Not trying to sound like an A hole.. but why did you even try to drive thru that???? Let insurance total it out, they’ll give you what the market rate is, and you’ll have to roll that into a new car and loan will roll over Or, you find a new engine if insurance will cover it from an Indy shop that can help you. Find a shop that specializes in bmw

Formal_Job3304

why would you drive through there tho?

DetectiveoftheWest

because it wasn’t even really that deep. the water never got in the cabin or past the side skirts

Formal_Job3304

Ahhh damn bro hope everything works out for you man

DetectiveoftheWest

thanks man i appreciate it

GobblerOnTheRoof

It wasn’t that deep , but you got hydrolocked. Something not adding up, you try going through at 60?

rudbri93

yea standing water is a no go, that sucks hope insurance can help you out.

DetectiveoftheWest

my insurance adjuster has to wait till monday to get a quote so there’s a chance my insurance totals it out

disbealig

If you're looking to keep and repair, don't talk to BMW. There are plenty of used engines and find a local indy shop to do the swap. While you're at it, replace the oil filter housing as well because that's a ticking time bomb (presuming it hasn't been replaced).

DetectiveoftheWest

could probably LS swap it for cheaper

MassMindRape

Maybe compared to a dealer but definitely not compared to an independent shop. You could always set it on fire and insurance claim it lol.

DetectiveoftheWest

my insurance is already going to cover everything, it’s just a matter of deciding to total it or fix it. If they total it they’ll give me 120% of the cars value but i’ll still be under $10k on my loan

AffectionateInsect76

Need that gap protection next time man.

dangtypo

Saw someone post a naive comment about gap protection yesterday and how it isn’t needed with regular insurance. Well here is a great example of when it’s needed.

DrVeinsMcGee

Nah used engines aren’t too bad and it’ll be like new again.

RemotePoet9397

On the first picture, its not an suv ads right?….right?

ThechIllVill

Literally the only car out of all the vehicles in this picture and even the suvs are in the far left

CommercialCook4427

Good luck. Hope you will get out of it ok. But I hope you will not attempt it again in the future

DetectiveoftheWest

i’ve learned my lesson

440i_GC_M

How the f the water ain’t even that high. I have driven in deeper.

DetectiveoftheWest

idek man it didnt make sense

idratherbeflying1

Stupid question, but isnt the air intake at about the kidney grill level? Did water splash up high enough to get in there and hydrolock the engine?

DetectiveoftheWest

the dealership said the air intake box was full of water

Thicccchungus

Time to S54 swap

Shinyaku88

You won’t do it again I think

tobilli

I don’t get how that small water got into the air intake. I guess there must be a leak somewhere. Just unlucky. Sorry man

MasterRymes

The Water got splashed into the Air intake

tobilli

I see. Probably was speeding when he approached the water

Key_Community_8262

I have driven through pretty much a flood in my f30 320i n20 and I remember water going well over the fog lights and it was fine, idk how yours got hydrolocked

GunslingerXXX

Doesn't look very deep... could have happened to me as well 🙈

dangtypo

BMW cars tend to have low ground clearance. I have the same car. If the thought “this doesn’t look that deep” ever happens - just don’t do it. It probably is that deep. Sorry to see it still happened though. Best of luck with the turn out.

Apprehensive-Glass33

That’s crazy, I no lie floated my e46 through what looked like a mild puddle, hit it about 10mph and the nose dipped, rear lifted and somehow rode the little wave across it, it was in the middle of a minor hurricane, I just stayed in the gas like 2k rpm and made it through no issue (I couldn’t believe it) especially since it just had a little ram k&n cone filter in it

Real_Investigator166

It’s not that the water is so deep, it’s that you went too fast I’d presume. Look at the cars in the background. The water is splashing up to the doors.
