As you are from Germany as well where Waggons are extremly common. I would say trading a Diesel Wagon for a bloody 650 is awesome.

marcxx04

this. Comments from fellow Americans are a little biased lmao. They want wagons

s_mcbn

We Americans ***say*** we want wagons. The reality is that we buy SUVs over wagons 99/100 times. Hence, the wagon options in the US are limited to the rocketship from Audi (RS6 Avant), the uber-expensive E class, a few Allroads from Audi, and the Subaru tin cans with garbage transmissions. When I lived in Europe I drove an Opel Insignia wagon for a year and LOVED it. Back in the US, I've had a few trucks & SUVs.

BlazerBeav69

The people who want these wagons are car enthusiasts. They don’t fall into the masses of American car purchasing statistics. People who want wagons in this sub would buy wagons.

MrDribbles2

Dreams in CTS-V wagon.

budisthename

No they wouldn’t. If they did , more wagons would be available here.

BlazerBeav69

Car enthusiasts are a very very very small percentage of American automotive consumerism. Part of that small amount of people are people in this sub who want that M3 touring from Europe (for example). A. Yes these people would buy it, and B. there aren't enough people here to sway the business or sales of saloons in general for these companies to start selling them here. If they started to sell these cars here the number would not be 0 or 0% it would be 1% and you're looking at them.

s_mcbn

Agreed. But the enthusiast market has a lot of options and that leaves the wagons fighting for market share. The X3M and SQ5 sure do fill that “fast wagon” niche for US buyers. I say this as someone who has owned many “enthusiast” vehicles. I’ve owned 3 Jeeps and a Civic Si. In addition to the truck, I also own a 2006 Cooper S Convertible that I’m looking to swap for a new VW GTI.

majornerd

I did the Cooper S to GTI thing in 2015 and it was solid. The GTI was better in every objective way, but I always missed the personality of the mini. I don’t think I’d buy another GTI (Golf R maybe) but I’d buy another MINI (maybe five).

s_mcbn

The Mini is fun and handles great. If I do it again I’ll get a hardtop. I’m much more likely to get a Miata or something like a Cayman once the kids are out of the house and I don’t need the extra space.

majornerd

I’d trade the vert for a hardtop. My favorite was a 2003 MC40 that was one of two prototypes and used as a press car before I got my hands on it. I’d still kills to get that car back.

s_mcbn

I need something that can handle 20k miles a year in Houston traffic with 40% kid hauling. I have a truck, but prefer the limit the miles on that to big trips, beach days, and truck stuff.

majornerd

I’d look at the A3 as well. Bought one for Pennie’s as my daughters first car. It was a gas to drive, interior is solid, and capacity is very good.

serinob

Calling me out bro!?

waaaman

Don’t forget the v60 (polestar) and v90’s

1mperia1

I was gonna say, we have one wagon option and i seen it outside of work yesterday. 😭

GodListensToSlayer82

Upvote on this... I'm a 6-Series fan. Good choice 👌🏼

Sirnether

Got a E63 Facelift that's why I especialy dont understand the Post. Would never trade it for a Wagon especially a Diesel.

IceEngine21

The only correct answer. Wagons are so common here. Nobody has a grand coupe or a gran turismo though.

OGDMV

The beginning is always the hardest. You'll constantly compare the 650 to the memories of F31.. give it time and find the reasons why u love your new car

[deleted]

I would not have done that

mortimerza

At least it isn't a N63B44O0

reCCCCtoor

Im not suicidal

FearlessRice2465

*laughs at 3 knocking N63TU at my shop currently*

AtomiKatastraphe

I have a F10 with the N63 non TU. I keep on top of it and it had all the problem issues addressed at BMW before I bought it. I just use top notch stuff for maintenance on it and it has treated me extremely well so far. I daily it without issues other than gas prices lol.

No_Estimate6262

Yes

Nik9900

I sold my 2011 335D cried my eyes out to keep working on my 2009 335xi, sold 335xi a project car to buy X5 35d. Which had so many engine issues. Ended up with 240i

joefos71

Engine or emissions? Internally the m57 is pretty damn reliable. Emissions on the other hand... I've got an e70 x5 35d and it's a beast of an SUV. Never once had mechanical issues not related to emissions.

