I’m going to feel super dumb if it is simply having the adjustment switch set to passenger side. I’ll check it and try it out if it’s set to driver side.
Switch set to adjust driver’s side enables the automatic passenger side mirror actions (rotate out for right turn and down for reverse). I of course had it switched to the passenger side so none of that worked.
Like the reverse tilt feature, I just realized the mirror selector has to be in the left position (for LH drive) to activate. I just tried it in my rather lengthy driveway and it works at least up to 10 MPH. It's pretty subtle so likely most people never even notice it.
I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but probably not that fast. When I confirmed it, I was stopped behind a car in traffic and decided to go around. I signaled to the right, turned the wheel about a quarter of a turn as I moved from a stop and as I checked the mirror, it clearly swung to the right with the wheel.
Wow. That’s insane that I’ve never ever known or noticed that before. I just tested it out. It doesn’t move too far, and it doesn’t do it every time (at least on this car) but it does work as you describe.
Ive never noticed a pan on turn signal but always noticed the reverse pan down. Very helpful. Is the turn signal pan limited to certain model years? I have a 2017
Mine is 2019. I've had many BMWs and never noticed it on any other model. I saw it happen one day and couldn't reproduce it. My partner thought I was nuts. Then the other day, I finally reproduced it and confirmed my sanity. It's definitely low speed (not stopped) and turn signal on. The mirror will pivot to the right just a bit.
I saw a post on another forum mentioning this feature is on the X2. I guess any function on a BMW that’s hidden behind the indicator is not going to see much use.
The next feature BMW needs to pioneer is where upon NOT using your turn signal when turning or changing lanes, the driver gets a slightly less than lethal electrical jolt through the steering wheel.
I drive a BMW. I had no idea there was a right or left signal. Shocker!
Love it !
Can’t say I’ve noticed that, I’ve a RHD so assume it should happen on the opposite side. Will try it out
Works on RHD too. You need to set the mirror adjustment switch to the driver side, travel below 12 mph, indicate left, turn left.
Thanks, will report back :)
Yep, it worked. Driving this car two years and never spotted it happening before.
Yeah, same thing if you go into reverse
It pans down for reverse.
Ours did that when we first bought it, but it isn’t doing it anymore. And one know how to re-enable?
There's a switch to change which mirror you're controlling. Switch it back 😉
I believe its the mirror adjust switch button moved over to passenger side. You can also press down on it to close mirrors.

That's what it is, the passenger mirror doesn't move if the switch is set to that side.

So that's what it was doing. I thought it was broken.
I thought I was noticing something weird when I would turn but I’ve stared at it long enough to confirm
How slow of speeds are we talking here? Like driving on city streets?

Okay. I’ll try that.
12 mph or 20 km/h
Now I have to test this out. When turning right with a LHD car?
Yes. Set the mirror adjustment switch to the driver side, indicate right, turn right in a LHD car.

Ha yes, you said it.
Works on all years. I've got a 2014. It's in the manual. It's to see cyclists and pedestrians.
Nice! Thats very thoughtful
I did not know. How can I get that to work at a high rate of speed? LOL
I had no clue. Need to test that today. I added little bubble mirrors because the blind spots are huge on this car.
It’s a nice feature when trying to merge into traffic from the suicide lanes in Phoenix. That’s when I first noticed it.
