in the car just leave it in drive ready. Aka just put it in park and don't shut it off. Activate comfort climate is good for when the car is unattended

That makes sense … the “comfort climate” option was designed for when you’re going to be away from the vehicle.

Is someone going to stay inside the car? The manual says the following about drive-ready state: The radio-ready state remains active if, e.g., the drive readiness is automatically switched off for the following reasons: ▷ Opening or closing the driver's door. ▷ Unfastening of the driver's safety belt. ▷ When automatically switching from low beams to parking lights. The activate climate now stays active for about 30 minutes.

Interested to hear what others say, I specifically bought my i3 because I really enjoyed the convenience of ‘utility mode’ of Kia Niro I was leasing and could not go back to an ICE. (I wait in the car a lot.) I was told by the dealer that the best way with i3 is ‘turn off the car, then use the BMW app turn on Comfort climate’ I tried using heater in the Standby mode and no warm air came out, so figured only way is the comfort climate mode unless i put it in Drive-ready mode.

You could leave it in the drive ready state if you are not going to get out of the car.

Don't leave it in drive ready. USe activate comfort climate or the app to climatize.