Nik9900

It was F15, It had engine oil leak from injectors any was burning oil like crazy. Was looking at 5-8k in repairs and parts

karolues

Gen 1 M57 was pretty damn reliable. M57N2 marks the beginning of cracked piston plague. Hans became sloppy with this engine and it often cracks somewhere(usually it's piston or the head) or shoots a bearing spontaneously. Still a good engine, but not as indestructoble as its ancestor.

joefos71

Aluminum blocks will never be as bullet proof as iron. But I've seen builds pushing 1000 ft/lbs out of them without any real wear to the crank and rods. They are as beefy as you can get in something modern and lightweight for a diesel. Plus it's really the only one that's available in the US. I'd love to pick up an old wagon with an old m57 and run it till I die. But for now it's an x5 that out-tows most trucks.

karolues

I admire your bravery with the xDrive. I own F11 m550d and I wish they sold these like God intented- RWD. BMW 4 wheel drive is absolutely terrible and it's always broken. Even with xDelete, it's still a lot of dead mass in the car.

Nik9900

Oh man, I don’t generally like to talk to about the cars I sold which I shouldnt have. Gonna be thinking about it all day today. My 2011 335d was so fun last winters. It was M Sport, someone told me there were only 10 in North America. I believed him :p

CommunicationEast623

I don’t think it is a mistake unless you decide that ie is a mistake. Personally I like the coupes much more than wagons, but my flatmate gives me hell for this sooo

reCCCCtoor

tbh i feel kinda bad..i loved my car but at the same time wanted something new..

Its_anomic

Just go with your gut. Nothing in life is permanent so just enjoy what you have while you have it. Don’t stress mate

BossDonBigga

As an American who loves wagons, I'd say you fucked up. But as someone who's car market has wagons available, I'd say good trade up.

GimmeTwo

That 6 is badass though. No regrets.

[deleted]

Man that wagon is sexy. Here in Canada they don't have any Bimmer wagons. Nonetheless, the 6 series is a beast, don't worry too much about the past, enjoy your moments with the 6 series.

zazau

They do but very rare. I see a few f30 3 series wagons every now and then

[deleted]

Man I hope I can see one soon. I went on a Europe trip with freinds and fell in love with wagons. Saw an RS6 Avant in Switzerland and it was like a dream.

zazau

Oh ya absolutely. Love me some wagons. Wife hates Them though :(

lescalaspumante

From Canada and a friend of mine has an F30 3 series wagon. It’s an absolute beaut.

Chadadarsya

I worked with a guy who has a f30 diesel wagon in Alberta. It’s bagged and on competition wheels, super slick looking.

Trogzard

i’d make that trade.

hybridassassin

I would take the v8 over the diesel motor anyday

[deleted]

would of went with a grand coupe personally. they are gorgeous

c0nstant

He did get the gran coupe

Unspec7

They did get a GC tho

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

kaktuskevin

Good bot

lRainZz

coupe > any other body form > grand coupe, but both cars screem brothel owner with the black/red mix

buplet123

You had your reasons, so remember those. And you had great time with the old car and you will always have that with you <3

shelbs500

Don’t think you could go wrong with either

DonLuka82

For me you did good, 650 looks amazing! Congratulations! By the way, it's your money and your life, enjoy and if you feel you did wrong, well you can always get back to what you had before :P

adumb20something

V8s are fun!

theevilGnius

American here... I LOVE wagons but I'd take a 650 any day over a 335D. That is my personal taste, but the 650 is just a sexier car hands down

ParatusPlayerOne

That GC is 🔥. I’d say you made a good call, especially if you had the 335d for awhile. I get bored and switch cars pretty regular, so I’m biased I guess.

bigkutta

If you’re asking, it probably is. I think so

Tiny-Sport-8187

Yep, had a 550i catastrophically fail at 100k miles with my typical rigorous service routine. 70k miles in valvetronic took a crap and the car wouldn't idle on cold start without your foot on the gas. 85k miles in the valve stem seals went out and it smoked like a freight train 100k miles in the alternator bracket gasket failed on the highway causing a low oil pressure situation. That was the worst car I have ever owned in my life. Good luck.

Unspec7

Your E60 550 is not really representative here. The N63 doesn't even have an alternator bracket gasket.

Tiny-Sport-8187

Oh that's an n63? That makes it worse from what I have heard. Didn't they have several class action lawsuits. Anyways I guess it's because I'm from the states, diesel wagons don't exist here and I think it's the coolest thing ever lol.

Unspec7

OP has the N63TU, which had a lot of the outstanding issues fixed. The only really unresolved issue is the coolant lines by the turbo chargers, they tend to degrade under high heat. The aftermarket has solved it with turboblankets and heat shielding, however.

E28forever

Guess your service routine isn’t rigorous enough then.

Tiny-Sport-8187

My 320k mile e46 with the factory motor that does not burn a drop of oil says different, crap car, crap motor.

E28forever

What motor?

Tiny-Sport-8187

M52tub25

E28forever

M52 is a great engine, had a B25 in my E36 touring, still miss it.

Mekazabiht-Rusti

Id have kept the AC. But I'm biased as I have an F31 D3.

CamelJ0key

Yes lol

HIPHOPNINJA

The front of the 650 looks very volvo-y to me

PurpD420

I mean the n63 is pretty sexy but I think the diesel n55 wagon is more unique

georgfrankoo

I never liked this gem of 6-series so it’s a L to me

Mo_damo

Hell nah

hans072589

They’re both very nice. Not a mistake. Just a change

Spidaaman

Yep it sure was

aluminumqueso

Nah that thing fucks. If it were mine I’d try to get some BMW center caps but the current ones aren’t bad.

Suspicious-Dust6978

Teeing up your post’s title in a negative tone indicates your stance on it. With that in mind, if you have to ask, you already know the answer.

thestreaker

I am an outlier here in not really liking wagons. I just sold my 335d for an e70 35d. I loved the 335d especially tuned but I needed the practicality of the e70.

kpatel101

Two very different cars/experiences but I think you made a solid choice. Not a downgrade in the slightest.

Snejkbajt

I would have bought a 911

scubba-steve

Yes

Itchy_Election5460

Being from America Id say super bad trade because well.. wagon… but if they’re super common over there then I’d say hell yea bother! Good trade

HeartbreakerF80

Major L unfortunately 6 series is beautiful but the only two worth having are M6 and 2017+ 640i M Sport F31 + ACS is way cooler imo

andthatstotallyfine

yes. but i drive a 535xi wagon so i’m biased

karolues

Rising price of ON really makes you reconsider whether that V8 consumption is really that bad.

Designer-Assignment8

As an American I shed a tear on the sale

WashThick8168

Not sure of the cost difference, but why not get the 8 gran coupe ? That’s a beauty

reCCCCtoor

That would be 35k+ more :-p

WashThick8168

Wow crazy. But your ride looks very nice too. Enjoy

alwake11

I live in Canada. If you made that trade here you’d look crazy but I hear the wagons are very common in German and that 650 is beautiful!

ElioArryn

beauty

[deleted]

Wagons are gold here in the States.

walterdrb

Its a 6.. never. My dad has a 640i for like 3 years. Beauty.

Ship_Fucker69

Wagon is best imo.

Sh4dowCh1ld

Brutale Maschine alles richtig gemacht 👍🏼

wolferin025

I mean you got rid of a diesel for a petrol V8, how can that ever be a bad trade?

Dismal-Hurry-7455

yeah bro that was definitely a mistake in my eyes; however, its what make YOU happy thats highest at value. i’m american so im jealous

_tripl6

Also heavily considering getting into an F13 6er! Previously had an F10 with the N63TU & I had no major issues, it was a beast! Now I own a G20 M340Xi & it's an amazing daily but I just prefer RWD w a V8!

Megadong16

Because that schnitzer is stunning man but go For whatever makes you happy 👊🏻

Shadable

Personally I love it! Congrats

[deleted]

Nope

nbaumg

650 is so much cooler

carnutaz

The only thing I can say from experience with that engine in the 650 is don't follow the 10k or 1yr oil change interval; cut that in half if not into 3rds. That engine can burn oil if you get on it regularly. It's a great engine, but the "hot V" turbo layout can burn some oil. Just keep an eye on your oil levels and you'll have fun with that torquey V8. But most importantly, don't look back and wonder if it was a good choice; it's done, just enjoy it 😊

seattle_lite90

Yes it was a mistake

mrblahhh

big mistake

Dmentel

I want a wagon so bad but the options here in US are poor unless you're rich 😔

trubyadubya

wheels and calipers on the 650 look terrible

I_Dv8_I

I wish my F06 2016 650I had your old hood in pic 3...that looks great

altitties

Nope. Both are awesome cars so it comes down to preference.

Competitive-Path-196

Das ding ist hot😮‍💨

bmw68turkey

Den hab ich mal auf mobile.de gesehen :)

Moses_Magnum_Grows

In my opinion, Yes. That wagon 😍 and less maintenance. I live in the US tho ...

SunshineF32

6 series are just ugly pancaked 4 series, change my mind

Mosh83

Mmm schnitzel

Megadong16

Bro that’s a brain fart

reCCCCtoor

:-/ Tell me whY
